| Appeal to help name Sunderland game thugs - 21/11/2008Source : Evening Chronicle THESE are the derby day louts who brought shame on North East football. Ugly scenes marred the game between Newcastle United and Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last month. Brawls broke out on the pitch, while seats were ripped out and missiles thrown between fans and at police. Police have studied CCTV footage from inside and outside the ground and today used the Chronicle to urge you to shop the main troublemakers. These 40 mugshots show those suspected of orchestrating the disorder and officers are asking for information on any of them. Chief Supt Neil Mackay, of Northumbria Police Operations Unit, said: “We will act on any information received from the public to ensure that those involved in disorder are identified, put through the courts and receive appropriate penalties and banning orders. “I would appeal for the assistance of the public to identify those involved and send out a strong message that this sort of behaviour at a football match is unacceptable. “Those attending football matches to cause disorder are attending for entirely the wrong reasons. True fans, whose first priority is the game itself, should continue to work with us to make football a safe and secure event for all concerned.” Trouble flared before, during, and after the derby game, which Sunderland won 2-1. Immediately after Kieran Richardson scored the winner, two supporters ran on the pitch and confronted Toon goalkeeper Shay Given. On the final whistle, a larger pitch invasion took place, with around 30 Sunderland supporters running onto the turf. They were joined by fans from the Newcastle end and fights broke out between them. Joey Barton was warming up in front on Sunderland supporters and was pelted by coins and bottles, as well as being spat at, before retaliating by kissing his badge. There were 29 arrests on the day but officers vowed to track down those not already identified, resulting in this appeal. Several offenders have already been traced following a study of footage and pictures. Chief Supt Mackay added: “The overwhelming majority of football fans are well-behaved and want nothing more than to attend games free from the fear of violence, disorder or other crime. “ | |

| Exeter football club's hooligan pledge - 21/11/2008
Source : Express & Echo
FOOTBALL hooligans involved in a pre-arranged fight have "no place at St James's Park" and Exeter City bosses have vowed to ban them for life. Violence broke out in Guildford following City's 1-0 League Two defeat to Aldershot on Saturday as rival fans fought outside a pub. Police believe the altercation had been organised in advance. Eight of the 11 people arrested following the incident were from the Exeter area, while the others were from London, Egham and Cheltenham. One is reported to be a well-known hooligan linked to Chelsea FC. All of the men, aged between 19 and 31, were issued with penalty notices for disorder and fined £80. Club safety officers are now making sure the men involved never again set foot in St James's Park. Frances Farley, the club's operations director, said the club will not hesitate to take a zero-tolerance approach. "It's soul destroying for me, as a supporter and a mum, to think this might put off real fans from coming to see an Exeter City game because they fear violence — it's just not the case," she said. "There is no violence at St James's Park and this did not happen at a football ground and did not involve anyone going to the game. "We work very closely with police to give out banning orders. These people involved in the fight had nothing to do with Exeter City Football Club, they were just using the excuse of a football game for their own ends and we want them out." Police say the group from the city travelled on a "rogue" coach and minibus, not organised through the club. Officers had tracked a coach which had two fans already subject to banning orders on it, as they entered Hampshire, escorted them to the game and out of the county. But trouble flared outside the Drummond pub in Woodbridge Road, Guildford, in Surrey, at 7.20pm. There has been a history of problems between Exeter and Aldershot fans since an FA Cup match in 1999 and then league games in the Conference. Devon & Cornwall police sent three officers to Aldershot to spot any supporters who are banned, and officers are now awaiting evidence from Hampshire police to decide what action they can take. One man who was on the "rogue coach" told the Echo the group didn't realise they were doing anything wrong by making their own way to the game rather than going with the official away group. "There were disabled people and ladies on the coach and it was part of a 46th birthday party," said the man, who didn't want to give his name. "I don't think there was any trouble from our group. I don't believe anyone on the coach was previously banned but I don't know everyone personally so I can't be certain."

He was rushed to Jose Maria Cullen hospital but tragically died in the ambulance. His brother is in a critical condition having also been stabbed. The perpetrator was caught on the stadium's CCTV but police have yet to apprehend him. | SIX MONTHS JAIL AND A FIVE YEAR BAN FOR FOOTBALL FAN WHO HALTED CELTIC V MAN UTD TIE - 22/11/2008Source: Sunday Express A DRUNK teenager whose pitch invasion during a Champions League tie with Manchester Utd cost Celtic a £42,000 fine, was jailed for six months yesterday. John Murphy was also banned from attending national or international football matches for five years, the longest banning orders imposed in Scotland. Millions of television viewers worldwide watched as play had to be temporarily stopped during the first half when Murphy, from Glasgow, went on to the pitch at Celtic Park on November 5. And it emerged during the court hearing that the 18-year-old also has a conviction for breaching the peace at Ibrox during a Rangers v Liverpool match. Celtic fan Murphy, of Maryhill, Glasgow, admitted breaching the peace and being drunk in a sports ground when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month. His actions led last Thursday to Celtic being fined £42,430 by UEFA for the invasion and for the late start to the game. Prosecutor Carolyn McLeod told the court that the youth was not a season ticket holder and that he got a ticket for the game from a friend.

| St-Mirren - Celtic - 23/11/2008
Source : Paisley Daily Express
Celtic fans attacked
COPS were called out to a pub packed full of football supporters after hooligans turned up looking for a fight.
Three men were arrested after the brawl outside the Stow Brae on Canal Street, Paisley in the hours following St Mirren’s clash with SPL champions Celtic at Love Street on Saturday.
About 15 neds rounded on Celtic fans after their bus broke down outside the watering hole.
One man was taken to hospital suffering from a deep gash above the eye while a few other Hoops supporters took a beating, leaving them with cuts and bruises.
Ross Mitchell was in charge at the well known pub at the time and said he did not recognise any of the thugs as football fans.
“We used to get a lot of Buddies in here before and after games. Some of the guys even ran a bus from here until January so I know a lot of the supporters,” he explained.
“I certainly didn’t recognise any of those responsible and they were not wearing colours – they were clearly just hooligans.”
Trouble flared around 30 minutes after the Celtic fans’ supporters bus broke down outside the pub.
As the group of about 30 people waited for the vehicle to be repaired they popped into the Stow Brae for a quiet drink but were soon targeted for abuse.
Mr Mitchell added: “The bus broke down outside. As they waited to have it fixed they came in. They were friendly and not rowdy. Someone must have spotted them walk in because half-an-hour later about 15 guys turned up and attacked a couple of Celtic fans outside while they were having a smoke. It kicked off from there.
“We called cops and they were round in a couple of minutes and cleared everything up.”
A police spokesman confirmed there had been “a bit of a brawl” outside the pub.
He added: “There was a football related incident in the hours after the game.
“Around 30 people were involved and three people were arrested, mainly for disorder offences like breach of the peace. There were no serious injuries.”

| No place for hooligans to hide - 25/11/2008
Source : Hull Daily Mail
HOOLIGANS who marred a Hull City match may be tracked down in a similar operation to the one which netted thugs after the infamous Huddersfield Town clash four years ago. Today, PC Karl Corcoran, Humberside Police's football intelligence officer, confirmed up to 60 individuals are of interest to them. About 40 Hammers fans clashed with a smaller group of Hull City yobs at Parkers, in Anlaby Road. Others were spotted fighting outside the stadium in Walton Street, west Hull. PC Corcoran said: "We may pick them off at a football match or we may target them in a two or three-day operation, as we did after Huddersfield." Following that incident in April 2004,18 men – 17 of them Hull City fans – were sentenced for affray and banned from Football Association games. Seventeen of them were jailed. Debbie West, landlady of Parkers, previously described the latest incident as "horrendous and frightening". She told the Mail: "A good 40 to 50 West Ham fans turned up in the car park and fought with about 10 Hull City fans. "Glasses and bottles were thrown. My customers were disgusted." Officers claim to have extensive video footage of the latest violence, which marred the match at the KC Stadium last month. PC Corcoran said: "We have footage from CCTV cameras at the ground and in the street, as well as footage from hand-held cameras which were carried by our officers." Officers are busy compiling "arrest packages" before they carry out raids. Humberside Police has sent footage of the clashes to West Ham United. "That footage has been sent off to West Ham United," said PC Corcoran. "It is down to them what they do with it. They may pass it on to police." PC Corcoran again stressed the majority of Hull City fans are law-abiding people who condemn football-related violence. He said: "It was a small element of fans who have let the club down. I have praised the good fans a thousand times and I will do so again."

| Football hooligans banned from matches after riot between Celtic and Aberdeen yobs - 25/11/2008
Source : Glasgow Daily Record
FOUR football hooligans who took part in a riot were yesterday barred from going to matches.
Kevin Allan, Grant Molloy and Hugh Fraser were handed two-year football bans for their role in violence between Celtic fans and about 60 Aberdeen casuals.
A fourth accused, Stephen Rodgers, 22, was banned from matches for a year.
Fighting broke out in February last year after the Celtic-supporting thugs arrived late for kick-off and watched the game at the Gordon Hotel on the outskirts of Aberdeen.
They ended up getting involved in an organised fight outside.
Allan, 22, of Cambuslang, Glasgow, Molloy, 21, of Yoker, Glasgow, Fraser, 21, of Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, and Rodgers, of Bathgate, West Lothian, all admitted breaking the peace by acting in a disorderly manner. They were each handed between 140 and 180 hours' community service.
Aberdeen sheriff David Hall told them: "Your behaviour was nothing short of disgraceful."
He added: "You all purport to be supporters of Glasgow Celtic Football Club. Clearly, this event blackened their name.
"If you are genuine supporters, you should be ashamed of yourselves."

| Nottingham Forest - Norwich City - 22/11/2008
Source : Norwich Evening News
Canaries fans ejected from game
Two Norwich City football fans were arrested and five ejected from the ground during Saturday evening's away game at Nottingham Forest.
The game, at The City Ground last Saturday evening and shown on Sky TV, resulted in five of the Norwich fans who had travelled to the match being made to leave the premises for “breaches of the ground regulations”, police have confirmed.
A further two Canaries were arrested for public order offences, investigations into which are continuing.
Although it is unclear the exact reason for the five people being ejected from the ground it is thought it could be for persistent standing.
A spokesman for Nottingham Forest Football Club said they were unable to comment and Nottingham police said they could not give any more details.
A spokesman for Norwich City Football Club declined to comment until they have more details about the incident.
Traditionally, Norwich has one of the least troublesome football fans in the country.

| Fans bans help as Swans arrests fall - 25/11/2008
Source : LLanelli Star
SWANSEA City have once again improved their position in football's league table of shame. Figures on football violence released by the Home Office show that, during the club's promotion-winning season, 32 fans were arrested at matches. That figure is down from 44 during the 2006/07 season and 63 the season before. And between August 9, 2007, and October 30, this year, a total of 14 new banning orders was issued, bringing the Swans' total up to 53. Swansea City director Dave Morgan said: "With an average home support of more than 15,000 for every league game, and an average away support of about 1,200 this season, it is clear that it is a very small percentage of people who have caused any trouble. "I don't think we have had any problems to speak of at any away match. "On the whole, Swansea City's support at home and away matches is well behaved." Mr Morgan said a factor in the fall in arrests was the deterrent of banning orders. He added: "I think most people who support their football club don't want to get themselves arrested because they know the minimum banning order is now for three years. "People don't want to be banned from supporting their team, so people use common sense and don't want to be involved." While overall incidents last season are down, since these figures were collated the Liberty Stadium has seen one night of football-related violence following Swansea City's Carling Cup victory over arch-rivals Cardiff. Following the Swans' 1-0 win, officers trying to keep supporters apart were pelted with rocks and glass bottles. Eight people were arrested. Since then eight Swans fans have been given banning orders — seven relating to the Derby match and one following an incident in the away game at Reading. Swans manager Roberto Martinez has teamed up with Cardiff City and the police to urge fans to show match-day violence the red card ahead of the clubs' league clash on Sunday. The clubs have joined police in issuing a warning to troublemakers — you are not wanted at the game, so stay away. Martinez said: "We are excited to have this Welsh derby — it is a big football occasion, and we want it to be a game that both sets of fans can be proud of. "Derby matches are special — whether it is Celtic against Rangers, Seville and Real Betis, or Swansea and Cardiff — but they should always be about the football, not about violence." Nobody from South Wales Police was available to comment.

| Hooligan numbers revealed - 25/11/2008
Source : expressandstar.com
A total of 85 Wolves fans were slapped with court orders last season banning them from attending football matches, new Home Office figures reveal today.
This compares with some 39 West Bromwich Albion supporters hit with the same penalty in the courts.
Elsewhere, there were 83 Stoke City; 82 Aston Villa; 76 Birmingham City; 13 Walsall; four Kidderminister Harriers; 25 Port Vale and one Stafford Rangers fan – all banned from games between August 9, 2007 and October 30, 2008.
Nationally, there were 3,172 orders imposed, with Leeds United followers (152); Cardiff City (136) and Millwall (117), topping the table.
But while the number of bans was high, arrests were down at Molineux, falling from 76 in 2006/07 to 64 in 2007/08.
This included 30 for alcohol-related crimes and 24 for public order offences – including one arrest for possession of an offensive weapon.
Arrests were also down at The Hawthorns from 38 to 33 – three for invading the pitch.
The number collared by the police at Villa Park rose from 76 to 97, with the vast majority to do with drink, including three arrests for throwing missiles.
There was also an increase at St Andrews (93 to 99); Stoke City (50 to 58 ) and Walsall (5 to 13).
In total, some 3,842 arrests were made for football-related offences at domestic and international matches in England and Wales – equating to 1.21 per game.
Figures also showed arrests for racist chanting in the terraces fell 43 per cent to 23 in total – the lowest level on record.
Home Office minister Vernon Coaker said the Goivernment remained committed to tackling violence and criminality in and outside of stadia, and praised police officers, clubs and fans for their efforts.
He said 94 per cent of supporters whose banning orders had expired were no longer considered a risk to football disorder by police.
“Football violence and disorder has no place in the modern game and we are determined to crack down on those who attempt to ruin the sport for the vast majority of genuine fans,” he said.
“I am delighted that the police, the clubs and the fans are working together to help clampdown on football violence in and out of the grounds.
“Football banning orders have proved to be a great success. However we are not complacent and continue to work very closely with police, football authorities and supporter groups to co-ordinate a sophisticated multi agency strategy to manage football disorder,” he added.

| Police keen to speak to man at Leicester v Bristol Rovers game - 26/11/2008
Source : Avon and Somerset Constabulary
Police have issued an image of a man at a football match who they believe could help their enquiries.
The image was taken at the Leicester versus Bristol Rovers game in the East Midlands at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday November 1.
During the first half of the game a small minority of the crowd – in the visitors section - were involved in an incident which resulted in some seats being damaged. The group were also reported to be acting aggressively towards the police and home fans. There was some racial chanting also reported.
Police have released an image of a man that they would like to speak to in connection with the incident in Leicester.
Seven people were arrested following police enquiries following the game. Three were charged with racial chanting, criminal damage and public order offences respectively.
The remaining four were released on police bail pending further enquiries during December and January.
Bristol Rovers are aware of the incident and are working in partnership with the police. The seven people arrested have been given a temporary club ban from attending the Memorial Stadium, until police enquiries have concluded.

Fans arrested in Subway over sectarian singing Two men were arrested at Ibrox Subway station before last weekend's game against Aberdeen POLICE arrested two Rangers fans for allegedly singing sectarian songs on Glasgow's Subway before last week's clash with Aberdeen.
Officers from British Transport Police made the arrests at Ibrox station shortly before the kick off at 3pm.
It's understood the fans were held in connection with two separate incidents on the underground.
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal and both men are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.
advertisementThe arrests follow a widely publicised crackdown on fans travelling on the Subway.
In July, two Rangers supporters were caught singing bigoted songs before the Champions League qualifier with Lithuanian side FC Kaunas.
The men, both understood to be season ticket-holders, were reported to Rangers, with BTP seeking banning orders.
Chief Superintendent Martyn Ripley, area commander for the Scottish area of BTP, said: "The majority of supporters who attend matches are well-behaved and contribute to the good name of the club, but there is a small minority who can tarnish that reputation."
Transport cops use mini-cameras and audio recorders to monitor crowd behaviour on match days.
Senior officials have also warned that plain-clothes officers may also be used to gather evidence.
Meanwhile, four thugs who took part in riot at a hotel have been slapped with football banning orders.
The Celtic fans clashed with Aberdeen casuals after arriving late for an SPL match at Pittodrie in February last year.
Kevin Allan, 22, of Cambuslang; Grant Molloy, 21, of Yoker; Hugh Fraser, 21, of Stonehaven, and Stephen Rodgers, of Bathgate, watched the match at the Gordon Hotel, on the outskirts of Aberdeen, and ended up getting involved in a fight outside.
Sheriff David Hall said: "Your behaviour was nothing short of disgraceful.
"You all purport to be supporters of Celtic. Clearly this event blackened their name. If you are genuine supporters, you should be ashamed of yourselves."
Allan, Molloy and Fraser were handed two-year football bans. Rodgers was banned from attending matches for a year.
All four also received between 140 and 180 hours of community service.

| Cyprus : More football hooligans arrested - 26/11/2008
Source : Cyprus Mail
IN A BID to show they mean business against hooligans, police have announced the arrest of four more people in relation to the crowd trouble that broke out during a football match more than two weeks ago.
The violence erupted at the AEK v AEL game at Larnaca’s GSZ stadium on November 8. The match had to be stopped after enraged AEL fans started hurling objects, causing damage to property, burning down the stadium’s physiotherapy room and assaulting a number of police officers.
In an unprecedented move, police then released the identities and photographs of suspected troublemakers who were caught on CCTV footage. This led to the arrest of six individuals.
Christos Andreou, spokesman for Larnaca police, said yesterday that four more people were tracked down and arrested.
The charges concern disturbing the peace, handling of dangerous objects, destruction of property, and assault against police officers.
Of the latest four arrestees, said Andreou, two turned themselves in, one was located by police, and the fourth pointed out by an anonymous informant. All four pleaded guilty, were charged and released.
Police are still searching for a fifth person who caused serious injuries to a policeman after hitting him with a fire extinguisher.
“The police are determined to pursue this, and investigations will continue until we locate all suspects and bring them to justice,” said Andreou.
“Individuals who engage in this sort of violent and criminal acts pose a danger [to society],” he added, urging the public to come forth with any information.
In the wake of the latest bout of violence, Police Chief Iacovos Papacostas expressed grief at the public’s apathy to the police’s plea for help in identifying suspected hooligans.
