England : Brighton supporter jailed for eight weeks for racist abuse during game against Tottenham in October - 01/02/2020
Source : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/
A Brighton supporter received an eight-week prison sentence for using racist language during the game against Tottenham at the Amex Stadium in October last year.
George Reynolds has been banned for life by the club for all matches and events.
Reynolds was reported to have used vile and racist language during the game, and then made threats to several fans who challenged him over his actions.
Sussex Police officers arrested Reynolds on suspicion of using racially aggravated language with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress; and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
On December 5, Reynolds pleaded guilty to both offences when he appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court.
Paul Barber, Brighton's chief executive and deputy chairman, welcomed the verdict and stated that he hopes Reynolds' conviction will be 'a watershed moment' for Brighton.
As reported by Sky Sports, Barber said: 'We welcome the verdict. There is no excuse for racism in any form, either inside a football stadium or anywhere in society.
'We have a zero-tolerance policy on racism and the individual will also be subject to a life ban from all of our fixtures, premises and events.
'We take no pleasure in imposing bans on supporters but we have made it very clear on numerous occasions that we have zero tolerance for any kind of discriminatory behaviour, and the sanctions we impose will be commensurate with what is totally unacceptable behaviour.
'As Sussex Police have said in their statement, alcohol played a part in Mr Reynolds' actions but this is not an excuse as it is also a criminal offence to be intoxicated inside a football stadium. And, despite other fans' objecting to and ultimately reporting his behaviour, Mr Reynolds persisted.
'Looking forward, I hope that Mr Reynolds' conviction is a watershed moment, at least for our club.
'There is no place for racist or discriminatory behaviour in our society, let alone in this or any other football stadium. Put simply, we don't want to witness it here or anywhere else again.
'On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank those supporters who provided the club and Sussex Police with witness statements. It is extremely heartening to know that we can count on your support to help rid our game and society of such abhorrent behaviour.'

FC Metz supporters denounce the use of facial recognition
Facial recognition is a subject of debate, including in the world of football.
Facial recognition soon at the gates of stadiums ? The national supporters' association denounced its supposed use on Sunday 2 February during a league 1 football match between FC Metz and Saint-Etienne. Even if the Metz club denied it, supporters of both sides deployed banners and wore medical masks during the match to denounce the possible use of this new technology.
In Metz, supporters are convinced that the device was tested at the entrance of the stadium during the match against Strasbourg. They are based on information from journalist Olivier Tesquet who assured in an interview with the site StreetPress that facial recognition had been used at Stade Saint-Symphorien, without warning the supporters. "We refuse to become laboratory rats", reacted the national supporters association which "requests the immediate suspension of any short program".
On social networks, FC Metz denies having used this facial recognition but explains that this device is well tested in a start-up in the region. "Iit is currently only technical vacuum tests, performed on employees of the start-up ", specifies the club.
The ultimate goal will be to prevent banned stadium supporters from being able to access the stands through facial recognition. Once the tests are deemed successful, this system will be well implemented, not just in Metz. The Sports Ministry confirms that it will be used in other stadiums and for major sporting events to improve security and combat terrorism.

Chelsea fans were filmed by an undercover reporter in Lille on October 2019 - 07/02/2020

Undercover reporter films anti-Semitic Chelsea fans making Nazi salutes, singing about 'Yids' and imitating a gas chamber in Lille... as new BBC film exposes the staggering growth of racism in football
Shocking new footage has emerged of Chelsea fans performing Nazi salutes, singing anti-Semitic songs and mimicking the noise of a gas chamber.
The explosive revelations feature in new BBC Three film Shame In The Game, which examines the devastating impact of football racism in the UK after a year which saw hate crimes at professional games soar by 66 per cent in England and Wales.
The documentary also lifts the lid on former Premier League striker Marvin Sordell's decision to quit the game at the age of 28 because of the racist abuse he received, and how one non-League player was forced to seek counselling.
Three of the most sickening incidents featured took place in France on October 2 last year, the day Frank Lampard's side beat Lille 2-1 in the Champions League.
Although the behaviour of Chelsea supporters was not made public at the time, an undercover reporter captured the shameful scenes as fans took over the French city.
In one clip, Blues supporters can be seen outside singing an anti-Semitic song about their London rivals, Tottenham.
A group of supporters are heard chanting: 'We hate Tottenham - Yids! We hate Tottenham - Yids!', with two individuals appearing to make Nazi salutes.
In another clip, a fan can be seen leading a song about former Spurs striker Martin Chivers while riding a train.
The lyrics are: 'Chivers was a Jew. The thing between his eyes was twice the normal size. Yiddo, Yiddo, Yiddo.'
In a separate incident filmed on a train in Lille on the same day, fans can be heard hissing to imitate the noise of a gas chamber.
The appalling episodes were filmed during research for Shame In The Game, which explores how racism is continuing to blight football at all levels.
Chelsea and Kick It Out were contacted by Sportsmail for comment regarding the footage.
This is not the first time Chelsea fans have been accused of racist abuse.
It was claimed that a group of supporters were involved in anti-Semitic chanting during a 2-2 Europa League draw away at Hungarian side Vidi in December, 2018.
UEFA charged the club with racist behaviour after a small section of fans were allegedly heard singing a song which referred to Spurs disparagingly as 'Yids'.
Chelsea condemned their own supporters' 'abhorrent' behaviour and urged them to 'summon brainpower' in a strongly-worded statement after the game.
