Luton Town - Kidderminster Harriers - 01/04/2013

Source : http://www.expressandstar.com

Kidderminster Harriers fan stabbed as supporters' coach attacked

A football fan from Kidderminster was stabbed and another taken to hospital after the coach they were on was attacked.

The two men, aged 38 and 39, were treated in hospital after the attack which was described as ‘deplorable’ by supporters.

The injured Kidderminster Harriers fans were among five bus-loads of supporters travelling away from Luton Town FC’s ground following the game between the two sides.

As the coaches waited in traffic around a mile from the Kenilworth Road ground, police said an argument started between Kidderminster fans on the last coach and “local residents”, not believed to be Luton supporters.

Some supporters got off the coach to confront the group and fighting broke out.

A fight broke out on the street, leaving the two Kidderminster fans injured.

The 38-year-old suffered two cuts to his chest and remains in hospital today, while the 39-year-old, who had a cut to his head, was discharged late last night.

Three men from the Luton area, aged 19, 21 and 40 and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of affray and assault. They were in custody today being questioned by detectives.

Steve Millington, chairman of the Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters Trust, said: “The attack on the coach is deplorable and there’s no place for that in football or society in general. Our thoughts are with the people injured and we hope for a speedy recovery for them.”

Kidderminster Harriers issued a statement saying the matter was now in police hands.

They continued: “It would be inappropriate to comment specifically on the incident in question as it has now officially become a police matter. If necessary we will do so once any investigation is completed. More broadly speaking, the football club in no way whatsoever condones any act of violence or aggression and wishes to extend its best wishes for a speedy recovery to anyone who came to harm on Monday.”

The fans were travelling on a coach laid on by Stourport-based operator Coniston Coaches.

Argentina : San Lorenzo keeper Pablo Migliore remains in jail - 01/04/2013

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk

The goalkeeper of Argentine first division club San Lorenzo has appeared in court in Buenos Aires, after being arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting an alleged murderer.

Pablo Migliore has refused to testify and will remain in jail.

Migliore's lawyer, Matias Morla, reaffirmed his client's innocence and said he would wait until Wednesday to request his release.

Migliore, 31, was arrested when he came off the pitch on Sunday.

"The crime he is charged with allows for his release," said Mr Morla.

"The next 48 hours will be crucial. We will then need to wait for a decision by the judge, which could take 10 days. In the meantime, he will remain in prison," said Mr Morla.

Hooligans

Mr Migliore, who played for Boca Juniors until 2008, is suspected of aiding Maximiliano Mazzaro, a member of a group of hardcore Boca Juniors fans.

Police are searching for Mr Mazzaro on suspicion of murder.

Prosecutors say he is a leading member of a notorious Boca Juniors "barra brava", a group of supporters which has in the past been linked to hooliganism and violent behaviour.

Mr Mazzaro is wanted in connection with the 2011 death of 56-year-old Ernesto Cirino, who died of injuries sustained during a beating in a neighbourhood row.

Police suspect Mr Mazzaro and two other leading members of the supporters group of carrying out the attack.

They say they have evidence linking Mr Mazzaro, who is on the run from them, to Mr Migliore.

San Lorenzo Club President Matias Lammens said Mr Migliore had been surprised by his arrest just minutes after Sunday's game at San Lorenzo's Pedro Bidegain stadium against Newell's Old Boys.

"He wasn't expecting this; we'll ask for his release and the club will respect his contract," Mr Lammens said.

England : Four arrested after football coach violence released on bail - 03/04/2013

Source : http://www.bedfordshire-news.co.uk

POLICE have confirmed that the four people who were arrested by officers following disorder on Monday afternoon, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives launched an investigation in to an affray that happened in Dunstable Road close to the junction of Mansfield Road, following a football match between Luton Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

It is believed Kidderminster football fans had been sitting in traffic in one of five coaches having left the Luton Town Football ground in Kenilworth Road when an argument between the fans on the bus and locals began.

Some fans left the bus and a fight broken out on the street leaving two men, aged 39 and 38 years, requiring hospital treatment.

Both men were not seriously injured; the 39 year old suffered a cut to his head and was released after treatment; the 38 year old suffered two cuts to his chest and remained in hospital overnight for observations.

Three men aged 19, 21 and 40 and a juvenile aged 16 had been arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.

Atlético Mineiro (Brazil) - Arsenal de Sarandí (Argentina) - Copa Libertadores - 04/04/2013

Source : http://sports.yahoo.com + http://www.ole.com.ar + http://www.desafio2020fpf.com

Atletico Mineiro's 5-2 victory over Arsenal in the Libertadores Cup was marred by fighting between members of the Argentine team and Brazilian military police on the pitch at the end of the match on Wednesday.

Brazilian police, who have a reputation of taking to the pitch at the slightest hint of trouble, were quick to use force to control angry Arsenal players who had confronted the match officials at the final whistle, including pointing guns at them.

However, Minas Gerais police lieutenant colonel Cicero defended his men's actions.

"It was criminal conduct, out of place at a football match. (The Argentines) could be arrested," he was quoted as saying on the Globo internet portal (globoesporte.globo.com).

Sedan and Utrecht lads walked in Lens with about 50 of them.
Both sides met up near Bollaert stadium for a 50/50 confrontation. Unfortunately, Dutch were with blades and at least one iron baton.
It was a short fight because police used rubber bullets.
Both sides tried to confront again but another time with weapons on dutch side.

Portuguese football cop beats Newcastle United fan, aged SEVEN, with riot baton

The youngster was one of 3,500 Toon Army supporters penned in after the final whistle in Lisbon on Thursday following the game against Benfica

A seven-year-old football fan was allegedly hit with a steel baton by a Portuguese cop at a Europa League game, the Sunday People has reported.

The lad was one of 3,500 Newcastle United supporters penned in after the final whistle in Lisbon on Thursday.

As tempers rose at the delay, mobile phone footage captured the moment one cop in full riot gear began swinging his baton at fans – some children.

The film shows the lad fall backwards from the blow before being quickly surrounded by protective adult fans.

One shouts, “He’s a f****** child, man”, another points to his head to indicate where the boy was hit and boos erupt.

Other riot officers waded in after the cop appeared to react to being touched on the head.

Newcastle fan Jimmy Archer, 47, said: “They were whacking everybody at random. I got hit twice and all I had said was, ‘Stop’.

“After we’d left the ground people talked of a young lad being hit. It was crazy. It all ended as soon as it began and there’d been no reason for it. Nobody was throwing punches or anything.”

Fan Michael Lowdon said: “The police took no account of the fact we were penned in.

“There was pushing going on and I think the police just snapped and brought out the batons. It was really scary.”

It is thought the unidentified boy went with his dad to the game against Benfica, which Newcastle lost 3-1.

After the match away fans were allowed to swap scarves and shirts with Benfica supporters but were then kept back by police.

Later, fans of the Premier League club went on social network sites to tell of the attack. One claimed he witnessed the lad being hit.

Newcastle United said: “We encourage the boy’s father to make a formal complaint to the Portuguese police.”

Match commander Valente Pinho said: “We sent officers in to avoid any trouble between fans. I think we did it well.”

3000 Celtic fans protest ‘disproportionate’ Green Brigade policing - 06/04/2013

Source : http://local.stv.tv/

Three thousand football fans have rallied in Glasgow to protest what they claim are "disproportionate" measures to crack down on hate crime.

The Fans Against Criminalisation group is concerned that legislation passed by MSPs more than a year ago created problems for ordinary supporters.

The Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act gives police and prosecutors new powers to tackle sectarian songs and abuse at and around football matches, as well as threats posted on the internet or through the mail.

The Act created two distinct offences, punishable through a range of penalties up to a maximum five years in prison and an unlimited fine.

The rally was held at George Square between noon and 1.30pm on Saturday. Police had initially cautioned attendees against forming a procession, an event for which they had not secured a permit. However, after the demonstration Police Scotland said it was "delighted" by the conduct of the protesters.

Chief Superintendent Andy Bates, Divisional Commander for Greater Glasgow Division, said: "Approximately 3000 people participated in the rally at George Square today.

“There was no disorder and no arrests and I am delighted by the way in which those who took part conducted themselves.

"As always when dealing with large crowds dispersing from an event, it is inevitable that there will be some disruption to traffic.

“That said, I am pleased this was kept to a minimum and the people who took part in today's rally adhered to the pre-planned dispersal routes.

"When planning for a day like today, we have to strike a balance between protecting people's right to peaceful protest whilst ensuring that the city continues to operate with the minimum of disruption to the people who live and work here.

“I believe we achieved just that."

A Scottish Government spokesman said: "The vast majority of football fans are well behaved and have an excellent relationship with the police. The police are there to protect fans from the tiny minority whose behaviour spoils the game and we welcome the fact that today's demonstration has been a peaceful one."

The spokesman said the legislation was "working well", with an 87% charge rate and 83% conviction rate for those arrested. He added: "Tackling bigotry and hatred isn't just about legislation, but about wider action to help bring communities together.

"That's why the Scottish Government announced £9m over three years to support a wide range of projects across Scotland which are tackling sectarianism."

Fans Against Criminalisation — which describes itself as "an independent umbrella group comprising the Green Brigade, Celtic Trust, Celtic Supporters Association, Affiliation of Registered Celtic Supporters Clubs and Association of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs" — claims the Act has led to "heavy-handed" policing.

It follows a Glasgow demonstration held by the Green Brigade in March which fans felt was improperly policed, with some accusing the now-defunct Strathclyde Police of "harassment".

South Africa: Kaizer Chiefs - Golden Arrows - 06/04/2013

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk/

Fan in South Africa tries to hit referee with vuvuzela

A supporter attempted to strike a referee with a large vuvuzela at a key South African premier league match on Saturday.
The fan evaded security and ran at least 100 metres from the side of the pitch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, one of the venues for the 2010 World Cup, swinging the plastic trumpet at referee Lwandile Mfiki but missing him.
A second fan of Kaizer Chiefs, the country's most popular club, was intercepted after also hurdling on to the pitch from the stands.
The incident came after the referee had sent off Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane for a dangerous tackle in the first half of a vital match as Kaizer Chiefs bid for a first league title in eight years.
It sparked protests from the players and a heated exchange of words between the two benches.
Both fans were arrested and league officials told Reuters after the game that they will be charged with assault. The referee, who gave a post-match statement to police, was not injured.
Ten-man Chiefs, coached by former Finland manager Stuart Baxter, drew 0-0 against Golden Arrows to maintain their lead at the top of the table.
Vuvuzelas earned worldwide notoriety for the noisy backdrop they provided at the World Cup in South Africa.
While they continue to be popular with the country's football fans, they have been banned from some stadiums elsewhere in the world.
On Wednesday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, vuvuzuelas were among an assortment of objects thrown at Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa by angry fans after his side could only draw and missed out on the chance to close the gap with the Chiefs.
Defending champions Pirates are eight points behind their rivals but have two games in hand with five weeks of the campaign left.

England : Police looking to identify fans after disorder at Bristol Rovers v Oxford United - 08/04/2013

Source : http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk

POLICE are looking to speak to seven football fans in connection with serious disorder at Bristol Rovers’ clash with Oxford United last month.

Thames Valley Police has released these images following disturbances at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford, on Saturday February 9, when 33 people were arrested.

Area commander, superintendent Christian Bunt, said a post-match investigation is expected to result in further arrests and banning orders over the clashes.

"We are releasing the images of these men as we would like to speak to them in connection with the disorder at the game and appeal directly to the men, or anyone who knows them, to contact us,” he said

"There is currently an ongoing post-match investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding what happened at the game between Oxford United and Bristol Rovers.

"There was a large scale policing and stewarding operation on the day to ensure the safety of the wider public and the vast number of supporters who came to enjoy the game and as a result of our team working closely with the Oxford United club staff, we have been able to carry out the arrests so far, and further arrests are also expected.

"We are reviewing witness evidence, footage taken by police and CCTV to identify anyone who took part in the disorder and will work with partners to prosecute people who have committed offences."

"The disorder experienced at this football match is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it. We will be working with partners to seek football banning orders for all those charged with any offences."

Those arrested so far, all on suspicion of public order offences, have been released on bail until early next month.

The 10 people arrested outside a basketball stadium in northern Athens on Sunday while in the possession of Molotov cocktails, pepper spray and clubs were Panathinaikos fans who intended to ambush supporters of AEK, police sources said on Monday.
