Belgian police detain 76 suspected hooligans ahead of Anderlecht-PSG in Champions League
Belgian police have detained 76 suspected hooligans in the run-up to the Champions League game between Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Police said all of the detainees were French except for seven Belgians, and three of Polish origin with knives and iron knuckles but many were also detained on information given by French authorities. Most of the detentions were preventive and there was been no widespread fighting late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Although Belgium has been spared serious hooligan incidents for a few years, there have been intense rumours that hooligan factions of both clubs would clash before the match. Police have some 400 officers on standby in and around the stadium.

CSKA Moscow charged with 'racist behaviour' over Yaya Touré chants
Uefa has charged CSKA Moscow with "racist behaviour of their fans" after Manchester City's Yaya Touré complained of monkey chants against him during the Champions League match in Moscow.
The Russian club have denied any racist abuse took place during Wednesday night's match but will face a disciplinary hearing next week.
A Uefa statement read: "Proceedings have been opened against CSKA Moscow for racist behaviour of their fans (article 14 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations) and for setting off of fireworks (article 16) at last night's Uefa Champions League group stage match in Moscow against Manchester City.
"The case will be dealt with by the Uefa control and disciplinary body on 30 October."
CSKA have already denied that their fans directed monkey chants at Touré saying they are "surprised and disappointed" by Manchester City's response. Their forward Seydou Doumbia even claimed that his Ivory Coast teammate was "clearly exaggerating" over the abuse.
A club statement said: "Having carefully studied the video of the game, we found no racist insults from fans of CSKA. In many occasions, especially during attacks on our goal, fans booed and whistled to put pressure on rival players, but regardless of their race.
"In particular, this happened with Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko. Why the Ivorian midfielder took it as all being directed at him is not clear."
CSKA also quoted Doumbia as saying he did not hear any racist abuse. "I didn't hear anything like that from the CSKA fans. Yes, they're always noisy in supporting the team, and try to put as much pressure as possible on our opponents, but they wouldn't ever allow themselves to come out with racist chants. So my Ivory Coast colleague is clearly exaggerating."
The club's deputy media manager, Michael Sanadze, told Sky Sports News that "nothing special happened" despite the midfielder complaining of sustained racial abuse from the crowd during his side's win.
"There is no subject to discuss," Sanadze said. "Nothing special happened. There was a lot of noise in the stadium. Nobody else, other than Yaya Touré, heard anything. The only trouble that has come about was because Yaya Touré heard something."
Listen to Yaya Touré's interview on BBC Radio 5 Live Link to this audio Uefa warned on Thursday that clubs will no longer escape with just fines if their supporters are guilty of discriminatory behaviour.
City's Ivory Coast midfielder called on the governing body to close the Moscow stadium as punishment for the abuse he suffered, and under the new rules a partial closure looks certain if the allegations are proved.
A first offence of racist behaviour by supporters carries a sanction of a partial stadium closure and a second offence leads to a full stadium closure plus a fine.
The referee Ovidiu Hategan failed to take any action despite Touré's complaint. Uefa's regulations state that the official should have stopped the game and asked for an announcement over the public address system for the chants to cease.
It has led to calls from anti-racism campaigners for the referee to be banned. "The referee should not be refereeing again," the Kick It Out chairman, Lord Ouseley, told BBC Radio 5 live. "He failed to do his duty last night and that is a clear issue that Uefa should be dealing with."
Touré said: "I'm not just disappointed, I'm furious. I'm very, very disappointed about what those fans have done and I think Uefa has to take action because players with the same colour of skin will always be in the same position.
"For me, as captain, I was wearing an armband which said 'no to racism' and I was totally disappointed. Maybe they could ban the stadium, I don't know, for a couple of years or a couple of months.
"It's stupid, these people. I don't know, it just happens in football. It's unbelievable. Uefa has to take action to right it otherwise I think they will just continue."
So far this season, Uefa has imposed full stadium bans on three clubs – Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia, Legia Warsaw of Poland and Honved of Hungary – for racist behaviour by their supporters while five other clubs have had partial stadium closures imposed. They are: Lazio (who were originally handed a full stadium closure that was reduced on appeal), Polish clubs Lech Poznan and Piast Gliwice, Apoel Nicosia of Cyprus and the Croatian team HNK Rijeka.

UK Football Fan Jailed for Punching Police Horse - 23/10/2013
Source : http://www.theguardian.com
A British football fan has been jailed for 12 months for punching a police horse in the head after his team lost a derby match.
Barry Rogerson was one of several fans arrested after violence erupted following Newcastle United's 3-0 loss to Sunderland on April 14. Clashes between their fans aren't uncommon because of the fierce rivalry between both teams.
The 45-year-old Rogerson, who was drunk, first clapped in the face of, then punched Bud, a horse working for West Yorkshire Police.
Judge Paul Sloan sentenced him Thursday to 12 months in prison for violent disorder and banned him from attending any soccer matches in the U.K. for six years.
Sloan said the officer riding Bud could have easily been thrown off the horse and been badly hurt.

BRAZIL CLUB CRUZEIRO PUNISHED OVER FAN VIOLENCE - 25/10/2013
Source : http://www.stowsentry.com
Brazilian league leader Cruzeiro will have to play one home match away from its stadium because of fan violence involving its supporters.
Brazil's sports tribunal on Friday also ruled that Sao Paulo will play four matches away from its home because of fan fighting.
The tribunal said Cruzeiro also has to pay a $15,000 fine after the team's supporters confronted police during the 1-0 loss to rival Atletico Mineiro on Oct. 13 in Belo Horizonte. Sao Paulo also will have to pay a fine for the incidents in the match against Corinthians that same day.
Several cases of fan violence have hit 2014 World Cup host Brazil in recent months, and Vasco da Gama, Corinthians and second-division club Palmeiras all have lost home games because of confrontations this year.
Police used tear gas to contain the Cruzeiro supporters and later found homemade explosives among some of the team's fan groups at the Independencia Stadium. Television images showed that at least one of the devices was hurdled into the section where Atletico Mineiro supporters were sitting. No injuries were reported.
Atletico Mineiro, the home team, was fined about $10,000.
Cruzeiro said it will appeal.
"This is a police case," Cruzeiro club director Alexandre Mattos said. "Authorities need to prosecute those involved in the incident. We did all that we could have done."
Seeking its first national title since 2003, Cruzeiro has a nine-point lead over second-place Gremio with eight rounds left in the Brazilian league. The club will still be able to host the match against Criciuma at the Mineirao Stadium on Saturday. It's possible the suspension is served against Gremio, depending on the length of the appeal process.
Because of the tribunal's suspension, Sao Paulo will not be able to play home matches until the end of this year's Brazilian league. The team is 10th in the 20-team standings. It plays at Internacional on Sunday.
The tribunal also fined the six-time champion about $40,000 for the problems in the match against Corinthians at the Morumbi Stadium, when police used batons to keep Sao Paulo supporters from invading the rival fan section. Television images showed bloodied fans throwing punches at officers and some fans with small children trying to flee the chaos.
After the match, supporters from both teams clashed at a major avenue. A bus carrying Sao Paulo fans had nearly all of its windows destroyed and police seized several iron bars and rocks used in the confrontation. Authorities detained at least 30 people involved in the clash, including several women.
The tribunal fined club world champion Corinthians about $10,000 because some of its fans also were involved in the incidents at the Morumbi.

Swedish club fined for fan trouble - 10/10/2013
Source : http://asia.eurosport.com
Second-tier Swedish club Hammarby have been fined 250,000 Swedish crowns ($38,700) and ordered to play two matches behind closed doors following violent clashes at a recent home game.
Hammarby fans invaded a closed section of a stand above away supporters during their match against GAIS on September 19 and began throwing objects at rival fans below.
The game was delayed for almost an hour before restarting. Hammarby went on to win 3-1.
"The attack was well-planned and posed a significant risk to the lives and health of others," the disciplinary committee of the Swedish FA said in a statement.
"This was caused by non-functioning security, and this is something the committee takes a very serious view of," the statement added.
The committee rejected an appeal from GAIS that the game should not have restarted and that they should be awarded a 3-0 victory.

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has condemned the shameful actions carried out by a small group of the club's fans during the Revierderby on Saturday.
Despite Dortmund beating local rivals Schalke 3-1, the victory was overshadowed by the behaviour of some fans that launched smoke bombs, flares and missiles which caused delays.
Klopp, 46, took to a post-match press conference to condemn the display his side's supporters had shown.
"In a moment you are ashamed of these images," he said to RuhrNachrichten.
Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfieler acknowledged that the match had been an emotional and fiery affair but that the aggressive behaviour from fans was not warranted.
"I'm not afraid of our fans," he said after the game.
"Emotions belong to the derby but the aggression has got to go. I call on our fans to behave next time."

England : Nine arrested after football violence - 24/10/2013
Source : http://www.tamworthherald.co.uk
A TOTAL of nine arrests have now been made as detectives continue their investigations into the violence which flared during Atherstone Town's FA Cup clash with Barrow almost two weeks ago. The men, most of whom are in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following the ugly scenes at half-time during the match. All have been bailed and have been told to stay away from football matches while the inquiry continues. One of the suspects voluntarily handed himself into police. Despite the arrests, investigations are still continuing into the violence which broke out during half-time at the game on Saturday, October 13, and brought shame to the town. Sgt Roger Fildes of Atherstone Police said: "We have had a very good response to our request for photographs from the public who were at the game and our CID team in Nuneaton are continuing with their investigations." Officials from Atherstone FC were quick to distance themselves away from the trouble and blamed 'so-called' fans, not genuine Adders supporters and Atherstone chairman Rob Weale issued a personal apology on the club's website to Barrow fans.

Fears over supporter safety at the World Cup after fans shot in Brazil
Four football fans in Brazil have been shot in the latest attack on supporters ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
The incident happened before a second division match in Natal, north-eastern Brazil, on Saturday.
Police claimed two fans were hit in their feet and two in their legs during a clash between America and Ceara.
Two of the fans remained hospitalised, but their lives are not thought to be at risk.
It is understood that Ceara fans driving by the stadium fired at the America fans waiting outside.
The teams’ supporters also confronted each other inside the stadium and police had to intervene with pepper spray and tear gas.
Around 20 people were arrested but the clashes will add to concerns over fan safety in next summer’s tournament.

Sweden : Örebro SK - GAIS - 27/10/2013

Brawling football fan run over by police car
The incident occurred in Örebro, central Sweden, when fans of the local club and rivals GAIS started fighting with each other. It's estimated that up to 40 supporters were brawling and police were quickly on the scene.
In an attempt to break up the fight a police officer moved his vehicle and in the process ran over a supporter.
"How injured he is I can't really say just now. But we did speak to him which suggests that he is not so badly hurt," said Örebro head of communications Mats Nylén to local paper NA.se.
It's understood that the man was lying injured on the ground after being beaten and kicked when the police ran him over
"Certainly it was a difficult situation, it was dark and 30 to 40 people were fighting with each other," added Nylén who said he was unaware if the fight was prearranged as is often the case with football hooligans.
Police have video footage of the brawl which they hope will shed light on the incident. Nylén said that it is standard police practice to record football hooliganism in order to identify regular offenders.
"There are several videos so hopefully we can see the sequence of events which will help the prosecutor in his judgement," Nylén said to the TT news agency.
"The prosecutor must determine whether we have done anything wrong," he added.

Porto and Sporting hooligans clash to leave 48 injured
• Hundred fans involved in pre-match disturbances • Portuguese police wielding batons break up fights
Forty-eight people were injured as fans clashed outside the Dragão stadium before Sunday's Portuguese Premier League game between Porto and Sporting Lisbon, police said on Monday.
About one hundred fans were involved in the pre-match disturbances and were taken to a police station, but then released.
"In a very cohesive and organised way, the group provoked the violence and forced their entry near the stadium's gate 25," the police said in a statement.
TV footage showed the problems started when a group of people, mostly dressed in black and not wearing any club gear, arrived in formation at the premises outside the Dragão stadium chanting and provoking Porto fans standing around.
Fighting broke out and the situation only calmed down after police intervened using batons.
Some people had to be treated in hospital but there were no reports of serious injuries.
"The individuals who caused the violence were intercepted inside the stadium, after which they were taken to the police department in order to be identified and inquired about the circumstances in which they committed those actions," police said.

Far-right hooligans attack Turkish centre in Austria
Around 30 far-right Austrian football hooligans from a banned extremist supporters' club attacked a Turkish cultural centre in Vienna at the weekend, police said Monday.
Nine people were arrested, seven of whom were known to the police, after the attack Sunday. A member of a communist organisation was assaulted outside, while one of the attackers was also hurt.
According to Green MP Alev Korun, witnesses saw the attackers doing Hitler salutes and shouting slogans such as "Foreigners Out" and "Heil Hitler" in a nearby park before the incident.
The group tried to force their way into the cultural centre but were beaten back by people inside, police said. They then returned with pieces of wood and bottles before fleeing.
All were members of "Unsterblich" (Immortal), a group of supporters of top-flight football team Austria Vienna that was banned by the team in January for racist chants and Hitler salutes.

France : Police ban Lyon fans from St. Etienne derby - 29/10/2013
Source : http://au.sports.yahoo.com
Police authorities announced on Monday that Lyon fans will be banned from attending their club's Ligue 1 derby clash at Saint-Etienne on November 10.
The bitter fan rivalry has flared into a series of violent incidents at past matches, notably between the two club's sections of ultra supporters.
According to a decision taken on October 22, all fans appearing to be Lyon supporters will be limited from approaching the surrounding areas close to Saint-Etienne's Geoffroy-Guichard stadium.
The seven-time champions have vowed to appeal the ruling which is set to prevent away fans from attending the tie for the first time since the first derby between the clubs in 1952.

Turquie : Galatasaray gets win for Besiktas fans' violence - 22/10/2013
Source : http://www.miamiherald.com
Turkish champion Galatasaray has been awarded a 3-0 win after rival Besiktas fans invaded the pitch and forced a league match to be abandoned.
The Turkish Football Federation says its executive board took a majority decision to give Galatasaray victory by default.
Galatasaray led 2-1 in stoppage time during the Istanbul derby match on Sept. 22 when trouble flared. Besiktas fans invaded the Ataturk Olympic Stadium field and clashed with police before play was stopped.
Besiktas was ordered to play four league matches in an empty stadium.
