| Slovakia : DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda - ŠK Slovan Bratislava - 01/11/2008Souce : futbal.sme.sk + photos TASR + MTI Rioting, arrests and injuries mark Slovak football game Far right groups from Poland and the Czech Republic joined their Slovak counterparts on Saturday to support Bratislava soccer team Slovan in a contest against Dunajska Streda, a team from an ethnic Hungarian region in southern Slovakia, while about 1,000 far right Hungarians picked up the gauntlet. The result: numerous injuries and arrests. One man was air-lifted to the hospital. Police were prepared for disturbances in the game, one of the most important in the Slovak championship, after the far right on all sides used Internet forums to organize. Disturbances had begun before the game got underway, when police arrested a number of fans of both teams. Gabor Gobl, one of the organizers of the Hungarian vandals, said police had arrested the far-right pop group Romantic Violence, which had scheduled a concert in Slovakia the night before, but was cancelled. He added that police denied him entrance into Slovakia. The Hungarian language Slovak daily Uj Szo reported that 13 fans had been arrested and 16 injured including 3 who required hospitalization before the game even got underway after Bratislava fans three bottles and firebombs at the Dunajska Streda team headquarters. Law enforcement authorities escorted a number of injured and bleeding Slovan fans from the scene, the paper reported. Over 1,000 police officers and an unspecified number of private security guards and military police were on hand. There were 10,000 spectators. Many Hungarians carried banners showing maps of Hungary that included Slovakia as a province of Hungary. The game was halted temporarily in the 15th minute, when police marched into the area of the stands occupied by the Hungarians, who chose to fight it out. Several people were hospitalized including one man who was air-lifted after his jaw was broken, blocking his windpipe. He was intubated. No further incidents were reported. After the game, which Bratislava won 4:0, police equipped with water cannon escorted Bratislava fans to the railway station. ************************************************************* Hungarian police query Slovak counterparts on Dunajska Streda fighting Hungarian police asked their Slovak counterparts for official information on Sunday, wanting to know exactly what happened at a soccer game in Dunajska Streda where police believe 31 people were arrested and 11 injured. Hungarian police have asked for information on the reason why police marched into the area of the stands occupied by the Hungarians, whether the move could be legally justified, the exact number of people arrested, the number of proceedings underway, and the number of people injured and what condition they were in. Police expect to have a report by Sunday afternoon, the national police force website noted. The release printed on the police website notes that a significant contingent of fans was expected to travel to Slovakia from Hungary to attend the game, between Bratislava soccer team Slovan and Dunajska Streda, a team from an ethnic Hungarian region in southern Slovakia, so Slovak police asked for Hungarian police liaisons to participate. Five Hungarian police officers were at the game, ostensibly to assist in dialogue between police and fans, to observe fan behaviour, and if needed, to issue warnings and assist communication - including interpreting - between the security forces and the fans. These five officers were not briefed before the Slovak forces moved on the fans and were not included in any portion of the action. As far as the Hungarian National Police Force knows, 31 people including 16 Hungarians were arrested. All were released by Sunday afternoon. Eleven people were hurt in the police action including 5 Hungarians, said the police website, adding that all had since been discharged from the hospital. A series of Saturday night demonstrations in Hungary protested the police action. One was held at the Vamosszabadi border crossing, another at the Slovak Embassy in Budapest, and a third in the city of Bekescsaba (SE) where there is a Slovak Consulate. There were no acts of violence and police did not intervene. ************************************************************* Source : Earthtimes Nationalistic tensions fuel violence at Slovakian football match More than 50 people were injured in nationalistic-fuelled violence at a football game in south-western Slovakia. Thirty-one people were arrested in Saturday's rioting - 18 fans for the home team in Dunajska Streda, one of the most important centres for Slovakia's ethnic Hungarian minority, and 13 from the away team from Bratislava, a police spokeswoman in Bratislava said. Violence had been feared ahead of the championship game between AC Dunajska Streda and Slovan Bratislava as hundreds of football hooligans and neo-Nazis from Hungary were expected to travel to the match. Nationalistic tensions have intensified between Hungary and Slovakia recently and have been fuelled by nationalists from both sides through provocative public statements. Fanning the flames has been Slovakia's failure to meet its pledge to include Hungarian versions of place names in school textbooks used in ethnic Hungarian schools, disproportionate distribution of EU funds to ethnic Slovak and Hungarian schools in Slovakia and insults by Jan Slota, the head of the Slovak National Party, which is in the ruling coalition, against Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz in which he likened her to Adolf Hitler. Slovakian politicians have also long accused the Hungarian government of doing too little to combat right-wing extremists. Police numbers were increased from 760 to 1,000 to provide security for the football match, which Bratislava won 4-0, but violence broke out between both sets of fans and with the police. A police spokeswoman told the media that fans from the home team had hurled stones while internet forums accused police of targeting Hungarian fans. The most serious injuries occurred in a crush of Hungarian fans that developed after a controversial police intervention, television reports said. On Saturday night, right-wing Hungarian demonstrators assembled outside the Slovakian embassy in Budapest, some of whom threatened bloody revenge. Slovakian Ambassador Juraj Migas said on Slovakian television that 500 to 600 protestors had gathered outside the embassy but Hungarian police had the situation under control. | Fans Attack Roma Team Bus At Trigoria - 02/11/2008
Source : Sport24
Roma supporters are up in arms after the Giallorossi’s fourth defeat on the trot in Turin and have ‘welcomed’ the players last night, branding them as mercenaries and tossing coins toward the bus.
The Eternal City outfit have failed to amass a single point since the win over Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico last month and the comprehensive loss to Juventus yesterday was the last straw for the demanding Romanisti fans.
They had already blasted the team after last weekend’s heavy defeat at the hands of Udinese, throwing eggs and other objects upon their return to the Trigoria training ground.
And they also awaited their return from Piemonte last night, as news agency Ansa has revealed that around 100 fans were at Trigoria when the bus arrived from the Fiumicino airport.
They reportedly threw several coins and other stuff at the windows and protested against the squad with explicit chants: “Go to work! You betrayed our faith, you are just mercenaries!” they shouted.
Other chants were also directed at coach Luciano Spalletti and President Rosella Sensi and the Gazzetta dello Sport alleges today that the owners are now considering giving the sack to the embattled tactician and hire Carlo Mazzone as a caretaker manager.

| CSKA Moscow - Spartak Moscow - 01/11/2008 Source : RIA Novosti Over 200 fans detained during Spartak-CSKA derby Moscow police detained over 200 fans during Saturday's match between Spartak and CSKA, a police spokesman said. A number of fans were arrested before the game by riot police, including in the city's subway system. "In the main, those detained were young people under the influence of alcohol," he said. The match at the Luzhniki stadium in the southwest of the capital was attended by some 60,000 fans, and saw Spartak Moscow defeat CSKA 1-0. The win was the first time the club had beaten their cross-town rivals for seven years. After the game, as the Spartak players threw their shirts into the crowd, a number of fans fell into the space between the running track and the stands. Around 40 of them were injured. A small number of them suffered broken bones, but in the main the injuries were minor. | |

| Malaga CF - FC Barcelona - 01/11/2008
Source : Reuters
Eto'o victim of racist chanting at Malaga, media say
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o was the victim of racist chanting during the second half of Saturday's 4-1 Primera Liga win at Malaga, Spanish media reported on Sunday.
One section of the crowd made monkey noises when the Cameroon international touched the ball and whistled at him when he was substituted near the end, newspapers including El Pais and Marca reported.
The referee's match report, published on the Spanish soccer federation's website (www.rfef.es), made no mention of abuse and described the behaviour of the crowd as "normal".
Racism remains an issue at sporting events in Spain and Eto'o has been targeted before.
In another incident earlier this season, Getafe's Ecuadorian forward Joffre Guerron was racially abused during a match at Sporting Gijon, according to the referee's report.
Renault's Spanish Formula One driver Fernando Alonso condemned racist supporters on Friday after hate messages were posted on a Spanish website targeting his British McLaren rival Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton, the sport's first black driver, was also subjected to racial abuse from spectators at a test in Barcelona in February, after which Formula One's governing body launched an anti-racism campaign.
There was no immediate mention of the incident at Malaga in the post-match reports and comments by Barcelona officials and players posted on the club's website (www.fcbarcelona.com).

| Scunthorpe United FC - Swindon Town FC - 01/11/2008Source : VitalFootball Police & Stewards Clash With Fans At Scunthorpe Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Joe Murphy has been reported to Scunthorpe United F.C and The FA after almost causing a riot in the Swindon end during Swindon Town's away match at Scunthorpe United. Murphy had said something to some Swindon Town fans during the 3-3 draw at Glanford Park, who than ran to the front to give Murphy some stick. Then all of a sudden several stewards and police ran down to meet the Swindon Town fans. We are not sure what was said but several punches that appeared to come from the stewards and the police were thrown and several Swindon Town fans were ejected. The BBC apparently said that it appeared the stewards were being over the top and that a policeman had thrown a punch however we cannot confirm this was the case. It must be noted that Swindon fans behaved impeccably up until this time and complied by sitting down until this incident. The stewards looked as if they were wanting a fight as opposed to diffusing the situation which was very disappointing given the fact there were kids and elderly fans in attendance. Upon leaving the ground fans reported the stewards and Murphy to the Police who then said that Murphy would be reported and to his club and to The FA. Swindon Town Fans were also advised to contact Swindon Town F.C. to complain about the treatment of Swindon Town fans during this game. | |

Carlos Manuel Perez, 20, was shot dead after a violent confrontation between fans of Sportivo Luqueno and Libertad. Gangs from both teams clashed on the road from Luque to San Lorenzo after the match, and fighting came to an immediate halt after the death.
According to reports three men who supported Libertad were arrested after the incident. They were said to have played a part in the eventual death of the Sportivo Luqueno fan.
"I don't know what could have happened, we get along very well with the Libertad fans, well at least with their leaders," stated Joselo, one of the chief members of the Sportivo Luqueno fanbase.
The case will be investigated by police in the following days, with the help of the leaders of both institutions. Violence is a common issue within Paraguayan society, one of the poorest countries in South America.

| Cops warning for Euro fans - 04/11/2008
Source : Glasgow Evening Times POLICE today warned rogue football fans they faced nationwide bans for sectarian or racist offences.
The tough message was issued as more than 3000 Manchester United supporters headed for Glasgow for tomorrow's crucial Champions League encounter with Celtic.
A police spokesman warned potential troublemakers: "Any supporters arrested for offences of a serious nature, particularly racist or sectarian offences, will be the subject of an application for a football banning order."
advertisementStrathclyde Police insisted public safety would be paramount, with high-profile policing and extra patrols in and around the city centre.
A booze ban on buses and trains will be enforced, and fans heading to the game without a ticket will be turned away.
Chief Superintendent David Martin who will head the police operation said: "Officers will be carrying out regular ticket checks on the way to Celtic Park. If you don't have a ticket, there is no point in even trying to get to the game as you will not get in."

| 27 arrested over violence after Swansea v Cardiff football match - 05/11/2008
Source : LLanelli Star
A POLICE operation to round-up Swans fans who ran riot after the club's derby match with Cardiff has resulted in the arrest of 27 people so far. Trouble flared after the game with bricks and glass bottles being hurled at police, and Swansea supporters taunting rival Bluebird fans. South Wales Police launched Operation Cybil in the aftermath of the violence to try and trace the culprits. As part of the investigation they issued more than two dozen CCTV images of people they wanted to talk to — the photos were printed in the Post and on this website, as well as being distributed at a subsequent Swans game. Chief Superintendent Mark Mathias said: "We are looking at every opportunity to identify, arrest, prosecute and ban those people who tarnished what was otherwise an excellent and well-behaved sporting event." And he said he hoped the tough stance being taken by the police in pursuing the yobs would send out a clear message that match-day trouble would not be tolerated in Swansea. "We are in the process of planning for the next Cardiff game," he said. "And I would hope that any individual intent on causing problems at the match takes note of our current actions." As a result of Operation Cybil seven people have so far appeared in court, 17 have been bailed pending further enquires, and a further three people have been quizzed but released with no further action being taken against them. Police said they have also got names for another two people they want to speak to, and are trying to trace them. Today officers are renewing their appeal for help in identifying the outstanding fans they want to quiz about the post-match disturbances. A police spokesman said: "There are a total of 11 males outstanding whose photographs were originally circulated and are yet to be to be identified. "Officers are urging the individuals concerned, or anyone who is able to identify any of them, to make contact with Swansea police."

| Hefty jail term wanted for unruly Marseille fan - 06/11/2008
Source: ESPN
The Spanish state prosecutor has recommended an eight-year jail term for an Olympique Marseille fan detained after the French side's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid last month.
Police clashed with Marseille fans before the start of the Oct. 1 match, which Atletico won 2-1, and the fan, named by the French club as Santos Mirasierra, has been in custody since.
The list of charges against him includes public order offences and assaulting a police officer, according to a Madrid court statement published on Thursday.
Prosecutors also want him banned from soccer stadiums for three years and fined, the statement said.
"My first feelings are desolation, sadness," Marseille president Pape Diouf told the club's website (www.om.net).
"We must bear in mind that it is the Spanish police that are responsible for what happened, as they did brutally charge at our fans.
"We thought that this farce would come to an end but it is another step in foolishness and the unacceptable," Diouf added.
"It is also time for the French State to become aware of this matter."
UEFA said failures in Atletico's organisation had prompted confrontations between Marseille fans and police and initially ordered the Spanish club to play their following two European fixtures at least 300km (186 miles) outside Madrid.
It also threatened a home stadium ban for a third game if there was further trouble.
The two-match ban was later reduced to one match played without spectators but Atletico have said they will fight the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Marseille host Atletico on Dec. 9 in the last Group D match.
