Espanyol fans jumped by 'yobs in hoodies' after Wolves Europa League win
Three Espanyol fans were attacked by a group of "scumbags" in Wolverhampton after the Spanish club's 4-0 loss at Molineux last night.
Two men in their 30s and a woman in her 40s were injured in the attack, which happened next to the old Canal Club near the Ring Road at around 10.30pm.
The Spanish supporters are believed to have been jumped by a group of teenage boys dressed in black hoodies, who ran off after leaving the woman with a badly-injured nose.
The victims were helped by passing Wolves and Espanyol fans before police arrived at the scene on the corner of Wednesfield Road and Ring Road St David's.
The incident happened around 90 minutes after a Diogo Jota hat-trick and Ruben Neves volley meant Wolves comfortably won the first-leg of the Europa League tie.
Molineux season ticket holder Kevin Rogers, 59 and from Wightwick, was among those who stopped to check on the injured supporters as he made his way to his car after the match.
He said: "We were concerned so walked up to them and could see a lady slumped on the floor and a group around her - a mix of Espanyol fans, Wolves and passers-by.
"They spoke really good English, the Spanish fans, and said a group of yobs - around age 15 - in black hoodies had attacked them, totally unprovoked.
"This 45-year-old lady had been attacked. The poor lady, she was traumatised. It was absolutely awful.
"I would be amazed if she hadn't broken her nose, they had just lashed out.
"Another guy had a graze under his eyeball from where he'd been hit. Then they had just ran off."
Mr Rogers, who attends matches home and away with his wife Lindsey, is the CEO of not-for-profit health cover provider Paycare and a trustee of the Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation.
"This was a family group - not a bunch of yobs," he said.
"They said they just wanted to come to the game for a party. The lady was so slight in build too. It's just horrendous.
"We are proud of our city but then there are scumbags that make us feel like this. It's awful."
A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed the force is investigating and asked anyone with information to contact the force via 101 or the police website quoting crime reference number 20WV/47245A/20.
Mr Rogers said a passing ambulance stopped and gave the woman a dressing for her nose but couldn't stop longer as a patient was on board.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics were sent to the scene but were stood down by police before they arrived.
Meanwhile a 24-year-old man from Spain arrested in the ground on suspicion of racially aggravated abuse remained in custody on Friday.
