Italy: Man stabbed in fan clashes at servo - 01/04/2012

Source : http://sport.msn.co.nz + http://www.trc.mo.it

A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the thigh in clashes between rival AC Milan and Napoli fans at a motorway service station near Bologna, Italian news agency Ansa report.

The Napoli fan was taken to the Maggiore di Bologna hospital in the city following the incident around 2pm on Sunday (2200 AEST Saturday).

Buses taking Milan fans home from their trip to Catania on Saturday night and others carrying Napoli fans to Turin for their encounter with Juventus on Sunday night stopped at the same station, after which there was a coming together of rival fans.

Police were called and three buses, containing around 150 people, were held at the service station.

Police were interviewing those present and trying to identify the culprit.

The Napoli fan was not badly injured and was immediately discharged. He is expected to be interviewed by police.

Portugal: Uefa fines Porto for racist chants towards Manchester City's Mario Balotelli - 03/04/2012

Source : http://www.telegraph.co.uk

FC Porto has been fined 20,000 euros (£16,700) by Uefa following racist chanting directed at Mario Balotelli during Manchester City’s Europa League victory in Portugal six weeks ago.

The treatment of Balotelli, who was subjected to monkey chants during the 2-1 victory, prompted City to make a formal complaint to Uefa in the wake of the last 32 tie against the Portuguese outfit.
And Uefa confirmed on Tuesday that the incident has resulted in a fine for the former European champions.
A Uefa statement said: “The Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body has imposed a fine of 20,000 euros on FC Porto for racist conduct of their supporters (Article 11bis – Discrimination and similar conduct) at their first-leg round of 32 Uefa Europa League match against Manchester City FC on 16 February in Porto.
“The club has the right to appeal within three days from the dispatch of the decision.”
City were unavailable for comment in response to the punishment, but the penalty is likely to be viewed as little more than a rap across the knuckles for Porto.

Scotland: Five football fans arrested over violent clashes at train station - 04/04/2012

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk

FIVE football fans were arrested yesterday following violent clashes at a railway station.
The bloodshed at Glasgow Central came after a Scottish Cup tie between Hibs and Ayr United last month.
One man was taken to hospital and a severed ear was found at the scene.
The men, aged between 22 and 45 and all from Edinburgh, are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on April 26.
Six men, aged between 24 and 48, were arrested at the scene and are awaiting legal proceedings.
British Transport Police Detective Inspector Grant Cathcart, who led yesterday’s operation, said: “This was serious, violent disorder.
“Football-related anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated on the rail network.
“We will continue to work closely with all Scottish forces to take action against anyone who steps out of line and bring hooligans to justice.”

Poland lacks foreign hooligan list for Euro 2012 - 04/04/2012

Source : http://www.thehimalayantimes.com

Euro 2012 host Poland lacks a database of foreign hooligans banned from stadiums in their homelands, raising the risk of trouble at the looming tournament, monitors warned on Tuesday.

Poland's National Audit Chamber (NIK) said the issue was a cause for concern just two months before the 16-nation European football championships, co-hosted with neighbouring Ukraine, kicks off in the capital Warsaw.

"There's no functioning list in Poland of individuals hit by stadium bans abroad, because the police have been too slow in setting it up," said NIK chief Jacek Jezierski.

"To date, there haven't been any agreements with foreign partners and there aren't any legal norms for this," he explained, as the NIK launched a report on security preparations.

"This could hamper police efforts to ensure security at Euro 2012, both inside the stadiums and out," he warned.

Much of Poland's pre-Euro 2012 focus has been on home-grown hooligans, whose hardcore is officially estimated at up to 5,000 in this nation of 38 million.

But with hundreds of thousands of fans set to flood in to Poland and Ukraine in June, authorities are bracing for problems from travelling fringe elements.

National police spokesman Inspector Mariusz Sokolowski played down the NIK's findings.

He said Polish law enforcement authorities did not need a special register, given that they would be working directly with liaison officers from foreign police forces.

"From the beginning, we've said that on this issue we'll be sharing information with police forces from the countries whose teams are taking part," Sokolowski explained.

Agreements with the forces concerned are set to be inked next month, he added.

Poland and Ukraine will host eight teams each in the Euro 2012 group stage.

Besides the Poles, those playing here are Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Russia, and reigning champions Spain.

But other fans could be thrown into the mix even before the quarter- and semi-finals, as Denmark, England, Germany, Holland and Portugal have picked Polish base-camps despite playing in Ukraine.

Only three teams have chosen to set up shop in Ukraine: the Ukrainians themselves, plus France and Sweden.

Greece: Olympiakos win title after appeal fails - 04/04/2012

Source : REUTERS

Olympiakos Piraeus were crowned Greek champions on Wednesday after Panathinaikos failed in an appeal to the soccer federation to overturn a punishment for crowd violence at last month's abandoned Athens derby.
Panathinaikos have been docked three points and Olympiakos awarded a 3-0 win following the events at the March 18 match, meaning 10 points now separate the two clubs with three matches remaining, the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) said.
"The HFF has accepted the punishment handed down by the Super League..." it declared in a statement.
Panathinaikos will also start the 2012/13 season with two points deducted as part of the toughest sanctions ever imposed by the Greek Super League.
The strict penalties followed a new sports law passed by the government in February to clamp down on soccer violence.
Olympiakos led the standings by four points from Panathinaikos before Wednesday's hearing rubber-stamped the punishment handed out to Panathinaikos on March 23rd and confirmed the Piraeus side had won their 39th league title.
Panathinaikos did manage to get part of their penalty reduced on appeal with the Athens club ordered to play three matches behind closed doors instead of four, while their fine was slightly reduced to 212,000 euros ($282,800)from 252,500.
The violence during the heated atmosphere at the Athens derby at the Olympic Stadium, the ground which hosted the 2004 Olympics, was some of the worst seen in recent seasons.
The start of the second half was delayed by 45 minutes as fans pelted police with Molotov cocktails, flares and missiles, and the game was subsequently abandoned altogether with nine minutes remaining with Olympiakos 1-0 ahead.
Twenty police officers were injured and more than 50 arrests were made while three fire engines were called in to extinguish flames as hundreds of fans set alight sections of the stands. Three of those arrested were charged with possession of explosives, police said.
The club had already been in trouble with the Super League's disciplinary committee this season for crowd violence and were forced to play one match behind closed doors earlier this month.

Violence ends Bosnian cup match

Season 11/12 - April 263437BoracBanjaluka

The Bosnian Cup semi-final between Borac Banjaluka and visiting Zeljeznicar Sarajevo was abandoned after home fans hit a linesman with a missile.

A charged atmosphere rife with nationalist chants boiled over midway through the second half when Borac fans hurled a hard object that hit the linesman, forcing referee Midhat Arnatuvic to stop the match.

It was the second successive match between the two teams to be abandoned after their league fixture last September was halted at the same venue when Borac fans invaded the pitch and hurled rocks and flares at Zeljeznicar supporters.

Zeljeznicar were leading 1-0 through a superb Zajko Zeba free-kick on Wednesday when trouble erupted.

Bosnian football has been plagued with violence in recent years as rival fans in the ethnically divided country clash regularly when their teams play each other.

During last September's league match between Borac and Zeljeznicar, the home fans produced a banner hailing Bosnian Serb genocide suspect Ratko Mladic.

In October, a friendly between Zeljeznicar and Croatian side Hajduk Split was cancelled before kick-off in Sarajevo after rival fans turned the streets of Bosnia's capital into a battlefield, injuring dozens of people and damaging cars.

Fighting erupted inside the Grbavica stadium and continued after police drove out the hooligans.

Southampton FC - Portsmouth FC - 07/04/2012

Source : http://www.dailyecho.co.uk

Five arrests as Saints V Pompey ends in 2-2 draw

THE derby clash between Saints and Pompey passed off without serious incident and just five arrests.

Police said they made four arrests for public order offences and one for criminal damage and assault.

There were no "significant incidents of disorder” reported before or after the match, which ended 2-2, police said.

One Saints fan was arrested inside St Mary's stadium for trying to get over to the area of the ground designated for Portsmouth fans.

Six fans from the 31,254 crowd were ejected from the stadium, police said.

One man received treatment for a minor injury to his face after being hit by a coin in the crowd. And there were about five seats ripped up by away fans after Saints scored their second goal.

Portsmouth fans made their way to and from the stadium in a special convoy of 43 coaches.

Mounted police moved in to prevent any disorder as Saints fans gathered outside a working men’s club in Northam Road as the coach “bubble” arrived.

It took less than two minutes for the coaches to move away from the ground at the end of the match, once fans had got onboard.

Mounted police move in to separate rival fans

Pompey fans have arrived at St Mary’s in the coach “bubble” for the derby clash with Saints.

Police say a group of Saints fans gathered at a working men’s club in Northam Road as the convoy of Pompey coaches went past.

Officers on horseback moved in to prevent any disorder.

A large group of Saints fans gathered at the police line on Britannia Road, shouting at the Portsmouth fans as they made their way into St Mary’s.

There was also a heavy police presence around Pompey fans, who were chanting and banging on windows, as they got off the coaches.

A window of one of the coaches was smashed.

Some Portsmouth fans were waving a banner that said: "We're being held against our will.

"Watching football is not a crime."

Police said all away fans were in the stadium by ten minutes before kick-off.

They said there was no "significant" intelligence of any planned violence but were prepared for any spontaneous pockets of disorder.

Both sets of fans have been warned violence at the game will not be tolerated and police will seek maximum football banning orders for anyone arrested.

Austria: Red Bull Salzburg - Wacker Innsbruck - 07/04/2012

Source : http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com

Police injured, toilets demolished in Austria

Wacker Innsbruck fans injured a policeman by letting off firecrackers and smashed up toilets during their game at Salzburg.

Salzburg police said in a statement on Sunday that a group of 98 fans arrived late for Saturday's game after their buses were stopped for checks on a motorway. This took longer than usual "because they were not very co-operative," police said.
The supporters arrived at the stadium as the second half was getting under way and forced their way in.
"This ended up with a massive misuse of fireworks against the officers in which one officer was injured," said the statement, adding that he suffered burns to the shoulder.
"Four people suffered minor self-inflicted injuries. The toilets in the visiting fans' sector were totally demolished."
Police said they were examining video footage to identify the perpetrators.

Malaysia: Sarawak FA - Kelantan FC - 07/04/2012

Source : http://www.nst.com.my

TWO disgruntled football fans beat up a policeman after the Super League match between Sarawak and Kelantan ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Police Light Strike Force (LSF) Lance Corporal Amzari Othman, 33, attached with the Sungai Maong police station, was left unconscious after he was attacked. He received outpatient treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
The incident occurred at the end of the match when the rowdy crowd hurled verbal abuses and threw bottles and stones to show their unhappiness over the outcome of the match. When the LSF team ordered the crowd to leave the stadium, a fan, sporting a Mohawk hairstyle, attacked Amzari while another fan hit another policeman who came to his rescue.
Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said they were tracing the duo, in their 20s, believed to be brothers.
This was the second incident involving rowdy "Bujang Senang" supporters after the first incident at the Sarawak vs Singapore's Lions XII match on March 17, where local supporters threw firecrackers into the pitch and destroyed a bus outside the stadium.
Acting city police chief Superintendent Pauzi Bujang said police would take stringent measures to control the crowd at future matches.
