Blackpool vs Preston: Nine fans face banning orders - 17/03/2008

Source: www.setanta.com

Nine fans are to be issued with banning orders after allegations of racist chanting were made during Saturday's game between Blackpool and Preston.

CCTV footage was examined after supporters from both teams were accused of exchanging racist and homophobic slogans in the 0-0 draw at Bloomfield Road.

Lancashire police say that two people were arrested during the game on suspicion of a racial public order offence.

A statement from Blackpool said: "Nine supporters have been identified for racist and public order offences and banning orders or the process of issuing banning orders on these people has begun.

"The local police are continuing to study CCTV footage from the game and more banning orders are expected in the near future."

Blackpool secretary Matt Williams said: "Following a number of complaints received from both sets of supporters regarding homophobic and racist chanting from both sets of fans, nine people have been identified for racist and public order offences and these people will face bans from the club."

Lancashire Police added: "An extremely successful match-day policing operation was marred by the behaviour of individuals from both sets of supporters. The police are now in the process of gathering and reviewing all the evidence available with a view to action against individuals who are identified."

Football yobs sent down for violence - 19/03/2008

Source : Bromley Times

A GANG of hooligans who launched a 'planned, coordinated and premeditated ambush' on rival supporters have been jailed for a total of 18 years and two months and banned from any football matches in England and Wales.

More than 40 thugs, believed to be Crystal Palace supporters, boarded the train at Sydenham Railway Station intent on ambushing their bitter south London rivals.

Women, children and pensioners were caught up in the violence as the yobs went on the rampage shortly before the Palace versus Charlton clash at Selhurst Park on September 1 last year.

Passengers were kicked, punched and abused while one 24-year-old Charlton fan suffered a broken nose.

Earlier in statement witness, Polly Dooley said: "This group of men didn't care who they hurt.

"They acted like animals and their behaviour was unacceptable."

Leigh Bevis, 22, from Croydon; John De Bono, 20, of Riverside Court, High Street, St Mary's Cray; Stephen Edwards, 40, from Clapham; Tommy Patience, 19, of Salcot Crescent, New Addington; Danny Lehane, 21, from South Norwood; Nicholas McGinty, 24, from Lewisham; Harvey Neenan, 44, of Abbotts Park, Tulse Hill; Dominic Goodridge, 32, of North Downs Road, New Addington, and a 16-year-old from Purley, all admitted violent disorder.

Judge Stephen Robbins told the thugs: "This was sickening behaviour, thuggery and organised violence on a train with members of the public including children who were visibly distressed."

Neenan and Goodridge, both of whom have previous convictions connected to football violence, were jailed for 40 months and given ten year football banning orders.

Lehane, Bevis and civil engineering student De Bono were all sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment and given ten year football banning orders.

Patience and Edwards who were not known 'risk supporters' before the train attack, were jailed for two years and banned from football for six years.

The 16 year-old was told he would not be sent to prison because of his age and was given a two year community rehabilitation order and told to complete 150 hours unpaid work.

The football banning orders mean the yobs are forbidden from attending any football match in England and Wales and banned from travelling on trains on any day where England or Crystal Palace Football Club are playing a match.

They are also banned from entering within 2,000m of any stadium where Crystal Palace are playing, whether at home or away.

The defendants are also banned from entering Croydon pubs when Crystal Palace are playing at home.

After sentencing Charlton Athletic Football Club Operations Director Mick Everett said: "This mindless, violent, and unprovoked attack on our supporters and also members of the travelling public was a despicable and cowardly act.

France: Metz hooligans excluded - 19/03/2008

Source : Setanta Sports

Metz are continuing to clean up their act and have confirmed that two more hooligans have been excluded from Stade St Symphorien.

Les Grenats are in dire trouble at the foot of the table, but their on-field plight is threatening to be overshadowed by other controversies.

Racist and anti-Semitic gestures and chants have been seen and heard and in a bid to improve the atmosphere they have issued a banning order.

It has just been announced that two people have been excluded from Les Grenats’ home games for the next three months because they “made gestures and said words with extremist character.”

It has been a season to forget for the Loraine side who are odds-on to go down.

Croatia: Basketball game in Split - 15/03/2008

Source: own

Season 07/08 - March - Page 6 Pozdravyc7

5 old members of the serbian group "Firma" from Vojvodina - Novi Sad came to a basketball match like tourists to Split. Torcida does not follow this club and sport, but somehow them 5 were recognised. So after the game they were searched and finally surprised in their car, some 300km far away from Split, while they were sleeping. They were injured and their car damaged. It is to say, although there is a big hate between Croats and Serbs, no hard weapons were used!

Rapid Bucharest - Steaua Bucharest- 20/03/2008

Source : Reuters + GSP.ro

Bucharest derby abandoned, Rapid coach quits

Rapid Bucharest coach Mircea Rednic resigned on Thursday after their derby against Steaua was abandoned when the home side's fans threw objects, mainly stones and cigarette lighters, onto the pitch.

Referee Alexandru Deaconu ended the match in the 73rd minute, a minute after a stone struck him on the head, with Rapid leading 1-0 after a goal scored by defender Cristian Sapunaru six minutes earlier.

Rednic said he resigned over the general lack of fair play in Romanian football, endless refereeing scandals and Rapid fans' permanent verbal aggression against him.

"I quit because I was defeated by (the state of) Romanian football," Rednic told reporters. "Today I realised that you can achieve nothing good here."

The visiting Steaua players had to wait in their changing room for more than an hour before they could leave the ground.

According the Romanian Soccer Federation (FRF) rules, Rapid could be penalised with a 3-0 defeat, a 10-point deduction and have their stadium suspended.

"We'll apply the rules," FRF president Mircea Sandu told reporters without elaborating.

Rapid officials strongly criticised the referee's decision and club vice-president Constantin Zotta said the fans who caused the trouble were Steaua supporters in among the home crowd.

"Several Steaua fans deliberately provoked the trouble," Zotta told reporters.

West Ham hooligans sentenced - 22/03/2008

Source: http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk

FIVE football hooligans have been sentenced for their part in violence after a game between Millwall and West Ham last year.

The five Hammers yobs have been banned from going near Upton Park and visiting towns were away matches are being held.

Eden Diebel, Andrew Tingay, Christopher Marks, James Paul Baker and Vincent D'abbro appeared at Greenwich Magistrates Court.

All five men were given a five year banning orders, the maximum that can be handed out by courts.

The men were also fined and ordered to carry out community punishment orders.

PC Andrew Wadeson from the Met's football unit said: "We are pleased these individuals have each received banning orders to prevent them causing trouble at future football matches.

"We work closely with football clubs to try to find ways to prevent disorder occurring in the first place.

"The majority of football audiences just want to enjoy their sport; we know they support all police activity in dealing with violent disorder.

"The banning orders prevent the men from going within two miles of Upton Park and from visiting towns where away matches are held for hours before, during and after the matches."

Leicester vs Norwich: MORE ARRESTS AFTER SOCCER MASS BRAWL - 22/03/2008

Source: http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk

More people have been arrested in connection with a massive brawl between football fans in Leicester city centre.

The news came as new CCTV images were released of two men police want to talk to about the incident.

Officers said they wanted to question a pair of Norwich supporters who are suspected of being involved in the violence, which took place in Loseby Lane after the match between Leicester and Norwich on Saturday, February 16.

In the past two days, 11 Norwich fans have been arrested, bringing the total number of Norwich fans arrested in connection with the brawl to 19.

Two Leicester fans were arrested at the time and have been bailed pending further inquiries. Another Leicester fan was arrested in the past week. Police anticipated more suspects would be rounded up, both in Norfolk and Leicestershire, in coming weeks.

The investigation is being led by Leicestershire Constabulary, assisted by Norfolk officers, with the help of Norwich City Football Club.

Det Sgt Rob Widdowson, of Leicestershire police, said officers had identified a number of suspects who have not yet been arrested after trawling through CCTV footage.

He said: "We made another arrest in Leicestershire this week, and expect there will be more.

"Our message to the people who were involved is to contact us before they get a knock on the door. We also want to hear from anyone who was there and was affected by the violence.

"This sort of behaviour will never be tolerated."

Pc Andy King, a football intelligence officer at Norfolk Constabulary, said: "The latest arrests send out a strong message to football supporters, that regardless of where disorder occurs, Norfolk Constabulary and Norwich City Football Club will work closely together and take positive action to deal with those responsible.

"We have worked closely with colleagues from Leicestershire Constabulary, who are leading this investigation, and will continue to do so over the coming weeks, to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice."

Today's visit to the Walkers Stadium of promotion-chasing Hull City has been classified as a category C game, meaning police expect it to need the highest level of policing.

Citywatch, the Neighbourhood Watch equivalent for the city's shops and bars, said the game had been upgraded at short notice in the past few days.

Anyone with information about those featured in the images, or who witnessed the incident and has not yet contacted police, is asked to contact Pc King at Vantage House, Norwich, on 0845 456 4567, or investigating officer Det Sgt Rob Widdowson, of Leicestershire police, on 0116 222 2222.
