England v Poland: Hooligan Threat at Wembley Fears - 14/10/2013
Source : http://www.ibtimes.co.uk
Polish police officers will be on patrol in London looking for hooligans in town for the England versus Poland match at Wembley.
Reports suggest that 18,000 Poles will be at Wembley to support their team in the World Cup qualifier, and police are mindful of the violent reputation which sections of the visiting support brings with it.
Football hooligans from Poland are fanatically dedicated to their clubs and battle rival fans in large-scale fist fights as part of an honour code which espouses a creed of violence. According to reports, several Polish hooligan groups have been infiltrated by far-right extremist organisations.
During last year's Euro 2012 tournament, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, 183 people were arrested in Warsaw during running battles involving Russian and Polish fans, sparked by nationalist fervour.
In response to the threat, spotters from police forces in Poland are going to be on watch at Tube stations and at Wembley Stadium. They will swoop on known hooligans who may have come to cause trouble.
The sizable police presence follows a detailed intelligence-sharing operation between the Metropolitan police and Polish authorities ahead of the match.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers will be working with spotters from Poland as part of the operation. There will be a large, highly visible policing operation in central London, surrounding key transport hubs and Wembley Stadium itself. Police and stewards are there to try and help keep people safe."
The authorities have also taken the unusual step of turning Wembley in to a dry zone by turning off the beer pumps all around the stadium for the match. England and Poland fans will even be prevented from drinking in the same pubs ahead of kick-off.
England supporters will be banned from drinking in five pubs close to Wembley Stadium by police. Officers will direct Poland fans wearing the national kit or other garments like scarves to drink only in prescribed pubs containing no England fans.
Chief Superintendent Colin Morgan said: "We have been planning our operation for weeks. What we want is for all the fans who are heading to the match to cheer on their national team to have a great, safe, night out."
Poland have already been eliminated from reaching the World Cup next year and will only be playing for pride during their trip to London. Meanwhile, England can book a place at next year's World Cup in Brazil by beating their visitors.

England : Atherstone Town chairman works with police to find hooligans - 15/10/2013
Source : http://www.tamworthherald.co.uk
Chairman Rob Weale was this week surveying the damage caused to Atherstone's reputation after crowd violence in Saturday's FA Cup clash with Barrow AFC catapulted his club into the national spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Weale admitted he had been left devastated by the events which unfolded at Sheepy Road on Saturday afternoon.
Atherstone, enjoying a memorable run in the FA Cup this season, were trailing 4-0 to their Conference North opponents at half time when a small group of home wreaked havoc at the ground, committing acts of violence against visiting fans. Atherstone are now set to face the wrath of the FA, while Warwickshire Police are searching for those involved.
Weale has spent the week working with both the FA and Police to discover how the events unfolded, as well as apologising to fans from Barrow and his own club. And he must now try to rebuild the club's reputation throughout football. He said: "It's sickening what has happened. "The day was supposed to be a pinnacle one in the history of our club. "But what should have been a fantastic celebration for Atherstone has been totally destroyed. "It has just left us all feeling very numb to be perfectly honest with you and again I can only apologise to everyone who had to witness those scenes. "I will be working closely with the Police and other authorities to identify and help bring prosecutions against those involved. "In the long term, I will work hard to rebuild our good reputation."

Serbia : Car windows smashed, shampoo thrown inside, in protest against Red Star football players - 15/10/2013
Source : http://www.washingtonpost.com
Nine cars belonging to Red Star Belgrade soccer players had their windows smashed and shampoo bottles hurled inside in an apparent protest by fans against the team’s poor results.
The incidents in the Red Star stadium parking lot on Tuesday came a day after the players issued an open letter claiming Serbia’s most popular club is facing an “alarming” financial situation amid bickering within its leadership.
The players said they have to train on poorly maintained fields in the largest stadium in the Balkans, and they even lack shampoo in the dressing room.
Red Star, which won the European Cup in 1991, owes millions of dollars to its players, coaches and creditors and for years has endured poor results. The fans blame the players.

Flares, masks and lots of noise... 20,000 Polish fans invade Wembley but are silenced by Brazil-bound England
Around 20,000 Poland fans descended on Wembley for Tuesday night's make-or-break World Cup qualifier with England, bringing flares, masks and even more red-and-white scarves to the home of English football. With the FA having sold 18,000 tickets to away fans - and many seats in the home end believed to have been bought by enthusiastic Poles - Wembley and the surrounding area was overrun with passionate visitors. Red flares were lit both outside and inside the stadium, with some supporters sporting Halloween-style masks before and during England's 2-0 win. However the atmosphere created by Poland's travelling army wasn't enough to spur Waldemar Fornalik's side to a memorable victory, as Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard sealed the Three Lions' passage to Brazil.

It is understood that 16 people were arrested for being in possession of or using flares, while six were held for being drunk and disorderly, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports have also claimed that fan Marcin Lukomski will appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court next month for allegedly invading the pitch during the clash.
It is believed that three fans have been fined, nine are in custody, eight have been cautioned and 15 supporters have been released.

66 Hooligans Detained ahead of Bulgaria’s Biggest Football Derby
A total of 66 people have been ahead of the much-anticipated clash between Bulgaria giants Levski Sofia and CSKA Sofia, according to the country’s Interior Ministy.
There is increased police presence in downtown Sofia, according to reporters.
Police patrols have been also stepped up near the capital’s asylum centers, as reports have emerged that neo-Nazi football hooligans from both teams may attempt to assault refugees.
Earlier on Friday, Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov confirmed that a total of eight hooligans, including seven fans of Levski and one of CSKA, attempted to assault four foreign nationals “of African origin” in front of the Banya Bashi mosque in downtown Sofia.
Lazarov told the Bulgarian National Radio that police prevented the xenophobic assault. The CSKA-Levski match kicked off at 4 PM EET at Sofia's Vasil Levski National Stadium.

Brazil : Paysandu - Avaí FC - 18/10/2013
Source : http://www.sunherald.com
Match stopped after fan violence in Brazil
A second-division match in Brazil was stopped in the second half after fans disappointed with their team's performance threw rocks and explosives onto the pitch, marking the latest case of fan violence for the 2014 World Cup host.
The protests in the northern city of Belem began just after Avai scored in the 75th minute to take a 2-0 lead against home side Paysandu on Friday. After a few minutes, the referee decided it was not safe to continue as police tried to regain control.
There were no reports of serious injuries. Police said some Paysandu supporters were detained.
Last week, seats were destroyed at a World Cup venue and police confronted fans inside two different stadiums. Two matches were delayed two weeks ago because of fan fighting and overcrowded stands.
Paysandu fans began throwing rocks toward Avai reserve players just after the visitors scored their second goal at Curuzu Stadium. The reserve players ran onto the pitch to get away from the sideline where the fans were throwing things at them, prompting the referee to interrupt the match and call for police help.
The ref tried to continue the match after police temporarily controlled the situation behind the bench, but the problem escalated when fans behind one of the goals also began throwing rocks and explosives onto the field.
Local media said even oranges were thrown at players, and television images showed one bomb being thrown from the stands and exploding just a few meters (feet) from a group of police officers on the pitch. A few fans tried to break the fences separating them from the field.
Police used pepper spray and batons against the fans in the stands, but it was not enough. Referee Grazianni Maciel Rocha talked to authorities and decided to end the game, giving Avai the 2-0 win.
A victory at home was crucial to keep alive Paysandu's hopes of staying in the second division next year. The club is in relegation danger with eight rounds left.
Fan violence has become a common occurrence in Brazil in recent weeks.
World Cup organizers last week said more than 80 seats were destroyed at Arena Castelao by Fortaleza fans upset with the team missing out on promotion to the second division. A day earlier, more than 30 seats were damaged by fans of second-division club Ceara following a draw at the same venue.
That same weekend, police hit fans with batons inside Morumbi Stadium and later detained at least 30 people following a confrontation with supporters on one of the city's major avenues. Television images showed bloodied fans throwing punches at officers and some fans with small children trying to flee the chaos.
