Greek police detain 41 Serbs due to fears of football-related violence
Greek police detained 41 Serbs on Tuesday after stopping cars thought to be carrying supporters of Red Star Belgrade in the Vale of Tempe in central Greece.
The Serbs were allegedly heading to Athens for Olympiakos's Champions League tie against Dinamo Zagreb, which is a fierce rival of Red Star. The fans of the Serbian club have a very close relationship with the supporters of the Piraeus team.
Even though Dinamo fans have been prevented from traveling to the game due to security restrictions, the Greek police was concerned that Red Star supporters would travel to the Karaiskaki Stadium to attend the Champions League game.
Sources said the suspects were found to be carrying cement rods, planks of wood and rocks. There is concern that as many as 300 Dinamo supporters traveled to Athens despite the restrictions and that they may clash with Olympiakos or Red Star fans.
Football hooligans from Greece, Serbia and Croatia have wrought havoc in Athens ahead of Wednesday's UEFA match.
With the UEFA Champions League match between Olympiakos, Greece, and Dinamo, Croatia, scheduled for Wednesday, militant football fans have already started conflicts.
Some 60 hooligans fought each other at the Monastiraki market in the historic centre in Athens on Tuesday, Greek media reported, adding that some of those involved were injured.
Olympiakos most radical supporters, called Gate 7, appeared to have teamed up with Delije, supporters of Belgrade’s Crvena Zvezda, to clash with Dinamo’s supporters Bad Blue Boys, BBB.
The BBB in turn joined forces with Gate 13, supporters of Panathinaikos, the biggest rivals to Olympiakos in Greece.
Earlier that evening, around 500 members of Gate 7 and Delije were looking for Panathinaikosa and Dinamo fans in the centre of Athens but police pushed them back to the port of Piraeus.
Dinamo officials confirmed that around 50 members of BBB were arrested, and said some had used narcotic substances.
Greek media also reported that during the night 34 Serbian and Croatian citizens were arrested, while police confiscated metal bars, bats, flares and cocaine.
In an attempt to avoid violence from breaking out in the first place, both Olympiakos and Dinamo had agreed not to sell tickets for the match in Athens to Dinamo supporters.
But around 100 BBBs managed to get to Athens, hosted by Gate 13, with whom they have traditionally good relations.
Olympiakos club management said they fear that Panathinaikos supporters will buy tickets for Dinamo supporters, therefore avoiding the ban.
Some 41 members of Delije, from both Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, were arrested on the road between Larissa and Athens.
Supporters had stolen material from a construction site in Larissa, which they wanted to use in clashes with the BBB.
Dinamo’s commissioner for security, Kresimir Antolic, said on Tuesday that around 200 Delije fans were in Athens at the moment.
He added that when the number of Dinamo and Panathinaikos supporters is taken into an account, “it’s realistic that new conflicts will occur”.
Earlier, on Monday evening, a group of about 30 Greek hooligans attacked a taxi with four Montenegrin citizens in Athens.
The Greek supporters, who mistook the Montenegrins for Dinamo fans, smashed the windows of the taxi, throwing flares and smoke bombs.
The incident caused no injuries, since all people left the car, which caught fire.

Five injured in clashes between Croat, Serb football hooligans at Athens airport - 05/11/2015
Source : http://www.ekathimerini.com/
Five people were injured on Thursday in clashes between suspected Croatian and Serb hooligans outside Athens International Airport, police said.
The Serbs, allegedly supporters of Red Star Belgrade, clashed with the Croats, fans of Dinamo Zagreb, on the day after a Champions League game between the Croatian team and Greece’s Olympiakos.
While Dinamo was not given tickets to the game due to security concerns, dozens of its supporters traveled to Greece on their own. Olympiakos won the game 2-1.
Earlier in the week, 45 Croatians and four Serbs were held in custody in Athens over charges of weapons and drugs possession.

Asteras Tripolis - APOEL Nicosia - 05/11/2015
Source : http://cyprus-mail.com/
Nicosia football club APOEL were looking at a hefty punishment after their fans hurled flares into the pitch during a European fixture in Greece on Thursday, prompting the referee to suspend play for 15 minutes.
APOEL lost the game against Asteras Tripolis 2-0 but that appeared on Friday to be the least of their problems as they were looking at a stiff punishment from European football governing body UEFA.
The side has already been sanctioned several times in the past over its fans’ actions, something expected to work against APOEL when UEFA rules on Thursday’s incident. Around 1,500 supporters of the Cypriot team attended the game in Tripolis.
UEFA vice chairman Marios Lefkaritis said the punishment the team was facing was very big from the moment they have a record.
Lefkaritis did not expect a suspension from European competitions but suggested that it could end up being better compared with the penalty APOEL was currently facing.
A decision is expected within two to three weeks.
The fallout has already been felt in Nicosia as two board members announced their resignation.
On his Facebook page Charalambos Prountzos said he was resigning for ethical reasons and suggested that APOEL’s stands had been infiltrated by far right and neo-Nazi groups and individuals carrying out a catastrophic undertaking in a bid to take ownership of “this huge idea” for other reasons, and infect innocent and desperate children.
Financial officer Yiannis Demetriou also resigned , describing what happened during the game in Greece as sacrilege.
In its first reaction, APOEL cancelled all the tickets already sold for the Nicosia derby with arch rivals Omonia. It also cancelled a fan day that was scheduled for Saturday.
“The behaviour of certain brainless individuals irreparably hurt APOEL’s name,” the club said.
APOEL apologised to Asteras and its supporters “for the very bad behaviour of some fans who committed a crime in a hospitable stadium.”
No one was arrested in connection with the trouble that took place during the game.
Greek police detained six APOEL fans before the game in connection with possession of flares and drugs.
Police, who carried out random checks, found four in possession of flares and two who had hashish on them.
Two Asteras supporters were also arrested for possession of flares.
They were expected to appear before a magistrate on Friday.

APOEL supporters started hurling flares on the pitch in the second half and while their team was 2-0 down. They continued to do so even after they were warned that the referee would suspend play.
The Austrian official interrupted the game on the 69th minute. His initial intention was to abandon the match for safety reasons and blame APOEL fans.
He eventually changed his mind and the game restarted 15 minutes later.

Derby County and Nottingham Forest mass brawl: hooligans "acted like animals" court hears - 05/11/2015
Source : http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/
Witnesses to a mass brawl between two rival sets of football hooligans have described how they watched as the mobs behaved “like animals”.
Residents in Trowell told how they saw running battles between the two sets of teenage boys and men who follow either Derby County or Nottingham Forest football teams.
In statements read out at Nottingham Crown today those who saw some of the fighting said they saw “two men grappling” in the road and another whose garden was invaded by two others who were being chased by a rival group.
Nerys Fowler, in her statement, said: “I was shocked, frightened and appalled, it was like a scene from a police drama film.
“The atmosphere was intimidating, I thought things could boil over, some of the group had their faces covered to conceal their identities.”
Resident Greg Watson was in his car heading into Nottingham from his home in Trowell when he saw the two groups clash.
In his statement, he said: “Suddenly I had to stop because there were a number of males zig-zagging across the road throwing punches at each other.
“Most of those I saw were young but there were two older males, aged 40 to 50 maybe, who seemed to be goading the others into having a fight.
“I thought men their age should know better, you perhaps expect it from kids, but not grown men.”
Another witness statement, made by Trowell resident Aileen Marriott, told how she confronted two of the group, one of whom had jumped over a fence into her garden and another who was trying to.
In her statement she said: “I just thought they had committed a burglary and I said to them ‘what do you think you are doing? or words to that effect’ and he replied ‘you have got to let us in or we are going to get our heads kicked in’.
And witness Michael Pedley said he watched as one man was attacked by a youth who “ran across the road and punched him in the face before running back” to avoid getting hit.
Mr Pedley, in his statement said: “I think the actions of the males involved could have led to injury on quite a large scale.”
Nottingham Crown Court has previously been told how up to 80 Derby or Forest fans were involved in what the prosecution described as “unadulterated and pre-arranged football hooliganism”.
It took place on September 28, 2013 after the Reds had beaten the Rams 1-0 in a match at the City Ground.
A crowd of 50 Rams followers gathered in the car park of the Festival pub in Trowell where they waited for 30 Reds fans who travelled in a number of taxis from Nottingham city centre to meet them for a mass brawl.
14 men or teenagers have already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit violent disorder.
But three others have denied the same charge and are currently on trial at Nottingham Crown Court. They are Timothy Green, 23, of Cavendish Street, Derby, and Samuel Chambers, 18, of Maple Avenue, Sandiacre, who both support Derby, and Forest fan Ian Litman, 48, of Western Boulevard, Aspley, Nottingham.
The 14 who have already pleaded guilty to the charge are Mark McKendrick, 41, of North Road, West Bridgford; Aaron Tegg-Vardy, 20, of Prospect Road, Carlton; Alex May, 18, of Calderdale Drive, Long Eaton; Aiden Yates, 19, of Worrall Avenue, Long Eaton; Daniel Johnson, 21, of Bennett Street, Long Eaton; Jack Jowett, 19, of Beauvale Drive, Ilkeston; Joseph Turton, 24, of Cloudside Road, Sandiacre; Liam Brookes, 25, of Standish Drive, Boston; Leon Brown, 18, of Margaret Avenue, Ilkeston; Rory McColgan, 18, of High Lane Central, West Hallam; Callum Harvey, 18, of Wyvern Avenue, Long Eaton; Lewis Walton, 23, of Mayvale Grove, Derby, Ryan Slater, 18, of Barclay Court, Ilkeston, and a 17-year-old from Ilkeston who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Pitch invader accosts Derby player after defeat at Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest will launch an investigation after Derby County’s Bradley Johnson was jostled by a pitch invader after Friday’s Championship match.
Nélson Oliveira’s early goal proved the difference at the City Ground as the Reds ran out 1-0 victors against their in-form local rivals. It ended Forest’s eight-match winless streak and led to celebrations spilling on to the pitch after the final whistle.
One of the fans made a beeline for the Derby midfielder Johnson, who was forced to push him away forcefully, and Forest have promised to investigate the incident.

West Ham hooligans for Roma-Lazio - 07/11/2015
Source : http://www.football-italia.net/
Around 50 West Ham United hooligans have arrived to infiltrate Roma-Lazio, while Wisla Krakow fans are also expected.
The Derby della Capitale kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 14.00 GMT on Sunday.
This is a high-risk game, but the stadium will be half-empty because ultras from both clubs are boycotting the Curve – ends – over new barriers introduced to split the sections.
This increases the likelihood that groups of fans will clash away from the stadium, where it is more difficult to police the streets.
According to La Repubblica, around 50 West Ham United hooligans have been spotted in the city for tomorrow’s game.
They were invited by Lazio’s more hard-line and violent supporters.
There are also concerns that hooligans from Wisla Krakow and Real Madrid’s Ultras Sur will turn up, although so far they haven’t been identified.
Rome has already been devastated by foreign hooligans this year, as Feyenoord fans damaged a priceless fountain in Piazza Navona ahead of a Europa League match.

Police called to non-league game as fan is 'punched by player' in brawl sparked by last-gasp equaliser
A non-league game between Enfield Town and Billericay Town descended into chaos on Saturday after a last minute-equaliser sparked a punch up.
Approximately 10 police officers were eventually forced to intervene to bring the brawl under control with one fan reportedly being punched by a player.
With the clock winding down, Enfield were heading for a hard-fought 2-1 victory, but Billericay's Alex Stephenson scored a dramatic late equaliser.
Upon hearing the referee blow the final whistle, players from both sides squared up to each other. But unlike most Premier League tiffs, the fight escalated into a serious altercation involving both players and fans.
And there were even reports of a supporter being punched by one of the visiting side.
Jonathan Fadugba, a spectator at the game, tweeted: "Absolute chaos at Enfield Town v Billericay, about 10 police showed up after a player apparently punched a fan."
