| ARGYLE BAN TWO FANS FOR LIFE - 27/03/2008
Source : Plymouth Evening Herald
Plymouth Argyle have reacted swiftly to avoid a repeat of the scenes in the home match with Watford by slapping life bans on two supporters.
Michael Dunford had promised tough words and even tougher actions on spectators who made 'racist remarks' in the fiery fixture with Watford at Home Park last Saturday.
The promotion-chasing Pilgrims' chief executive told Herald Sport earlier this week of the club's 'unswerving zero tolerance' towards racist abuse aimed at visiting officials and players.
Following allegations of racist remarks aimed at Watford substitute Jordan Stewart, which led to two spectators being ejected from the Mayflower Enclosure and arrested by the police, Argyle will implement an 'exclusion zone' behind the visiting dug-out.
The men were later released and are due to answer police bail on May 14.
The latter action follows spectators hammering on the Watford dug-out and claims by visiting boss Aidy Boothroyd of coins being thrown in the second-half of the tense 1-1 draw.
The touchline tetchiness was a result of visiting kitman Bert Oteng squirting water on prostrate Argyle midfielder Peter Halmosi, who was both carried off and sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Following Saturday's ugly scenes, Argyle will complete their remaining three home matches of the Championship season with three rows behind the visiting dug-out cordoned off.
Those home matches are against Charlton Athletic on Saturday-week and next month the games with Preston North End and Blackpool, on April 19 and April 26 respectively.
After holding a ground safety meeting at the ground on Tuesday, the Pilgrims have articulated the reasons for their actions in a statement.
"Two people in the vicinity of the Watford dug-out on Saturday will be banned indefinitely, from all Argyle home games and any other events at Home Park," the statement reads.
"This follows an internal inquiry that considered all the facts already in our possession, and included evidence provided by our own supporters.
"The club has also decided to implement, without delay, a supporters' exclusion zone behind the visiting dug-out."
Dunford reiterated the club's tough stance on racism, and praised the home fans who also reacted with indignation at the time of the incident.
He said: "As we have consistently said, there is no place at Home Park for racism, or, indeed, any form of anti-social behaviour.
"We have excluded people for racism before and had no hesitation in taking this action once we satisfied ourselves of Saturday's events.
"I would like to thank the Argyle supporters who came forward to identify the culprits."

| Poland: Stal Stalowa Wola - GKS Katowice - 22/03/2008
Source : www.lepetitjournal.com
After having saw their team loosing a game of the Polish Second Division against Stal Stalowa Wola, GKS Katowice's fans went back to Silesia on a special train. Once in Tarnów train station, the train, which was not supposed to stop there, was stucked after a passenger pulled the emergency system. 400 fans took advantage in the situation by stepping out of the train to fight with the police. Over-excited hooligans thrown bottles, stones and benches at the police, injuring 21 of them. The train finally left without the police managed to arrest any of those hooligans. But dozens of cops were waiting for the GKS's fans at Krakow-Mydlnikach train station. Wearing anti-riot outfits, the arrested 39 of them.

Few facts: There was no pulled emerygency brake in Tarnow station. Train stopped for 5 minutes on this station. Some fans wanted to go shops to buy something, after few hours of travel. But OB didnt let them go, said few words which shouldn't be used by normal police officers. Somone shout back, OB beat him, and rest of fans didnt let this situation to be just a history. There was a fight, after 21 cops were injuried. But this what happened in Krakow reminds us a communist times. Armed OB + anti-terrosits get inside train, started to beat every single fan, no matter who was who. Everyone must lay on the ground, which was sprayed by gas. Also gas was sprayd inside the train, so lot of fans couldnt breath. Even normal train workers were beaten up. After about 3 hours of beating, laying on the ground everything calmed down. But OB still was using gas just like that. It is not the whole story, plus my english isnt so good, that I can translate everything, but think everyone can imagine what happened out there.

| TEN MAY FACE MATCH BANS AFTER ADMITTING CLASH - 28/03/2008
Source : Derby Evening Telegraph
Ten alleged "football hooligans" have admitted being involved in a violent clash near Derby train station.
The men, who could face six months in jail when they are sentenced in May, were arrested after being involved in a confrontation at the front of a pub.
Prosecutor Keith Raynor told Derby Crown Court yesterday that Nottingham Forest fans returning from an away game at Port Vale had approached the front door of The Waterfall in Railway Terrace. After an argument with four men, whom Mr Raynor said were Derby fans, chairs and glasses were then thrown out of and into the pub.
They now face the possibility of banning orders - which could prevent them from attending football matches. But they are expected to contend that the violence was not related to football.
Mr Raynor said: "It was football-related and the Crown Prosecution Service will be applying for football banning orders." The court was shown CCTV of the incident taken from a camera inside the pub, which is only a few hundred yards from Pride Park.
All of the accused sat in the jury box during the proceedings as there were not enough seats in the dock.
Ten of 11 men charged pleaded guilty to affray.
They are Neil King, 39, of Celia Drive, Nottingham; Luke Smith, 23, of Chandos Street, Nottingham; Paul Wilmott, 44, of Kingsley Drive, Nottingham; Nigel Straw, 43, of Bobbersmill, Nottingham; Nicky Spencer, 24, of Blaise Close, Nottingham; Simon Marshment, 29, of Shakespeare Road, Burton; Dominic Humphrey, 23, of Wilmot Street, Heanor; Arthur Preston, 47, of Sough Road, South Normanton; Paul Gratton, 32, of Woodford Drive, Chaddesden and James Bell, 22, of Denton Road, Burton.
Another man, Glyn Baker, 26, of Axford Close, Gedling, was found not guilty after the prosecution offered no evidence.
The prosecution wanted to put all 11 defendants on trial for violent disorder, a more serious charge than affray. But the CPS did not proceed after the men admitted the lesser charge.
All 10 will reappear at the court on May 19 when they will be sentenced and banning orders will be considered.
Mr Raynor said the prosecution would have to prove a definite link between the violence and football.

| Rapid punished with 3-0 defeat for abandoned derby match - 29/03/2008
Source : Reuters
Rapid Bucharest were punished with a 3-0 defeat by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) after their match against Steaua Bucharest was abandoned when the home side's fans threw stones and objects on to the pitch.
Referee Alexandru Deaconu, hit by a cigarette lighter on the head, abandoned the derby game in the 73rd minute with Rapid leading 1-0.
The FRF also fined Rapid and ordered them to play their next two home league home matches behind closed doors.
The decision cut to three points the gap between leaders CFR Cluj, on 56 points, and Steaua Bucharest on 53.
Rapid said they would appeal against the decision.
"The FR decision is illegal," club president George Copos told reporters.

| Italian anti-football hooligan laws working, say police - 29/03/2008Source : Xinhua Italian national police chief on Friday said tough laws aimed at violence in football have produced "extraordinary results". Antonio Manganelli said the past year saw an 80 percent drop in the number of policemen injury during football games since the government enacted a package of anti-violence laws in February last year following the death of 38-year-old police officer Filippo Raciti at a stadium riot in Sicily. "The new anti-violence laws have done a great job both in terms of stadium safety and in terms of organization and steward presence," Maganelli said. Based on the British model of battling hooliganism, it featured stiffer punishment for people convicted of offences, the banning of block ticket sales for away fans and an increase in steward presence (one for every 150-250 fans) at soccer matches. The Italian government also insisted that stadiums respect a previous 2005 law, which requires them to have electric turnstiles, be equipped with video surveillance, and issue tickets with the buyer's name and seat number in order to make it easier to identify hooligans. The Italian National Observatory of Sports Events backed up Manganelli's figures on Friday. According to the observatory, injuries have dropped by 15 percent among the 11 million fans who have attended almost 2,000 matches since the laws were passed, and the number of arrests has fallen by 8 percent. Of the 3,749 court orders forbidding fans identified as hooligans to enter stadiums, 1,285 had been issued since the beginning of the current football season, the observatory added. It said the introduction of stewards into the stadiums was "fundamental" in the results. | |

| Dinamo Zagreb - Sibenik - 22/03/2008Source : Javni Hooligan Who Broke Cameraman’s Camera Arrested
The 18-year-old football fan, suspected of breaking a Croatian Television cameraman’s camera two days ago, was arrested yesterday.Last night’s football match between Dinamo and Sibenik in Zagreb’s Maksimir stadium went through without incident and there were no arrests. The protest in the centre did not record any crime. However, the police said to be ready to reinforce and intensify patrols in the areas where the young Bad Blue Boys usually gather. The police today confirmed that the 18-year-old football fan, suspect breaking the camera of a Croatian Television cameraman in Zagreb’s Ban Jelacic Square two days ago, was arrested yesterday. ************************************************************* The Bad Blue Boys left the Dinamo-Sibenik football game as the police did not let them in with banners. The police gathered in the square. Before the match Dinamo-Sibenik, the police forbid the Bad Blue Boys (Dinamo Zagreb’s fans) to bring banners to the match, which were objectionable, so the supporters decided to boycott tonight’s match. The Boys wrote on their banners sentences like:“Frenky R.I.P.”, “Croatia be ashamed. You rejoice in someone else’s death, you call for violence” and “You do not respect the dead sons of heroes”, in sign of protest due to the murder of F. Despic. The police have given no comment, and the club said they do not know the precise reason why the BBB left the match. This act is only a continuation of the BBB ‘clean the city’ drive. Half an hour before the beginning of the match at Dinamo’s Maksimir stadim there were about 100 spectators. At the same time, a peaceful protest of mothers who were planning to walk the centre of Zagreb holding white roses is expected to be held in Zagreb’s Ban Jelacic Square, due to the murder of 18-year-old Despic. The boy perished in a skirmish after a member of the Agram Boys, an extreme group of the BBB, stabbed him with a knife. This was the purpose for last night’s “peaceful” protest carried out by the Bad Blue Boys, everything was part of the ‘city cleaning’ drive. The Boys did not clean the city, however they did brake the camera belonging to a cameraman for the HTV (Croatian Television), while the police quietly observed. However, tonight, there are many more policemen gathered in the square. On the other side of Zagreb, in Maksimir, the police have occupied Maksimir stadium. ************************************************************* Zagreb’s Mayor Protects Fans, Punks PanicSpeculations that fans will seek revenge for the death of Frane Despic is stupidity – said Ivan Sagud from the fan club. Speculations that the Bad Blue Boys (the fan club of the Zagreb football team Dinamo, BBB for short) are planning “revenge” for the death of Frane Despic with an attack against Zagreb’s punks, metal-heads and alternatives is pure stupidity – they claim from the fan club. In a telephone conversation, Ivan Sagud, the president of Dinamo’s fan club, told us that the Boys do not want to provoke unrest between any subcultures, especially in the city they live in. BBB: We will not make statements for every stupidityThe fan club was asked why they have not issued a statement distancing them from the anonymous email, in which they warn people to keep clear of Zagreb’s Josip Jelacic Square, because of the alleged gathering of 200 or so fans that will go on a “hunt” to popular alternative gathering places, including Mocvara, Route 66 and similar. The fan club responded by saying that they do not have to make a statement for every stupidity, and that they only make statements when serious issues are in question. Sagud: Nothing good comes from revengeWhen asked about a sub-group of Dinamo’s fans, the so called "Agramer Crew", that is know to the public to be very aggressive and destructive, Sagud claims that their “actions” have been greatly exaggerated. - The brutality of the fans is always mentioned, but what about police brutality? There are millions of situations where they arrest us and bother us only because we are members of a fan club. I can only say that there will always be situations where somebody gets into a fight for one reason or another, but this tense situation will calm down in a few days time, that is certain – said Sagud. He added that the fan club can not be held responsible for acts of certain individuals, and that the fan club does not support violence. “We will try to stop the gathering from occurring”The chief of Zagreb’s police department Marijan Tomurad said that people should not be concerned for safety in the city, calling upon media headlines a few days ago since the death of Frane Despic. The police are being accused of not reacting on time to an “incident” at Ribnjak, which is often the case. However, Tomurad claims that the police arrived as soon as they could and that the police patrols are doing their job correctly. He added that he will strengthen security on the streets and during football matches, on top of the security that is already being implemented. The police will not take any extra actions for the anonymous email. - We will try to stop any gathering, but we will not place police officers at the doors of Mocvara or the Hard Rock Café – concluded Tomurad. Zagreb’s mayor: I will not play prophetZagreb’s mayor Milan Bandic said that he has not heard of any gathering by Dinamo’s fan club, and that he does not answer to questions of the type; what if… Bandic said that the media should not hang anybody before anything actually occurs, meaning the revenge for the death of the fan Frane Despic. The anonymous email and events in Ribnjak sent fear into the bones of zagreb’s residents before Easter. Is this just talk from some unserious quasi fans, a media “duck” or does Zagreb really have to prepare for a “bloody” Easter, will be known on Saturday. According to stories from the streets, punks, metal-heads, rockers and other members of sub-cultures are greatly concerned about the alleged revenge by the Bad Blue Boys, but the bravest will still go out on Saturday night, but will not wear any “giveaway” markings/clothing in order to avoid becoming a potential target.

| Football fan faces jail - 29/03/2008
Source : Ipswich Evening Star
A FOOTBALL fan who punched a rival supporter three times is facing the threat of jail today.
Dad-of-two Trevor Green turned violent during a night of shame for Ipswich Town when fans ran riot following defeat to Watford.
Blues supporter Green, an engineer for BT, of Blickling Close, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to affray and admitted attacking Watford fan Geoffrey Bonsor.
Green, 28, had to be pulled off Mr Bonsor by his father and is now facing a possible prison sentence and a ban from football matches.
South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court heard that the violence had taken place at the corner of Portman Road and Sir Alf Ramsey Way after the Blues 2-1 defeat.
Neil Saunders, mitigating, said Green had struck out because he thought he heard a rude comment about his mother.
He said: “He agreed he pushed Mr Bonsor and he punched him three times as he was going to the ground. Mr Green's father pulled him off.
“He has got absolutely no idea why he reacted in this fashion. It is totally out of character.
“His family are shocked, he is shocked. He knows he is going to be punished.”
Green, who has worked for BT for eight years, is the second football yob to appear in court as a result of the nasty scenes of violence which erupted after the game on February 9.
Earlier this month Blues fan Robert Reed, 30, of Malvern Close, Ipswich, was banned from going to football matches for the next three years after admitting threatening an opposition supporter.
Green also faces a similar banning order when he is sentenced next month and magistrates have not ruled out a custodial sentence as punishment.

A second man is also being treated in hospital after trouble broke out in King Street on Saturday afternoon. It is understood football supporters were involved in the violence after Linfield's victory over Cliftonville in the Irish Cup semi-final. Police were called to the scene at about 1530 GMT. A spokesman said police officers intervened and two men were taken to hospital by ambulance. Sinn Féin said the trouble was started by a crowd of Linfield supporters. Sinn Féin assembly member Paul Maskey said: "I urge people not to get involved in any retaliation. The people who carried this out need to be ashamed of themselves. They need to be arrested and put behind bars for a very long time." The condition of the second man who was taken to hospital is not known. ************************************************************* Man critical after football violencesource: newsletter.co.uk There has been widespread condemnation of weekend violence among a mob of 30 football fans in Belfast which left one man fighting for his life in hospital. Police said the clash took place near a pub at the Castle Street junction with King Street about 3.30pm. It is reported that violence flared after Celtic Fans coming out of a bar met Linfield supporters coming home from their match with Cliftonville. The mob then moved to the College Avenue/College Street area where there was more violence before police intervened. Two men were later taken to hospital by ambulance. A spokesman for the Royal Victoria Hospital said one man injured man was critically ill in intensive care while the other had been treated for head injuries and released. Lord Mayor of Belfast Jim Rodgers said that "all hell had broken loose" involving about 30 rival fans. He added: "I am just appalled and sickened by this violence which has left a man fighting for his life." A member of Linfield FC's committee said the club would be investigating the violence. "Our thoughts are with the injured man and we would wish him a speedy recovery," he said.

| Lens rage after PSG fans banner insult - 30/08/2008Source : ESPN Lens mayor Guy Delcourt has asked for Saturday's French League Cup final to be replayed after Paris St Germain supporters unfolded a racist banner during the game at the Stade de France. 'Paedophiles, unemployed, inbred: welcome chez les Ch'tis' read the banner referring to a film about the life of the Ch'tis, a nickname for the people of northern France, which is breaking box office records in France. The banner was unfolded at the start of the second half of the game won by PSG 2-1 through a controversial penalty scored three minutes into added time. 'Even if we had won the game, I would have asked for a replay,' Delcourt, who is also a member of parliament, told a news conference on Sunday. 'I took the banner as an insult to all the people of northern France, to all the mineworkers who died for our country,' he added. 'I'm going to file a complaint and I'm asking the judge to hear as a witness President Nicolas Sarkozy and all the ministers who attended the game. We'll go all the way. It's an affair of state.' Lens coach Jean-Pierre Papin asked the French league to impose sanctions on PSG as they did on Metz after Valenciennes' captain Abdeslam Ouaddou was racially abused during a Ligue 1 game last month. 'When I see the banners of the PSG supporters, it hurts,' said the former France striker. 'Metz were severely punished and I think PSG should also be severely punished.' | |

| Fan's death halts Juventus-Parma match - 30/03/08
source: telegraph.co.uk
Juventus's Serie A match at home to Parma on Sunday has been called off after the death of a supporter at a service station outside Turin.
The 28-year-old male, a Parma fan, was run over and killed by a bus, local news agencies reported.
The bus was empty at the time of the incident but was being used to transport Juventus fans to the game in Turin. According to reports, there had been skirmishes between rival supporters at the service station.
The incident happened on the same round of matches as the death of Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri back in November.
He was accidentally shot by a policeman after violence broke out between travelling Juventus and Lazio fans at another service station.
The death of Sandri sparked violent protests in several grounds around the country leading to some matches being postponed.

Four arrested after rail station fracas
FOUR football fans were arrested after trouble broke out at Manningtree Railway Station last night, police said.
The men were arrested following a disturbance at the train station around 6.30pm.
Essex Police officers arrested the men, aged 44, 47, 48 and 50, for offences ranging from affray to actual bodily harm and public order offences.
They were taken to Clacton Police Station, where they are currently being interviewed by British Transport Police officers.
It is thought they were QPR fans travelling back from the match against Ipswich Town. ************************************************************* Source: Ipswich Evening Star
Terrified Town fans attacked 31 March 2008
Paul Sankey indicates the window that was smashed by vandals at the Manningtree station buffet
A BAYING mob of away football fans descended on a bar full of Ipswich Town supporters and embarked on a frenzied attack, which up to 50 people were caught up in.
A gang of about 15 Queen's Park Rangers fans smashed bottles, threw bar stools and punched customers in one of the worst scenes of football violence in recent months.
The incident was the third of its kind in the last two months where trouble has been caused following matches, prompting fears the dark days of football hooliganism have returned.
Witnesses reported seeing the away fans, who were on their way back to London from Saturday's goalless match at Portman Road, get off the train as it pulled into Manningtree station at about 6pm. They then burst their way into Manningtree Station Buffet and began shouting “we are QPR” while throwing bottles and punching ITFC fans, including one pensioner.
More than half of the home fans in the café bar on the platform at Manningtree station were children as young as eight, who were left petrified by the random assault in which three home fans were injured. One person was taken to Colchester General Hospital.
The incident ended when the fans ran back to the train however the National Express service was halted by police and kept at the station for about 15 minutes.
Four men, aged 44, 47, 48 and 50, were arrested by Essex police for offences ranging from affray to actual bodily harm and public order offences. They were taken to Clacton police station where they were interviewed by British Transport Police officers.
A spokeswoman for Essex police said: “We were called about 6.15pm to the Buffet to reports of a fight with Ipswich and QPR fans. There were 50 of them in total. BTP are now dealing with the incident.”
Paul Sankey, 52, who has owned the Station Buffet for the last eight years, described the incident as “scary” and said his 21-year-old daughter Charlotte, the only staff member working at the time, was very shaken up.
Mr Sankey was called as the violence erupted and he arrived just as the fans were running back to the train.
He said: “I locked the door and stood by it to stop anyone from coming in. Charlotte had taken the children up towards the back so they were kept out the way.
“We get a lot of fathers bringing their children in here before and after games. There were a lot of women and children in here at the time. They were petrified and some of the children were crying.
“I think the fans knew what they were doing because they all got off at a door right opposite us. We do have a lot of Ipswich fans come in here on match days when they are waiting for their trains, but they are usually families.
“Charlotte was just shouting at them to get out. She was shaken up afterwards. It was scary enough for a man let alone a young girl or children.”
Staff at the station called police and officers from Essex police and British Transport Police quickly arrived at the scene.
Two windows were smashed, and with the amount of glass and bottles broken as well as a bar stool, Mr Sankey believes the damage will come to about £300.
A spokesman for the BTP said: “The British Transport Police aren't out to spoil the fun but members of the travelling public, including law-abiding football fans, have the right to travel in safety on match days without fear of being abused or assaulted by a few rogue elements.”

It is thought they were QPR fans travelling back from the match against Ipswich Town

SPURS CONFIRM ARREST
Tottenham have confirmed that a Chelsea fan was arrested for making anti-semitic gestures during the recent Barclays Premier League clash between the two teams at White Hart Lane.
"Chelsea are dealing with him and he will receive a life ban from Stamford Bridge," read a statement from Spurs ahead of their defeat to Newcastle.
Spurs also revealed five supporters were arrested after last week's victory over Portsmouth following an undercover operation in the South Stand of White Hart Lane.
It was part of the club's attempts to combat foul, abusive or racist singing at the ground.
"As a result, five fans were duly arrested for this offence," the statement continued.

| Ferguson urges fans to take care in Italy - 30/03/2008
Source : Ireland Online
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is calling on supporters to take notice of security advice when the team face Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday in Italy.
Ferguson wants no repeat of the violent scenes that have marred recent matches between the clubs as his side prepare for this quarter-final first leg fixture.
Five United fans were stabbed in clashes with opposing supporters in December in the final group game.
Scenes of violence and disorder marred the two clubs’ Champions League games last season, although the October meeting at Old Trafford passed off peacefully.
Eighteen United fans needed hospital treatment last April after clashes on the terraces in Rome and outside the ground.
Italian police were accused by United club officials of handing out “indiscriminate beatings” and violence flared again a week later at the return leg when scuffles broke out outside the ground.
A volley of missiles was thrown at Roma supporters as they entered the away end turnstiles and 21 people, including 14 United fans, were arrested.
In his programme notes for the Aston Villa match, Ferguson said: “My main concern as we plan for Tuesday is the safety of our travelling fans.
“Last season the Italian police made a hash of security in the ground and a few of our people were hurt.
“That was put right when we went to Rome in December but there was still danger on the streets and a number of stabbings.
“I urge everyone who intends to go to Rome to heed the security advice so everything passes peacefully.
“Hopefully then we can concentrate on a testing but exciting match.”
