Grenoble - AS St Etienne - 02/04/2004

A St Etienne fan seriously injured

Source : Reuters

A St Etienne fan was in a coma after being shot in the head just before a Ligue 2 game between the 10-time French champions and Grenoble on Friday.

'He still is in our hospital but we cannot give any health report,' a spokeswoman at the La Troche hospital told Reuters by telephone on Saturday.

Witnesses said a fight broke out between some 30 St Etienne fans and young people from a local housing estate shortly before the game in Grenoble.

'It is intolerable that a festive event turns into a bloody tragedy,' French sports minister Jean-Francois Lamour said in a statement on Saturday.

'I am determined to fight vigorously against violence in and around the stadiums,' he added.

SC Bastia - OGC Nice - 03/04/2004

Source: AFP + forums

Three Bastia fans were arrested during riots with police forces which erutped before and after the game.
When Nice fans arrived, two locals were arrested with guns and other weapons.
The third one was arrested when fights broke out, at the Saint-Nicolas place, opposing fans to police forces. Fans threw bricks and other missiles at police vans. French CRS used teargas to restore order.
Police forces said this game was classified as a high risks one. Before the game, when Nice fans coaches arrived, a group of locals attacked the coaches, using missiles
During the 1st half of the game, Nice fans also caused troubles, broken seats and throwing them onto the pitch.
************************************************************
Local view:

-Prior to the game: at 6pm, when Nice fans arrived, we were approx 400, waiting them.
Police forces waited before starting the escort. So, at 7.30pm, the 3 Nice fans coaches + police forces vans started their road to the Furiani stadium.
At this time, we started to attack the escort. The road is now closed and we try to have a toe-to-toe with visitors, but for this, we must attack policemen. Nice fans stayed inside the coaches and french CRS charged us. Some sources said 30ish visitors were injured.
-During the game: as riots took place for a long time, Nice fans and us arrived inside the stadium at 8.30pm. Nice fans are now totally angry and throw seats onto the pitch...
- End of the game: Nice fans burn a local flag and we are now totally fucking mental. We open a separation gate and we are now some meters far away from visitors. A violent fight takes place with CRS.
Some seats are exchanged.
Now, outside the stadium we are approx 1000 waiting to have a confront with visitors. Many fights erutp with cops in many places. It's now a real intifada inside the stadium.
Finally, Nice fans stayed inside the stadium until 2am. Many policemen were injured and 12 locals arrested.

Arsenal FC - Manchester United - Cup - match played in Birmingham -03/04/2004

Source: ITK + local newspaper

After the game, about 150 Arsenal, fronted some Mancs. About 30-40 steamed into them, after some toe to toe, the Mancs got run back. As they ran back, their numbers swelled to a few hundred and they stopped, and turned back. At this point Arsenal did get backed off a little. Arsenal then regrouped and went straight into them, having fully outflanked the OB who were trying to block Arsenal. The look on the Mancs faces, when all you cunts tried to stand, when Arsenal came stright at you was priceless. It went off properly and the Mancs got run back time and time again an dit seemed to be going on for ages as OB totally lost the plot.
************************************************************
ManUTD view:
Before the game as we came from the King Edward pub walking up towards the ground we saw some of your firm outside the Adventurer and as we steamed across the road your lot melted and if it wasn't for the OB you'd have got wasted. It was funny hearing the same old shouts from your lot "GET IT TOGETHER ARSENAL" while flapping and walking back-wards.

After (still in shock at what you've posted above) the game you lot had obviously got it together as we were still in the ground celebrating. As a few of us were coming out we heard a roar and saw the barmies getting scattered by about 150 firm of Arsenal (if you lot ever slate the yids off for attacking barmies you've got some front). To be fair you had a good firm at this point but we hadn't even had a chance to get it together. As your lot were steaming into our barmies a firm of reds 100-150 handed came steaming up and went sttaight into you and your lot folded and had it on your toes. A few who stood (fair play) got collared and a few got proper weighed in. As the OB are losing it and trying to re-gain control by steaming into us lot, you lot then try coming from behind the OB knowing we can't get to.
Now I'll be honest and say you lot were up for it and game BUT I just cannot believe the shit you lot come out with i.e 400 mancs LMFAO and we got run everywhere (still baffled). Like I said your lot obvioulsy wound up and thought you'd steam the barmies (shit happens) but when some (not all, not even close to all our firm) turned up you got run.

You certainly had a good firm and had some game lads but to say what you have above is fucking hilarious.

After the lies of last week at Holloway road tube and now this it's hard to believe a word any gooner says. Let's just hope an honest gooner can post what really happened. I reckon by next week according to gooners we had 800 and they had 75 . Also why was it that after a couple of your lot held they're hands up when they spoke to a couple of ours (strange thing to say after you'd just wasted us while being outnumbered 4-1) mmmmmmmm.
************************************************************
Police arrested 16 football fans at yesterday's FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Arsenal at Villa Park.

Cops moved in when around 100 rival fans clashed outside the stadium in Trinity Road just as the match was finishing.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “There was a clash between fans of the two rival teams but fortunately we intervened very early and parted them.

“A number of arrests were made. We have also got quite a bit of CCTV footage and will be running an inquiry as we hope to make further arrests over the next couple of weeks.”

One fan was arrested for throwing a coin onto the pitch during the game which Man Utd won 1-0.

Aston Villa vs Birmingham City - 01/04/2004

Source: Birmingham Evening News

Football hooligans who heaped shame on Birmingham were today branded "a disgrace to the city and their clubs".

Organised thugs from both Villa and Blues clashed in a sickening orgy of "extreme violence" as the clubs prepared for the first top flight fixture in 16 years.

But 11 of the Villa yobs who dragged Midland soccer through the gutter were today pondering their part in the pitched battle from behind cell doors.

The jailed men were among 24 hauled before the courts for their part in what has now been dubbed "The Battle of Rocky Lane".

They were caught on video film brandishing home-made knives, CS gas canisters, batons, and billiard balls in socks, by five police spotters on the scene as the violence erupted.

The yobs were jailed just two days after seven so called Birmingham City thugs were dealt with in the same way by the same judge. The remaining six were handed community service orders.

Crucially with the Euro 2004 Championships in Portugal just months

away, they have now been banned from football games at home and abroad for up to ten years.

One of them, , was a recognised hard-core Category C hooligan leader who had been refused entry to Japan and Belgium during football championships in 2000 and 2002 and was also kicked out of France during the 1998 World Cup.

Blues fan , jailed on Monday, had previously been convicted of another soccer-related incident eight years ago when he attacked a police officer outside Manchester City's Main Road ground.

The September night in 2002 was meant to be a night of soccer celebration - but the main hooligan firms attached to both Villa and Blues used the game as an excuse to organise their own fixture.

Their ranks were swelled by drunken yobs and former soccer thugs who had come out for one last chance to rekindle bitter rivalries with those from across the city. Up to 200 men, fuelled by alcohol, a warped sense of team support and armed with home-made knives, CS gas canisters, batons, and billiard balls in socks, were involved.

The Blues thugs were drinking in a pub in Rocky Lane, Nechells, miles from St Andrew's and their usual haunts but, crucially, less than half a mile from where Villa fans were drinking.

Shortly after 6pm, the two gangs emerged. After a short stand-off, an eight minute pitched battle exploded with around 40 yobs - egged on by the gang behind them - wading into each other, before retreating and then going back for more.

A month after the game, police mounted a series of dawn raids to round up those caught on police video of the fight in Rocky Lane. A number also handed themselves in after their pictures appeared in the Evening Mail

Valenciennes Anzin - Bourg Peronnas - 03/04/2004

Source: VA website

Since some weeks, the local ultra group, called Ultras Roisters, made a new friendship with the belgian Wolf-Side group, from La Louviere. For this game, approx 20/25 of them made the trip to Valenciennes.
Inside the stadium, these youths created troubles with 4 local skinheads who were angry about this presence.
All Valencinnes classical fans were angry about this fight, saying Belgians (some having stadiums bans) made the trip just for creating troubles.

Knives used as rival Moscow fans clash - 04/04/2004

Source: Reuters

Ten football fans were injured - some with knife wounds - when supporters of rival Moscow clubs clashed on Sunday, Russian news agencies reported.

Interfax news agency reported that three people had been taken to hospital with knife injuries after a street fight between supporters of CSKA and Spartak Moscow, widely considered the two most violent sets of supporters in Russia.

It was not clear how many fans had been involved in the clash, which broke up when police arrived.

Police said a bus with Spartak fans onboard had been blocked by a car carrying CSKA fans as it stopped for refuelling. Supporters of the army side then attacked the Spartak fans with knives and bats.

The two teams did not play against each other this weekend but fights between their fans are common.

Torquay United - Exeter City - 04/04/2004

Source : BBC News

Fourteen held near football match

Fourteen men were arrested at a pub near Torquay United's football ground on Saturday in order to prevent a breach of the peace.

The arrests took place when police found a large group of men from Exeter inside O'Connor's pub.

They were believed to be involved in football-related violence in connection with Exeter City and were taken into custody before being later released.

Police say the game between Torquay and Yeovil passed off without trouble.

The Nationwide Division Three West Country derby match was attended by a crowd of about 6,000 people.

Police say they took pre-emptive action to prevent an outbreak of violence.

Football hooligans' match ban - 07/04/2004

Source : BBC News

Twenty four football hooligans have been banned from attending their teams' matches in future.

It follows violent clashes between Port Vale and Wrexham fans outside the Racecourse ground last October.

The fans, mostly from Port Vale, admitted public order offences at a hearing at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday.

Three Wrexham fans Mark W*******, 33, Kevin B******, 38, and Jake L********, 19, admitted affray.

The three Wrexham fans and 21 Port Vale supporters will have to observe an exclusion zone around grounds where their teams are playing for between three and five years.

Judge Roger Dutton will reveal the lengths of those bans for each individual and pass sentence later on Wednesday.

Earlier, prosecutor Andrew Jebb told Mold Crown Court that trouble broke out after the game last October, which Wrexham had won 2-1.

Kevin B****** 38, who has no previous convictions, was first seen in video evidence to be near to the front of a group of Wrexham fans.

Video evidence

Describing video evidence to the court, prosecutor Andrew Jebb said: "It is obvious that the Wrexham fans have seen the Port Vale fans and are now looking for a gap in the houses so that a violent confrontation can take place.

"In his hurry to become involved, B****** barges an elderly man out of the way and then enters the alleyway where violence has started."

B****** joined a group of Wrexham fans who had surrounded and were attacking a lone Port Vale fan.

"That fan is able to escape from the attack and runs back to his own group," Mr Jebb added.

Mr Jebb said that the next video footage showed B****** and other Wrexham fans reacting to the activities of Port Vale fans who were throwing missiles.

Banning order

Interviewed, B****** said that he had drunk about eight or nine pints beforehand and did not go to the match, but spent the time at a public house not far from Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

B****** then headed to the ground after the match. Shown video footage of his behaviour, B****** said:: "What I've just seen now totally disgusts me."

The court was also shown footage of Mark W*******, 33, who had previous convictions and was in breach of a previous banning order imposed in November 2000.

He was seen making provocative gestures towards the Port Vale fans and was involved in the attack on the lone fan from the visiting club, punching him three times.

Shown the video, he admitted his part in the trouble.

Jake L******** 19, was also involved in the violence in the alleyway and threw a missile at the Port Vale fans.

L******** became involved in the group attack on a lone Port Vale fan who had become trapped in the alleyway.

A season ticket holder with Wrexham, L******** described himself in court as behaving like a hooligan.

The court heard that bricks and pieces of wood were hurled between rival fans, and possibly even garden gnomes from local gardens.

A number of Port Vale fans forced open gates at the rear of a house in Mold Road, armed themselves with pieces of brick, and began to throw missiles in an attempt to hit Wrexham fans as they left the ground.

Mr Jebb said: "It seems, amazingly, that the only person struck by a missile was a police constable who was filming at the time.

"He was struck on the helmet but fortunately was not injured."

Mr Jebb said camera footage showed many of the Port Vale group arming themselves from the skip before throwing the items at the Wrexham fans.

A large number of missiles were also thrown by the Wrexham fans, he told the court

Judge Roger Dutton was told that a further 11 people had already been dealt with by Wrexham magistrates.

All had been banned from future football matches, including one who was banned for six years and jailed for two months.

On Tuesday, the court heard evidence of what happened on that day for the judge to decide on sentences.

RC Strasbourg - Lyon - 11/04/2004

Source : AFP + local view

Riots occured Sunday evening, prior to the game, opposing fans from both teams.
Approx 150 fans from both sides fought together. Skinheads were also concerned by this fight.
The fight happened near the stadium, in front of a pub who was damaged.
Police forces made an intervention and two locals were arrested.
Finally, police forces escorted back a group of 100 Lyon fans.

Local view :

Prior to the game, approx 60 Lyon fans made their way to our pub, were we are at this time approx 40. We decided to charge them but we received many missiles. Visitors had many weapons (firecrackers, batons and a knive) and we retreated. Lyon fans charged us and damaged our pub. What a pitty action as 'normal' fans were inside this pub.
Before this action, we were 30 when we called Lyon fans to went out their coach but they refused.

Rome derby rescheduled for April 21 - 13/04/2004

Source: Reuters

The derby match between Lazio and AS Roma, abandoned last month due to crowd trouble, will be replayed on April 21, the prefect of Rome said on Tuesday.
The game on March 21 was abandoned three minutes into the second half when a false rumour that a young boy had been killed by a police car sparked violent clashes between fans and police outside the Olympic Stadium.

Last week the prefect over-ruled an Italian Football League decision to replay the game on April 14.

Italian media had reported that the authorities wanted a full check on security at the stadium before going ahead with the fixture.

Roma currently stand second in Serie A, nine points behind leaders AC Milan. Lazio lie sixth and are challenging for a place in next season's Champions League.

Feyenoord Rotterdam - Ajax Amsterdam - 11/04/2004

Source: forums

"The police of Rotterdam have arrested 53 Hooligans before and after the match. It all started at saturday night when the feyeoord hools waited for the ajax hools because they normally paint on the walls at the stadium but this year the didn't come. Better for them i think !!!
Then on sunday the day of the game. Before the match the hools of Feyenoord tried to get to the train with
supporters of Ajax. The police kept the Feyenoord Hools away from the Ajaxtrain.
The Feyenoord Hools trowed with bombs and bottles and some stones. A few Feyenoord hools were arrested by police and undercover policemen. After that the violence before the match was over. During the game there was only singing to eachother and throwing firework and flares on the pitch. After Ajax scored 0-1 the people of Feyenoord got more agressive. When Feyenoord scored the 1-1 a supporter trowed a flare on the pitch. Then the police and security tried to arrest him but other feyenoord supporters helped him and so another clash with the police followed. At the final wistle of the game a group of 500 hools run out of the stadium to the surroounding area of the stadium to attack the police. A few police men were hit down. The feyenoord Hools trowed with stones and bombs and other things. A group of undercover agents were noticed and the feyenoord hools attacked them. Other police had to make a few charges to get the Feyenoord hools away. Then the Feyenoord hools ren to the front of the stadium and attacked the train of Ajaxsupporters with i think 1000 hools. The police had to ran away! The Feyenoord Hools trowed with stones and pipes
and firebombs ! Then the police make a few charges while the Feyenoord hools kept going on with throwing stones !! Later a group of three undercover agents were attacked by about 100 hools of feyenoord and the decided to get their gun to safe themselves. Then a few seconds there was confusion at the site of feyenoord and they decided to go home and leave it like this !! Because it was enough! This was a good sample of a real Feyenoord - Ajax"
