Newcastle United supporters tried to ambush Sunderland fans - 09/10/2010

Source : http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/8442832.Hooligans_in_smoke_bomb_confrontation/?ref=rss

A SMOKE bomb was thrown and a hooligan wielded an extendable baton during a confrontation between two sets of football fans at a station, a court heard yesterday.

Newcastle United supporters tried to ambush Sunderland fans as police were escorting them from a mainline train at Newcastle Central Station to the station’s underground Metro station in early August, last year.

The Sunderland contingent were returning from a pre-season friendly match against Hearts in Edinburgh, and the Newcastle group had been watching their club’s late kick-off at West Bromwich Albion on TV in city centre pubs.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that two trainloads of Sunderland fans had got the Metro home without incident, but there were fears about a third because some Sunderland fans were becoming aggressive and police closed the station doors to prevent Newcastle fans reaching them.

But Christopher Knox, prosecuting, said a group managed to get in through a subway entrance to the Metro station and staged a brief confrontation with their Sunderland rivals.

The court saw CCTV footage of the disturbance, including the smoke bomb going off and the yob wielding the baton.

Mr Knox said: “The reality is that the confrontation that took place was comparatively limited because the police intervened, although it was frightening.’’ One Metro worker said the supporters made a noise “like a roar’’ and she saw rival fans throwing punches at each other.

Mr Knox said in a separate incident on the main concourse there was violence between Sunderland fans and the police, with the fans alleging brutality and at least two being injured. He said 20 are to be tried next year.

He said the incident had not been planned between the two sets of fans, but the Newcastle fans were arrested later after CCTV footage was viewed.

Some were identified by police as risk supporters and some had previous football-related convictions although many of them were of good character.

Barristers, mitigating, for the 15 defendants, aged 18 to 51, said that nearly all were in work, most had played a limited role and had expected only to barrack the Sunderland supporters.

Some had gone along out of bravado and were sorry if people were frightened by the disturbance.

The 15 admitted violent disorder at a previous hearing, having previously denied a conspiracy charge.

After an all-day sitting, Judge Beatrice Bolton adjourned sentence until Friday, October 22, saying she wanted to carefully consider whether the defendants should be jailed.

In court yesterday were: Ian Chisholm, 47, of Westacres Crescent, Benwell, Newcastle; Lewis Comber, 18, of Elsdon Avenue, Seaton Delaval; Darren Fryer, 39, of Wallinfen, Leam Lane, Gateshead; Bryan Heron, 41, of Clayton Street West, Newcastle; Adam Ivison, 22, of Murrayfields, West Allotment, North Tyneside; Joseph Mattison, 51, of Acomb Street, Gateshead; Christopher Mustoe, 22, of John F Kennedy Estate, Washington; Adam Nesbit, 41, of Tribune Place, Gateshead; Noel Renton, 33, of Aydon Walk, West Denton; David Taylor, 21, of Sinclair Gardens, Seaton Delaval; Lee Wales, 23, of Prince Consort Road, Gateshead; Stephen Wales, 43, of Woodford, Gateshead; David Cook, 22, of Cromer Gardens, Gosforth; Scott Mooney, 18, of Valley Road, Blyth; and Daniel Routledge, 18, of Swarland Road, Blyth.

They were all bailed.

New arrests in hooligans brawl probe - 09/10/2010

Source : http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/New-arrests-hooligans-brawl-probe/article-2738552-detail/article.html

POLICE have arrested a further two suspected football hooligans in connection with a mass daytime brawl in the city centre – taking the total arrested to 13.

Numerous arrests have been made over the last two weeks as part of an investigation into organised violence in Exeter.

As reported in the Echo, those arrested are believed to have been involved in a gang fight between Exeter City fans and rival supporters which spilled out into the city's High Street.

Several of the suspects were traced after an appeal for information in the Echo.

Images of the men captured on CCTV were released by the force and sparked a number of calls to police.

The investigation — named Operation Goalpost and being led by Devon & Cornwall Police's football intelligence unit — follows an incident before Exeter's match against Huddersfield on Saturday, May 8, close to Next at about 2.10pm.

Police said they were seeking to obtain football banning orders for all the individuals, barring them from future matches for a minimum of three years.

The move to drive out football hooliganism from the city has been welcomed by Grecians supporters.

The chairman of Exeter City Supporters' Club, Roger Hamilton-Kendall, said football louts "tarnish" the reputation of Exeter City.

Six people were initially arrested after officers descended on addresses across the city. A further seven have now been arrested, but detectives say they may still make further arrests.

Inspector Steve Bickley, leading the operation, said: "This is our biggest operation of its kind for some time.

"Exeter supporters deemed to be a risk have been causing some problems in the last couple of seasons. We want to get control of the risk group and obtain banning orders in respect of them and bring their behaviour under control.

"Not only do these incidents of violent disorder affect football, they also affect the city centre."

Italy - Serbia - EURO2012Q - 12/10/2010

The kick off was delayed and 7 minutes into the game the match was suspended because Serbian fans didn't want to stop making trouble

The Euro 2012 qualifier between Italy and Serbia in Genoa was abandoned after Serbia fans continued to throw flares on to the pitch and light fireworks.
The kick-off had already been delayed by 45 minutes as police struggled to maintain order in the Marassi stadium.

When the game finally began, more flares and fireworks were thrown on to the field and the referee stopped the match after only seven minutes of play.
Italy and Serbia are in the same qualifying group as Northern Ireland.
While Northern Ireland drew 1-1 with the Faroe Islands earlier on Tuesday, Italy had been expected to extend their lead at the top of Group C with Serbia struggling for form.
But it soon became clear the travelling fans, who had already clashed with police earlier in the day, were in no mood to quietly watch their team.
However their actions are now likely to result in Italy being awarded a 3-0 victory by default.
Italian football federation general secretary Antonello Valentini told state TV RAI: "The referee felt that the players' security couldn't be assured.
"Now it's up to Uefa and their disciplinary procedures."
Ahead of the kick-off Serb fans threw flares and bangers at Italy supporters and on to the pitch, while three fans scaled a security screen and initially refused to get down.
The players finally took to the pitch but with police, firemen and stewards marshalling the area around the away fans, the start was postponed and the players sent back to the changing rooms.
Riot police were called for and stationed between Italy and Serbia fans.
Eventually the players came back out before the Serbian players went over to the away stand to ask fans to calm down.
That seemed to work and soon after the national anthems were played and Scottish referee Craig Thomson blew to get the match started.
However, the disorder returned and Thomson stopped the encounter after Serbian fans threw flares, one of which appeared to land close to Italy keeper Emiliano Viviano.
"It was impossible to play in that goal. I would have had to constantly turn around to avoid the fireworks. It wouldn't have been nice to get hit in the head," said Viviano.
Following discussions between the two countries' delegations and Uefa officials representatives, the Serbs went back to the dressing room.
Although no official announcement had been made at that point about the match being cancelled, the Italians then also left the pitch, applauding their fans as they did so, as the majority of supporters left the stadium.
Earlier in the day Serb fans attacked a police car before order was restored.
Italy, who endured a disastrous World Cup, went into the game with seven points from their opening three games whereas the Serbs were three points adrift after last week's shock home defeat by Estonia.

Italian police arrest 17 Serbian football fans after Genoa clashes - 13/10/2010

Source : FOCUS News Agency

The Italian police have arrested 17 Serbian fans after the clashes in Genoa which interrupted the Euro 2010 qualifier between Italy and Serbia on Tuesday. One of the detainees is 30-year-old Ivan Bogdanov who is believed to have been leading the football hooligans, Italian ANSA news agency reports.
An Italian fan who assaulted the Serbian fans was arrested too. Two police officers and 14 football fans were injured in the clashes.

Masked leader of crowd trouble at Italy-Serbia detained by police as government moves to apologise

Source : Goal

Italian police have detained 17 people after rioting during Italy's abandoned Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia on Tuesday.

Among those arrested was Ivan Bogdanov, the alleged ringleader of the Serbian 'fans'.

Police found the instigator of the crowd trouble in the boot of a bus that was set to take the Serbian fans back home again after the curtailed match. Bogdanov had his face covered by a mask during his misconduct, but his tattooed arms allowed the police to identify him.

The 29-year-old Bogdanov climbed onto a barrier separating fans from the pitch ahead of the game and sliced apart a mesh fence with a cutter before launching fireworks toward the Italian shot stopper Emiliano Viviano.

According to a report on B92, Bogdanov has a criminal record and has been arrested several times before for drug possession. He is also believed to be the leader of one of the most notorious Red Star Belgrade fan groups.

With the game quickly becoming something of a political incident, the Serbian government have already moved to apologise to the Italians for the events in Genoa.

Italy's foreign minister Franco Frattini revealed on Wednesday: "I have just received a phone call from Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who presented a formal apology from the government."

According to Frattini, Jeremic has also promised "to intensify the search for those responsible and to capture the criminals who will be punished to set an example."

England : Clitheroe - Bamber Bridge - 09/10/2010

Source : Lancashire Telegraph

Arrests after Lancashire non-league football derby

A HANDFUL of football fans were arrested at Blackburn Railway Station after going to watch a non-league Lancashire derby.

Supporters of Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End helped swell the crowd at the Clitheroe versus Bamber Bridge game on Saturday as their teams weren’t playing during the international break.

Police said the fixture passed off without incident, but they had to escort the travelling Bamber Bridge supporters on to the first train home.

With help from Network Rail, a team of Ribble Valley officers contained the 60 fans to one carriage where they were singing football songs.

They were joined at Langho by a support unit and made six arrests on the train for drink and disorder offences.

The six people were given £80 fixed penalty notices or cautions at Blackburn Railway Station.

The rest made their way back to Bamber Bridge.

Sergeant Graham Marshall said a ‘unique set of circumstances’ contributed to the policing strategy.

He said: “There were no Premiership or Championship matches on Saturday and it was very good weather.

“A lot of the Bamber Bridge residents have mixed alliances - there were some travelling fans that were Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End season-ticket holders who just decided to come and watch the match.

“Yes, they had consumed quite a lot of alcohol, but it was pretty good-natured during the game.

“That was spoilt by one person kicking a wing mirror off a car in Clitheroe town centre.

He was arrested and the fans as a whole were then escorted on to the next train and back to Bamber Bridge.”

Sgt Marshall said it was more ‘stag-do’ type behaviour than hooligan element and reassured Clitheroe residents who witnessed the large group passing through the town centre around 5pm.

“The crowd of 402 was unexpectedly higher than normal, mostly due to Preston and Blackburn fans out for the trip.

"Unfortunately, some had a bit too much too drink. But they responded well to firm policing.”

The match at Clitheroe’s Shawbridge ground finished 1-1 after a last-gasp equaliser from the visitors.

44 fans banned from Plymouth Argyle last year in tough stance on hooligans - 13/10/2010

Source : Plymouth Herald

PLYMOUTH Argyle banned 44 troublesome fans last year in an effort to crack down on home-grown hooligans, figures have revealed.

Police in Plymouth stressed the high number of bans came about because of their 'proactive stance' in targeting individuals attempting to disrupt games.

The Herald has recently reported on a number of banned fans who have received fines for breaching their orders.

Argyle banned 44 people for the season 2008-09 – the same number as Bolton Wanderers and Arsenal – while Exeter City banned eight.

In the same time period Torquay United issued no bans, while Leeds United topped the league with 162 banning orders.

Supt Dave Sumner, responsible for the policing of Home Park during home games, praised his officers who helped the club build cases against such individuals.

"We work very closely with Plymouth Argyle to prevent disorder on match days," he said. "This helps the public have an enjoyable experience free from trouble.

"Plymouth police are very proactive in following up intelligence and evidence about football hooligans.

"National headlines have said that hooliganism is on the rise, but in Plymouth we've seen an improvement in behaviour. We've had a reduction in disorder as a result of pursuing people involved in hooliganism and being given [banning] orders.

"Another result is we're now policing far fewer games than we used to three years ago.

"We used to deploy a lot of officers for certain games and now we're deploying far less and that means less cost to the club and therefore to the fans.

"When we do deploy police they're far more engaging with the crowd, more friendly and approachable."

He added that as Exeter and Plymouth Argyle were now in the same league, police in the two cities had begun a joint operation.

He said: "We will be seeking banning orders for anyone engaged in disorder at any of the season's games."

A spokesman for Plymouth Argyle agreed with the police comments, adding: "We have a tremendous working relationship with the police and there is a dedicated team of people whose job is to make sure Home Park is a safe and pleasant environment for fans to enjoy.

"Part of that is making sure that when something does happen we will take action against those people."

14 in court over football match violence - 13/10/2010

Source : Matlock Today

A total of 14 people have appeared in court charged with affray after violence broke out after a football match in Luton earlier this year.

Three youths and 11 adults were at Luton Magistrates' Court to face the charges which relate to clashes following a match between Luton Town and York City on May 3.

Fans invaded the pitch at Luton's Kenilworth Road ground after the club's 2-0 aggregate defeat in the Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final second leg.

Coins and other missiles were thrown at supporters, police and club stewards and the post-match violence spilled over to nearby Dunstable Road.

A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire Police said another eight adults received cautions for affray and five 15-year-olds, nine 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old all received final warnings.

Shortly after they were charged last week she said: "All those who received cautions or final warnings have entered into acceptable behaviour contracts until January 31 2011, with conditions not to go to any Luton Town football games and not to be involved in any disorder during this time."

A spokesman for Luton Magistrates' Court said all 11 adults were given conditional bail to appear in court again on December 14 for committal.

One of the youths, who cannot be named, was given a 10-month referral order and a three-year full banning order from matches. The other two youths are due back in court on November 1 following pre-sentence reports.

The judge said he would give his decision on Wednesday morning.

Belgrade: violence during gay pride parade was organised - 11/10/2010

Source : setimes.com + Gettyimages

Authorities said on Monday that hooligan attacks in Belgrade during Sunday's Gay Pride Parade were organised and politically inspired. Police Director Milorad Veljovic said one of the main masterminds appears to have been Mladen Obradovic, leader of the ultranationalist group Obraz. Police have detained him and have a list of suspected riot organisers. Justice Minister Snezana Malovic concurs that the violence was orchestrated. About 250 people were detained for violent behaviour during and after Sunday's protests. More than 140 police officers were injured during clashes with thousands of far-right supporters and football fans. Hooligans attacked the headquarters of the ruling Democratic Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia, which makes politicians suspect political motivations. The opposition Serbian Progressive Party condemned the violence and said the perpetrators should be brought to justice. Another opposition party -- the Democratic Party of Serbia -- said authorities are responsible for the violence as they failed to restore peace and order. The Radicals also blamed authorities, arguing they should not have allowed the parade.

Poland : 26 football hooligans caught in police raid - 13/10/2010

Source : thenews.pl

More than 200 officers from the Central Investigation Bureau have detained 26 stadium hooligans in a joint raid launched in the northern city of Bydgoszcz.

The officers waged a war against football hooligans at the beginning of the year, right after breaking up an ultras group in the western city of Poznan. A similar operation in Bydgoszcz followed.

On Wednesday morning, officers from the Central Investigation Bureau raided several apartments in Bydgoszcz and neighbouring towns, detaining 26 people, including Marek G. alias “Maras”, leader of the hooligans from Bydgoszcz, and his colleagues nicknamed “Mite”, “Long”, “Hooligan”, “Neo”, “Wasp”, “Hero” and “Boxer”. The men may face up to three years in prison for starting fights.

The investigation into arranged fights between hooligans from different cities was opened after police had discovered a link between drug dealers and football hooligans. Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau were tipped about an arranged fight between hooligans from Poznan and Bydgoszcz which took place on 6 September 2008.

As many as 140 hooligans participated in the massive fight. Those who were detained Wednesday are the “leading hooligans”, as described by the Central Investigation Bureau. Most of the detainees had criminal records.

Marseille To Appeal Supporter Ban From PSG Matches - 12/10/2010

Source : Goal

Marseille directors have decided they will make an appeal to allow their supporters to travel to the capital and watch their side take on Paris Saint-Germain next month.

The LFP made the decision that the two corresponding fixtures would see no travelling fans allowed into the stadium, for fear of violence.

But a statement on OM's official website reads they wish to have their fans attend the match.

"The people of Marseille are now punished arbitrarily and it seems unfair to stigmatise the behaviour of fans in Marseille, who are the only ones in France to undergo this kind of ostracism in the preventing their team in Paris," the statement read.

"The club has decided to appeal the decision of the League...entering the Administrative Tribunal."

A decision is expected to be made by the end of next week.

Platini: UEFA has zero tolerance for hooligans ahead of Euro 2012 - 14/10/2010

Source : monstersandcritics.com

UEFA President Michel Platini said Poland and Ukraine will be prepared to deal with football hooligans when they host Euro 2012, in a statement that came days after rioting in Italy forced officials to suspend a qualifying game.

'We know where the hooligans are,' Platini told reporters in Warsaw. 'Poland is also not immune to this.'

The comments came after the Euro 2012 qualifier between Italy and Serbia was suspended after just seven minutes Tuesday when a group of Serbian fans rioted at the Luigi Ferraris stadium in Genoa, Italy.

Police arrested 17 hooligans after some 100 fans damaged a protecting net, crashed plexiglas barriers and set off flares.

'I can only guarantee that UEFA will consistently practice ... the rule of zero tolerance for hooligan pranks,' Platini said.

Platini added that officials in Poland and Ukraine will be prepared to prevent violence during the prestigious tournament, and that both governments were responsible for providing security.

Platini's visit to Warsaw included a helicopter tour of construction sites that were building infrastructure to host Euro 2012.

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski joined Platini on the flight over sites that included the national stadium, central train station and airport.

Platini said there was 'no cause for concern' over Poland's progress in getting ready for the games, and that construction of needed infrastructure was going according to plan.

Komorowski said preparations for the games were part of a 'long- term' process of modernizing Poland.

'Euro 2012 is a great chance to introduce the world to Poland's accomplishments on the road to modernization,' Komorowski said.

The UEFA executive committee on October 5 rubber-stamped the match schedule for Euro 2012. Four cities in each country will be the main game venues for 32 teams participating in the tournament.

Poland and Ukraine have both come under fire for slow or inefficient preparation efforts. Polish criticism focused on slow stadium construction and limited footballing infrastructure, and Ukrainian complaints centered on hotel shortages and shoddy roads.

Platini expressed dissatisfaction in April with Ukraine's progress in building stadiums, airports and other infrastructure, saying that the championships might be held in only two Ukrainian cities.

‘Red Star’ hooligans ousting Karadzic in Genoa - 15/10/2010

Source : Blic

‘The violence of hooligans in Genoa was directed against Tomislav Karadzic, President of the Serbian Football Association (FSS). The ‘action’ was executed as per order by leaders of the most extreme fan groups of ‘Red Star’ fans’, one of that football club’s fans says for ‘Blic’.

‘It is not a secret for both the club and the fans which those groups are and who their leaders are. They are three to four men in control of the whole fan north. For fear of arrest they did not dear travel to Italy. They wrote scenario for what happened in Italy’, our source says.

Police Director Milorad Veljovic said yesterday evening that the police were investigating how ‘Red Star’ extreme fans managed to come to Genoa. ‘It is well known that it is not usual for them to travel abroad to support the national team’, Veljovic said.

The National Security Council led by Serbia President Boris Tadic met yesterday and concluded that ‘hooligans are not a force that can jeopardize security of the country’ and that ‘their acting was not instructed from abroad’.

On the other hand Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac said yesterday that the violence during the ‘Pride parade’ and at the football match in Genoa were politically motivated and expressed hope that the competent bodies shall determine who organized them.

The fan that ‘Blic’ talked to claims that hooligans made incidents in Genoa not to oust President Tadic or prevent Serbia from joining the EU.

‘Their only target was Tomislav Karadzic, the FSS President’, he claims.

He further claims that it was known before the match that hooligans intended to insult goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic. They cannot forgive him for leaving ‘Red Star’ and joining ‘Partizan’ and Karadzic supported him in that. The conflict between Karadzic and ‘Red Star’ FC erupted in March when Karadzic found out that the first man of ‘Red Star’ Vladan Lukic made threats to him over phone telling him ‘to keep hands away from ‘Red Star’ FC’. Namely Karadzic was preparing privatization of football clubs in Serbia.

The situation in Tirana is calm at the moment, and the Albanian police have acted professionally by stopping the threat to property and lives of the employees in the Serbian Embassy, after the Albanian hooligans burnt the Serbian flag in front of the embassy building, stated Ambassador Miroljub Zaric.

He assessed as indicative that there have been no official reactions of Albanian institutions and politicians, nor was the incident condemned.

Zaric has specified that the first incident took place in downtown Tirana, where a group of dozen or so hooligans had gathered to shout the words of support to Kosmet independence.

They burnt a Serbian flag they had brought with them, and confronted the police. Yesterday, more than 200 hooligans have tried again to gather in front of the embassy, but the police stopped them, pointed Zaric, while adding that those hooligans then went to another part of the town, in front of his residence, and burnt another flag.

There is connection between Serbian hooligans, Italian extremists – 16/10/2010

Source : FOCUS News Agency

It is possible that there is a connection between Serbian football hooligans and Italian extreme rightist groups, Italian media write on Saturday, commenting on the Serbs’ outrage during the Italy-Serbia European Championship qualifier.
According to police, it seems as if there is some ‘black nationalism’ between the extremists from Serbia, Slovenia, Austria and Italy, who connect the neo-fascism to extreme football fans, Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper writes.
It is not by chance that the group of 37 football fans arrested by Italian police includes Austrian nationals, a Croatian, a Slovenian and a Serb, who lives in Trento.
Around 200 football fans from Serbia were in Milan, where they had a meeting with representatives of the Italian extreme rightists.
Police are looking for connection between the extreme rightist groups in Verona and the Serbian nationalists and neo-Nazis, Il Jurnale writes.
Police are investigating the information that the group of Serbian fans has arrived in Verona with several buses and then went to Genoa, as well as that one of the flags waved during the violence at the stadium was bearing a Verona sign.
Ivan Bogdanov, leader of the Serbian fans, and other 8 Serbs will face the court in Italy and may be sentenced to up to 4 years in jail, Italian media say.

‘Serb rioters were payed by gangsters’ - 16/10/2010

Source : Sapa-AFP

Two fugitive chiefs of criminal gangs paid more than 200,000 euros to football fans whose rioting forced the cancellation of Serbia's Euro 2012 qualifying match against Italy earlier this week, a daily newspaper reported Saturday.

“More than 200,000 euros had been paid to more than 60 hooligans for organisation, travelling, getting equipment and rioting due to which the match in Genoa was not played,” the pro-government Politika daily said, quoting a source close to the probe.

According to the report, police are following a lead that the riots were ordered by two chiefs of separate criminal gangs – a cocaine dealer suspected also of money laundering and one believed to head a criminal organisation linked to a number of murders, robberies and violence.

It was likely that the two, “despite being in a financial dispute with each other, financed the riots because both have interests to create chaos in the state of Serbia”, the source, who asked not to be named, told Politika.

Police have also been checking a lead that people dissatisfied with the situation in the Serbian Football Federation had been behind the riots, but the source said this was a less likely scenario.

The match in Genoa was stopped on Tuesday after just six minutes due to Serbian fans throwing flares onto the pitch and at rival Italy supporters.

Police in Italy made 17 arrests and 16 people were hospitalised after the clashes in Genoa. The injured included two policemen.

Serbian police have detained 35 football fans on their way back from Genoa in northern Italy.

The Interior Minister Ivica Dacic promised a thorough police probe into the incidents.

Serbia has stepped up the fight against organised crime in a bid to meet conditions for membership in the European Union.

Inter Milan - Tottenham - 13/10/2010

Source : AFP

Spurs fans told to leave Star of David regalia at home

Italian authorities on Friday denied reports that Milanese police had told Tottenham fans coming to watch their side in Champions League action at Inter Milan on Wednesday not to bring Star of David banners.

The star is a traditional club symbol extending beyond religious connotations - though the London side do have a solid base of Jewish fans.

According to the Tottenham website, "the police authorities have advised that those flags showing the Star of David will not be allowed access and may be confiscated. Please respect this request."

But, via Milanese local politician Emanuele Fiano, the police denied issuing such a specific instruction.

"The Milan prefect, Gian Valerio Lombardi, with whom I have spoken, has denied that any Italian police authority has made any stipulation against banners bearing the Star of David," Fiano said.

"I note as much with satisfaction, as otherwise I would have gone to the stadium myself with a Star of David flag," he added.

The Star of David flags have an association with Spurs going back to the club's early days in the 1880s.

News that the banners would not be welcome angered the chairman of the Maccabi Italia association of Jews in Italy, Vittorio Pavoncello, who the ANSA news agency quoted as saying that the police might do "better to ban those who insult this symbol".

Police order crackdown on casuals plotting Ibrox revenge riot - 16/10/2010

Source : dailyrecord.co.uk

CASUALS from England are planning a revenge attack over the UEFA Cup final riot.

Police have been tipped off that the thugs will fight running battles on the streets of Glasgow before Rangers' crunch Champions League clash against Man Utd next month.

It's believed thugs from south of the Border will target Gers fans on Paisley Road West.

The police and other agencies met last week to discuss their tactics.

A police source said last night: "Intelligence has been received about these supposed fans coming to Glasgow for the return leg of the Champions League game."

The threat comes after Gers fans rioted at the 2008 Uefa Cup final in Manchester. Around 175,000 Gers supporters had travelled to the game.

Chaos erupted when a big screen at Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre broke down just after kick-off.

Fans clashed with riot police, leaving a trail of damage in the city centre as their side lost to Russians Zenit St Petersburg.

Eleven of the troublemakers were jailed by a judge who described the events as "the wor st night of v iolence and destruction suffered by Manchester city centre since the Blitz".

Cops in Lancashire had feared a repeat when Rangers and United were drawn in the same group this season.

Fans attending Rangers's 0-0 draw with United at Old Trafford in September had to gather in Wigan before being bused to the match under police escort.

There were running battles in Paisley Road West the last time United came to Ibrox in the Champions League. Thousands of ticketless fans filled pubs in the city centre and around the stadium in October 2003.

Cops estimated there were 7000 English supporters in the city. Only 2500 had tickets.

A total of 50 arrests were made by police that night - half of them on Paisley Road West before the game.

Rangers Suppor ters Associat ion general secretary John Macmillan said last night: "My advice to all fans would be that if you hear about or see any trouble to report it to the police as soon as possible and to avoid it at all costs.

"The vast majority of all football fans do not want any trouble and I hope that there is none at this match and it is the last thing that we want."

The police source said a "si lver" meeting had been held about the threat .

"Silver" refers to the second level of a three-tier police command structure.

A silver commander is the tactical chief for a particular event, normally a senior officer who would be based in a police nerve centre, such as a purpose-built command vehicle, from where they would direct operations.

The recent silver grade meeting at Strathclyde Police saw the operations team meet agencies such as British Transpor t Pol ice, other emergency services and public transport officials to discuss the intelligence report on the planned trouble.

Superintendent Jim Watson of the city's G division said: "Strathclyde Police is experienced in policing major football matches and, as with every major event or game, it will be policed appropriately.

"Our priority is the safety of everyone going to the game and that they enjoy the experience and return home safely."

The game is on Wednesday, November 24, at 7.45pm.

Saints fans arrested after train violence - 12/10/2010

Source : local press (thanks to the sender)

TWO men believed to be Saints supporters have been arrested after a man was left with bruising following an attack on a train.

A 33-year-old man said that two men on board the 6.10pm Southampton to Salisbury service had assaulted him after he asked them to stop using abusive language.

The attack left the victim, from Andover, with reddening and bruising to his head and shoulders and resulted in him losing a tooth. Police were called to Salisbury railway station at 6.55pm on Saturday, and the men, both aged 20, from Southampton and Romsey, were arrested.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said it was believed that the men are Southampton Football Club supporters, but it is not yet known whether they were returning from Saturday’s match at St Mary’s Stadium against Tranmere Rovers.

Source: http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/Msports/MalaysianFootball/MsportsMalaysianFootballTopStories/tabid/95/Default.aspx?newsId=108087

Kelantan fan dies after Selangor-Kelantan match

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5 Sports) - One of Kelantan's supporters died from suffocation during the first quarter final Malaysia Cup match between Selangor and Kelantan at Shah Alam Stadium.

The victim, Che Karma Sulaima, suffocated while trying to exit the stadium at the end of the match.

The supporters were rushing for the exits as a fight broke out between the frustrated supporters.

The chaos was sparked by the sending off of Kelantan's Norshahrul Idlah Talaha and Selangor's P. Gunalan.

The supporters showed their frustration by lighting firecrackers and ripping off stadium seats.

FAM general secretary Datuk Azzudin Ahmad said that they are waiting for the match commissioner’s report which will then be channelled to the right department for further action.

“We can only impress upon the hosts (Kelantan FA) to ensure adequate security is in place," said Datuk Azzudin.

The first quarter final match saw the teams drew 0-0 and the second quarter final will be held in Kota Bharu this Saturday.
