Olympiakos fans clash with police at Malmo airport
Swedish police say Olympiakos fans scuffled with police and security guards upon arrival at Malmo Airport ahead of a Champions League match against Malmo FF on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Patric Fors said the trouble started when one of the Greek supporters was arrested for shoplifting at the airport.
Fifteen other supporters tried to set him free, clashing with police and security guards.
Fors said two guards were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
He said only the 25-year-old Greek suspected of shoplifting was arrested. The other fans were allowed to board buses to the stadium for the Group A match.

Arsenal victory soured after Galatasaray fans hurl flares on to pitch
Riot police were ordered into position in front of the Galatasaray fans after flares were hurled on to the pitch in the first half of Wednesday night’s Champions League tie against Arsenal.
Several flares were thrown on to the Emirates Stadium turf after the defender Felipe Melo did a two-footed tackle on Alexis Sánchez in the 36th minute. Arsenal led 2-0 at the time through two goals from Danny Welbeck.
The game was briefly disrupted as the Galatasaray captain, Wesley Sneijder, sought to diffuse the tension by jogging over to the visiting supporters and appealing for calm.
The goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, collected the flares and dropped them on the sidelines, at which point helmeted riot police and stewards filed along by the advertising hoardings.
Firecrackers had also been let off by Galatasaray’s travelling contingent, who were stunned into silence when Sánchez fired Arsenal into a 3-0 lead with four minutes of the half remaining.
The Metropolitan police confirmed there had been six arrests as part of their operation for the Group D match in north London: two were for entering the ground with flares.
“We are aware of a number of flares being ignited and thrown on to the pitch at the Emirates stadium,” a police spokesperson said. “There were also some flares thrown near to the Tollington Arms on Hornsey Road.
“Police will be reviewing CCTV footage from inside the stadium and of the surrounding streets.”

Two football fans given banning orders for disturbance before Celtic match with Dons - 02/10/2014
Source : http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk
TWO football fans have been given one-year banning orders following a large-scale disturbance before a Celtic match with Aberdeen FC.
Nicholas Diplacito and Mark Glancy, were involved in behaving in a threatening manner towards police officers and struggling with police officers who were attempting to bring the protest march in the Gallowgate area of Glasgow under control.
The disturbance took place before Aberdeen FC’s 4-3 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead on March 16, 2013.
As well as both having a one-year Football Banning Order imposed, Diplacito was ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work and Glancy fined a total of £630, at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
Speaking following sentencing Stephen Ferguson, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the West of Scotland, said: “These men were part of a disorderly crowd and seemed intent on causing trouble, such shameful behaviour will not be tolerated.
“Police officers carrying out their important role in maintaining public order should not be subjected to assault and abuse or hindered and obstructed and we will continue to do all in our power to bring those who perpetrate such crimes to justice.”

Another Russian football club gets penalties for fans' poor behaviour - 01/10/2014
Source : http://en.itar-tass.com
During Spartak’s away match in St. Petersburg the Moscow club’s fans delivered intimidating and race-hatred statements, particularly in regard to Zenit’s Brazilian forward Hulk, and used fireworks
Russia Football Union’s (RFU) disciplinary committee imposed a set of sanctions against Spartak Moscow football club citing their fans’ poor behavior at a match last week against Zenit St. Petersburg FC, Artur Grigoryants, the head of the committee, said on Wednesday. During Spartak’s away match in St. Petersburg the Moscow club’s fans delivered intimidating and race-hatred statements, particularly in regard to Zenit’s Brazilian forward Hulk, and used fireworks.
Grigoryants said the club was fined 450,000 rubles (over $11,370). The sum includes 50,000 rubles fine for abusive language, 100,000 rubles - for using of fireworks and flares, 200,000 rubles - for throwing flares and fireworks into area adjacent to the playing field and 100,000 rubles - for actions aimed at hatred instigation (burning of scarves). Besides the finical penalties Spartak Moscow FC was also ordered to play its next away match, which will be played against Ural FC, with empty fans stands. A series of penalties hit Russian football clubs during this season’s Russian championship with the prevailing number of fines imposed for poor behavior of clubs’ fans. One of the cases in the chain of penalties might seem strange but it is true as Lokomotiv Moscow FC was fined on Wednesday 5,000 rubles ($126) because a stray dog ran out in the pitch during the club’s home match against Amkar Perm FC. Fans' behavior during football matches in Russia was in particular focus in May after one of football players suffered a concussion at the hands of fans during the match time. Dozens of Zenit FC fans rushed to the pitch of the Petrovsky Stadium in St. Petersburg on the 87th minute of the match on May 11 attacking players as Zenit was losing 2-4. One of the fans punched in the head Dynamo Moscow FC captain Vladimir Granat, who was later hospitalized and diagnosed with concussion. Zenit was fined afterwards one million rubles ($25,270), which included the fine of 700,000 rubles for the club’s failure to provide security during the match and 300,000 rubles fine for flares used by the club’s fans. Security and fans behavior during football matches is under a close attention of the Russian football authorities also because the country is in full swing preparations for hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

CSKA hit with stadium closures - 03/10/2014
Source : http://en.itar-tass.com
Manchester City’s Champions League match at CSKA Moscow on October 21 will be played behind closed doors after the Russian club were punished for the bad behaviour of some of their fans in Italy a fortnight ago.
CSKA have been fined and ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors by UEFA, and they have also been banned from selling tickets to fans for the return match at the Etihad Stadium on November 5.
The sanctions follow their 5-1 loss at Roma last month, which led to CSKA being charged with racist behaviour by European football’s governing body for the third time in a year.
UEFA say CSKA's fans were found guilty of a series of offences including "racist behaviour of supporters, crowd disturbance, setting off/throwing of fireworks and missiles" during the match on 17 September.
And a statement read: “CSKA Moscow has been ordered to play its next three UEFA competition matches as host club behind closed doors.
“The Russian team has also been fined 200,000 euros.
"In addition, CSKA Moscow is banned from selling tickets to its supporters for the next UEFA Champions League 2014/2015 group stage competition matches which the club will play as the visiting team.
“The European governing body has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and discrimination on the field and in the stands.
"All forms of racist behaviour are considered serious offences against the disciplinary regulations and are punished with the most severe sanctions."
CSKA have already been punished twice over incidents of racism by UEFA in the past year.
Last year's Champions League clash against City at the Khimki Arena was marred by racist chanting aimed at City midfielder Yaya Toure.
CSKA were hit with a partial stadium closure but a repeat offence led to Tuesday's game against Bayern Munich being played behind closed doors.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "My personal thinking is football should always be with fans. I don't think it is good to play in an empty stadium, not good for anyone.
"I understand a local team have a little (problem) with their fans but all the people deserve to go to the stadium. I don't know what will happen."
CSKA’s press spokesman Sergei Aksenov said: “Of course we are really upset with the decision.
"Thanks to a few people, the festival of football that is the Champions League, has been turned into a series of ghost matches, as these matches without supporters are already being called.
“It's all very sad and upsetting.
"We need to wait to hear the reasoning for their decision. Only then will it become clear if the punishment is fair and whether we may try to launch an appeal."

Sport halted as Greece mourns fan's death - 05/10/2014
Source : http://www.usatoday.com/
PIRAEUS, Greece (AP) — There are no football matches being played in Greece this weekend. Basketball, swimming, handball and volleyball events have also been halted by government order.
The country is mourning the death of Costas Katsoulis, a 46-year-old fan of third-division football club Ethnikos, who was beaten and fatally injured at a Sept. 14 game against local team Irodotos on Crete.
His death restarted a debate on violence, and widely perceived corruption in professional Greek sport.
Witnesses to the Crete attack said a small group of youths used brass knuckles and motorcycle gloves to inflict Katsoulis' severe head injuries. He died at a military hospital in Athens on Monday.
Three men have been jailed awaiting trial for murder, while a fourth suspect arrested after the attack was released from custody.
"The death of Costas Katsoulis should be the last in the long list of victims of the actions of criminals, psychopaths and the mindless people," said Yiannis Andrianos, a deputy minister for sport, who intervened to have Katsoulis flown to Athens for treatment.
"These people even introduce violence to third-division football, handball games, women's volleyball matches, and even events involving children's teams."
Over the past decade, Greece has brought in tough anti-hooliganism laws, introducing mandatory jail time and lengthy match bans for offenders convicted for stadium violence, as well as restrictions on traveling fans.
But domestic football continues to operate in a toxic atmosphere.
Major clubs still publicly accuse each other of rigging matches, team security staff are often implicated in fan violence, and supporters' clubs are frequently targeted in arson attacks.
Maintaining security is complicated by the fact that major clubs have teams in multiple sports — allowing rival fans to pick low-policed events for prearranged clashes — while club bosses are often leading businessmen with competing interests.
This week, police said a far-left Greek militant group was planning to assassinate the chairman of the country's largest football club, Olympiakos, along with other prominent industrialists.
Greece's Football Association this season turned to an outsider, former Scottish referee Hugh Dallas, to oversee the appointments of Greek match officials.
But critics of the government and sporting authorities say bolder changes are needed to clean up the sport.
"We agree that respect should be shown for the fan who was killed, but suspending the leagues alone will not solve the problem," Julio Synadinos, of the Department of Sport and Physical Education at the left-wing opposition Syriza party, told The Associated Press.
"Our first priority would be to investigate the financial and other relationships major clubs have with groups of organized supporters — that is the umbilical cord of this problem."
Syriza, which is mounting a strong challenge to the conservative coalition government, also backs education reforms that would teach children about the principles of competitive sport.
"Unfortunately in Greece, the prevailing attitude that starts from a young age is that supporters of a different team are seen as enemies," Synadinos said. "We need preventive measures: To tell kids what sport really is about."
Katsoulis was buried this week at his Cretan hometown of Platanias. Club fans and officials gathered at a church near Athens on Saturday to attend a memorial service.

UEFA fine Partizan Belgrade £30,000 over anti-Semitic banner at Tottenham game - 06/10/2014
Source : http://www.lequipe.fr
UEFA has ordered Partizan Belgrade to play their next Europa League home game with a partial closure of their stadium after an anti-Semitic banner was displayed in their fixture against Tottenham. The sign, based on the Only Fools and Horses logo, read 'Only Jews and Pussies' and was branded as unacceptable by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino after the game on September 18. UEFA has acted and told Partizan that their next fixture against Besiktas will be played with the 'K' section of their stadium shut. The club have also been fined 40,000 euros.
'The fight against racism is a high priority for UEFA,' said a statement. 'The European governing body has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and discrimination on the field and in the stands. All forms of racist behaviour are considered serious offences against the disciplinary regulations and are punished with the most severe sanctions. 'Following the entry into force of new disciplinary regulations in June 2013, the fight against racist conduct has been stepped up a level - resulting in stricter penalties to deter any such behaviour.'

England: Football banning orders for Wolves fans - 06/10/2014
Source : http://www.expressandstar.com
Four football fans have been banned from attending any matches in the country after they admitted taking part in disturbances following a Wolves game.
Stephen Brown, aged 43, Stephen Hackett, 48, Jack Harris, 20 and Ryan Boyd, 21, were all outside The Feathers pub when trouble flared after Wolves home game with Sheffield United on September 28 last year.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard the four Wolves supporters were among a large group of fans who gathered outside the pub following their team's 2-0 win.
A cordon of police was in position to keep them apart from a group of rival Sheffield United fans - which included a number of known hooligans - who had congregated in Molineux Street opposite the pub.
Mr Howard Searle, prosecuting, said Boyd was seen gesturing towards police with his arms raised when a flare became activated, inciting him to gesticulate even more furiously.
"Brown was engaging in a confrontation with his arms outstretched in an offensive manner," continued the prosecutor.
Hackett, who the court was told has 37 previous offences and had received a three year football banning order in March 2008, was seen towards the front of the group gesticulating and shouting, 'Come on, f**king come on. Bring it on'.
Mr Searle added that Harris, who was also spotted by officers outside the pub extending his arms to the side, was later filmed on CCTV at the scene of a second disturbance at the junction of the ring road and Stafford Road.
Defending unemployed Boyd, Miss Laura Hobson said the incident had taught him a 'salutary lesson'.
Brown's behaviour was said to be influenced by alcohol, while Ms Lara Akande told the court Harris, a leisure centre lifeguard, had attended Wolves games for 15 years and had not previously been in trouble.
Scaffolder Hackett, who represented himself at the hearing, offered no excuse for his behaviour.
Recorder Mr Martin Wasik, told the defendants: "This is not the worst case I have come across by any means, but there was still a significant degree of disorder."
Hackett, of Goodyear Avenue, Low Hill, Wolverhampton and Brown, of Martley Road, Oldbury, both admitted using threatening behaviour and were banned from attending football matches for four years. They were both fined £600.
Boyd, of Red Kite Close, Leegomery, Telford and Harris, of Lichfield Road, Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, both pleaded guilty to the same charge and were banned from attending football matches for three years.
Both men were also given a 12-month community order with supervision and 60 hours of unpaid work.
All four defendants were ordered to pay £100 costs and a £60 statutory surcharge.
