Another smoke bomb let off at Woking FC game - 29/10/2015
Source : http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/ (thanks to the sender)
The club has already been investigated by the FA over similar incidents earlier this season
Woking FC's problem with unruly fans has continued after yet another pyrotechnic was detonated during one of its games.
A miserable afternoon away at Maidenhead on Saturday (October 24), which saw the Cards crash out of the FA Cup 3-0, was compounded when a yellow smoke bomb went off behind the host’s goal shortly after kick-off.
There was more trouble in the second half when a visiting fan was thrown out by club stewards for aggressive behaviour.
It was the latest in a series of incidents this season that have seen the club investigated by the Football Association (FA), just as it seeks to emphasise its community credentials.
Earlier this month, an "unbelievably loud" firecracker went off behind the Kingfield Road end of the newly-renamed Laithwaite Community Stadium in Woking, forcing fans to clutch their ears and leaving children in tears.
This followed the September home game against Forest Green where a fan let off a flare, prompting the FA investigation - although no fine was ultimately imposed.
Club bosses are convinced the trouble-makers represent a tiny minority of Cards fans, but their frustration at the continuing transgressions was obvious this week.
Mike Smith, the club’s chairman, told GetSurrey: “We already know how seriously the FA take this.
“We are doing everything we can to educate people, but there is a certain section of people who don’t want to know, which is worrying.”
Exasperated Cards fans took to social media this week to rail against the culprits.
One, called KingoftheField, said: “Leaving after 60 mins and trying to start fights to convince yourself you’re proper nawty [sic] green street geezers is cringeworthy and embarrassing,” a reference to the 2005 film Green Street about West Ham football hooligans.
The fans’ disquiet was not confined to issues of match-day discipline this week though, with concerns circulating next month’s publication of the club’s accounts for last season would reveal losses of up to £437,000.
However, while Mr Smith said he could not comment on specifics of the accounts until he had addressed shareholders at an Annual General Meeting on November 16, he sought to reassure club supporters, saying there was nothing new about the current financial situation.
“We’re trading in exactly the same way as any other year,” he said. "We have got a bottom-eight budget but we have finished 12th, 9th and 7th.
“All the basis are covered.”
It is understood this year’s losses were increased by two additional costs, details of which will be revealed on November 16.

Scotland: Arbroath - Montrose - 17/10/2015

Fans warned after derby match descends into violence on the streets
A warning has been issued to Angus football fans after a derby match descended into violence and disorder with flares being thrown and fighting in the streets.
Arbroath and Montrose football clubs have issued the warning jointly with Police Scotland after the violent scenes in and around Gayfield Park, Arbroath, on Saturday.
Police confirmed there were at least five instances of pyrotechnics being used and five arrests in total.
Fans have been told they will be arrested and banned from attending all future football games if they are found with flares.
Chief superintendent Eddie Smith said: "Pyrotechnics of any kind at football matches are extremely dangerous and can cause significant life-changing injuries for those carrying them.
"It is extremely concerning to find that at the recent match at Gayfield Park there were five instances within the ground where pyrotechnics were used.
"The majority of fans are there to enjoy the match and want to do so in a safe and secure environment.
"Due to the close joint working of police and stewards, two people were found with pyrotechnics in their possession before the match. These individuals were arrested and will be banned from attending all future games.
"After the game, officers had to be deployed to deal with significant clashes between opposing fans in the centre of Arbroath.
"Three youths were arrested for their part in the disorder. Be in no doubt that my officers will identify others who were involved in this conduct.
"I would urge anyone with information in relation to this matter, to come forward and let my officers know.
"My officers will be working closely with both clubs and other partners to prevent the type of incidents we encountered on Saturday.
"I want to remind those who were intent on causing disruption that their actions will not be tolerated and that there is no place for this type of behaviour at any football game."
The game ended 3-1 to Arbroath but the fans took their rivalry out of the stadium after the match.
Derek Sim, chairman of Montrose Football Club, said: "Montrose Football Club is totally against the use of pyrotechnics at football matches and any identified supporter bringing these to a game will be banned as they are both dangerous with subsequent health and safety issues.
"We are very disappointed a number of supporters decided to not only bring these to the game but also became involved in confronting opposition supporters in the streets following the match.
"This behaviour is totally unacceptable and cannot be tolerated."
John Christison, chairman of Arbroath Football Club, added: "Arbroath football club will be taking decisive action against those that were involved in the use of pyrotechnics at the match and the disorder that followed. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable."
Chief superintendent Eddie Smith has asked that anyone with information about those behind the disorder in Arbroath on Saturday phones Police Scotland on 101 or phone the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Hearts condemn behaviour of bus attack yobs
HEARTS have released a statement condemning the behaviour of a group of supporters who are alleged to have attacked a Ross County supporters’ coach prior to Saturday’s match.
The fans, known as the “Young Team”, who are said to regularly sit behind the goals in the Roseburn stand, were accused of an attack the coach, stealing a drum from a County fan and even stealing a steward’s cap.
It is understood no complaints were made to the police. However, Hearts have been quick to condemn the youths’ behaviour.
A club statement read: “It is with considerable disappointment that the club, once again, is put in the position of having to apologise both to our own supporters and, in this case, to Ross County Football Club and their travelling support for the appalling behaviour of a small group of 15-25 young so-called “Hearts supporters”.”
“Let us make it clear...the club does not need these individuals and, most certainly, does not want them if this is going to be the way they continue to behave.
“Ann Budge has contacted the Ross County chairman to personally apologise and to ask that this apology is passed on to the supporters and to the coach driver, whose trip to Edinburgh was so badly tainted by the behaviour of this group.”
The club went on to make it clear that they would be exploring all possible avenues and undertaking varying strategies to ensure that this kind of behaviour does not occur again in the future.
“The club is doing everything in its power to put an end to this type of behaviour.
“We have been working closely with Police Scotland and other agencies to gather sufficient evidence against the individuals involved to enable the appropriate action to be taken. It gives us no pleasure to say that a number of fans will be banned as a consequence of their recurring bad behaviour.
“We will now be working additionally with other agencies including schools and social work departments to try to take a more holistic view of the problems facing our football club and the wider community.
“Within the stadium at all forthcoming home games we will have a greater stewarding presence and on some occasions, Police will be monitoring certain areas directly. We are also now looking at implementing much more strenuous ticketing control measures.”
Hearts revealed that a number of fans, who had taken to social media and online forums to state their anger with those involved, had contacted the club individually, demanding action be taken against those responsible.
“Our inbox at Tynecastle is filled with emails from Hearts supporters asking us to take action and we want to assure them, that we will not rest until we have satisfactorily addressed this problem.
“We will certainly never accept it as “an inevitable part of the game” here at Tynecastle.”
