A HOOLIGAN has been jailed and banned from going to football matches after slamming a rival fan over a table in a pub brawl.Michael Singh, an Aldershot supporter, was among those who caused havoc in the John Jacques, in Fratton Road, ahead of the Portsmouth v Aldershot FA Cup tie at Fratton Park last season.
The commotion sent drinks flying in the bar as families fled in horror from what had been a peaceful Remembrance Sunday morning in November last year.
The 51-year-old, of Church Hill, Aldershot has been forced to celebrate his birthday in prison after being jailed for eight months at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Simon Jones, prosecuting, told the court Singh went to the game afterwards but left early and joined a group of supporters who targeted what was described in court as the infamous Pompey 6.57 crew’s pub of choice – the Milton Arms, in Milton Road.
CCTV footage showed Singh in the chanting crowd. He says he did not take part in the ruckus.
Speaking of the pre-match incident Mr Jones said: ‘There was this “come on” shout and everything kicked off from there.
‘What Mr Singh did was, as part of the problem Aldershot supporters, he pushed a man down on to a table with force.
‘He held that man down by the back of this neck.’
Recorder David Bartlett also handed Singh a six-year football banning order. Six other men were sentenced in August.
Mr Jones said: ‘That was the pub used by the infamous 6.57 group in Portsmouth.
‘That was something that the Aldershot supporters knew and targeted. There was a concern of disorder at the Milton Road pub.
‘That led officers to that pub and they ejected that group.’
All in the group were then escorted to Fratton railway station.
Singh, who has a previous conviction for assaulting a police officer and battery, pleaded guilty to affray but initially disputed he was at the post-match incident.
