Large crowds and extra police to be in city centre today for Exeter v Plymouth football match
A heavy police presence is expected in the city centre today as Exeter City take on local rivals Plymouth at home.
Around 150 officers will watch fans heading for the Devon Derby at St James's Park.
A mounted unit from Avon and Somerset Police will be among the officers deployed in St James to help with the football match which kicks off at 3pm.
Additional officers will also be in and around the High Street due to the large crowds of fans likely in the city.
Around 1,700 Argyle supporters are flocking to the city in coaches.
There will be thousands of Exeter fans as well.
Police reckon the kick off time will mean minimal disruption for shoppers in the city centre.
The Devon and Cornwall Police Football Unit originally said there were no designated pubs for the game.
But St Anne's Well and The Walkabout later revealed they will welcome just Plymouth fans.
Chief Inspector Richard Hooper-Bennett, from the Operations Planning unit, said: "We are expecting a bumper crowd, and as a Force we are experienced in policing large scale sporting events such as this. We are looking forward to what should be a great occasion."

Football fans arrested during Plymouth Argyle's Devon derby defeat to Exeter City
A TOTAL of 11 arrests were made by police during Plymouth Argyle's Devon derby with Exeter City on Saturday.
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police took the fans into custody for a variety of offences in relation to the derby game.
Chief Inspector Richard Hooper-Bennett said: "Overall for a crowd of about 8,000 people this is a very small number of people that have been arrested. I would like to thank the vast majority of fans who have enjoyed a Devon Derby played in the sunshine."
It had earlier been reported that some coaches carrying away supporters were delayed from entering Exeter because of 'police problems' in the city.
About 8,000 fans attended the match at St James's Park, which saw the home team secure a dramatic 2-1 injury-time win against their local rivals.
About 150 officers, including a unit on horses, took the city's streets in an effort to keep order.
Police said that those held for football related disorder were at risk of having banning orders applied to them in addition to any court punishments.

Charlton vs Birmingham suspended after protesting fans throw balls onto The Valley pitch
Play was suspended in the first minute of Charlton's home game against Birmingham on Saturday after hundreds of small balls were thrown onto the pitch by supporters in protest.
Demonstrations against the board have marred several home games at The Valley since the turn of the year and fan coalition CARD (The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet) earlier this week vowed to continue despite police warnings.
Play resumed after a five-minute delay as the balls where cleared up to choruses of 'we want our Charlton back' from fans in the ground.
The same group staged a mock funeral for the club ahead of last month's match against Middlesbrough amid growing unrest over the current ownership and perceived mismanagement of the club.
That game was also halted in the opening stages as several beachballs were hurled onto the pitch by supporters in another show of discontent against those calling the shots at The Valley.
Belgian businessman Duchatelet, who also owns Belgian club Standard Liege, has sacked four permanent mangers since buying the club in 2014 and overseen a decline in performances which has seen Charlton drop to the cusp of League One.
Indeed, the Addicks are 23rd in the Championship, six points from safety, with eight games remaining to save their season.
Following last month's demonstrations, Duchatelet issued a statement accusing supporters of 'wanting the club to fail' and CARD today republished the statement in an 'unofficial mathcday programme' handed out to fans outside the ground.
The group tweeted ahead of kick-off: "Lest Charlton "forget" to include Duchatelet's bonkers statement in today's prog, we've put it in ours!"
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 pin badges bearing the fan group slogan 'we want our Charlton back' were handed out and fans were encouraged to take the 'difficult step' of holding off before signing up for next year's season tickets.
CARD urged: "[We] ask you to withold that crucial support from this inadequate, unprofressional and deceitful administration.
"We recognise that for many this is a difficult thing to do, because loyalty to Charlton is ingrained in all our lives.
"But it is a decision every individual will have an opportunity to review over the symmer. And we need to do eeverything we can to get these people out. This is one way everyone can help.
"We respect that it's your choice, but please think carefully before you give this regime your support for another year."

Football fan charged after throwing seat onto pitch
A 24-year-old Limassol man has been charged with violence at a sports venue, and damaging property after he threw a seat into the field, police said.
The man was a spectator at Saturday’s football match between APOEL Nicosia and Apollon Limassol at the GSP stadium in the capital, sitting in the north stand with supporters of the latter team.
At some point he allegedly removed a seat and threw it on to the pitch below. At the end of the game he was identified by stadium stewards and arrested by police.
He was taken to CID Nicosia and charged in writing.

Teen arrested over Chris Brunt coin-throwing incident faces no further action - 02/04/2016
Source : http://www.skysports.com/
A teenager who was arrested following the incident where West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt was struck in the face by a coin will face no further action.
Thames Valley Police made an arrest in February after Northern Ireland international Brunt, 31, suffered a cut under his left eye when he approached the stand housing Baggies supporters following a 3-1 loss to Reading in the FA Cup.
The force have now said a 17-year-old has been given a caution in relation to the matter at the Madejski Stadium and will take no further action.
In a statement a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police stated: "A 17-year-old boy from Shropshire was given a youth caution for using threatening/abusive words/behaviour or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment/alarm or distress.
"No further action was taken in relation to the offence of throwing a missile on to a football playing area."
The Football Association had also launched an investigation into the incident against Brunt, who called the act "absolutely disgusting".

Indonesia: Police Nab Boy for Inciting Violence Ahead of Bhayangkara Cup Final - 02/04/2016
Source : http://jakartaglobe.beritasatu.com/
Police have arrested a 13-year-old student for allegedly inciting football supporters through social media to commit acts of violence during the Bhayangkara Cup final in Jakarta this weekend, an official said on Saturday (02/04).
The boy, identified only as A.T.B., was arrested on Friday night in South Jakarta, after investigators discovered a post on his Facebook account urging fans of Persija from Jakarta to attack those of Persib from Bandung, West Java.
Persib will compete against Arema from Malang, East Java, at Gelora Bung Karno stadium on Sunday evening, but Persija fans, who have a long history of hostilities with Persib supporters, are also expected at the match.
"For all Jakmania [Persija fans], if there are people in vehicles with 'D' [number] plates [from Bandung] arriving in Jakarta, ask them to turn around. If they refuse to do so, throw stones at them straight away," Sr. Comr. Mujiyono of the Jakarta Police quoted A.T.B. as saying on his Facebook post.
Investigators are still questioning the junior high school student, who is accompanied by his parents, Mujiyono added.
"This will hopefully be the last incident. No more people who provoke and those who are provoked are needed," the police officer added.
In anticipation of likely clashes between the two groups of supporters, authorities will deploy a combined force consisting of more than 11,000 police officers, military personnel and members of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in and around the stadium in Central Jakarta.
Police officers from Bandung and Malang will also escort the supporters from their respective cities to Jakarta and back.

In a bid to protest against enforced civil sanctions, the majority of Roma’s supporters once again refused to attend the Derby della Capitale, joining their Lazio counterparts in a joint absence from the Stadio Olimpico.
“I did not like the way in which the stadium was empty,” said Florenzi to PremiumSport. “The fans from both teams were missed.
“It is not right that Lazio and Roma can play each other in conditions like this.”

Lazio fans in revolt
Up to 400 Lazio fans showed up at the club headquarters after the defeat to Roma, and the police was forced to charge.
The Biancocelesti environment is breaking down into chaos after the Giallorossi beat them soundly by 4-1 in today's derby.
President Claudio Lotito announced that the team would be forced into a disciplinary training retreat, severing ties with the Press and with the player's personal friends for an indeterminate time.
Shortly thereafter, the club officially announced the sacking of Coach Stefano Pioli, and the appointment of youth Coach Simone Inzaghi as his successor.
As this happened, however, the grassroots environment did not sit back. The situation between the club and the fans was already extremely tense due to disagreements over new security measures at the Stadio Olimpico.
Lazio's Curva Nord, alongside Roma's Curva Sud, both expressed their dissent by refusing to show up at the stadium for today's derby.
After the game, however, a group of up to 400 Laziali showed up at the Aquile headquarters in Formello, staging a protest.
While the fans were unable to get hold of the players, who were returning by Coach, they blocked a road and damaged a roundabout.
The police was forced to intervene, eventually resorting to tear gas and hydrants to disperse the mob.
Police released a statement confirming fans threw bricks and rocks, injuring an agent, and 15 were arrested.
The situation has now returned to normality as the Laziali are reportedly gradually leaving Formello. The fan portal 'LaLazioSiamoNoi' has already dubbed this 'one of the darkest days in Lazio history'.
There are also reports that President Lotito was spotted in a restaurant after the game and nearly attacked by angry fans.

Bystander killed as Corinthians, Palmeiras fans battle
A bystander was killed in Sao Paulo on Sunday after being hit in the chest by a bullet fired as Palmeiras and Corinthians fans battled ahead of their Paulista state championship derby game.
Police said at least three people were arrested in that clash and two other mass brawls across the city but they could not say who fired the shot that killed the unidentified man.
"One person died in a fight between fans of Corinthians and Palmeiras at around 10:20 this morning," said Sao Paulo police sergeant Andre Aguiar. "We don't know where the shot came from."
Fights between organised fan groups of both sides are common before derbies and Sunday's death was the latest to stem from the battles. Scores of people have died in such fan-related violence over the last two decades.

Brazil : Away fans banned from Sao Paulo derbies after violence - 05/04/2016
Source : http://www.eurosport.co.uk/
Sao Paulo police have banned away fans from attending city derbies until the end of the year after a bystander was shot dead on Sunday as Palmeiras and Corinthians fans battled ahead of their state championship game.
The decision was taken by the state's military police in conjunction with the Paulista State Football Federation and public prosecutors.
"This will avoid the need for the Military Police to escort organised fan groups, which will allow a reinforcement of policing around the stadiums," Alexandre de Moraes, the Sao Paulo state's police chief, said in a statement.
Although they did not specify which clubs would be hit by the move, it is likely to apply to the state's big four -- Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and Sao Paulo.
Authorities also announced they would ban home fans groups from taking banners and drums into stadiums in the state.
While the groups say they are merely fanatical supporters, police and prosecutors have identified them as hooligans and behind some of the worst football-related violence in Brazil which has left dozens dead over the last two decades.
Officials also said they had identified 50 fans involved in the latest violence and would be banning them from stadiums.
A bystander was shot dead on Sunday when rivals groups fought pitch battles hours before Palmeiras's 1-0 win.
Police arrested at least 60 people in at least four locations across the city before and after the match, according to news reports.
"These fans are going to suffer a big setback," said public prosecutor Paulo Castilho. "The circle is closing on them and all the institutions are united to end football violence."
