Violence ensues following Nice vs Bastia match after reserve goalkeeper enrages local ultras
Controversy ensued following the final whistle at the Allianz Riviera this evening as Bastia narrowly beat OGC Nice 1-0.
It has emerged that Jean Louis Leca, the SC Bastia reserve goalkeeper, pulled out a Corsican flag upon the final whistle and waved it tauntingly at a groups of OGC Nice ultras known as the Brigade Sud, a group that OGC Nice striker Alexy Bosetti has close ties with.
This flag was waved and this was then seen as an act of provocation by members from this section of the crowd who proceeded to storm the pitch in an attempt to confront Leca.
Whilst this was going on, Nice captain Didier Digard attempted to take the offending Corsican flag off Leca, presumably to stop any violence from occurring. This was largely to no avail and at least 4 fans have been arrested according to local sources.
What is clear is that OGC Nice will face a stadium ban, with the LFP taking a zero tolerance approach to this sort of barbary.

United against Salafism, right-wing scene surges in Germany - 18/10/2014
Source : http://www.dw.de
Violent hooligans, backed by right-wing extremists, have teamed up against a new enemy: Salafists. For months now, they have lashed out online - and now they're taking to the streets.
It began on Facebook, where anti-Islam football fans have been venting their anger in online forums for months now. But lately, in German cities, like Essen, Nuremberg, Mannheim, Frankfurt and Dortmund, hostile and extremely violent hooligans, usually at odds with each other, have united against a new enemy: Salafists - a radical and militant branch of Islam. Their initiative, currently known as Ho.Ge.Sa. - "Hooligans gegen Salafisten" ("Hooligans against Salafists") - has seen its profile repeatedly blocked by Facebook, but it always reappears under another name. It's here that the group is stoking the flames against the hard-line Salafist movement. Next stop: a demonstration planned for October 26 in front of the Cologne Cathedral. The current mood and the protests organized by Kurds across Europe are giving hooligans and right-wing sympathizers the chance to "apparently demonstrate against the Salafists, but really only to express their own Islamophobia," Olaf Sundermeyer, a journalist and author, told DW . "We are 'hooligans against Salafixxxx.' Together, we are strong," reads the group's Facebook page. They see themselves as "a movement that has brought together hooligans, ultras, soccer fans and ordinary citizens in a common fight against the worldwide 'Islamic State' terror campaign and the nationwide Salafist movement."
In Facebook posts and on banners at their demonstrations, they call their group the "resistance" against "the true enemies of our shared homeland." The latest protest in Dortmund drew around 400 people. "On 26.10.2014 in Cologne, we will significantly increase this number of participants," a moderator recently announced on the site. "Peaceful, unmasked and without rioting." 'Salafists are the greater evil' These slogans have actually served to bring together opposing hostile fan bases, who usually meet up before and after sports events to fight each other. Gunter A. Pilz, an expert on fan behavior from the Sport University in Hanover, calls this phenomenon "a temporary fighting alliance." However, he said that this coalition will only last as long as the common enemy: the Salafists. Sundermeyer, who points out that anti-Islam attitudes are widespread in the soccer fan scene, said there's a risk that extreme right-wing groups will be tolerated because the brutality of "Islamic State" militants in Syria and Iraq is proof to many that Salafists are the greater evil. In an interview with German public radio Deutschlandfunk, Sundermeyer said that "Hooligans against Salafists" is still a relatively small group, but stressed that it could attract more followers - even those with less radical viewpoints. Soccer, he said, is the ideal environment to radicallize and recruit young people to the extreme right-wing cause. Officially, though, the league has distanced itself from the right-wing extremist movement. Mobilizing apolitical hooligans and soccer fans But there's an obvious overlap with the neo-Nazi scene: Ho.Ge.Sa. is backed by Dominik Roeseler, a member of the right-wing Pro NRW party who sits on the Mönchengladbach city council. He plans to be at the demonstration in Cologne. Roeseler is considered to be quite extreme and is, like all right-wing party members, under observation by German security officials.
And there are further connections: At the protest in Dortmund, many shirts, jackets and banners were adorned with neo-Nazi symbols. The next day, a post on the Facebook group backtracked, saying that "unfortunately, we have found out that many neo-Nazis came to this event. We want to once again make it clear that we are not political." There doesn't even seem to be a consensus over Dominik Roeseler among the Ho.Ge.Sa. members. A few days ago, they announced that they had parted ways with him. But one thing is certain: the Cologne demonstration is being organized by right-wing political officials. Is Ho.Ge.Sa., therefore, an attempt by right-wing extremists to drum up new members from within the ranks of hooligans and extremist soccer fans? At the most recent count, the number of Ho.Ge.Sa. fans had risen to more than 16,000. "We continue to grow, the media can hound us all it wants. This time, you will not be able to stop us," wrote a follower on the site. Until recently, soccer associations, clubs and other fans had been able to keep the hooligans in check, said Sundermeyer. Now, however, faced with the threat posed by the Salafists, the cause of the right-wing extremists is seeing increasing support.

Partizan Belgrade - Red Star Belgrade - 18/10/2014
Smoke halts heavily policed Belgrade derby as Partizan beat Red Star
The Serbian derby between bitter Belgrade rivals Partizan and Red Star produced more fireworks on the terraces as fans lit flares four days after a Euro 2016 qualifier was abandoned at the same venue.
Play was twice held up for billowing smoke to clear at Partizan’s end after their fans set off the pyrotechnics in response to identical action by Red Star supporters shortly before kick-off. A superb free kick by the midfielder Nikola Drincic gave Partizan a 1-0 win to keep them in pole position on a maximum 24 points from eight games, four ahead of the champions, Red Star, who have played a game more.
Partizan had pleaded for sportsmanlike fan behaviour after Tuesday’s Euro 2016 Group I qualifier between Serbia and Albania was abandoned after a drone stunt triggered chaotic scenes on the pitch. A remote-controlled plane trailing a flag of “Greater Albania,” which includes Kosovo and parts of Serbia and other Balkan states, provoked a brawl between players and a pitch invasion by the home fans.
There was no such mayhem on Saturday as thousands of riot police were deployed in and around the stadium and helicopters patrolled above the densely populated residential area with few escape routes when fighting between rival fans breaks out.
Partizan fans also displayed a banner saying “Kosovo is Serbia”, defiantly referring to the country’s former southern province, which has an ethnic-Albanian majority and declared independence in 2008. Hostilities in the fixture with a history of serious crowd trouble were confined to customary verbal abuse by fans in a match which Red Star dominated in the first half.
Their 16-year-old striker Luka Jovic, the youngest player to feature in the derby, blasted the ball over the bar from five yards after a flowing move down the right. The teenager faltered again when he scuffed a shot into the hands of the Partizan goalkeeper, Milan Lukac, after a defence-splitting pass had put him through on goal.
Red Star’s keeper, Predrag Rajkovic, denied Petar Skuletic with a reflex save but was powerless to stop Drincic’s viciously swerving shot from fizzing into his top corner.
“Derby wins are the sweetest and we are clearly overjoyed to have come out on top in an action-packed encounter,” Partizan’s coach, Marko Nikolic, told said.
“We are in a commanding position now but there is a long way to go and the lads must get back to hard work after a night out to celebrate.“
Red Star’s Nenad Lalatovic rued missed chances. “We played well in the first half but not for the first time, we failed to score when we should have and got punished,” he said.
“We were on the back foot in the second half and Partizan ran out worthy winners, they are the more experienced outfit and took advantage after we ran out of steam.”

Rotherham United - Leeds United - 17/10/2014
Source : http://www.thestar.co.uk
Four arrests made at Yorkshire derby in Rotherham
The Rotherham and Leeds football derby - which saw hundreds of police on duty amid fears of disorder - took place ‘virtually without incident’, police have said.
More than 2,300 away fans descended on Rotherham for Friday night’s sold out game, which the South Yorkshire team won 2-1.
Four arrests were made and several section 27 notices - which give police the power to move people on from a particular area - were issued to fans causing trouble in Rotherham town centre.
The police operation involved more than 250 officers and staff.
Chief Insp Richard Butterworth, who led the operation, said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their co-operation. From the fans to the licensees, to our partners and the officers and staff, whose professionalism and careful planning ensured the game passed with very few incidents.
“With over 11,000 fans, nearly 2,300 of them being away fans, there was the potential for trouble to start. However, the majority of fans came for the love of the game and enjoyed watching a great match. We only had a small number causing trouble that were quickly dealt with.”

Fighting between Newcastle and Leicester fans after match
Well we finally won a game in season 2014/15 and while the relief was tangible, it does not gloss over the previous 10 months and beyond!
However, that is not why I write today, on full-time I waited to applaud the players off the pitch but my eye was taken toward the ‘Curva Nord’ and the start of some shenanigans!
leicester fansWhat seemed to start as Newcastle and Leicester fans taunting each other, ended up with missiles been thrown back and forth between the 2 sets of fans, with only a thin line of stewards in between, I watched for a few minutes as things escalated, a few fans broke the line and punches were swapped.
This went on for quite a while and the stewards without the support of the police struggled to keep the majority of fans apart, the aggression from both fans was something you don’t see very often these days.
Outside the ground the 2 sets of fans exited by adjacent gates with the Leicester fans gently pushed towards Barrack Road and their waiting coaches, but there was nothing to stop them heading into town if they so wished, this is all controlled again by stewards, some of them female. I am not being sexist at all but physically small female stewards are likely to get hurt if things happen.
Sure enough, what had started inside the stadium carried on underneath the Leazes End, sporadic outbreaks of fighting that threatened to turn into a mass brawl , one particularly nasty incident saw a young newcastle fan hit by a full plastic water bottle, this provoked the worst of the fighting that I saw, as a large Newcastle fan broke through the stewards and sought out the assailant before handing out retribution!
I am not sure if things worsened but I suspect they may have.
Why do I bother to write about this you may ask, well I was puzzled by the lack of police in attendance, it is all controlled by inexperienced part time stewards, who seem to be a mixture of students and retirees, probably getting paid peanuts?
It raises the question, is Mike Ashley having the home games policed on the cheap?
Will it be the same when we play Sunderland just before Christmas, if it is I would suspect more serious flare ups could occur.
I don’t know if matches are categorised by risk these days, but there is a bit of a history between Newcastle and Leicester, most will remember that game in 1992 but there has been other episodes, Newcastle fans were attacked at King Cross by a large mob of Leicester fans in 1999 (Leicester were playing Spurs in League Cup final), this was unprovoked and vicious, I know because I was there.
So I ask the question again, is policing of Newcastle games being done on the cheap in typically SD style?
You only have to have a modicum of knowledge to know yesterday’s game would be of higher risk than say a game against the likes of Fulham. The history and the large away following should be enough to ensure more police numbers would be required.
We don’t want to go back to the dark old days of the 80s, where sometimes going to a game was a toxic mix of an adrenalin rush, fear and intimidation, visiting places like Chelsea, Millwall, West Ham, Leeds etc, football in general and the stadia have evolved since then.
However, yesterday showed that those dark days have not been totally eradicated from our game, and the problems at full time yesterday suggest a problem needs addressing.

Preston North End - Port Vale - 18/10/2014
Source : http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk
Port Vale fan left with horrific injuries following Burslem town centre brawl
PORT Vale fan Charlie Holland has been left with horrific injuries following a 30-man brawl outside a town centre pub.
The Valiants supporter was among dozens of other fans at Ye Olde Crown pub, in Burslem, on Saturday night.
The 55-year-old had been to watch Port Vale take on Preston North End at Deepdale in the afternoon before stopping off at the Westport Road venue for a post-match pint.
But the delivery driver, from Chesterton, was left with severe cuts and bruises to his right eye after a brawl between two rival groups broke out outside the pub.
Charlie’s daughter, Rachael Holland, was working behind the bar at the pub when she heard the commotion.
The 22-year-old said: “I was behind the bar when I heard a load of glasses smash. At first I thought it was a fight inside the pub but when I looked all the customers were going outside. I spotted my dad going outside too so I went after him to make sure he didn’t get involved.
“When I got outside a boy swung a punch at me and hit me on the head. My dad saw him and just saw red, but this boy punched him in the face too.
“Dad was covering his eye and he stumbled to the floor. It was all over in minutes. It all happened from nowhere.”
Rachael, also from Chesterton, added: “Dad’s eye is really swollen and sore and he has been told that he can’t drive which is bad for him because that’s his job. He’s frustrated and upset and I don’t think he knows what to do with himself.
“The Crown is a big Vale pub and if that had happened on a day we had been playing at home then it could have been much, much worse.”
Charlie had to have a cut on his eye glued and fixed with sterile strips. He is now recovering at home.
David Dixon, aged 37, from Wolstanton, was in the pub when the fighting broke out. He said: “I came out of the toilet and there was nobody in the pub, then I heard some shouting outside.
“There was a group of about 30 lads standing across the road and goading people from the pub. I saw Charlie get hit and drop to the floor and I was standing right next to Rachael when she got hit.
“The police were there pretty quick, it all happened in minutes and I have no idea how it started.
“I’ve seen the odd fight in Burslem before but never anything like this. Charlie is a lovely guy and he’d do anything for anybody. I just can’t believe it happened – especially when Vale had been playing away.”
Staffordshire Police confirmed that an investigation has now been launched and CCTV footage is being reviewed.
