Police inquiry into Cefn Druids match brawl with Caernarfon

The incident happened as Wrexham team Cefn Druids AFC were losing 7-0 at home to Caernarfon Town FC on Saturday.

Police said a number of people were involved in the incident. They want any supporters who filmed the incident on mobile phones to get in touch.

Both clubs, who play in the Huws Grays Alliance, said they would not comment while awaiting the referee's report.

The incident took place at the Cefn Druids home ground, The Rock.

Supt Gareth Evans said: "We share the disappointment of law abiding fans present at the match where violence broke out.

"An investigation is under way and I would like to thank the fans yesterday who assisted officers with establishing what had occurred.

"Anyone who directly witnessed or were the subject of any threats or violence should contact us on 101 if they have not already done so.

"Similarly, if you recorded what happened on a mobile phone please get in touch. It is clear there were a number of people involved.

"The investigation will look at all aspects of the incident and I ask for patience while officers work through this information, speak to witnesses and view CCTV and mobile phone footage."

The Football Association of Wales did not have any comment to make.

Police appeal for witnesses after Leamington FC fan punched by Redditch teenager at Southern League Premier play-off semi-final match

POLICE are appealing for information after a teenager punched a fan at a match in Valley Stadium, Redditch.

Redditch United played Leamington FC at the stadium in Bromsgrove Road in the Southern League Premier play-off semi final on Wednesday, April 27.

The game went to penalties and after Leamington won, a small minority of fans invaded the pitch.

A Redditch teenager is then believed to have entered the playing field and attacked the Lemington fan, punching him in the face and pushing him to the ground.

Officers are urging the victim, who left the field while police were dealing with this incident, to come forward.

The offender was voluntarily interviewed and is currently assisting police with their enquires.

During the game there were reports of some minor problems between Redditch and Leamington fans near to the Cedar Road stand resulting in security staff being employed in this area.

After the match approximately 30 fans of each side were in the roadway between the ground and Bromsgrove Road goading each other, resulting in 15 police officers being deployed to the area to prevent any potential problems.

A police spokesman said "It is clear that a small minority of spectators were intent on causing disorder on the night and due to the good planning of both clubs this has been well managed.

"The police have acted and intervened when needed and it is sad that the minority have spoilt the enjoyment for the majority of fans watching a fantastic game of football.

"The police will be reviewing CCTV and will work with both clubs to ensure we deal with any criminal offences that have occurred during the night.

"We would appeal to anyone who has any video footage or witnessed any incidents during the game to contact the police."

PAOK refuse to play Cup semi-fnal amid calls for deeper clean of Greek football - 29/04/2016

Source : http://www.insideworldfootball.com

Despite a solution seemingly having been reached between Greek authorities and FIFA to resume the national cup competition and prevent Greece being thrown out of international football, PAOK Salonica owner Ivan Savvidis pulled his team out of this week’s semi-final, second leg against Olympiakos Piraeus because his conditions had not been met.

Earlier this month, the threat of an international ban on Greece was lifted after an 11th-hour agreement was reached to restart the domestic cup competition.

Greece had been given a 10-day ultimatum to stop government interference in its footballing affairs or risk a worldwide ban after refusing to reinstate the cup competition, scrapped by the authorities in March because of crowd trouble.

The tournament was called off after the first leg of the semi-final between PAOK and Olympiakos on March 2 was abandoned due to a pitch invasion.

New legislation would have allowed the government to impose fines ranging from €10,000 to €25 million for violent incidents, order the postponement or cancellation of sporting events and even prohibit teams from playing in European competition but the legislation would breach strict rules on government interference in football.

FIFA gave the Greeks until April 15 to reverse the decision and a compromise seemed to have been reached to play behind closed doors. But Savvidis had warned that he would not bring his team to Athens for the second leg unless a foreign referee was appointed and Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) president Giorgos Girtzikis resigned.

After carrying out his threat, Olympiakos, already awarded a 3-0 win after the first leg, have now been given another 3-0 victory and will meet AEK Athens on May 7 in the final at the Olympic Stadium.

“Believe me, this decision was not easy,” Savvidis said in a statement. “Our declaration to not participate further in the competition following the unprecedented lawlessness at our Toumba stadium two months ago began an irreversible process for the cleansing of Greek football, and I’m glad PAOK is playing a leading role in this movement.”

Having already been fined €100,000, docked three points from next season’s Greek Super League and ordered to play three matches behind closed doors following the first-leg trouble, PAOK now seem likely to incur further punishment for not showing up in Piraeus.

But a defiant Savvidis said he was prepared to make sacrifices if it meant a healthier landscape for Greek football. “Greek football is experiencing a deep crisis – healthy and fair forces are fighting against a well-organised and corrupt system,” he said.

“We must unite our efforts and show the need to protect the value of sports in this country because justice and dignity are above the interests of any particular club. In this struggle sometimes there will be losses, and PAOK are ready to sacrifice.”

England : Notts County's 'emerging' hooligan firm sparks warning - 20/04/2016

Source : http://www.bbc.com

One of the Football League's founding clubs has an "emerging" hooligan firm, a police force has warned.

Nottinghamshire Police said it would be increasing police activity after gathering intelligence on Notts County followers all season.

The news comes after three people were charged following trouble at County's 5-0 defeat at Mansfield on Saturday.

The club said it did not "condone the behaviour of a very small minority" of supporters at the Mansfield match.

Nottinghamshire Police believe a gang of "about 60 to 80" hooligans is targeting Notts County matches.

'Emerging group'

Supt Mark Holland, who is head of football policing in Nottinghamshire, said he had been concerned about the group for some time.

"We've been monitoring this all season and there is definitely an emerging group there," he said.

"There's about 60 to 80 'supporters' who have been attending away games, causing problems and disorder.

"We don't police more than 50% of the games in Nottinghamshire, but we've been attending all Notts County games in an intelligence-gathering capacity.

"They're trying to get themselves established, but we've arrested quite a few of them, we've gathered quite a bit of intelligence and there'll be further action to come."

Formed in 1862, Notts County is considered to be the oldest professional football team in the world and was one of 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888.

Saturday's arrests at the League Two match at Mansfield were for possession of a firework/flare at a sporting event, being drunk at a sports ground and accessing the pitch.

Three men were charged and have been bailed to appear in court next month.
