Scotland : Hamilton football hooligans avoid prison - 24/04/2013
Source : http://www.scotsman.com
A GANG of football hooligans who fought rival fans in a busy retail park as horrified families looked on escaped a jail sentence yesterday.
The violent bust-up unfolded at New Douglas Retail Park in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, between two rival groups of supporters one following Hamilton Academical and the other Dundee Football Club.
Two gangs of up to 30 “casuals” ran riot, attacked each other and even spat at disgusted onlookers.
Shaun Murray, 27, Liam Fullerton, 18, Daniel Weir, 21, Jamie Gilchrist, 29, all Dundee, and Joseph Roeves, 19, from Hamilton, were on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court last month.
They had denied fighting and causing fear and alarm on the day of a Scottish First Division match on 3 December, 2011.
A jury found them guilty but yesterday they walked free from court after Sheriff Ray Small ordered each of them to perform 250 hours of unpaid work. A 13-day trial had heard how shoppers and young children were forced to run into shops for cover as the violent encounter unfolded.
Sales manager Sean Bicknell, 28, described how trouble broke out when the gangs clashed near the football ground.
He said: “It was mayhem. I would describe it as a large-scale disorder. It wasn’t just one-on-one fights going on. It was four on one. My impression was it was an organised event.”

Fans and police hurt in mass fight in Bosnia - 24/04/2013
Source : http://sports.yahoo.com
Sixteen supporters and seven police officers were injured, two of them seriously, in a mass fight on Wednesday when fans of rival football clubs clashed in a central Bosnian village while heading to first division matches.
The police detained 62 of around 120 supporters of rival clubs Borac Banja Luka and Zeljeznicar Sarajevo who took part in a brawl in the village of Oborci, where they stopped on their way to different matches, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday.
Three supporters of Zeljeznicar were seriously injured and taken to hospital in Sarajevo, two of them with life-threatening head injuries. Six other supporters were admitted to a hospital in the central town of Travnik.
"One man was operated on and is still in intensive care but stable and conscious for now," Biljana Jandric, a Sarajevo hospital spokeswoman, told Reuters. The other one's life was not at risk, and the third one was released from hospital, she said.
The seven injured police officers were at the Travnik hospital, a spokeswoman for the central Bosnian regional police told Reuters.
Zeljeznicar fans were heading to the northwestern town of Prijedor for the match with Rudar and Borac supporters were on their way to Sarajevo where their club was taking on Olimpik Sarajevo.
Both convoys of supporters were escorted by local police but they could not stop the fight and had to ask for help from special police forces, the police spokeswoman said, adding that several vans were completely destroyed.
Hooligan violence is a common problem in Bosnia, reflecting ethnic divisions still running deep between the Balkan country's Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) after the 1992-95 war.
Borac is based in Bosnia's autonomous Serb Republic and Zeljeznicar in the Federation dominated by Bosniaks and Croats. Their fans have a long history of violent clashes.

Bulgaria : Levski Sofia fined for fan racism and violence - 23/04/2013
Source : http://sports.yahoo.com
Levski Sofia were fined 42,500 levs ($28,292) by the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) on Tuesday after fan racism and violence marred their 2-1 league win at Litex Lovech on Saturday.
The BFU fined the 26-times Bulgarian champions 37,500 levs for racist abuse after their fans displayed one banner showing a swastika and another one marking what would have been Adolf Hitler's birthday.
The Sofia-based club were fined another 5,000 levs after supporters threw flares, fireworks and other objects.
"Levski and the national fan club distances itself from the actions of a small group of fans that raised banners during the match against Litex Lovech," the club said in a statement.
"We categorically declare that we'll not allow the football club and everyone who loves Levski to suffer in the future because of a handful of people."
Levski matches have a history of racism.
The Blues were fined 30,000 euros ($39,200) by UEFA for racism during a Europa League match in September but surprisingly escaped any sanction by the BFU when their Guinea-Bissau striker Bazile De Carvalho was racially abused by fans and stewards in August.
Levski are second in the standings with 52 points from 23 matches, two points behind champions Ludogorets.
Lowly Minyor Pernik have been ordered to play their next two home matches at a neutral ground following crowd trouble during their league game against Ludogorets on Sunday.
It is the second stadium ban for the Pernik-based side, who are 14th in the table, this season. Minyor were given a three-match ban following fan violence during their game against Lokomotiv Sofia in August.
The BFU also fined Minyor 11,000 levs for the ugly incidents, in which a policeman was kicked by a fan while another supporter encroached on to the athletics track surrounding the pitch to protest against the referee's decisions.

Three Millwall fans arrested in dramatic dawn raids over hooliganism as police release 17 pictures of 'yobs' they want to trace - 23/04/2013
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/
Police have arrested three men in dawn raids today over violence at the FA Cup semi-final match between Millwall and Wigan at Wembley Stadium earlier this month. One of the crown jewels of the English football calendar was marred when fights erupted among the Lions supporters, leaving some fans with bloodied noses and younger ones weeping as they watched fans and officers clash. Scotland Yard said this morning the men, aged 21, 22 and 27, were arrested at addresses in London by officers from Operation Arrowtip, which targets football-related crime.
So far 23 people have been arrested in relation to violence at the semi-final, during which Millwall fans attacked police and fought among themselves inside and outside the ground. Violence escalated after Wigan scored their winning goal on Saturday April 13, with television pictures showing police heavily outnumbered and defending themselves with batons.

Following Kidderminster - Stockport - 20/04/2013
Source : http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/
Football fan charged after a player was punched when crowd trouble erupted during Stockport's last game of the season at Kidderminster
Fans invaded the pitch midway through the second half. Stockport went onto lose the game 4-0 and were relegated for a third time in four years.
A football fan has been charged with common assault after a player was punched during a pitch invasion at Stockport County's match with Kidderminster Harriers.
Police say the man, who is in his 20s and was among visiting Stockport supporters, was arrested, charged and bailed following the incident.
He is due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on May 9, West Mercia Police said.
A statement posted on the constabulary's website added that the man - who has not been named - is banned from attending football matches in the mean time.
The match - which saw Stockport County relegated from the Blue Square Bet Conference after losing 4-0 - had to be suspended for around half an hour after some Hatters fans climbed over a fence and on to the pitch at the Aggborough ground after County went 1-0 down.
Kidderminster player Lee Vaughan was apparently punched during the melee before police and stewards managed to restore order.
West Mercia Police are working with officers from Greater Manchester Police to try and identify fans involved in the trouble.
Referee Michael Bull took the players from the field and they only returned 30 minutes later once order had been restored.
More than 1,500 away fans had travelled to the Aggborough Stadium to watch a game that Stockport had to win to have a chance of beating relegation from the Blue Square Conference.
Kidderminster went on to win the game 4-0, although it was not enough for them to gain promotion to the Football League with Mansfield earning that right following their defeat of Wrexham.
For Stockport, it meant relegation to Blue Square North.
Kidderminstrer chairman Mark Serrell blamed "a very, very small minority" of travelling fans for spoiling the occasion.
He told the club's official website: "Our fans acted terrifically and I have to congratulate the vast majority of Stockport County supporters who behaved magnificently in difficult circumstances.
"They treated the day and the occasion with tremendous respect and it is just unfortunate that one or two caused issues and problems."
He added: "Our stewards and police have worked tremendously hard today and indeed all of this week while we've been having regular meetings.
"Yes, of course we will address any ways in which we might be able to improve but that is perfectly natural."Intelligence from Stockport going into the game was that there was no substantial risk of trouble - these people are experts in their field and gather that information well.
"You put all of that to one side and, unfortunately, you cannot legislate for the mentality of a very, very small minority."
Stockport chief executive Ryan McKnight felt Harriers should be held accountable.
He told the Daily Mail: "They [Kidderminster] are totally to blame.
The game should have been all ticket and it wasn't policed inside the ground."
Stockport fan Charlotte Perry, who had travelled to Kidderminster to watch the game, said it was a minority of fans that had caused trouble and that the majority were well-behaved.
"It's absolutely disgraceful and an embarrassment for the majority of County fans," she said.
"A minority of about 50 fans leapt over the barriers after the goal.
They had been stood at the bottom of the stand for the whole game.
"They should ban the lot of them.
"The Kidderminster fans were clapping the rest of the County fans, who were urging them to clear the pitch."
Results elsewhere meant that Stockport would be relegated any way.
M.E.N. reporter Gavin Browne, who was at the game, said the travelling fans pleaded with the trouble makers to clear the pitch.
"Stockport fans behind the goal fans sang 'Sit down if you love County' and were applauded by the home fans," he said.
A capacity crowd of 6,453 were at the stadium with the home side hoping to gain promotion to the Football League.
The incident comes at the end of a week in which football hooliganism has again been a major talking point. Millwall fans fought among themselves during last Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Wigan at Wembley while Newcastle supporters were involved in incidents with police after their team were beaten 3-0 by Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby.

Inter fined £38,000 after racial abuse of Spurs' Adebayor during Europa League tie - 26/04/2013
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk
Inter Milan have been fined 45,000 euros (around £37,900) for 'the improper conduct of their fans' during the Europa League tie against Tottenham on March 14 in which striker Emmanuel Adebayor was racially abused.
Adebayor, who scored in the second leg tie in the San Siro as Tottenham progressed on away goals, and his team-mates were the victims of abuse by Inter fans waving an inflatable banana.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas implored UEFA to act after the match, which Spurs lost 4-1, pointing out Inter's black record for such incidents.
Inter were fined only £43,000 by Serie A officials after former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli was racially abused during February's Milan derby and Villas-Boas pleaded with UEFA to hand out a more severe punishment this time.
Earlier in the season Lazio were also fined for racist chanting in their Group J tie at White Hart Lane in September and were reprimanded again for racist behaviour in November's return game.

Crystal Palace fans arrested in South Norwood
FOOTBALL fans were arrested on a coach in South Norwood on Saturday morning, which was taking Crystal Palace supporters to today's match against Blackburn.
Officers from Operation Arrowtip stopped the coach at around 8am in South Norwood Hill and arrested one man on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs.
A second man was arrested under the Explosives Act for possession of pyrotechnics and was also believed to be in possession of Class A drugs.
Both men were taken to a south London police station, where they remain in custody.
A lock knife was seized, together with five bin-bags of beer, cider, wine and spirits.
The driver of the coach, which did not continue on its journey, has been reported under the Sporting Events Act (1985).
Metropolitan Police officers working on Operation Arrowtip tackle individuals and groups who commit football related criminality and disorder.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes, head of Operation Arrowtip, said: "We can only stamp out football disorder and criminality by working together with the clubs, the Football Association and the fans themselves.
"We have to ensure that all groups in society can go and watch football without the fear of violence or abuse."
