Soccer clubs, police crack down on hooligans at Melbourne games - 07/10/2013
Source : http://www.news.com.au/
SNIFFER dogs will be used to search for flares, video analysts sent to high-risk matches to track known offenders and rogue supporter groups targeted by clubs in an unprecedented crackdown on Victorian soccer hooligans.
An historic partnership will today be announced between police, the State Government, Football Federation Australia and rival Melbourne clubs to kick out violence and anti-social behaviour at Victorian matches.
Bigger fines, tougher penalties, a stronger push for court prosecutions for feral fans and a new level of intelligence sharing will be pursued.
In some of the most significant changes seen in Victorian sport, the shake-up will see:
A DEDICATED police investigations team headed by a high-ranking detective formed to probe all criminal incidents at A-League matches;
RIVAL teams Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart ban flags and banners of splinter supporter groups in the stands, clamping down on the association of rogue fans;
DOB-a-yobbo text messaging hotlines for matches at AAMII Park as well as Etihad Stadium for the first time to encourage fans to alert police and security about troublemakers;
STRONGER ticket entry regulations with members forced to scan their pass on entry and again when they reach certain parts of the ground and;
IMPROVED CCTV and video monitoring of fans.
Police Commander Rick Nugent said the red card on crowd violence and crime in Victorian soccer came after months of work.
"There is a total commitment now to doing everything we can to ensure that we have violence free A-League games," he said.
"What we're doing is collectively standing up against violence ... we're going to do whatever we can to ensure we provide a safe environment for supporters, families and kids who come along to watch sport.''
A-League boss Damien de Bohun said he expected more people banned from matches with information collected by the group to be more concise and better managed.
"We're in a much better position to identify and act on that at matches and you will find that will become a much bigger focus this season and beyond,'' he said
"We will know exactly who is in which part of the ground throughout without any question.''
If successful, the Victorian model is expected to become a national action plan for controlling soccer crowds with the FFA to meet NSW Police, agencies, venues and teams next week.
Victory and Heart will employ marshalls to monitor crowd behaviour and have appointed club great Kevin Muscat and former goalkeeper Clint Bolton as Go For Zero ambassadors to help sell the message.
Muscat said matches had to become more family friendly, following a string of serious incidents last season including a man king-hit by a rival fan and a police officer struck by a supporter.
"We love the fact that the atmosphere at football games is unrivalled across any other sport and we certainly encourage passionate support in the stands,'' Muscat said.
"However, we don't want a small minority to ruin the experience for others."
The police Public Order Response team will regularly attend matches along with uniform and plain clothes officers, targeting public order and alcohol-related violence.
On the spot fines of $772 will be issued to anti-social fans and bans from attending matches lifted from two years to a maximum of five years.
The A-League season kicks off on Friday night with a crowd of up to 50,000 expected for the blockbuster Melbourne derby between Victory and Heart at Etihad Stadium.

Bulgaria : New Levski Sofia coach dragged out of press conference - 09/10/2013
Source : AFP
Fans of Bulgarian side Levski Sofia gave new coach Ivaylo Petev a hostile welcome on Tuesday, forcing him to remove his team shirt and dragging him out of a news conference. The action by some 20-30 fans came after the club, currently sixth in the table, announced it was parting company with Serbian head coach Slavisa Jokanovic after less than three months in charge. They demanded that Jokanovic be reinstated and accused Petev of being a fan of Levski's arch crosstown rivals CSKA Sofia. The two teams are due to meet on October 19. The 45-year-old Jokanovic signed a one-year contract with Levski in mid-July but poor results prompted the club to replace him, its management told local media. Levski, one of the country's most popular clubs, have 19 points from 12 games, and are nine points behind leaders Ludogorets Razgrad -- where Petev used to be coach. It was unclear whether Petev would now take up the position.

Spain : Four Real Madrid fans fined for displaying Nazi symbols - 10/10/2013
Source : http://www.euronews.com
A Spanish government commission has imposed fines of 3,000 euros each on four Real Madrid fans who displayed Nazi symbols at last month’s La Liga match against city rivals Atletico at Real’s Bernabeu stadium.
The four were members of the radical “Ultras Sur” group and the symbols displayed including a swastika and the German word “Totenkopf”, a reference to the Nazis’ SS paramilitary organisation, according to an official who asked not to be identified by name.
Real, who lost the match 1-0, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The fine of 3,000 euros for the four fans, who were not named and were also banned from sporting venues for six months, was the same as the sanction given to another spectator who shone a laser at Atletico coach Diego Simeone during the game, according to an Interior Ministry statement.
The punishments were imposed by Spain’s commission against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.

England : Police reveal CCTV images of City v Rovers hooligans - 11/10/2013
Source : http://www.bristol247.com
The first official game between the two city sides since 2007 was marred by a number of incidents in the city and outside the ground
Police have released CCTV images of suspected hooligans who took part in violence during the day of the Bristol City/Bristol Rovers Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match last month.
The first official game between the two city sides since 2007 was marred by a number of incidents in the city and outside the ground.
Roads around south Bristol were blocked for more than an hour as officers attempted to clear streets of fans. Three police officers were injured during the incidents and required medical treatment.
At the end of the game, some fans went on to the pitch and were forced away by police on horseback.
Some 21 arrests have been made so far, and police have now released images of 24 more people they want to speak to.

England : Figures shows 240 United and City fans arrested last season - 10/10/2013
Source : http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk
The statistics did not take into account average attendances, or the fact that the two Manchester clubs played more games over the season in Europe and cup competitions than most other Premier League sides.
More than 200 United and City fans were arrested by police at football matches last season, government figures have shown.
A total of 145 Reds supporters and 95 Blues were detained by officers for offences linked to football games.
A Home Office bulletin revealed the figures in a ‘league table of shame’ which showed United and City ranked second and third behind Newcastle United for the total number of arrests.
However, the statistics did not take into account the fact that the two Manchester clubs played more games over the season in Europe and cup competitions than most other Premier League sides.
United played 54 games and City ran out 51 times over the season, whilst clubs like Fulham, Southampton and West Brom played just 42 matches.
The government stats also did not factor in the larger than average crowds in Manchester, particularly the 70,000-plus crowds at Old Trafford.
When the M.E.N conducted analysis of the figures for home match arrests, we found United dropped down to third in the league, below Newcastle and Sunderland. And City fell down to fifth place behind Chelsea.
The Blues’ arrest total included 17 fans who were arrested at matches abroad during the Champions League campaign. They accounted for all but three of the 20 arrests of English fans on the continent.
But some Blues complained about their treatment by foreign police at their games with Real Madrid and Ajax, with allegations of heavy-handed crowd control.
United’s arrest total was further distorted by a high number of ticket tout arrests, with ten of all the 25 touting arrests for the season taking place at Old Trafford.
The Home Office figures showed Fulham fans were the best behaved but when the number of games and average crowds are factored in, we found it was Reading who had the best record for home games.
Overall arrest figures were down from 814 to 722 in the Premier League although they were up in the other three divisions. Bolton saw 46 fans arrested, Oldham 20, Wigan 18, Bury 14 and Rochdale 2.
Chief Superintendent Mark Roberts, who oversees football policing for Greater Manchester Police, said: “We have got control of the problem but it would be dangerous to think that it does not exist. In Manchester, we have two of the best-supported clubs who play more matches that have more at stake, so there will be problems.”

47 banning orders in place against Hull City fans - 11/10/2013
Forty-seven banning orders are in place against Hull City supporters, new figures reveal. The figures have been released by the Home Office, which covers banning orders and arrests across all four English divisions. This season, up to September 20, there have nine banning orders issued. In all, the number of banning orders in place are average for the Premier League. Cardiff are highest, with 121 banning orders issued. Last season, 25 Hull City fans were arrested, mainly for public disorder and alcohol-related offences. There were also four arrests for use or possession of a firework or flare and three arrests for violence.

England: Atherstone Town - FC Barrow - Cup - 12/10/2013

Hooligans cause havoc during FA Cup match between Atherstone Town and Barrow
A group of around 30 yobs invaded the pitch and one elderly supporter was punched in the face
Football hooligans caused havoc at an FA Cup match today, attacking players and supporters alike.
The shameful scenes played out during Atherstone Town's FA Cup third qualifying round home match against Barrow.
Trouble broke out when the Warwickshire club found themselves trailing 4-0 at half-time.
A group of home fans, around 30 strong, ran across the pitch and entered a section of the Sheepy Road ground containing Barrow supporters.
One even managed to get as far as the Barrow dressing room door, where he threatened a player.
One elderly supporter was injured and said by bystanders to have been left bloodied, while Barrow substitute Greg Mills, out on the pitch during the interval, was seen tussling with an Atherstone fan after being confronted.
A flag belonging to the Barrow supporters was taken also by Atherstone fans, who attempted to burn it.
The start of the second half was delayed by more than 10 minutes.
The match finished 4-0 in Barrow's favour, with several away supporters deciding to quit the ground soon after half-time.
Barrow club secretary Russell Dodd was at the game.
He said: "Just as the half-time whistle sounded, a group of home supporters ran across the pitch to the Barrow fans.
"Flares were thrown at the Barrow fans and punches were thrown too.
"One or two had grazes including an old chap who had been to the toilets, walked back in, and got punched in the face.
"Our substitutes were warming up and got attacked too.
"The players ran off, assisted by the Atherstone substitutes, and there was an incident in the tunnel too when a fan got in and knocked on the dressing-room door.
"He didn't get in, but he said he wanted a word with one of our players who went out and was threatened.
"The Barrow fans who travelled were magnificent.
"Some fans left at half-time which was quite understandable.
"We spoke to the home club afterwards, and the referee was aware of the incident in the tunnel which he'll be reporting."
Atherstone chairman Rob Weale offered a swift apology for the disturbing scenes.
He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "I am personally embarrassed about the scenes here at half-time.
"It was unacceptable. Obviously, we will be pursuing the perpetrators.
"We will work alongside the security officers, the referees and the police and those people responsible will feel the full force of the law.
"The situation was defused as quickly as possible, the police came in to take control but once it has happened it has happened and I apologise to the Barrow fans."

At the end of the game, as Juventud fans were stayed inside the stadium by police, some of them invaded the pitch so police used rubber bullets against them and one of them lied on the floor, wounded at his left eye.
