Belgrade football match abandoned after fans riot
Football fans rioted in Belgrade's "Maracana" stadium, forcing abandonment of a Yugoslav football first division match between Red Star and Partizan.
Partizan fans sparked trouble by tossing fireworks and stadium seats at rival fans and on to the pitch.
Hundreds of Red Star supporters broke out of their end of the ground and raced across the pitch to confront the Partizan fans.
Some Partizan fans broke out of their fenced-off section in turn and engaged in hand-to-hand fighting, but most stayed put until riot police finally arrived.
The police managed to break up the melee
Around 40 people were injured in the violence, one of them seriously, local media quoted hospital officials as saying.
Several Partizan players were attacked by fans from the Red Star section and later appeared sporting stitches and facial cuts.
"Red Star supporters were after us and the Red Star players helped us to escape with only minor injuries," said Partizan captain Sasa Ilic. "The physical damage is insignificant. We suffered more psychologically."
The match was later called off.

Paris SG - Marseille - 13/10/2000
Source: mail
It's the biggest match of the French championship. 2 hours before the kick-of, about 200 Parisian hooligans tried to attack the Marseille supporters bus, but the CRS (french cops) used many tear gas grenades. There were clashes between Parisians (hools and supporters) and CRS before and after the game. Nothing else during the game, Marseille supporters were about 1000, but refused, like each year, to fight and prefered to be protected by police... It's becoming more and more difficult to provoke fights between the two clubs, 'cause the police is organised!

Leicester City - Manchester United - 14/10/2000
Source: BBC
There were ugly scenes outside Filbert Street on Saturday afternoon. Police moved quickly to quell the violence as running scuffles broke out between football fans following Leicester City's crunch clash with Manchester United.
Eyewitnesses estimate up to 150 people were involved in trouble and say some coins and bottles were thrown.
About 40 police with dog handlers swooped to quell the trouble as scuffles between rival sets of supporters spilled on to Walnut Street, Havelock Street and Aylestone Road. One eyewitness said officers had used batons to separate groups and before a large section of the travelling supporters was given a police escort to Leicester station.
Police confirmed a number of arrests were made following fighting among a "substantial number" of rival supporters.
British Transport Police said there was no further trouble at Leicester station, and confirmed that no further arrests were made before away fans left the city.

Stoke City - Millwall FC - 23/10/2000
Source: BBC
A senior paramedic who was attacked by football fans at the weekend was also caught up in CS spray discharged by the police, it has emerged. The 52-year-old man was in full uniform when he waspushed and jostled after violence erupted after Saturday's game between Stoke City and Millwall at the Britannia Stadium. He had become trapped among a group of Millwall supporters in the South Stand car park where his own vehicle was parked at a time when missiles were being thrown by both sets of fans. Chief Inspector Vaughan Betts of Staffordshire Police said CS spray was used by officers to keep Millwall supporters away from a security fence separating them from their Stoke counterparts. Millwall fans ripped out seats inside the ground and afterwoods went outside the ground to get to the Stoke fans.

Football thug jailed for threatening WPC - 04/10/2000
Source: http://www.thisiswiltshire.co.uk
Football thug Adam Cinquegrani has been jailed after threatening a policewoman at Swindon Town's match at Reading.
Cinquegrani was sent to prison for three months and banned from attending domestic matches for two years. It is the second match ban the 21-year-old has been ordered to serve for hooliganism.
Last year he received a one year ban for affray and assault on another police officer and was sentenced to 45 days in a young offenders' institute.
Cinquegrani was among 50 Swindon fans who surged towards Reading supporters outside the Berkshire club's Majedski Stadium after the match on August 19.
He punched and kicked out towards WPC Ceri Lothian after she attempted to separate the rival fans with her German Shepherd dog, Reading Magistrates' Court was told.
With a Reading fan already lying unconscious, the officer feared that violence would be used again. The WPC then extended her baton and stepped into what she could only describe as "a highly volatile situation".
Despite repeated warnings to Cinquegrani, the fan continued to walk directly towards her in a break away group of seven men, the court heard.
Elizabeth Baker, prosecuting, said: "The fans continued surging straight-forward. The defendant was particularly aggressive walking towards her, shouting at her.
"She told him to back off or the dog would bite. He punched his fists at the officer and was kicking out. He was very agitated."
Cinquegrani, of Claire Walk, Toothill, failed to heed her warnings and was eventually bitten by the dog and later arrested.
However Adonis Daniel, defending, claimed that Cinquegrani, who entered a guilty plea to the single charge of using threatening and abusive behaviour had "no intention at all" of being involved in a fracas. Mr Daniel said he was simply trying to help an injured pal.
In sentencing Cinquegrani to three months in a young offender's institute, Chairman of the Bench Mrs Jill Read said: "This is far more serious because you have already been in a young offenders institute and your lack of response is quite clear.
"This was one of the first occasions you were allowed to a football match after your ban had finished. You showed blatant disregard for the audible and visual warnings made by the police officer.
"You shall serve half the sentence in custody and the rest will be suspended. We also impose a domestic football ban for two years."

Coin thrower is jailed for Dallas Old Firm shame - 27/10/2000
Source : Daily Record
A THUG who threw coins on to the pitch during the explosive Old Firm game when referee Hugh Dallas was injured was jailed yesterday.
Celtic fan Paul Hodge sobbed when he was led away in handcuffs after being told he had been sentenced to three months.
But he was then released on bail pending an appeal.
Hodge, 38, has been banned by the club for the rest of his life.
The warehouse worker, who lives in Coventry, was originally charged with throwing the coin which struck Dallas.
The ref slumped to the ground with blood pouring from a head wound.
But the Crown dropped the assault charge and Hodge pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of throwing coins on to the field of play, causing fear and alarm to the players and match officials.
Yesterday Dallas, who needed stitches in the head wound, said: "Hopefully that's everything behind us now and we can move on."
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Hodge's violence could have sparked serious trouble at tension-packed Parkhead during the May 1999 title showdown between Celtic and Rangers.
Twenty-nine fans were arrested within the stadium and another 39 outside.
Celtic lost the game 3-0 and surrendered the league title.
The court heard season ticket holder Hodge's behaviour was caught on CCTV cameras and police were easily able to identify him.
Fans ran on the pitch to try to assault Dallas and trouble threatened to spill over. Dallas also had windows at his home broken after the game.
Gary McAteer, defending, pleaded for Hodge to be spared a prison sentence, saying his life had been made hell since the incident.
But before Hodge was released on bail, Sheriff Brian Convery told him: "Given the nature of the offence I feel that I am only able to impose a custodial term of three months."
Last night, a spokesman for Celtic FC confirmed: "Paul Hodge has been banned from Celtic Park for life."

Widzew Lodz - LKS Lodz - 13/10/2000
Source: mail - LKS view
On Friday the thirteen of September 2000, three weeks after our last visit, we decided to interrupt the meeting of rts widzew lads. This time there was 47 of us. Like the last time we took a trolley to the intersection of Niciarniana and Pilsudskiego (intersection near the place where widzew lads were suppose to held their meeting). Across the street near the stadium we spotted a group of 50 widzew lads. The distance between them and us was quiet large, therefore they had time to think what to do. First they took out their armory (knives, clubs, chains etc.) and next approached the trolley tracks to gather rocks. While they were picking up the rocks we entered the street and began running toward the enemy. When the distance between the two groups was only a few meters they began throwing rocks they just picked up. We also had thrown a few rocks at them. Soon both groups were tied together and fighting. One of the widzew hooligans who was up front was badly beaten. After a while of fighting the hosts of this meeting that is widzew fans run away. Three of widzew lads did not manage to escape and were badly injured. Two of them were hospitalized after they had been hit with knives. The third also needed medical attention because of his head wounds, which had to be closed with stitches. There was some damage on our side too. Two of our friends had been hit in heads. Some of widzew lads who managed to run away found safety on the roofs of nearby shacks. Once we noticed them on the roofs we charged at them immediately. As a result of our attack they had to abandon the roofs and keep running away. After they escape from the roofs two of them stopped and from faraway were screaming "fu... LKS". After that incident we spotted a group of six widzew lads that came out of alley. Once they saw us they made a hundred eighty degree turn and started running. At this moment we decided to split into a few small groups and head back home. On the way back home one of our groups encountered three of widzew lads, and chased them for a couple of kilometers hoping they would stop and fight. In conclusions I would like say that widzew lads confirmed that they have a strong bond with rocks. They can handle them well especially when their enemy is at some distance. Besides throwing rocks they can run really quickly. In my opinion they should become track and field athletes.

Poland - Belarus - 07/10/2000
Source: mail - LKS Lodz view
Our fighting squad consisted of 100 hooligans from LKS Lodz, 50 GKS Tychy, 3 Resovia Rzeszow, and 1 from Zawisza Bydgoszcz. About an hour before the game we came up on a trolley to the intersection of Niciarniana and Pilsudskiego (intersection near the stadium where the game took place) where we got off. When we saw Jews (widzew hooligans) immediately we tried to assault them, however policemen that were standing there started shooting to us with rubber bullets. Once the cops got back and moved near the stadium, our squad started crossing the intersection. At that moment very large gang of Jewish hooligans run up to the intersection. This group was immediately crashed. Some of them run away to the near park and some came back under the stadium. At least one jew was injured. After that incident we started walking along Pilsudskiego Street toward the stadium. Under the stadium we spotted a large group of fans that was accompanied by police. At some point cops started beating this group with clubs. It lasted a few minutes and next it was quiet. After passing this group we ran onto the street and attacked entire Coalition (see explanation below). A large amount of stones had been thrown at us. Besides that from the side some hooligans from Legia and Lechia charged at us. There were over 500 hools from Coalition under the stadium. We had to step back all the way to the park. Coalition with jews followed us. Running through the park we stopped several times in order to fight however we were outnumbered. Once we got to the train tracks we launched another counterattack. This fight lasted much longer. However after a while we had to withdraw again. One of us, a lad from GKS Tychy, was caught by enemy and badly beaten. Then we crossed the railroad tracks and got on the trolley in order to go back to the stadium and attack again. On the next stop police charged into the first cart and apprehended many of us. First they handcuffed us and then beat up with clubs. Those in the other carts had to evacuate. "Coalition" in polish "Koalicja" is a group made up of Legia Warsaw, Zaglebie Sosnowiec, Lechia Gdansk, Widzew, Slask Wroclaw, Pogon Szczecin, Wisla Krakow and a several small clubs. A few years ago they decided not fight among themselves during polish national football team games and help each other in fights with other lads.
" Three" in polish "Trojca" or "Triada" - Lech Poznan, Arka Gdynia, Cracovia Krakow, and a several small clubs. The Triada is a big enemy of Coalition.
LKS LODZ is outside this two big groups. Coalition and Three are our enemies.
