France : Montpellier sanctioned by disciplinary committee for rowdy fans - 01/10/2018
Source : http://en.rfi.fr/ + french press
France's Ligue 1's disciplinary committee imposed restrictions on future matches at Montpellier Monday, after their game at home against Nîmes was halted for more than 30 minutes because of crowd trouble.
Two of the club's football stands, the Etang de Thau and the Petite Camargue, will now be closed and fans will no longer be allowed to park outside the La Mosson stadium.
The restrictions were imposed after Montpellier's 3-0 victory over Nîmes Sunday ended up with a collapsed gate and two people injured.
The barrier came down after Montpellier had scored their second goal. Several fans ended up on the pitch with two reported to have suffered injuries, forcing referee Ruddy Buquet to halt the match for seven minutes.
This was the first league tie between the pair since 1993 and tensions had been simmering even before the clash.
Both clubs are based in the south of France and are bitter rivals.
Nîmes fans were attacked by Montpellier supporters in May, supposedly in response to Nîmes fans breaking into La Mosson stadium last November.
This time round, the trouble was caused by Montpellier ultras, according to a security officer at the club.
"The ultras went on to the pitch to recover part of their banner that had been stolen," the officer told AFP news agency, forcing riot police to intervene with tear gas.
Referee Buquet again opted to stop the game, causing a delay that lasted this time 20 minutes.

A Liverpool fan was injured after being attacked in the centre of Naples ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game, Italian police said.
The 26-year-old was drinking with a group of friends outside a cafe on via Cesare Rosaroll in the city’s historic centre just after midnight when they were accosted by a group of local men.
The young man was taken to hospital and treated for cuts and bruising notably to his face and knees, police said according to the AGI news agency.
He was given medication and later discharged with a full recovery expected in two weeks.
Police said video surveillance cameras in the city centre would be used to try and identify the assailants.

Liverpool FC fans attacked outside Napoli stadium before Champions League match
We'll bring you the latest from Italy as excitement builds as Liverpool fans are in Naples ahead of LFC’s Champions League group stage clash against Napoli.
More than 2,000 supporters are expected to descend on the city.
Many fans are taking up advice from both Merseyside and Italian Police that travelling fans should not wear club colours or shirts around the city centre for their own safety.
Advice put out by the club and Merseyside Police, after a security meeting last week, also warns supporters against “wandering off alone” and using public transport.
Officers from the force will be in the city to help travelling fans before and after the match.
The away allocation of 2,639 tickets has been sold out ahead of the match at the Stadio San Paolo.
Liverpool fans ‘chased and attacked’ by thugs wearing ‘Napoli shirts’
A group of Liverpool fans were reportedly chased and attacked by a gang of thugs “wearing Napoli shirts” before their side’s Champions League clash in Naples.
One of the supporters was punched in the back of the head outside the San Paolo stadium before police managed to intervene.
The fans, who are staying in a hotel close to the stadium, were taking a walk before the match when the incident happened. Ryan Bassett and his friends say they were attacked from behind by around five Italian men.

PSG and Red Star Belgrade charged by UEFA after fans clashed outside Parc des Princes before Champions League fixture and home fans lit fireworks - 04/10/2018
Source : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/
UEFA has charged Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star Belgrade for fan violence at their Champions League game.
The UEFA disciplinary panel will judge 'crowd disturbances' charges against both clubs on October 18.
Red Star has also been charged for 'illicit chants' inside Parc des Princes on Wednesday, though the club was banned by UEFA from selling tickets to its fans.
Rival fans clashed outside the stadium after PSG won 6-1, with Neymar scoring a hat trick.
UEFA also charged PSG because fans lit fireworks inside the stadium.
UEFA previously punished Red Star this season for fan incidents including racist behavior and damaging a rival team's stadium in the qualifying rounds.
The Serbian champions are also under threat of a UEFA probationary order to close its stadium for a home game.
