The level of hooligan violence at Swiss football and ice hockey games has remained stable over the past two years, according to an official police report.

Though a direct comparison is difficult, since the sporting seasons were interrupted by Covid-19 back in March, the general picture remains stable, said the Federal Office of Police (Fedpol) on Thursday.

When it comes to the Super League and Challenge League – football’s top two tiers in Switzerland – 27 of 323 games in the 2019-2020 season were affected by “severe violent incidents”, compared to 48 of 457 games in the 2018-2019 season.

For ice-hockey, 21 of the 666 games played in the top two leagues last season were affected by violence, compared with 12 of the 708 the year before.

The most common offences last year were breaching the peace (387 cases), infringements of the explosives law (298), not adhering to the ban on face-coverings (251) and engaging in violence or intimidation towards authorities (168).

The ‘Hoogan’ database, a register of known hooligans, contained 1,525 names in June 2020, Fedpol said. The lion’s share (1,089) were linked to football, and just 23 of them were female.

Police have been trying to crack down on violence at football and hockey games in recent years; in 2016, a nationwide office was launched to coordinate efforts between cantons, football authorities, and ice hockey authorities.

At 3.30pm, at kick-off, supporters from both teams have clashed in front of a pub.
Thirteen people were arrested.

That game in Zupanja was forbidden for Torcida members but they have travelled and police forces intervened at 5.15 in the station area to avoid any fight between Torcida and Bad Blue Boys.
Five supporters were arrested and pepper sprays and batons were taken by police.



Other incidents later took place between supporters of Split, who eventually gained access to the stadium, and police.

THUGS who were part of a ‘baying mob’ of Pompey fans who rained down bottles, coins, pool balls and bricks on riot police have been jailed.

Seven men were prosecuted at Portsmouth Crown Court today out of the hundreds involved in the disorder outside Fratton Park at the Southampton game last year.

All had been riled up by the ‘intense’ rivalry between the clubs in the first derby since 2012, with more than 600 officers deployed to keep the peace.

Up to 90 known ‘risk’ Saints thugs arrived by train at 5pm but in what followed riot police, drawn from forces across England, were forced to strike Blues hooligans with batons to keep the rivals apart.

Disorder broke out before, during and after the Carabao Cup match on September 24, with Saints fans entering Fratton Park with head injuries from thrown coins.

Now seven men who threw ‘missiles’ have been jailed for a combined 12 years and each handed a six-year football banning order.

Daniel Marsh received 27 months, Jamie Robb was jailed for 20 months, and Michael Foy got 24 months.

Cameron Blackman was sentenced to 16 months, while Jamie Steeves got 18 months, Jack Halstead was handed 16 months and Lewis Harbour received two years.

Judge David Melville QC said the men were involved in ‘disgraceful’ behaviour involving ‘serious disruption’ that caused ‘severe detrimental impact to the community’.

Prosecutor Simon Jones said the 70 to 90 ‘risk’ Southampton fans arriving on the train threw bottles onto the platform towards Pompey fans at Cosham station when it stopped.

As they arrived at Fratton in Goldsmith Avenue the fans threw red smoke flares as a ’baying mob’ of Blues fans waited for them.

Mr Jones said: ‘While officers tried to clear a group of hostile Portsmouth supporters numbering 400-500 at this point, the first missiles, glass bottles, were thrown at police.

‘They were faced with hundreds if not thousands of Portsmouth supporters refusing to move as they clearly want to engage with Southampton fans.’

Portsmouth fans ‘relentlessly’ threw punches at the Southampton fans guarded by a police escort moving from Fratton station along Goldsmith Avenue to Fratton Park.

They struck over officers' shoulders and in gaps in the police lines, Mr Jones said.

One mounted officer was struck in the neck with a large metal scaffolding clamp but she carried on providing an escort on her horse despite her injuries.

Conflict largely stopped at Ruskin Road, with Saints fans reporting to stewards several head injuries from stones and coins having been thrown at them.

Flares were thrown during the game, with a two-litre bottle, coins and lighters thrown at Saints fans during the match where the Blues lost 4-0.

More trouble erupted after 300 Blues fans waited near the away turnstiles in Apsley Road waiting for Saints fans as police cleared them into Goldsmith Avenue.

Around 300 fans were at the Shell garage ‘jumping around getting pumped up’ before they were cleared.

Hooliganism was a growing problem in England and it was tarnishing the country’s reputation abroad. Riots involving Spurs fans at the 1974 Uefa Cup final, Leeds supporters at the 1975 European Cup final, and England followers in Luxembourg in 1977 were just a few examples of an issue that would become known as the English disease.

Trouble was never far away. The night before England’s opening match in Turin, police arrested 36 English supporters. Belgium’s equaliser set them off again. Goaded by Italian fans celebrating the goal, England’s notorious following was about to make a mark in an unwanted manner. A riot squad moved in, unleashing tear gas grenades into the crowd in an attempt to contain the disturbances. But this approach backfired when England fans threw some of the canisters back towards the pitch. The players struggled to see clearly and referee Heinz Aldinger was forced to suspend the match for five minutes.

One policeman was injured at his head and nine people were arrested.

Police blast Celtic fans who set off flares before Rangers match saying their actions are 'disappointing'

Police in Glasgow said they were ‘disappointed’ with fans at Saturday’s Celtic v Rangers match.

Match commander Superintendent Stevie Dolan revealed that pyrotechnics were set off outside Celtic Park before the game, despite Nicola Sturgeon, police and both clubs telling fans to stay away.

Celtic fans greeted the arrival of their heroes with smoke bombs and firecrackers that emitted green smoke and a banner that stated simply: "Today, nothing else matters".

Officers said that no arrests were made at the stadium before, during or after the match that Rangers won 2-0.

Slovakia : Ultras Mount Violent Protest Before Gov’t Office, Police Uses Water Cannon - 17/10/2020

A crowd of several hundred Slovan Bratislava ultras protested on Saturday in front of the Government Office against the COVID-19 epidemiological measures, demanding the ouster of Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO).

The protesters were kicking the gate of the Government Office and throwing flares over it, while shouting profanities against the Prime Minister.

The unrest prompted the police to use tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowd, while the ultras responded by throwing stones and bottles at the riot unit.

In response, Petra Friese of the Interior Ministry told TASR that the protest by ultras was absolutely irresponsible, while Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (OLaNO) posted on Facebook that the protesters won’t escape justice.

“It’s really pathetic that at the time when the number of the infected with COVID-19 is on the alarming rise and the state of emergency is in effect, with the ban on gathering, there are still people who respect none of that,” pointed out Mikulec. He added that the protest lacked substance and its only aim was to provoke, a pitiful demand of the ultras and far-right to attract attention.

Mikulec thanked the police officers for their “fantastic work”. “No, don’t let us get provoked. We won’t play their primitive game, as their only goal is to start a brawl and get into a fight,” he added.
