Football fan knifed in head moments before final whistle after argument with rival fan
A Chelsea fan was stabbed to death after reportedly taunting a Manchester United fan over their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Stephen Oluoch was knifed in the back of the head moments before the final whistle after an argument with the fan during Monday night's Manchester derby.
The 24-year-old had been watching the top-of-the-table clash on TV in a shopping centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
He was with his cousin and a group of about 20 other fans who had met up to watch the match.
According to AllAfrica Mr Oluoch was attacked just metres from his home in Nairobi’s Mbotela estate.
His cousin Vitalis Ochieng told Kenya's Daily Nation: “He had followed Manchester United matches on TV. It was towards the end of the second half when Steve walked out and a few minutes later, I received a call from a neighbour. He asked me to rush home. Steve had been stabbed.
Joy: Manchester City fans celebrate after their win over Manchester United “I abandoned the match and rushed home. I found him lying on the ground. He had lost a lot of blood and was motionless. We sent someone to call the police."
Kenya Police confirmed they are still hunting the alleged attacker.
English football teams have a fanatical following in Kenya with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal being the most supported teams in the country.
Locals in Nairobi regularly meet in makeshift cubicles - made out of rusty iron sheets - to watch Premier League matches on TV.
Fans have christened them Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and The Emirates.
Last year, a young girl committed suicide in Rongai after Manchester United lost a champions league match and in the same year an Arsenal fan committed suicide in Nairobi's Pipeline estate after the team lost a premier league match.
The Manchester derby title showdown set a new record for Sky Sports, with audience peaking at 4.2m viewers after the satellite broadcaster asked for the match at the Etihad stadium to be switched to the Monday night.
It beat the previous audience record back in September 2003, when Sky showed England's Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey.
