| Police prepared for Chester v Wrexham clash - 05/03/2008
Source : ic CheshireOnline
POLICE are well prepared in anticipation of a possible trouble when Chester City play Wrexham at the Deva Stadium on Sunday.
Officers will be in force in the city centre and at the ground in a bid to deter the minority hooligan element attached to each club.
One concern is that only 1,400 tickets have been allocated to Wrexham who have 1,600 season tickets holders leading to chat on websites that some will buy tickets in the Chester end with the potential for conflict.
Police are hoping for a draw so that nobody loses face in the local Derby, although Wrexham will be desperate for a win as they seek to avoid relegation from league two.
The game takes place at noon to deter fans from getting drunk before the game and through Pub Watch licensed premises have been asked not to open until midday at the earliest, likewise off licences and supermarkets won’t be serving alcohol before then.

| Police:Warn Against Millwall Trouble - 06/03/2008
Source : Vitalfootball
South Wales Police have sent out a stark warning ahead of the League One Clash against Millwall tomorrow evening, a clampdown on illegal parking and public disturbances will be in place.
Representatives from supporter bases and also the Police have been working in partnership to ensure ugly scenes when fans clashed with Riot police on the 22nd October 2006, are not repeated.
The fixture has been moved from Saturday 9th to Friday 8th to limit the possibility of any trouble in and around The Liberty Stadium.
Bumper crowds are expected with 15,000 + fans expected to pack into the Stadium. Fans have been advised to purchase tickets early to avoid lengthy Queues.
Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias of South Wales Police has warned fans that there will be a crackdown on illegal activity but insists his officers and staff want fans to have an enjoyable evening.
Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias Told The SWEP:
"'We want to make this an enjoyable event, building on the success the club is experiencing at the moment while causing the minimum disruption to the local community."
I would ask visitors to the stadium to respect the local community and only park in authorised areas."
"Officers will be enforcing the parking regulations, and vehicles parked illegally are likely to be towed away.'

| Deportivo Cali - America Cali - 08/03/2008Source: Associated Press Soccer brawl leaves about 80 woundedColombian match turns ugly on referee decision; 18 suffer stabbedA stadium brawl at a soccer rivalry game left about 80 people wounded in the Colombian city of Cali late Saturday, 18 of them with stab wounds, emergency officials said. Clashes broke out among America de Cali’s “Red Baron” fan club in the 82nd minute of the match with Deportivo de Cali and spread onto the field and around the Pascual Guerrero stadium. Police fired tear gas as the brawlers lit firecrackers and tried to tear down fencing separating the stands from the field. Eighteen people were stabbed during the melee, said Manuel Infante, spokesman for Cali’s Emergency Prevention Committee. They were treated at the stadium and taken to a local hospital. Another 60 suffered bruises and other minor injuries. A young pregnant woman and three police officers were among the wounded, the Red Cross said. Tensions flared over referee Wilman Roldan’s decision not to call a penalty kick against Cali. America protested the no-call, players traded blows on the field and America coach Diego Edison Umana got into the fray, elbowing his Cali counterpart Daniel Carreno. Cali Mayor Jorge Ivan Ospina called Umana “directly responsible” for the violence and said the stadium’s stands would be closed temporarily. Umana had harsh words for the refereeing later in comments published on the Web site of El Tiempo newspaper, but said there was “no excuse” for his behavior. “It’s my fault, and if I have to leave soccer I’ll go,” Umana said. Fans of the two Cali squads have had frequent clashes in the past, though less serious. “This cannot happen again,” vowed Juan Carlos Abadia, governor of Del Valle department. The chaos led Roldan to whistle an early end to the match, which Deportivo won 1-0 on a goal from defender Freddy Hurtado. ************************************************************* Source : Canal13 VIDEOS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDuGv8vZc1U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psn30ZNuDmg

Police strikes cancel Dutch games
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — A game between PSV Eindhoven and Ajax was cancelled Saturday along with two other matches in the Dutch soccer league after the threat of police strikes put fans' security at risk.
Along with the top-of-the-table clash between PSV and Ajax, AZ Alkmaar's match against fourth-place Feyenoord and the VVV Venlo-FC Twente game — all three of which originally were scheduled for Sunday — were called off because police unions demanding higher pay said they would strike.
Second-place Ajax failed in its attempt to get a court order Saturday to stop the police strike at its away match against league leader PSV.
It was the second time this season that police officers have forced the postponement of key soccer matches.
"It is extremely annoying that football fans who wanted to watch this big match are again victims of the strikes," said Ajax financial director Jeroen Slop.
PSV players will likely be less upset than their Ajax counterparts by the free day Sunday as they prepare for the second leg of their UEFA Cup tie with English Premiership side Tottenham on Wednesday. PSV beat Spurs 1-0 in London in the first leg on Thursday.

Clubs warn against withdrawal of police presence at games
Gambrinus liga soccer clubs are in turmoil after the Cabinet put forward a bill Feb. 25 that seeks to end police patrols at soccer stadiums during games. Should the bill pass Parliament, the police would walk away from stadiums next January. “We wanted to ease the life of our policemen so they can fully focus on their legal duties,” Interior Minister Ivan Langer explained. “Providing security at sports stadiums should not be their job.” The bill would put responsibility on the clubs’ stewards and hired security to keep the peace at stadiums. The police would not automatically be present inside stadiums, as they are now, but would only enter arenas should stewards fail to enforce order. Representatives of most Gambrinus liga clubs said that the absence of police would increase their costs, as they would have to hire a larger number of security agents. Moreover, they agreed, they could not imagine facing the rowdy crowds of soccer hooligans without police backing. “We cannot imagine not having the police at particularly high-risk games, because we would hardly be capable of enforcing the order in case of a major disturbance,” said Igor Bruzl, Baník Ostrava’s spokesman. Traditionally, Baník fans are among the most aggressive rooters in the league. The police detain about 300 hooligans before, during and after football games every year. But that number belies how many further incidents the police presence averts, added Sparta Praha spokesman Jakub Otava. “A complete withdrawal of the police from stadiums would be quite risky,” Otava said. Miroslav Platil, security official for the Czech Football Association (ČMFS), said the ČMFS will negotiate with the police this summer about how its members can provide security at stadiums. He said the police should still be ready to take action during games, in case they’re called by organizers. While a visible police presence will likely fade away at games, undercover police will remain present, said police spokeswoman Jana Bartíková. “Our plans copy the model used in the United Kingdom and Germany, where there’s a limited police presence at stadiums, but undercover police agents are present in the stands and are ready to take action in case of disturbance,” she said. To make the security system work like the one in the United Kingdom, it is necessary to boost the legal status of stewards hired by clubs, Bartíková added. “Today, they do not have any special competence and, in front of the law, they have the same rights as any other citizens,” she said.

| Middlesbrough vs Cardiff City : Police on alert for cup clash - 08/03/2008
Source : Evening Gazette
POLICE will mount a major operation during Middlesbrough’s FA Cup quarter-final with Cardiff City tomorrow amid concerns over “history” between the two clubs.
And Boro bosses released advice to supporters today in a bid to keep everyone safe.
When Boro last played Cardiff 14 years ago, the event was marred by scenes of violence as fans clashed.
Cleveland Police have warned that any trouble will be dealt with firmly.
Police were monitoring various sources of intelligence including websites used by hooligans to set up confrontations.
Chief Superintendent Steve Ashman, who is co-ordinating the Cleveland Police operation, said: “These two teams have not played each other for some 14 years. The last time they met there were some significant problems with disorder both in Cardiff and Middlesbrough.
“There is some history between the two clubs in terms of problems in the past. It’s a long time ago. Part of our intelligence operation is to look to what happened when two teams played before.
“The vast majority of people heading for the event are going to hopefully witness a great sporting occasion and support their team and our operation is around making sure they do so in a peaceful environment.
“We will deal very firmly with anyone who causes problems.”
Chief Supt Ashman said policing an FA Cup quarter-final would always be treated as a major operation regardless of the history between fans.
He said his officers would be hoping to make sure people on Teesside not going to the game could go about their business with minimum disruption.
Cleveland Police are working with South Wales Police as a matter of “normal protocol” to identify any intelligence on potential offenders. Officers from Wales will also travel to Teesside to assist operations.
Chief Supt Ashman said: “It’s anticipated it will be close to a sell-out, if not a sell-out. It’s a big event and needs to be policed accordingly. We are confident we have sufficient officers to deal with any eventuality.
“The general message is enjoy your day. We hope it passes off without incident. For that minority who come here with other intentions, we are one of the leading forces nationally for obtaining banning orders.
“We will have a very firm and very robust policing operation in place. We will not tolerate any disorder in the Cleveland area.”
Boro supporters will not be allowed into the south stand at the Riverside Stadium or surrounding areas to avoid potential clashes with thousands of Cardiff supporters.
No bars will be open to Middlesbrough fans after the match.
Strict conditions are also being applied to Cardiff fans, who have been warned they should not travel without a valid match ticket.
Boro safety officer Sue Watson said: “Tight security will be in place to ensure Sunday’s big match goes safely and smoothly. We apologise to Boro fans for any inconvenience, but safety is paramount.”
Supporters are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey and arrive at the Riverside early.
Supporters are reminded that the Shepherdson Way approach road to the Riverside will close at 1.15pm on Sunday to all but holders of matchday car park passes. Drivers with passes for car park A are requested to arrive no later than 1.30pm. Matchday car park passes should be displayed on windscreens when approaching Shepherdson Way.

| Greek club threatened with gunshots, firebomb ahead of game - 09/03/2008
Source: AFP
A rural Greek football club received a menacing welcome to Athens on Sunday prior to an away game, with three of its cars fired upon and a firebomb thrown at its hotel, police said.
Third division Panaitolikos FC found that bullets had been fired into their squad bus and the cars belonging to a player and a club official which were parked near the team's hotel in the coastal suburb of Glyfada.
One of the shots was aimed at the gas tank. No injuries were reported.
A firebomb was also thrown at the hotel entrance early on Sunday morning, causing minor fire damage, and the building later had to be searched by police after a hoax bomb warning.
Authorities decided to cancel the scheduled game between Panetolikos and Ilioupoli FC.
