England : Police searching for Millwall fans after stewards assaulted during Oxford United match - 04/04/2016
Source : http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/
Thames Valley police have released CCTV images of six Millwall fans after stewards were assaulted during the Oxford United match.
Officers want to speak to fans, who were all seated in the Millwall section of the crowd during the away match at Kassam Stadium on February 2.
Police say the six men might hold vital information about the disorder which occurred during half time.
Operation Brazil has been set up by Thames Valley to investigate the clash between fans and stewards.
Leading the investigation, Sergeant James Blackmore, said: "This operation sends out a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour at football matches in the Thames Valley.
"We will proactively arrest and deal robustly with anyone causing disorder, it is irrelevant which team they are there to support. A large number of arrests have already been made within this investigation."
Sgt Blackmore added: "Football should be accessible to all and there is no place for these so called supporters to ruin it for everyone else.
"I would appeal to the men in these images, or anyone who might know them to come forward as we believe they might have information about an affray that happened during half time during this game.
"During the incident a number of stewards were assaulted."

England : 'As violent as ever' Brawls, racism and abuse of footie thugs on trains last year REVEALED - 04/04/2016
Source : http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/
BOOZED-UP footie thugs are “just as violent” as in the 1980s with shocking fights, racism and verbal abuse on trains last year revealed by a senior ex-cop.
Spitting mobs hurled abuse at disabled children and women in burkas, while clashing weekly with cops and rail staff.
Ex-Supt Michael Layton, formerly of British Transport Police, has lifted the lid on the £4m battle cops fight every year on the railways.
In just three months there were 276 incidents on trains, including one where a yob spat in the face of an officer.
Mr Layton says it is false to think the battle with hooliganism has been won and fears the political focus on tackling it has been lost.
He has also spoken of the terror cops face in policing hundreds of fans during a journey where there is no escape.
Mr Layton recently co-wrote Tracking the Hooligans with ex-colleague Alan Pacey, in which he listed examples of train violence in 2015.
He said: "I think there still a big issue to be resolved. I am not trying to sensationalise the issue.
"We still know that violent acts go on because of social media and websites for football violence. They upload videos every week.
"The organised elements to it are still there.
"What has changed is there are far fewer arrests at grounds now, and police intelligence structures for dealing with hooligans are better."
Mr Layton joined the police at 16 and worked on trains in the early 1970s before returning to BTP as a commander in the early 2000s.
He described the ordeal of handling carriages full of footie fans and said the situation is largely the same today.
"It is a very long, narrow, stretched thin line," he said.
"You can have six officers with several hundred fans and if you want back-up you have to wait 30 minutes before you get to the next station.
"It times it is about survival. Officers have to survive the best they can in that time.
"When I was on a train in the early 70s from Smethwick to Coventry. I was 19 and had one section to police.
"Trouble started and things were being smashed, and we were totally on our own.
"It was 20 minutes of hell. I remember the issue was if I got my truncheon out of my pocket it would show them that I was frightened.
"I was frightened but I thought if I get it out, there's a good chance they could end up using it on me."
The problem is far from confined to the glitz and glamour of the Premier League.
Of the four worst offending clubs between 2012 and 2014, only Manchester United, with 36 incidents, are in the top flight.
Championship sides Leeds United (77), Birmingham City (40) and Nottingham Forest (35) were the other serial offenders.
Incidents last year include:
A Forest fan punched a Sheffield Wednesday fan several times in the head on January 10, in full view of a BTP cop, and was later banned from matches for six years.
Seven days later, 150 Birmingham City fans scrapped at Wakefield station after a match with Leeds, hurling bottles at police before being put on a train.
On January 24, a fan exposed himself to distressed passengers in Derby after an FA Cup tie, before his mates tore off his underwear.
The next Saturday, Wolves fans at Bolton smashed the inside of their train up during a confrontation with opposing fans on the platform.
West Ham and Chelsea fans both were reported for anti-Semitic chants, with Blues fans hitting national headlines when they shoved a black man off a Metro train in Paris before a Champions League tie.
BTP said last year it has dealt with 15 racist incidents involving Chelsea fans since 2012.
At the end of February, West Brom and Southampton fans clashed, with two 52-year-old men assaulted, one receiving a double fractured jaw, and the other a cut and black eye.
Chelsea fans again sparked outrage on a train after their League Cup final with Spurs, chanting racist abuse, forcing one black passenger to move carriages, and leaving two Asian girls in tears after questioning why there were not wearing burkas.
On Monday, April 6, a non-league match was the precursor for violence, when 200 Grimsby fans ran amok at Sheffield station before a game with Alfreton.
Two BTP cops were punched and kicked as glasses were smashed on the road outside.
Twelve fans verbally abused a disabled boy on a train from London to Stoke on April 11, forcing some scared passengers to leave the train early.
On April 25, racial abuse was hurled at a four-year-old child on a service from Leeds to Bradford Forster Square, forcing the tot and their family off the train at Shipley.
A Bradford City fan was also responsible for head-butting a member of rail staff on April 3, knocking out two of his front teeth.
The incidents make it clear why a chapter of Tracking the Hooligans concludes with: “Football violence on the rail network is alive and well.
A BTP spokesman said: "All crime and antisocial behaviour on the rail network will be taken seriously by BTP and we will always look to take robust action against those who harass, intimate or assault passengers and staff.”

FIFA could ban Greece from international football - 05/04/2016
Source : http://www.cbc.ca/
FIFA says Greece is facing expulsion from international football over a government decision to suspend the country's cup competition because of fan violence.
Sports Minister Stavros Kontonis called off the Greek Cup last month following violence at a semifinal match between PAOK and league champion Olympiakos. PAOK fans threw flares and clashed with riot police on the field.
In a letter to Kontonis on Tuesday, FIFA described the action as "disproportionate and as interference in the internal affairs" of the Greek soccer association, and issued a 10-day deadline to reverse the decision.

Croatian police detain around 100 Serbian basketball fans - 07/04/2016
Source : http://www.usatoday.com
Croatian police say they have detained around 100 basketball fans from neighboring Serbia, many of whom were carrying pyrotechnic devices.
Police said Serbian fans were detained Friday in the capital Zagreb hours ahead of the match between Red Star Belgrade and host team Cedevita.
Sports matches between Serbian and Croatian teams are usually high-risk events because of the tensions stemming from the 1992-95 war which erupted after the breakup of the former Yugoslav federation.

England : Police release pictures of fans they wish to speak to following Manchester United and Liverpool violence - 07/04/2016
Source : http://www.mirror.co.uk/
Scuffles broke out during the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round match at Old Trafford on Thursday, March 17
Police have appealed for help to find nine men they wish to speak to in connection with an incident at a Europa League match.
At least one child was injured by a seat torn from the stands as scuffles broke out during the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round match between Liverpool and Manchester United on Thursday, March 17.
Before the final whistle, punches were thrown in the East Stand as the two sets of fans clashed.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have now released nine images of men they wish to speak to in connection with the disorder.
DC Stephen Warriner said: “Football is a family event and the appalling violence that occurred that evening will not be tolerated by the clubs, the police or by the vast majority of supporters.
"A young child was hurt as a result of these mindless thugs, who paid absolutely no regard to the safety of those around them."
A number of incidents also occurred before and after the match, which has sparked a full investigation by GMP.
Two men have been charged in connection with an offensive banner placed over a bridge on the M602.
Both clubs have received charges from governing body UEFA after the match.
UEFA charged Liverpool after fans chanted “ Manchester is full of s***”.
Liverpool FC also faces charges for the setting off of fireworks, throwing of objects and crowd disturbances.
Manchester United were charged for blocked stairways, crowd disturbances and throwing objects.
GMP have released nine images of men they wish to speak to in connection with the disorder.
DC Warriner added: “A number of arrests have already been carried out, but now we need the public’s help to ensure those people capable of carrying out such violence are no longer welcome at our football grounds.
“Please take a few minutes to view the images and if you recognise anyone, please contact either myself or my team”.
“If necessary this can be done anonymously.”

Ireland: Derry City - Shamrock Rovers - 08/04/2016
Source : http://www.derrynow.com/
Arrest of football fans: 'Public order issues' dealt with 'robustly and quickly,' Derry police reveal
Police in Derry have released more details of last night’s arrests of Shamrock Rovers fans in the city.
Three supporters were arrested before the game and eventually escorted out of the city.
There were no incidents during the match which City won 3-0 to go top of the Airtricity Premier Division.
It follows trouble outside the ground last month involving local youths and visiting Cork City fans.
After that incident, Derry City said they would take steps to “stamp out” trouble on match nights to make Brandywell a safe place for fans to visit.
Congratulating City on last night’s win, a police spokesperson said the arrests followed "public order issues" before kick off which were dealt “quickly and robustly” by local Neighbourhood Police, “event management” and community representatives.
The spokesperson added: “Police arrested three away fans as a result of the disorder who were later released and escorted out of city.
“They will be reported to the Irish Football Association.”
Police maintained a presence outside the ground during last night's game.

England : Whitehawk FC - Wealdstone FC - 09/04/2016
Source : http://www.brightonandhovenews.org/
Fans clash at Whitehawk game
Police have launched an investigation after fans violently clashed at Whitehawk’s home game against Wealdstone FC yesterday afternoon.
The brawl is believed to have started after Wealdstone fans were accused of making racist remarks towards the Whitehawk crowd at the Enclosed Ground in East Brighton Park.
It’s also been reported that the “Wealdstone Raider” – super-fan Gordon Hill who rose to internet infamy for his rants against Whitehawk in 2013 – was involved in the altercations.
One witness said that Brighton lads responded by assaulting the away fans, although it’s not clear exactly what happened at this stage. However, a video posted online shows punches apparently been thrown by both sides.
Whitehawk FC said last night on their Facebook page: “Whitehawk FC will be releasing a statement on the disgraceful behaviour displaced by a minority of Wealdstone fans today in due course.
“We would like to go on record and say that this does not in anyway reflect on Wealdstone FC. Many people in our club have gone on record and stated how we are influenced and inspired by how Wealdstone is run.
“Wealdstone are a great club with dedicated fans. What happened today is evident to all. We align with Wealdstone in condemning this type of behaviour.”
A police source said that investigations were currently at an early stage.

Marseille’s furious fans clash with police during Bordeaux game
Marseille have endured a miserable season.
They also unfurled a banner calling for the club’s owners to spare them the ‘humiliation of relegation’ and played the farcical Benny Hill theme tune during the game, as well as lighting flares.
It is not the first time this season there has been trouble during a home game – in March violent scenes broke out at the Stade Velodrome during Marseille’s 5-2 loss to Rennes.
They drew 0-0 with Bordeaux on Sunday as anarchy unfolded in the stands, extending their winless streak in the league to nine games.
The game ended in more bad blood with around 200 supporters having to be dispersed by tear gas.

Palermo - SS Lazio - 10/04/2016
Source : http://palermo.gds.it/
At 2.00 PM, a fight erupted in front of the "Aluia" bar, between ultras of both team. Police had to intervened. 3 fans were injured and 5 Palermo fans were arrested.
After seeing their side crash to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Lazio on Sunday, Palermo fans didn’t hold back in letting their displeasure be known after the contest.
The Rosanero remain in the thick of the relegation battle, as they occupy 18th spot in the table despite being level on points with Carpi.
As a result Palermo fans let their anger over the dismal campaign be known during the contest, as play was suspended on several occasions due to fireworks and paper bombs being thrown in the stadium.
However with many Ultras leaving after Lazio’s second goal in the first half, protests spilled over to outside the venue.
It is believed close to 1,000 fans are stationed near the bus area, with chants directed at President Maurizio Zamparini, who supporters believe is the man to blame for their woes.
No doubt the fiery patron will be anything but pleased with Sunday’s events as he will certainly be forced to pay a fine for the scenes that took place during the match.
