Newcastle - Sunderland - 31/10/2010

Seven arrested ahead of Tyne-Wear derby

SEVEN people were arrested ahead of the derby match between Newcastle and Sunderland.

They were arrested by Northumbria Police early on Sunday morning for failing to comply with football banning orders.

Newcastle United eventually ran out 5-1 winners as they crushed the Wearsiders, who also had Titus Bramble sent off.

Ch Supt Graham Smith, Newcastle area commander, said: "The overwhelming majority of football fans are well-behaved and want nothing more than to attend games free from the fear of violence or disorder.

"These arrests just go to show that we simply won't tolerate anyone intent on causing trouble and are taking firm action against them, they should act as a warning to anyone planning to come to the game to cause trouble that we will target them.

"We have been working closely with both clubs and Newcastle City Council in planning for this fixture and I am confident that our plans will enable fans to enjoy the match."

Massive police influx quells derby day trouble

FEARS of derby day disorder were quelled as an army of police officers stopped violence spilling onto the streets of Tyneside.

A huge operation was launched to prevent city centre violence before and after Newcastle United’s 5-1 thrashing of Sunderland yesterday at St James’ Park.

In total 21 people were arrested by an army of 700 officers on the streets along with 30 mounted police in an attempt to keep the peace.

Seven people were arrested before the game for breaching football banning orders. A further 12 fans – out of a crowd of almost 52,000 – were detained at the ground and two on Clayton Street for offences including criminal damage and streaking.

Some streets in the city centre were closed by police as they patrolled bars in a bid to prevent drink-fuelled violence erupting between rival fans.

Chief Supt Graham Smith, Newcastle Area Commander, said: “The vast majority of fans behaved well, 12 arrests at the ground out of a crowd that size is low and I would like to thank all the stewards involved for their assistance.

“I would also like to thank the supporters of both Newcastle and Sunderland. The vast majority were well behaved and cheered on their respective teams in the right manner.”

Home supporters left the grounds in high spirits after a hat-trick from captain Kevin Nolan and two goals from Shola Ameobi. Former Newcastle defender Titus Bramble was sent off in the first derby since February 2009.

For one fan the derby result was one of the happiest days of his life. Daniel Squires, 28, a car salesman from Gosforth, Newcastle, said: “After the game I rang my wife and told her that it was the best day of my life.

“She said, ‘What about our wedding day?’ I said that it wasn’t far from it.”

Steve Wraith, from the Players Inc magazine, said: “It was a fantastic performance – absolutely brilliant. It was up there for Newcastle fans with the greats.

“The 50,000-odd Newcastle fans will always remember that game.”

Sunderland fans were dejected as they trooped to Central Station. Paul Jones, 35, a Nissan employee from Sunderland, said: “It was a terrible result. I thought the Sunderland players were spineless.”

Actress hit

THE show went on last night for an actress who was hit in the face by a brick during Tyne-Wear derby clash.

The unnamed woman, a member of the Circus of Horrors touring theatre company, was hit as she walked along Westgate Road yesterday afternoon.

But in true showbiz style, the actress refused to let a trip to hospital spoil her performance.

The actress, who was in Newcastle for a special Halloween show at the Journal Tyne Theatre last night, was “caught in the cross fire” as fans clashed.

After hospital treatment she made it back in time for the show.

Chesterfield FC - Shrewsbury Town - 24/10/2010

Source: local press (thanks to the sender)

Seven arrests at Chesterfield FC match

SEVEN people were arrested after trouble broke out at Saturday’s match between Chesterfield and Shrewsbury.

Police said that just after the second half kicked off, when Chesterfield had scored their fourth goal, a large number of Shrewsbury supporters left their seats and ran to the edge of the pitch goading Chesterfield supporters.

A lot of Chesterfield supporters then left their seats and ran to the corner of the East Stand and North Stand.

During this time a Chesterfield supporter is said to have ran from the halfway line of the East Stand toward the goal mouth at the North Stand where the away supporters were sited.

A police spokesman said: “He was apprehended by stewards and subsequently arrested. Stewards and police officers inside the ground had to separate the two groups and eventually got them back to their seats.”

Prior to the final whistle officers were located near the away supporters coaches and monitored Chesterfield and Shrewsbury fans as they left the East and North stands as a further confrontation was expected.

Police said a large number of Chesterfield supporters were prevented from approaching the away stand by officers but four Spireites supporters managed to leave the ground through the away stand gates just as a group of Shrewsbury fans were leaving.

“The Chesterfield group began to goad and gesture towards the Shrewsbury supporters but they did not retaliate until one of the Chesterfield fans pushed a Shrewsbury fan and a fight broke out,” a police spokesman said.

A 36-year-old man from Staveley and a 36-year-old man from Grassmoor were arrested for public order offences. They have been questioned and released on police bail while further enquiries continue.

A 62-year-old man from Monk Moor, Shrewsbury, two 44-year-old men from Shrewsbury and a 31-year-old man from Shrewsbury were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been questioned and released on police bail.

A 45-year-old man from Brimington received hospital treatment after being kicked in the head. He was assaulted on the car park of the stadium on Sheffield Road shortly after the match.

The man arrested for pitch invasion is a 34-year-old Chesterfield man, who received a police caution for the offence.

34 arrested on fringes of far-right protest in Amsterdam

Dutch police on Saturday arrested 34 people, including five English citizens, as they intercepted groups of "anti-fascists" seeking to confront far-right sympathisers of anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders.

Eighteen, including the five English citizens, were arrested for not carrying valid identification, fined 60 euros (84 dollars) and freed, police spokesman Rob van der Veen told AFP.

"Fourteen were arrested for public violence, remain in custody, and will appear in court soon," he said, refusing to divulge the nature of their crimes.

Most of those arrested had been trying to make their way towards a gathering of about 50 supporters of the far-right English Defence League.

They were holding a legal, pro-Wilders picket near the Sloterdijk train station northwest of the Dutch capital.

Police also stopped and rerouted a metro with dozens of "football hooligans" on their way to the picketing venue, "to prevent a confrontation" between the two groups, a statement said.

The EDL picket was organised to show support for Wilders, who is being prosecuted in the Netherlands for inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims.

Wilders, who has distanced himself from the demonstration, risks up to a year in jail or a 7,600-euro fine for comments made in his campaign to "stop the Islamisation of the Netherlands".

Permission was given for the EDL picket to be held in an isolated area near Sloterdijk, rather than the city centre where it would have been harder to manage, after police received information that English and Dutch football hooligans were planning to use the occasion for "hard confrontation".

A website for Ajax supporters had urged football fans to confront the EDL on Saturday "because we don't tolerate racism and fascism in our city"

Several "anti-fascist" groupings held counter-pickets around Amsterdam, including a peaceful gathering on a central square of about 1,000 supporters of the Platform Against Xenophobia.

Van der Veen said one person was apprehended for carrying pepper spray, which is illegal, and another for "offensive" utterances. Both received summonses to appear in court.

Amsterdam police, which had turned out in numbers for Saturday's demonstrations, said there were "no major incidents".

Newport hooligan in court after Crawley Town fight - 27/10/2010

Source : thisissussex.co.uk

A HOOLIGAN who started crowd trouble at a Crawley Town game has been banned from all football matches for the next three years.

Newport County fan Michael Nixey started a fight with Reds fans before invading the pitch at the league clash on October 16.

The 41-year-old appeared before Crawley Magistrates' Court last Thursday, when he was fined and given the banning order.

Nixey, of Newport, pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct provoking unlawful violence and trespassing on the playing area at a football match.

The court heard he was part of a group of County fans who had managed to get into a home supporters' area during the game at the Broadfield Stadium, which the away team won 3-2.

When Newport scored, the group celebrated and a fight broke out.

Nixey was spotted on CCTV by police "exchanging punches with other men".

The Newport fans were moved to another area of the ground, with their own fans, but trouble flared again and Nixey ran on to the pitch.

Richard Lynn, prosecuting, said: "The defendant climbed over a barrier and went on the pitch where he was arrested and detained.

"In interview, speaking about the fight, he admitted words had been exchanged and accepted that he had thrown a few punches, but said he couldn't remember if he had connected with anyone.

"He said he had been hit in return and left swollen above his right eyebrow.

"His team had scored and he was celebrating."

Tanya Price, defending, said Nixey, who works in Wales as a gardener, was "extremely embarrassed" at his "stupidity" on the day.

Miss Price said: "Emotions were running high and clearly inappropriate behaviour ensued.

"He has a three-year-old and another child on the way. This is not the sort of behaviour he is accustomed to. This is extremely out of character."

Nixey's three-year banning order means he is banned from all football grounds in England and Wales.

He was also ordered to pay £200 costs and warned he may be forced to surrender his passport before international games to stop him leaving the country.

St Patrick's Athletic - Shamrock Rovers - Cup - 17/10/2010

Source : RTE.ie

Clubs to investigate post-match incidents

St Patrick's Athletic, Shamrock Rovers and the FAI are to investigate the incidents that occured after last night's FAI Ford Cup semi-final between the two sides at Richmond Park.

Pat's were beaten 1-0 at Richmond Park and after the game, a number of supporters of both clubs invaded the pitch.

Gardaí and security staff were forced to intervene as fans engaged in taunting and aggressive behaviour.

The FAI said: 'The FAI will be speaking with both clubs, as well as Gardaí and the match delegate.'

St Pat's and Rovers have both pledged to take immediate action against any fans found to be involved in the post-match crowd trouble.

A statement by St Pat's said they are committed to ensuring that Richmond Park remains a place where fans can enjoy football in a 'safe, secure and friendly environment'.

A statement on the club website www.stpatsfc.com said: 'St Patrick's Athletic have already committed to taking action against any supporters found to be involved in the disturbances.

'St Patrick's Athletic is committed to ensuring that Richmond Park is a place where people can enjoy football in a safe, secure and friendly environment.

'A full review of the incidents that occurred at the end of last night's match is already underway at the club.

'Strong and immediate action will be taken by St Patrick's Athletic against any home supporters found to be involved in crowd disturbances of any kind on the night.'

Shamrock Rovers chairman Jonathan Roche vowed to ban any Rovers supporters that were involved in trouble after the final whistle.

'We deal with people when we can, they are banned. There was a big security operation here (at Richmond Park) and on Sunday as well in Tallaght. We spend a lot of money, we don't want to waste money doing that kind of stuff so we will deal with it,' he insisted.

'People have just ruined it for themselves. I don't think, hopefully, it's going to have a massive impact on people that were here. The majority of people enjoyed themselves.'

An FAI statement added: 'Given that the semi-final and subsequent replay between St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers were attended by almost 10,000 people, it is disappointing that the actions of a tiny minority have distracted from what were two enjoyable occasions.'

Aston Villa - Birmingham City - 31/10/2010

Source : birminghammail.net

Seven fans arrested after post-match clash

Seven football fans were arrested after violent disorder broke out at a derby clash today.

The supporters had turned out to see Aston Villa take on Birmingham City at Villa Park.

One was arrested before the game and has been charged with a public order offence, West Midlands Police said.

He will appear before magistrates in Birmingham on November 9.

The six others were arrested during and after the match for offences including assault, violent disorder, public order and being drunk in a public place.

One of the fans was bailed and the others were helping police with their inquiries, a spokeswoman said.

The seven included fans of each of the West Midlands sides.

Minor skirmishes involving others were dealt with by police at the scene.

Officers were trawling through CCTV this afternoon to find evidence they could use to potentially impose banning orders on unruly fans.

Police had urged supporters beforehand to approach the event "in the spirit of friendly rivalry".

Chief Superintendent Surjeet Manku, match day commander, said: "Local derbies always add an extra element, not only to the game, but also to policing."

A larger number of officers than usual were deployed to police the match and to remain on duty into the evening, he said.

He warned that anyone arrested for football-related matters would be subject to applications for football banning orders which would prevent them from attending future fixtures.

Six men are currently awaiting sentencing following disorder before and after the Birmingham City versus Aston Villa fixture played at St Andrews in 2009.

Football banning orders are also set to be issued against the men in addition to lifetime bans from the club.

Port Vale - Crewe derby - 30/10/2010

Source : thisisstaffordshire.co.uk

TWO football fans were arrested as trouble broke out at Port Vale's derby match against Crewe Alexandra.

Seven Crewe supporters were also ejected from Vale Park in Burslem after clashing with stewards on Saturday.

Other disturbances included a coach being damaged and a car coming under siege from Vale fans.

But police paid tribute to the good behaviour of the "vast majority" of the 8,607 spectators watching Vale's 2-1 win.

Senior officers also praised the contribution of special constables on duty both inside and outside the ground.

The disorder came before, during and after a bad-tempered match which saw one red and six yellow cards handed out, along with two penalties.

One Crewe fan was arrested before the match for possession of a Class A drug.

And a Vale supporter was detained by police after the game as a car containing a family of Alex followers was surrounded in traffic in Hamil Road.

But police said no arrests were made after a Crewe coach had its windows smashed by the team's own fans.

Saturday's gate included around 1,300 Crewe supporters.

Secretary Angela Bloor, aged 32, from Burslem, who was in the crowd, said: "I didn't see any trouble, but it was quite intimidating. It was nice to see so many police officers on duty.

"I occasionally bring my children to the game, but I didn't want to this time in case there was any trouble."

Another Vale fan, who asked not be named, said: "The trouble in the Hamil Road away stand seemed to start when a Crewe fan threw a plastic bottle of milk over a steward."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "The vast majority of fans were good-humoured and well-behaved and, as ever, the special constables played an invaluable role for us.

"The flashpoints were a Crewe coach which had a window smashed by Crewe fans, Crewe fans being ejected from the ground by stewards and Vale fans surrounding a car. We made two arrests."

Last season's derby at Vale Park was also marred by ugly scenes, when home fans damaged coaches containing Crewe supporters.

The trouble last time meant Staffordshire Police had to draft in extra officers.

Source: pressonline.rs

17 year old FC Rad fan B.G. was beaten and stabbed by police just before the Sunday game of Serbian championship between FC Rad and FC Vojvodina. As boy has told the reporters, he and his 14 friends were approaching the stadium when they were stopped by the police and told that they can't go to stadium in a large group. Police officers let the fans go 2 by 2 and when B.G. realized they will be late for the game told the officers they could let them go. At this point officers sent the boy away and he took the bus to the stadium and at the moment he took off the bus, the same police officers intercepted him and put him in the police van.
He was beaten by the police officers and in one moment a police officer took out the knife and cut him on several places over the body and stubbed him in thigh. Afterwards, not knowing what to do, police officers threw the boy out at the nearby cemetery.
The boy was admitted to hospital Sunday afternoon with multiple injuries all over his body, stab wound in his left thigh and hematoma on his back

Some 140 detained as Zenit lose to Spartak in Moscow

Police detained 136 fans in Moscow as Spartak defeated visitors Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday.

The match was due to take place in August but was postponed as the city was gripped by a toxic cloud of smog caused by nearby wildfires.

The game, attended by 30,000 fans, including 4,000 from Russia’s northern capital, saw a 1-0 win for Spartak courtesy of a last minute penalty. The defeat was the first league leaders Zenit have suffered all season.

Spartak Moscow manager and Zenit star Igor Densiov also clashed after the match and had to be dragged apart. A number of other scuffles among players and training staff also broke out.

Scotland : St Johnstone - Celtic - 30/10/2010

Source : BBC Sport

St Johnstone probe crowd racism claims

St Johnstone are looking into claims that Celtic players were subjected to "racist noises" during Saturday's league match at McDiarmid Park.

Celtic's 3-0 victory came on a day when both teams showed their support for the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.

A Saints statement said that "an extremely small minority" of fans "may have been responsible for making racist noises towards certain Celtic players".

"St Johnstone FC will conduct a thorough investigation."

The statement on the Perth club's website continued: "We will consult both the police and our stewarding suppliers, G4S.

"Additionally, we are appealing to fair-minded Saints fans, who make up the overwhelming majority of our support, to let us know if they are able to identify the individuals who may have been responsible.

"Should we be able to identify any perpetrators, the most stringent action will be considered."
