The tension in the air was palpable as a small faction of Nacional supporters attempted to unfurl a Peñarol flag. The act, perceived as a blatant gesture of disrespect, was further inflamed when two flares were ignited, illuminating the flag in a defiant display. The situation escalated quickly as identified members of Nacional’s barrabrava tried to extinguish the flares and bring down the rival’s flag, leading to a fistfight that marred the spirit of the game.

After the match between KVMechelen and Sporting Charleroi, the Mechelen police used water cannon to repel Charleroi supporters. They threw beer bottles at the police. One policeman suffered a head injury. Around ten supporters were identified.

On leaving the stadium after the match against KV Mechelen on Saturday evening, a large group of Charleroi supporters turned on the police, who were stationed in a buffer zone. They threw beer bottles at the police. One policeman was injured and taken to hospital with a head injury.

"The police had to use a fire engine to drive the fans back to the visitors' zone, where the buses were parked," explained Chief Inspector Dirk Van de Sande of the Rivierenland police zone.

Tense atmosphere

"On the other side of the visitors' zone, Charleroi supporters also tried to break through the barrier. Here too, beer bottles were thrown at the security forces. The police stopped them at the intersection of Kalkhovenstraat and Ziekenbeemdenstraat.

The fans gradually made their way back to their buses and left shortly afterwards accompanied by the police. The city services and fire brigade also had to work hard to clear the road, which was littered with shards of glass.

Before the match, KV Mechelen fans had also made their voices heard. Several hundred people gathered on the Grand-Place, where numerous fireworks were also set off.

In all, ten supporters were identified and a police report was drawn up.

Footage shows hooligans storming Club Brugge chip shop with Cercle fans after derby

A few hours after the match between Club Brugge and Cercle, five hooligans were arrested. They were Club Brugge fans who stormed a chip shop where Green-Black supporters were eating inside at the time. "We kept the door closed, so they broke a window", said the manager. They confirmed the incident to the police.

The derby between Club and Cercle was announced in advance as a high-risk match. The police did so because there had been a serious brawl at 't Zand in Bruges in February this year after the previous derby. There, among other things, a flare went off in a café. The police were therefore present on Sunday with extra troops. At first, everything seemed to be going well, but a few hours after the match, things took a turn for the worse.

At around 6.30pm, a group of Club supporters attempted to storm the De 4 Seasons chip shop in Saint-Pierre. The images show that it was a larger group - according to the manager, made up of around twenty people. "At the time, several Cercle supporters were eating something here. Maybe they'd seen this," confirms the manager. Those present saw the disaster coming and managed to keep the door closed. The hotheads then smashed a window in the chip shop. Pyrotechnics were also used. They eventually fled when the police arrived. "We are now assessing the damage. The police have also carried out the necessary checks", explained the chip shop manager.

Injury
Bruges police confirmed the incident. "There has indeed been a report of an attack on a chip shop near the Veemarkt," said spokeswoman Lien Depoorter. "Pyrotechnic devices were also used. There were no injuries, but damage was caused to the business."

Police eventually managed to arrest five hotheads. The case is currently being investigated further. The police remained on the scene for some time after the attack and arrested the hotheads. The fire brigade closed the broken window.

Basel fans cause a ruckus in the Old Town
Dozens of ultras caused damage to a bar in the city and molested its manager.

Several dozen Basel supporters caused a stir in the Old Town on Saturday night. Having just arrived in Geneva for this afternoon's match between their club and Servette FC, these ultras caused damage to a local bar.

It was around 12.40am when around fifty FC Basel supporters burst out of the Parc des Bastions and made their way up to the Old Town. Around thirty of them made their way to the Flanagan's bar in the same area. Some were "hooded", according to the GHI.

Prevented from entering the establishment due to their large numbers, these supporters attacked the manager and inflicted several blows on him (although he did not press charges). "Glassware and furniture were also broken," explained police spokesman Alexandre Brahier. Patrols searched the surrounding area, but no one was arrested.

Eleven injured after firecracker explodes in Augsburg



According to initial police reports, eleven people were injured when a firecracker exploded during FC Augsburg's Bundesliga match against TSG Hoffenheim. The firework had been thrown from the Hoffenheim fan block and exploded loudly near the corner flag. "Several people were apparently injured by the firecracker," the police announced on Saturday evening. Two suspects have been identified and both men have been arrested.

Referee Felix Brych interrupted the match for around five minutes in the 57th minute due to the incident.

Botev Plovdiv’s management have strongly condemned the violence that took place during the derby against Levski Sofia in the Bulgarian efbet League.

During the halftime internval at the ‘Georgi Asparuhov’ stadium in Sofia, Levski ultras fired rockets at supporters of Botev Plovdiv, injuring one fan who was nd taken to hospital.

Botev reacted instantly and after the end of the game, which ended 1:1, demanded answers from the law enforcement authorities and Levski management regarding security at the match.

“At the break between the two halves of the match, Botev’s supporters were bombarded with dozens of flares, one of which hit a man who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“The shelling of the guest sector, where there were dozens of women and children, showed several extremely dangerous and puzzling things. We will not dwell on the culture and adequacy of part of the home supporters, because these ugly and dangerous manifestations are not a precedent,” said Botev in a statement.

“On the other hand, we want to express our strong disappointment with the organisation of the meeting and the subsequent actions of the police, who let hooliganism continue for a long time without any intervention.

“Why and how did the law enforcement authorities allow an entire arsenal to be brought into the stadium? Shouldn’t there be a thorough inspection at the entrances to the sports facility?

“In the event that the police did their job in good faith before the start of the football match, preventing the introduction of the rockets in question, then we direct our question to the management of PFC Levski Sofia – how the rockets in question reached those who fired them at our supporters and will do our colleagues take into account what happened?,” continued the statement.

“Dear supporters of the game of football, today the football celebration that the Botev and Levski teams created could have ended in a tragic accident.

“Botev’s management condemns the criminal activities of a handful of self-absorbed ‘supporters’ of Levski, while we remain awaiting a public response to our questions from both law enforcement and the hosts’ management.”

DNA evidence could link AEK fan to fatal stabbing - 13/11/2023

The genetic material of a 35-year-old AEK fan, identified as A.D. by the police, was found on a knife that also carried the blood of the fatally injured Michalis Katsouris during violent clashes in Nea Filadelfeia before the soccer match between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb in August.

A.D. was recently arrested for his involvement in the riots that occurred in the AEK-PAOK Cup final in Volos in 2017.

His DNA sample was compared to genetic material found on two knives seized as evidence, both carrying Katsouris’ blood.

The first knife was confiscated in the area where the Croatian hooligans were apprehended, and is believed to have been used by a 20-year-old Croatian. The second knife, where the genetic material was identified, is thought to belong to A.D. These developments reintroduce the scenario that the death of Katsouris, 29, was accidentally caused in a collision with A.D. during the clashes.

This is the same individual captured on footage wearing a red T-shirt, involuntarily colliding with Katsouris in an attempt by both to evade an attack by Croatian hooligans.

These developments reintroduce the scenario that the fatal injury to the 29-year-old AEK fan was accidentally caused at the moment of his collision with the 35-year-old A.D.

Violence after Lecco-Parma : local supporters assaulted by Gialloblù ultras

One FC Bruges fan into custody after a raid in a snackbar

The examining magistrate in Bruges has issued a warrant for the arrest of a hooligan on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and arson at a chip shop, according to the West Flanders public prosecutor's office, Bruges division, on Monday. Three suspects were conditionally released, while another was cleared.

The Bruges council chamber will decide on Friday whether to keep the hooligan in custody. The other three suspects will be placed under house arrest before, during and after Club Brugge matches. They will no longer be allowed to come into contact with other supporters.

The incident took place on Sunday after the derby match between FC Bruges and Cercle de Bruges. At around 6.30pm, a group of hooligans attacked a chip shop in the Sint-Pieters district of Bruges. In all likelihood, the FC Brugge supporters saw Cercle Brugge fans eating at the bar. They broke a window in the establishment and used pyrotechnics in their attack.

The Bruges public prosecutor's office had decided to present three Bruges citizens aged 29, 32 and 37 and a 25-year-old man from Oostkamp to the examining magistrate on Monday afternoon.

Bulgaria: Mayhem in Sofia as protesters demand change of football leadership - 16/11/2023

Central Sofia was rocked by violent clashes with police on Thursday (16 November) evening as demonstrations demanding the resignations of senior football executives spiralled out of control.

The protests were scheduled to coincide with a Euro 2024 qualifier match between Bulgaria and Hungary, played in a closed stadium.

Journalists covering the protest said they had “never seen anything like this”.

Protesters gathered outside the centrally-located ‘Vassil Levski’ stadium to protest against the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Federation (BFS), led by its President Borislav Mihailov.

Mihailov is a former goalkeeper and captain of the national team during its greatest success in history – a semi-final match at the 1994 World Cup in the USA.

He became the head of the federation in 2005. Since then, football in Bulgaria has declined, with the national team failing to qualify for the finals of any major championship.

Protesters accuse the BFS of mismanagement, corruption, lack of transparency and a persistent refusal to take responsibility.

They chanted “Resignation”, “Down with BFS”, and “Mihailov out” and held up posters condemning the leadership of the football union and its president.

What started as a peaceful protest quickly deteriorated as hooligans threw stones at police and set fire to vehicles, including a police bus.

Police violence against peaceful protesters was also reported. Reportedly, 1,600 policemen were mobilised to maintain order during the protests.

As the protests continued, the police issued several warnings to protesters, but they were not heeded. Authorities then used water cannons to push the crowd back from the stadium.

In footage captured by various television stations, clashes continued, and citizens were beaten and arrested by police.  In one incident, police raided a bar where they beat all the patrons before arresting some.

Several police officers were injured, as well as many protesters. Dozens more were arrested.

“After so much blood, go away”, former Prime Minister and leader of the GERB party Boyko Borisov wrote on his Facebook profile, demanding the resignation of Mihailov.

Borissov also attacked his political enemies, including the mayor of Sofia, Vassil Terziev, who won the election on 5 November, beating the GERB candidate.

“And those who allowed a protest, after which Sofia is in flames and water cannons, and citizens, fans and police are fighting – you are not good! Take responsibility!” Borissov said.

Borissov was prime minister for many years of Mihailov’s tenure.

In the meantime, the match ended with Hungary qualifying for the Euro 2024 finals with a game to spare after a last-gasp own goal from Alex Petkov earned them a 2-2 away draw against Bulgaria.
