Sunderland fans held after train incident - 13/04/2010
Source : sunderlandecho.com
Two Black Cats fans were arrested as supporters made their way home from Sunderland's match against West Ham. British Transport Police (BTP) were called after reports of rowdiness on the 6.20pm train from Kings Cross, London, on Saturday.
The train was carrying 105 Sunderland fans back home from SAFC's 1-0 defeat against the Hammers.
When the train arrived at York, BTP officers boarded and arrested two men allegedly behind some of the booze-fuelled behaviour.
A BTP spokeswoman said: "Two men were arrested at York and taken off the 18.20 Kings Cross service."
The train then continued and, at Durham, fans were met by a number of officers and police dogs at the station.
Police said 150 people got off the train without trouble. A police spokeswoman said: "We got a call from BTP and arrived at the train station at about 10.15pm on Saturday.
"We had the dog section and traffic officers there to meet people off the train. About 150 people got off the train, with quite a few wearing red and white shirts.
"Some had been drinking a bit, but the crowd dispersed and went without incident."
One fan who was travelling on the train wrote on an Internet forum: "My carriage had an absolutely great time.
"The BTP on the train were spot-on in my opinion and let us have some fun and quietly calmed down anyone who was getting a little rowdy.
"We sang most of the way home – not Sunderland songs particularly, but just fun."
A 50-year-old man has been charged with a section 5 public order offence and is due to appear before York magistrates on April 23.
Another Sunderland man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated section 5 offence.
He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Belgrade: Trial date set in hooligan murder case - 12/04/2010
Source: Tanjug
The trial of 15 hooligans charged with killing Frenchman Brice Taton last September is scheduled to start before the Belgrade District Court on April 21.
This was announced today by court spokeswoman Dušica Ristić.
Two of the accused who are on the run will be tried in absence, while all other defendants are in custody.
Protected witnesses, who were interrogated in the course of the investigation, are expected to testify at the trial. Their identities will remain secret for security reasons and the main hearing will be closed to the public.
The group will all be tried for aggravated murder.
They are charged with assaulting and killing Taton, a visiting French football fan, in central Belgrade on September 17, 2009.
The charges state the defendants engaged in wanton violence and were of sound mind, aware of their act and its criminal nature.
Taton was brutally beaten before he died in a Belgrade hospital ten days later.

150 Cumbrian officers to police Carlisle Utd and Leeds grudge match - 13/04/2010
Source : newsandstar.co.uk
About 150 officers have been drafted into a huge Cumbria police operation to stop trouble flaring as Carlisle United take on Leeds tonight.
Officers on horseback, motorcycles and with dogs will patrol as the teams meet for the first time following claims Leeds players were attacked after a Brunton Park pitch invasion.
Leeds reacted angrily after Carlisle’s penalty shoot-out win in the stormy Johnstone’s Paint Trophy semi-final tie in February that took United to a Wembley final.
Ken Bates, Leeds chairman, claimed Carlisle fans had shone lasers into the eyes of the Leeds penalty takers and accused United of “cheating”.
There were also claims by Leeds manager Simon Grayson after the game that three of his players were attacked when Carlisle fans spilled onto the pitch.
Police said at the time the policing and stewarding was conducted in a “restrained and professional manner”.
A number of arrests have also been made following trouble surrounding other games between the two clubs over the last few years.
Tonight’s game is set to attract Brunton Park’s biggest league crowd of the season, with the club anticipating an attendance of 9,000 fans, including a large following from Leeds.
Police, who have drawn on help from Cleveland Constabulary’s mounted section, say officers will be deployed to deter violence and respond quickly to any trouble spots.
Police – some with evidence-gathering head cameras – will be out at Brunton Park and in “other strategic locations” around the city.
Officers said hooligans would be “identified, targeted and removed” and the operation would be supported by “robust stewarding and security measures inside the ground”.
Chief Superintendent Don Spiller – Carlisle’s police chief – is in charge.
He said: “Cumbria Constabulary is committed to ensuring Brunton Park is a safe place for all fans to enjoy the game.
“The policing operation will target troublemakers who are intent on spoiling the enjoyment of genuine supporters.
“Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in any form and all incidents will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.”
Chief Supt Spiller added the force would also pursue football banning orders, which bar hooligans from football grounds, for “any relevant offences”.
United are urging supporters to ensure the game is remembered for the right reasons and have asked fans to cheer on the team but stay off the pitch.
Ticket sales for the game are only permitted to fans who are on Carlisle’s database as having already bought match tickets from the club.
They are available from the main ticket office at Brunton Park and from the Cumberland Building Society on Fisher Street until 2pm today. The game kicks-off at 7.45pm.

Rotterdam braces itself for hooligan onslaught - 13/04/2010
Source : http://www.rnw.nl
This month's Dutch Cup final is proving a severe headache for the Rotterdam city council. The match - a classic clash between arch rivals Ajax Amsterdam and Rotterdam's Feyenoord - will be staged in the latter city on 25 April.
Fears of large-scale hooliganism have been prompted by campaigns on the websites of hardcore Ajax fans, who are threatening "to flatten Rotterdam again". The port city was bombed by the Germans in 1940, and a chilling picture of the flattened city centre has been posted to illustrate the threat. Calls to go rioting have also been posted on Feyenoord fansites.
Not on the list It's not just the Ajax fans that are causing concern. Among the Feyenoord fans there is a group of hooligans who were involved in a mass fight with police at a beach party. Police fired shots which killed one of the rioters on the Hook of Holland beach, near Rotterdam, in August 2009. Hooligans who were convicted for their part in the beach riot have meanwhile completed their sentence and are expected to attend the match.
As a part of their sentence the judge banned them from being present at public events by way of precaution, but the national football cup final was omitted from the list of events.
The Rotterdam council has asked Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb to extend the ban so the hooligan group can be kept away from the loaded Ajax - Feyenoord match. The mayor has said he will announce measures on Thursday.
Returned tickets Ajax has voluntarily limited the number of tickets sold to its supporters in order to keep the crowds manageable. Instead of 10,000 Ajax fans, 7,700 will travel to Rotterdam. The other 2,300 tickets have been handed back to the national football association, KNVB. They will be sold to fill the neutral section of the terraces, and the ticket holders will only be allowed into the Feyenoord stadium when they show their ID.
Yet some Rotterdam councillors are worried that the tickets might end up in the wrong hands, that is Ajax hooligans.
The two sides have a long history of fights. In 1997 Rotterdam and Amsterdam hooligans fought a pitched battle on farmland outside the town of Beverwijk, west of the Dutch capital. A 35-year-old Ajax supporter was killed in the fight. In the end no-one was convicted for the killing, but to this day, the incident has cast a bleak shadow over Ajax-Feyenoord duels.

Football fan shot in stomach
A Red Star FC fan who was shot in the stomach yesterday during Serbia's football cup semifinal game is now stable, the doctors said.
The 21-year-old Igor Velić was injured in the stands of Red Star's Belgrade stadium as the team played against city rivals OFK Beograd.
Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that police have information about the possible shooter, and that they are looking for him.
As for the fact firearms were brought inside the stadium, Dačić said that an investigation into that was in order.
According to reports, two more persons were slightly injured as hooligans, described as "Red Star's most passionate fans", clashed yesterday.
Hooligans also attacked and damaged two city buses ahead of the game.
Red Star FC officials would not offer the media any comments, saying instead they would wait for police to finish their investigation.
Red Star won the game 1-0, and will play in the cup's final.

Sheffield derby match police crackdown - 15/04/2010
Source : Sheffield Telegraph
ONE of the biggest policing operations of the year is planned in Sheffield this weekend - for the fiercely contested Steel City derby. South Yorkshire Police bosses have assigned 330 officers to police the game as well as operations before and after in a bid to prevent rival Sheffield United and Wednesday fans from clashing.
Sunday's game between the two Championship sides - the second of the football season - is expected to be seen by around 35,000 fans, with police keen to prevent trouble which has marred the fixture in the past.
There are 89 United and Wednesday supporters serving banning orders to prevent them attending games, and every one has been or will be visited by officers ahead of the derby to warn them to stay away from Hillsborough.
To stop the potential for clashes after the game 20 pubs in and around the suburb have been asked to voluntarily close between 2.30pm and 5pm to give fans a cooling-off period after the final whistle.
It is impossible for Sheffield United's performance to relegate Wednesday from the division, but police know a Blades win would be a huge setaback in Wednesday's fight to avoid the drop - leading to the potential for fans to clash.
Chief Supt Simon Torr, overseeing policing arrangements for the match, said: "With Hillsborough chosen as a host stadium for the 2018 World up it is important it is football people talk about - not disorder. The derby is always the biggest game of the season and this time there is the added fact that, although United cannot relegate Wednesday, a win for them could put a nail in the coffin for the Owls. All we want is for the genuine fans - 99 per cent of people - to enjoy a really good game."

Swans fans in rail brawl - 15/04/2010
Source : South Wales Evening Post
TRANSPORT police are appealing for information after a platform brawl between four Swansea City and five Cardiff City fans.
The violent disorder took place at Bridgend railway station on Saturday, January 30.
British Transport Police (BTP) said one of the Cardiff fans pulled a Swans fan from the train when it stopped at Bridgend, prompting the platform bust-up.
The BTP has released CCTV images of the men they would like to identify and talk to in connection with the incident, which happened at around 7.15pm.
Officers attended after hearing reports of trouble between Swans and Bluebirds fans on board the 4.45pm First Great Western service from London Paddington to Swansea.
Detective Inspector Mark Cleland said an argument broke out between two men from rival groups at 7.10pm.
"When the train arrived at Bridgend train station the group of Cardiff City supporters alighted," he said. "In doing so, one of the supporters grabbed a man who was still onboard and pulled him off the train. A fight broke out on the platform, which resulted in a brawl involving five Cardiff City fans and four Swansea city fans.
"The fight ended when the Swansea City supporters re-boarded the train and the remaining Cardiff City fans left the station."
DI Cleland added: "We have conducted a number of inquiries into this incident and hope that the CCTV images may result in members of the public recognising the men.
"I am certain that someone will recognise one or all of these men.
"I would also like to reassure members of the public that while rare, offences like this are treated very seriously by investigators and we won't rest until we have made an arrest.
"While the majority of football fans from Swansea and Cardiff are a credit to their clubs, sadly there is a minority who are intent on causing disorder in the name of football."
