Spartak Moscow - Zenit Saint Petersburg - 02/10/2011

Source : Hindustantimes.com

Zenit fans 'attacked' ahead of Spartak clash

Dozens of people on Sunday held up and attacked a bus transporting fans of Saint Petersburg side Zenit to watch their team's tense clash with Moscow giants Spartak, police said. The Zenit fans came under attack by around 30 unknown individuals who had earlier arrived in several cars.

Zenit and Spartak fans are known for their mutual hatred and the fixture is one of the most tense in the calendar.
"The group of young people pelted the bus with stones and then attacked the fans with bats and sticks," Moscow region police spokesman Yevgeny Gildeyev told the RIA Novosti news agency.

"The number of injured is being investigated." He said three cars were later stopped by police and their occupants are being interrogated as suspects.

The match is due to take place at 1200 GMT at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium with all 60,000 tickets reported to have been sold and 2,500 police set to be deployed to ensure order.

The head of police for the Tver region between Saint Petersburg and Moscow where the incident happened, Denis Chernykh, told the ITAR-TASS news agency that the cars had Moscow number plates and contained around 30 people.

Source : Expatica.com + Sport10.at

Swiss match halted by crowd violence

A Swiss first division football match between Grasshopper and Zurich was called off on Sunday because of fighting between rival fans.
The game was stopped a first time after fans threw firecrackers but restarted a few minutes later. But the referee decided to end the game after 77 minutes because of continued unrest with hosts Grasshopper leading 2-1.
Both sides are struggling in the league.
Swiss football's disciplinary commission will decide whether the result stands or if the game will be replayed.

UK: Brawling fans banned from matches over terror on Tube platform - 03/10/2011

Source : Yorkshirepost.co.uk

FOOTBALL fans from Rotherham who brawled on a platform at a London tube station after their team lost a vital match have been banned from games in England and Wales for three years.

Six other men, also from Rotherham, were given suspended sentences and community service for their part in the fight at King’s Cross.

Violence broke out following Rotherham United’s League Two play-off final against Dagenham and Redbridge at Wembley on Sunday, May 30 last year.

After the game – which Dag and Red won 3-2 – the eight men boarded a Metropolitan line train heading towards King’s Cross.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said that, when on board, they “became rowdy and started chanting loudly.”

As the train arrived into King’s Cross, a fight broke out between the group and other supporters. Bottles were thrown at the train and passengers were threatened.

The eight men were arrested two months later and were sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court in London on Friday, September 23.

Both Craig Rockett, 33, of Pepper Close in Rotherham and 26-year-old John Vernon, of Badsley Moor Lane in Rotherham, pleaded guilty to a public order offence and received a three-year football banning order, a four-month suspended prison sentence, must perform 100 hours of community service work and were ordered to pay £200 costs.

Under the ban, Rockett and Vernon must not enter any premises in which football is being played.

On days when Rotherham United or the England national team are playing a home game, they are banned from travelling on the railway network or London Underground transport system.

Another man who should have appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court in connection with the incident has failed to appear and is currently on the run.

Inter Milan - Napoli - 02/10/2011

Source : AFP

Hooligans trash airport to celebrate Napoli win

A group of Napoli hooligans smashed windows, doors and check-in desks having gone to the Capodichino airport in Naples in the early hours of Sunday morning to greet their returning team, Italian news agency Ansa reported.
Around 500 fans went to the airport between 00.30am and 1.00am local time and covered all the exits waiting for the team to return from Milan, where they had beaten Inter 3-0, and leave by coach.
However, some of those fans entered the airport and went on the rampage.
One security guard was slighty hurt in trying to stop hooligans from breaking down a door.
Local and federal police were called in to provide reinforcements.
The team coach left the airport at 3.30am.

Everton FC - Liverpool FC - 01/10/2011

Source : Liverpooldailypost.co.uk

Merseyside Police request CCTV of missile-throwing fans at Everton FC

POLICE will examine CCTV footage in a bid to identify football supporters throwing missiles at the weekend’s Merseyside derby.

Bottles and coins were hurled at Liverpool FC players on three separate occasions during Saturday’s stormy fixture. Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez picked up a coin and brandished it at referee Martin Atkinson as he prepared to take a last-minute corner.

Substitute Craig Bellamy was also the target for objects thrown on the opposite side of the pitch. A bottle was also flung at Liverpool’s Andy Carroll as he celebrated scoring the opener at Goodison Park.

Last night Merseyside police told the Daily Post they had spoken to Everton FC and were arranging for stadium CCTV to be passed to officers. If the faces of suspects can be identified, attempts will be made to track down offenders and prosecute them.

Everton described the incidents as “unacceptable” and said they were ready to take decisive action against any fan caught in the act.

The derby atmosphere turned sour after just 23 minutes when referee Atkinson sent off Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell for what appeared to be a perfectly legitimate tackle.

Down to 10 men, Everton eventually lost the fixture 2-0 after holding out for 71 minutes of the match.

With details of the missile incidents likely to be in Atkinson’s report, Everton face the danger of receiving a fine from the Football Association.

UK: Detectives to search CCTV for hooligans from Albion's Crystal Palace clash - 04/10/2011

Source : Theargus.co.uk

A special team of detectives is trawling hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to identify hooligans from Albion’s clash with Crystal Palace last week.

Police are gathering evidence to support court orders banning people involved in the violence from matches.

If they cannot prosecute, they plan to ask Brighton and Hove Albion itself to bar individuals from the American Express Community Stadium.

About 200 police were tasked with keeping the peace before, during and after the rivals’ clash last Tuesday, which Albion lost 3-1.

They made 20 arrests for crimes including assault and public order offences.

Detective Chief Inspector Nev Kemp, head of Brighton and Hove CID, said more arrests are likely to follow.

He said: “A team is going through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to identify offenders.

“We are going to try and get banning orders and stop people going to future games.

“If the evidence doesn’t support a prosecution, we’ll talk to the club about getting them banned.”

Zeljeznicar - Hajduk Split - Friendly - 06/10/2011

Zeljeznicar-Hajduk match in Sarajevo cancelled due to fan violence

A friendly match between Sarajevo’s football club Zeljeznicar and Split’s Hajduk has been cancelled after violent clashes between the two team’s fans landed eight people in hospital.

The stadium in Sarajevo’s Grbavica neighbourhood turned into a battlefield when Hajduk fans from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s town of Kiseljak stormed the rival team’s fan section and started the fight. Although police managed to kick out the warring soccer enthusiasts, the fight continued outside the stadium, spilling into some neighbouring streets.

Eight people were hospitalised with fractures and other injuries. One person, a 28-year-old M.B. from Split, received surgery for rock-induced wounds to his head. Fifty people were arrested, the majority of them were from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Only 15 or so supporters from Hajduk’s hometown Split came to see the game, daily Slobodna Dalmacija writes.

Six injured in violence ahead of friendly

At least six people, including one policeman, were injured on Thursday in violent clashes ahead of a friendly between Croatian side Hajduk Split and Zeljeznicar of Sarajevo, local media reported.

The Dnevni Avaz daily reported in its online edition that the violence erupted when Hajduk fans entered a section of the Grbavica Stadium designated for Zeljeznicar supporters.

Hooligans threw bottles, torches and stones before police managed to separate two rival groups, it added.

"Six people were injured, with preliminary examinations revealing only minor injuries," a Sarajevo hospital spokeswoman was quoted as saying.

Violence also broke out in the city where hooligans attacked three vehicles carrying visiting fans, the daily said, adding that two vehicles were set on fire.

Local media also reported that gunshots were heard around the stadium.

The match, due to be played to mark Zeljeznicar's 90th anniversary, was eventually postponed.

Greece - Croatia - 07/10/2011

Source : Yahoo.co.uk + Reuters + Jutarnji.hr (thanks to the sender)

Fans throwing fire and seats get Greece-Croatia match halted

The Euro 2012 qualifier between Greece and Croatia was temporarily suspended less than three minutes after kickoff on Friday when over 100 masked individuals entered a stand and attacked the Croatia supporters.
The group, some wearing motorcycle helmets, threw flares and at least one petrol bomb in their direction. Some Croatia fans responded by ripping off seats and throwing them at their attackers.
The game resumed after a six-minute interruption, but the Croat supporters, said to number about 700, continued ripping seats and throwing them at riot police, who responded with pepper spray.
Given all the violence Greek fans have caused during domestic matches in recent months, it's amazing they're not playing every match behind closed doors. Then again, after this incident, that might be coming.

Uefa backs Manchester United fans' complaints over Marseille police - 07/10/2011

Source : The Guardian

• 'A negative attitude by police to supporters in general'
• Improvements for away fans have already taken place

Uefa has pledged to "pay close attention" to the treatment of away supporters at Marseille after accepting the complaints of Manchester United fans who were beaten by police and subjected to dangerous crushes.

Marseille, who host Arsenal on 19 October, have changed the away access at the Stade Vélodrome after Uefa started to investigate the incidents before and after United's match in France in the last 16 of the Champions League in February.

Various supporters' groups, including Reds Away, have been working with the Football Supporters' Federation to instigate a full Uefa inquiry after reports of fans being kept in a holding area, known as Hall 7, before the match and struck with batons. After the game there was only one gate to leave through and more reports of injuries.

Uefa's head of match-day operations, Marl Vouillamoz, has now written to the federation to say he has "no reason to doubt the veracity of the supporters' accounts of events" and that there was "a negative attitude on the part of the police to supporters in general".

Vouillamoz wrote that "Uefa will be paying close attention to the treatment of away supporters at this venue during the coming season", although he indicated the trouble was caused by "the late arrival of many United supporters and the disorderly behaviour of a small minority".

Uefa has studied a security report from Marseille's home game last month against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to discover whether the United incident was a one-off or part of something more serious.

"We will be talking to Marseille," Vouillamoz writes. "It is, however, of interest that the report highlights an improvement in the access arrangements for away supporters and an improvement in facilities in Hall 7. These changes include better queuing systems and control … and escorting of smaller groups than those on previous occasions."

The Guardian has been told by senior figures in Greater Manchester police they were deeply unhappy about the actions of their French counterparts, believing them to be "baton-happy" and ignoring the advice of the officers who regularly travel with United's supporters and had warned many fans would arrive late.

Barcelona fined £100,000 by Uefa for incidents during Super Cup win - 207/10/2011

• Barcelona censured for poor timekeeping and fans' behaviour
• Fans lit 10 flares during 2-0 victory over Porto in Monaco

Barcelona say they have been fined €110,000 (£100,000) by Uefa because of incidents during their European Super Cup victory over Porto in August.

The Spanish champions have until Sunday to appeal over the decision.

Lionel Messi and Cesc Fábregas scored in Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Porto in the match between the Champions League and Europa League winners.
