Officers were called to the Farnborough's home ground, Cherrywood Road, after some fans invaded the pitch.

It is reported that fights then broke out in the car park as people left the stadium.

There were around 500 supporters at the Southern League Premier Division game, which ended 3-2 to Farnborough, and it is thought that around 50 were involved in the pitch invasion.

The police are asking for anyone with information about what happened or who may have mobile phone footage of the incident, particularly outside in the car park, to contact them.

Three people were taken to Frimley Park Hospital with injuries and are being treated.

It is believed at least one of the injuries happened after the victim was attacked with a brick and it is also thought that sticks were used in the fighting too.

Merthyr fans were left in need of hospital treatment

Three people were taken to hospital after they were injured during a pitch invasion at a Merthyr Town football match.

The incident happened during an away game at Farnborough Football Club's ground on Saturday December 4, 2021.

One person is believed to have been attacked with a brick during the pitch invasion which involved around 50 people, a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary police said.

Officers were called to the game after fans filled the pitch and fights broke out in the car park as people left the stadium.

According to Merthyr Town Football Club, the incident resulted in a number of Merthyr fans being injured. A club spokesman said it would be working alongside Farnborough FC, the Southern League and the police to address the incident.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary police said: "We've launched an investigation after fighting and disorder broke out at the football match between Farnborough and Merthyr Town at the team's stadium.

"Our officers were called to the team's home ground in Cherrywood Road, Farnborough after some fans invaded the pitch and fights then broke out in the car park as people left the stadium.

The match between Standard Liege and Charleroi was stopped in the 88th minute after Standard fans threw flares and took to the field, with their team trailing 3-0 at home.

Video footage showed Standard fans approaching the stand where Charleroi supporters sat and throwing projectiles in their direction.

Crowd trouble also marred the match between Beerschot and Antwerp, where one Beerschot fan threw a flare into a stand of Antwerp supporters.

The Lyon fan responsible, a 32-year-old man, was arrested and handed a six-month suspended prison sentence while also being banned from Lyon's stadium for five years.

"Any act of violence against a player, especially a major player, invites a points deduction as a punishment," said the disciplinary committee's president, Sebastien Deneux, in a press conference.

"We took into consideration Lyon's actions immediately after the incidents, which allowed the perpetrator to be identified and punished."

It was just the latest violent incident to scar a Ligue 1 game this season.

On Wednesday Marseille were separately fined 10,000 euros for "discriminatory comments" aimed at the South Korean player Suk Hyun-jun of Troyes in a game on November 28.

That was after comments were picked up by the microphones of broadcaster Amazon Prime during the match, played behind closed doors as a punishment for incidents in Marseille's draw with Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season.

Troyes later alleged that their player had been the victim of "racist abuse", leading Marseille president Pablo Longoria to publicly apologise.
