Police arrest 15 in Dortmund violence
Police say 15 people were arrested and several injured in clashes between officers and Dynamo Dresden supporters (more than 10.000) at a German Cup match at Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund won Tuesday's match 2-0 and advanced to the third round. Dresden's supporters clashed with police before, during and after the match. Two officers were among the injured.
The match was briefly interrupted several times when Dresden fans threw firecrackers and flares onto the field.
Dortmund's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said the troublemakers from Dresden caused damage estimated at 150,000 € ($208,905). The visitors destroyed about 200 seats, damaged kiosks and set toilets on fire, Watzke said.
The clashes came on the same day that German police reported the number of people injured in violence at games in the two top divisions reached a 12-year high last season.

DFB to investigate after Dresden fans riot
The German Football Federation (DFB) on Wednesday launched an investigation after rioting in Dortmund by Dynamo Dresden fans led to police officers being injured and more than a dozen arrests.
Second-division Dresden lost 2-0 at German league champions Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in the second round of the German cup, but violent scenes marred the game which was screened live on terrestrial television.
Two police officers were injured and 15 fans were arrested after clashes before, during and after the game saw police pelted with bottles and fireworks before officers in riot gear used pepper-spray to break up groups of fans.
The kick-off had to be delayed by 15 minutes and the referee stopped the game briefly three times after objects were thrown onto the pitch while Dresden fans constantly set off fireworks in the Dortmund stadium.
After the final whistle, visiting fans rioted by smashing up rows of seats and local police claim known criminals from the Dresden area had travelled with the football fans.
By Wednesday afternoon, the police had charged more than a dozen people and the DFB have said they will launch a full investigation.
"Never before in my career in charge of football operations have I experienced such massive attacks against police," said Dortmund's chief superintendent Peter Andres.
"In my eyes, these alleged football fans are just criminals who have it in for the police.
"They use the cover of the innocent fans to commit their acts of violence."
Dynamo Dresden's president Andreas Ritter said the violence had tarnished his club's image.
"We have ruined our reputation in Germany, that has to be said," said Ritter, whose club has been fined in the past by the DFB for their fans' conduct.
"We can't go on like this. Dortmund has shown us how we can deal fairly with each other and we have to learn from that."
Dresden captain Cristian Fiel, who had tried to calm the fans, admitted he was disillusioned and striker Robert Koch said the conduct of Dresden's fans had shamed him.
"What these anarchists have done again is simply not acceptable," the 25-year-old told German television broadcaster ZDF.
"They are incorrigible.
"I am ashamed, I must honestly say."

German police say the number of fans injured in violence at matches in the top two divisions last season reached a 12-year high. A report published Tuesday says 846 people were injured in clashes between rival fans. Counting the third division, more than 1,000 people were injured. However, there were fewer arrests with 6,061, a decrease of 723 over the previous season. About 2,500 known troublemakers are banned from attending matches nationwide. Police say 9,685 fans are registered as violence-prone across the country.

Police probe soccer clashes in Huddersfield after Preston game
The flare-up was at the Gas Club in Gasworks Street after Saturday’s Town v Preston game at the Galpharm Stadium.
One man was detained after police were called to break up a disturbance involving rival fans.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “After a group of around 50 Preston fans left the game after half time and went to the Gas Club, we advised the owners not to let any more fans into the club.
“Some Huddersfield fans did get into the club however and, as part of our inquiries into this incident, we will be liaising with the owners of the Gas Club to establish how this situation arose.
“It would therefore be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time”.
Police are also checking CCTV images after further disturbances at the ground.

Switzerland: Sports season sees rise in hooligan figures - 26/10/2011
Source : Swissinfo.ch
Police have blacklisted another 67 sport hooligans since the start of the football and ice hockey season in July. As of October 2011 there were 1,198 people in the Federal Police Office’s so-called “Hoogan” database. They include fans who have been banned from stadiums or from travelling to matches abroad and those having to report to police stations during events.
Hooligan figures are released twice a year by the police. Football troublemakers make up the majority (70 per cent), compared with ice hockey fans (30 per cent). Just over half are aged between 19 and 24 and a quarter are aged between 25 and 29. Nine are women.
The most common offences are rioting and use of explosives, together accounting for 539 cases. Others include property damage as well as violence and threatening behaviour against the authorities.
So far, 63 people have been removed from the database since July.
Sports violence is not uncommon in Switzerland. Earlier this month a football game in Zurich was stopped after unrest broke out in the terraces. It was the first time in the history of professional Swiss football that a match had been halted.

Police probe into football violence
Pre-organised violence broke out after Wednesday night's Scottish Communities League Cup football match, police have said. Celtic and Hibs fans clashed following the Glasgow side's 4-1 quarter final victory at Easter Road in Edinburgh. Shortly before 9pm Celtic fans on a coach parked outside the International Bar on Brougham Place started vandalising the vehicle from the inside, breaking three windows. A fight then broke out between fans on the bus and Hibs fans outside. Two men, aged 22 and 23, who were passengers on the coach, were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with minor head injuries. Detective Sergeant Mike Leask said: "This disorder has been pre-organised by those involved in football-related violence and has resulted in two men requiring hospital treatment. "The coach also sustained significant damage and the disturbance will have undoubtedly unsettled local residents and businesses. "Lothian and Borders Police will not tolerate violence and disorder in any form and are currently carrying out a robust investigation to identify everyone involved in last night's incident. "Last month, officers made numerous arrests across Edinburgh and East Lothian as part of a post-match operation following disorder at a friendly match in August. "The public can rest assured we will be undertaking similar enquiries to bring these culprits to justice and anyone who can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately."

Cyprus: Football hooligans jailed for nine months - 27/10/2011
Source : Cyprus Mail
TWO men were yesterday jailed for nine months for seriously injuring three other individuals during football-related violence in Nicosia around three years ago. The pair, aged 25 and 26, werefound guilty, among others things, of causing grievous and actual bodily harm and of attempted arson on a building. They were part of a group of around 20 Omonia supporters who attacked the fan clubhouse of archrivals APOEL in April 2008, beating three men in the process. The incident came in retaliation to an attack against the Omonia fan clubhouse the previous day. The most seriously injured of the three APOEL supporters had suffered a blow to his left eye, causing permanent damage to his sight. “It has to be understood by everyone ... that lawful societies do not tolerate such behaviour, which represents terrorism and barbarity,” District Judge Lefteris Panteli said. “Dominance and revenge, especially with such serious consequences, have no place among us.” The judge rejected a defence request to suspend the sentence saying the seriousness of the offenses did not allow that. A third defendant had been acquitted of all serious charges after the prosecution failed to prove he had been present during the incident. He was fined €500 for possession of an unused pepper spray canister, found at his home after the incident.

Russia: Murderer who sparked race riots gets 20 years - 28/10/2011
Source : http://rt.com
A Moscow court has found North Caucasus native guilty of murdering a football fan in a street brawl and jailed him for 20 years. Thousands strong riots followed the shooting of Egor Sviridov in central Moscow in December 2010. Cherkesov was found guilty of all charges – murder, attempted murder, hooliganism and assault. The defendant pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, arguing that he was fired the weapon in self-defense and without intent to kill. His co-defendants, Akay Akayev, Artur Arcibiev, Nariman Ismailov, Khasan Akayev and Ramzan Utarbieyev, also from Russia’s southern republics, will spend five years behind bars after being found guilty of hooliganism and assault. The judge said that by the verdict of the jury all defendants had found guilty of a savage premeditated attack on Sviridov and his companions on December 6. As a result of the fight some of Sviridov’s friends were injured, and Sviridov himself died of gunshot wounds to his head and stomach at the scene. Russian prosecutors had asked for a 23-year prison sentence for Aslan Cherkesov and seven to eight years for the five other defendants. Cherkesov's defense is to lodge an appeal to the Supreme Court over the sentence, which they say it too severe. Answering questions from journalists, Cherkesov’s attorney, Dmitry Pankov, said he believed his client had been handed an excessively harsh sentence because the case had been politicized. “You all understand perfectly that our case has political shadow, even though it was not a political crime,” he said. Police arrested Cherkesov and his five co-defendants in the wake of the fight, released Cherkesov’s companions just a few hours later. This sparked violent protests by Spartak Moscow fans and nationalist extremists who marched in their thousands to Manezh Square near the Kremlin, giving Nazi salutes and throwing flares at police in what was dubbed a race riot. The crime rocked Russia and led Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to pay personal tribute to Sviridov and visit his grave.

Itay: Trouble brews as Napoli fans queue for Bayern tickets- 27/10/2011
CHAOS broke out in Naples on Thursday morning as fans squabbled while queueing to buy tickets for next week's Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Napoli in Germany. There were 2,500 tickets on sale at Napoli's San Paolo ground on Thursday but around 5,000 people queued to try and buy the tickets, Italian media reported. Some people had queued overnight, staying at the ground after Napoli's 2-0 win over Udinese on Wednesday night. But chaos ensued when turnstiles opened at 10am on Thursday and some fans climbed barriers to try to jump the queue. The sale of tickets had to be suspended while police restored order, although at one point bottles and other objects were thrown at the police. A similar scene took place last year when tickets went on sale for Napoli's Europa League match away to Liverpool.

Six policemen were wounded and some windows of vehicles were smashed up. Near the stadium one drunken Siegen supporter who lied of the floor and who said he was attacked was helped by medecine men. But police intervened to avoid any fight between both sides. More than 20 KFC supporters were arrested.
