| Thirty-three soccer fans arrested in Sheffield - 17/12/2000
Source: CBC Sports
Police used riot gear, tear gas and batons to disperse a group of about 300 rival soccer fans in the downtown area, then arrested 33 of them.
In what police believed was prearranged violence, fans of Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday fought in the city centre Saturday, hours after the Division One teams had tied 1-1.
On Sunday, the government called for three-year bans on the fans involved in the rioting.
Trade minister Richard Caborn, the Labour lawmaker for Sheffield Central, said that the courts had not used banning orders enough in the past to avoid such violence and convicted fans should be banned from games for three years on top of whatever punishment the courts give them.
"I will be asking the courts how many banning orders have been imposed on fans found guilty of football-related offences in the last three years," he said. "People are seriously concerned that football violence has now transferred from the grounds to town centres and transport interchanges." _________________

| Soccer fans injured during Rio match - 30/12/2000
Source: CBC News
At least ninety soccer fans were injured after a fence collapsed during a championship game in Brazil, crushing spectators below.
At least three people were injured seriously during the accident, which happened at Sao Januario Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. They were taken to hospital by helicopters and ambulances.
Outside the stadium, there was chaos as worried relatives arrived to search for loved ones.
Reports said overcrowding appeared to be the problem. Officials said the number of tickets sold was below capacity but many fans arrived with children without tickets. People in lower rows were pressed against the fence, which buckled and gave way under the pressure.
The state's governor has suspended the match. _________________

| RSC Anderlecht - FC Bruges - 01/12/2000
Source: Soccer Fans website
SOURCE : BCF FC Brugge
Only about 50 BCF made the trip by car (the only ones who were able to obtain tickets). During & after the game several calls were made with the BCS in order to have an off. BCS agreed at a certain place near our cars. After the game nobody from BCS was seen at the meet untill we went back to our cars and spotted about 6-7 (!) lads of the BCS close to the OB - A few punches were thrown untill they dissapeared and the OB was on top. We then went to the city centre, to a pub well-known for trouble at EURO2000, again calls were made to BCS and again they agreed to visit us. After 1 hour about 15 lads of them turned up which led off course again to a complete non-event. Then at 01.15 am BCF headed home and BCS then (!!) tried to attack a smaller group who went to their cars. Sad to see that a home-side has so little lads turning up, but aren't we used to that with those bastards (sorry).
SOURCE : Anderlecht 1.after the game it's impossible in Anderlecht to go marching around with a mob of 50 or more so we always trying to go to the "away sector" with smaller group. What was not working is that we couldn't regroup in order to attack the BCF. 2. In the city town, we regrouped the mob in a pub 100m far from the place where the BCF mob was standing. First we were only with 15 and others lads were on their way and when the police saw that two mobs were up for it in the city center, they decided to lock the pub where we were standing and we couldn't escape to the police vigilance. Brugge lads were free to do what they wanted and we were arrested in our own city !!!!! Since the Euro 2000 and the rampage in Brussels the BCS mob had a good reputation in Brussels. For the Brussels Police the BCFrepresent just nothing (that's what they told us) and It's just the way it is !!!! BCS RSCAnderlecht _________________

| Riots in Den Bosch - 19/12/2000
SOURCE : PRESS
Dutch riot police clashed on Monday with football fans for a third consecutive day in the southern city of Den Bosch.
Extra police have been called in from nearby towns to help quell the violence.
Crowd control police appealed for calm as 200 rioters smashed windows, set fire to a building and threw stones and fireworks at the police. Police say 31 people were arrested and four policemen slightly injured. The rioters set up a barricade in the city centre.
Police killing
The trouble broke out on Saturday after the police shot dead a fan of the local football team.
The Dutch news agency, ANP, identified the victim as Pierre Boulay, a 31- year-old hardcore hooligan.
A police spokesman said a police officer had no option but to shoot him after Mr Boulay approached him with a large knife.
Dutch news reports say Boulay had been banned from Den Bosch stadium last year after he attacked a club steward.
Police reinforcements
About 400 riot police have been called in from around the region to deal with the situation - the first time there has been such unrest in the town of Den Bosch. The police fear the violence could spread to other towns.

SOURCE : FC DEN BOSCH
The tragic death of a member of the FC Den Bosch hardcore, who was shot dead by police after a quarrel with his neighbor, has led to heavy riots in the city of Den Bosch. The match between FCDB and VVV later that day was therefore cancelled by the mayor.
Heavy rioting broke out saturday night and continued sunday night as well as monday night. Several cars and buildings were set afire. The media has (as usual) quickly pointed the finger at Den Bosch hooligans. However it is clear now that rioters came from everywhere. According to some of the hardcore of FCDB present most of them were not even from Den Bosch. The victim's family and friends have now asked that the violence is stopped immediately. _________________
