Tension ahead of France-Turkey Euro showdown
France host Turkey in a crunch Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday with the teams vying for top spot in Group H and diplomatic tension simmering between the two nations after Turkey's bombardment of Syrian Kurds this week.
Looming large over the game, however, will be security issues and international diplomatic relations as France decried Turkish military interventions in Syria this week and blocked arms sales to them.
European soccer chiefs UEFA are already looking into reports that Turkey footballers performed a military salute in celebration of Cenk Tosun's last-gasp winning goal over Albania in Istanbul on Thursday.
After the match, a photo was also posted on the official Twitter account with players making a military salute and a text saying the players "have dedicated their victory to our brave soldiers and fellow martyrs".
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan can often be seen at football matches and has taken many photo calls with top soccer stars, and on Monday evening his foreign minister and sports minister are due to attend the match.
Some 3,800 Turkish fans should be in the 78000 sell out crowd on Monday for a match where a win for France would signal a spot in the finals while Turkey are still under threat from Iceland, who they play in November.
At any event at the Stade de France security is always impressively tight but Turkey's last visit to France in 2009, where their famously passionate fans threw flares onto the pitch in Lyon, the police have announced ramped up measures on orders from the government to assure security ahead of and following the game in what they have qualified as a high risk event.
On November 13, 2015 - the night of a series of terror attacks which killed 130 people - security prevented a suicide bomber from entering the stadium during the France v Germany match which was being watched by French President Francois Hollande.
The bomber and two other suicide bombers set off their bombs outside the ground, killing themselves and one bystander.

England football fan dies in Bulgaria after being 'found in helpless condition'
An England fan in Bulgaria for the Euro 2020 qualifier has died after being discovered in a "helpless" condition in Sofia. Local police told the Daily Telegraph that the 32-year-old died in hospital after being discovered at 10am on Monday in the city centre.
British counterparts are understood to be working with local officers to attempt to contact the man's family. The death was confirmed in the afternoon and is unrelated to an apparent attack by locals on an England supporter, who was left with a broken arm.
A spokeswoman for the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior said of the death: "The incident took place at 10am today. He is a British citizen, 32 years old, at 10am and he was taken to hospital but he has died and the police are now working to clarify all the circumstances."
The spokeswoman said she "cannot confirm" local reports that the man may have taken drugs. "He was found at the centre of the city, in the street," she said. "He was found in a helpless condition."
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was unable to verify the death, but confirmed another man had been injured in a separate incident.
“Our staff are supporting a British man following an incident in Sofia and are in contact with the Bulgarian Police," the FCO said.

Racist abuse twice halts England Euro match in Bulgaria
England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria was twice halted in the first-half due to racist chanting in Sofia.
The Three Lions led 2-0 through early goals from Marcus Rashford and Ross Barkley when play was first stopped and an announcement made to supporters that the game could be suspended if offensive chanting continued.
Once restarted, England quickly made it 3-0 through Barkley. Then play was interrupted a second time as Croatian referee Ivan Bebek held discussions with players and coaching staff from both sides.
In total, played was halted for six minutes.
Raheem Sterling added a fourth England goal before half-time.
A section of 5,000 seats at the Vasil Levski National Stadium was already closed for the game after racism during games against Kosovo and the Czech Republic in June.

France : Marseille Supporters Banned From Parc des Princes for Le Classique - 15/10/2019
Source : https://psgtalk.com/
Olympique de Marseille visits the Parc des Princes on October 27 for the latest installment of Le Classique but they will be without their traveling supporters who have been banned via prefectural decree according to Le Parisien.
This isn’t the first time Marseille supporters have been denied access to Paris Saint-Germain’s stadium. Last season, ahead of their Ligue 1 match on March 17, 2019, the Paris police released a statement per Le Parisien that said they feared Marseille supporters would make fun of the PSG Ultras following the team’s embarrassing loss to Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League. The even cited exchanges on social media between the groups of supporters as evidence that things would get out of hand.
Things did get out of control the last time OM fans were in attendance at the Parc des Princes. The match on February 28, 2018, ended with a 3-0 win for PSG in the Coupe de France but after the match, the destruction of the Marseille fans was revealed per Le Parisien. Toilets and chairs in the stadium were destroyed and some of their actions were captured on camera and shared on social media.
It’s a difficult situation French football finds themselves in. On one hand, you want the opposing team’s fans in attendance for a big match to create a raucous atmosphere. On the other, you can’t have a stadium vandalized and the potential of violence between supporters before, during, and after the match. Some PSG fans weren’t thrilled with the decision to ban the OM supporters.
You have to think with more police surveillance that both sets of fans can watch the match together without any serious incidents occurring.

Inside the dark world of Bulgaria’s football hooligan firms – gouged out eyes, Nazi salutes and strict ‘rules’ of violence - 15/10/2019
Source : https://www.thesun.co.uk/
BULGARIA'S footy fans shocked the world with disgusting displays of racism in the stands during England's Euro 2020 qualifier last night.
Nazi salutes were flung up and monkey noise chants echoed through the air, forcing two stoppages of play, as the Three Lions doled out a 6-0 drubbing in Sofia.
It came just five days after Borislav Mikhailov, president of the Bulgarian Football Union, insisted the country had no problem with racism.
But evidence from last night, and earlier years, points to a long history of far-right violence tied up in the country's football scene.
Pitched battles between sets of rival hooligans are commonplace in the country, and they even have a set of rules to follow in combat.
One ultras group on Facebook, calling themselves "Lauta Army", even claimed to have arranged a fight with two sets of England fans, but the travelling supporters "backed out".
The far-right thugs were responsible for almost forcing the match to be abandoned with their racist chanting.
Last night they posted a picture with the caption: "Lokomotiv Plovdiv lads in Sofia before Bulgaria - England after the arranged meeting with two English clubs didn’t happen as the English didn’t stick to the agreement and turned their phones off.
"Some English decided to fight between themselves."
But some England fans revealed they gauntlet of the terrifying brutes attempting to ambush them after the match.
Theo Ogden, an 18-year-old Bolton Wanderers fan from London, said: “As we walked into the dark streets away from the security of the stadium we realised the Ultras were waiting for us.
“They were dressed in black like the yobs we’d seen doing Nazi salutes and monkey chanting whenever our black players got the ball.
"NEVER AGAIN"
“A group of them came close to us then more appeared and we realised they were trying to head us off and we braced ourself for a kicking - it was terrifying.
“Then a police car suddenly appeared at the last moment and gave us a chance to bolt into the nearest hotel where other England fans were also taking cover.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this at a football match or seen people so sinister - we were innocent fans but they would have hammered us if the police hadn’t stepped in.
“We heard they’d caught two England fans after the game who ended up with bloodied faces and we were too scared to head back out onto the streets.”
Theo - who travelled to Prague with his businessman dad Stephen, 51, and two pals - added: “Monkey chanting, Nazis and violence have nothing to do with football and there’s no question that Bulgaria should be banned from competing by UEFA.
"No fan I spoke to ever wants to set foot in Bulgaria again.”
The firm's website proudly describes the group, calling them "The Usual Suspects", celebrating "25 years of organised violence".
That page does not appear to have been updated since 2017, as the group's logo states they were founded in 1992.
PITCHED BATTLES
However the Facebook page has regular updates from the travelling band of trouble makers, boasting about arranging fights across Bulgaria and Europe.
Scores of shirtless, tattooed skinheads can be seen in various locations where they have allegedly gone to fight rival fans.
Bizarrely most of the recent posts seem to be about their rivals "backing out" of planned battles.
Along with the pictures from their trips are posts about Bulgarian history and a bizarre snap of a Donald Trump waxwork with a Lauta Army jacket held up against it and captioned: "He knows we don't like immigrants too".
A list of 12 rules of engagement regarded as a "code of honour" by members of Bulgaria's firms can be found on the internet.
However these rules do not appear to prohibit some violent acts including eye gouging and fish-hooking, to name but a few.
It was signed by the main hooligan groups for CSKA Sofia, Levski Sofia, Lokomotiv Sofia, Slavia Sofia, Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Botev Plovdiv and more of the main clubs in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria v England: Police arrest six following racist abuse at Euro qualifier - 16/10/2019
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
Bulgarian police have identified 15 fans they suspect are responsible for subjecting black England players to racist abuse and arrested six of them.
The nine not arrested are under police investigation, with three wanted.
England's 6-0 Euro 2020 qualifier win over Bulgaria in Sofia was stopped twice in the first half following racist chanting by home supporters.
"We do not tolerate such behaviour," Bulgaria Ministry of the Interior commissioner Georgi Hadzhiev said.
Bulgaria's football chief Borislav Mikhailov resigned on Tuesday.
Bulgaria manager Krasimir Balakov said after the game he "didn't hear" any chanting, having previously accused England of having a bigger racism problem.
But Balakov has since posted a statement on Facebook, acknowledging the incidents on Monday and apologising to "English footballers and to all those who felt offended".
"I condemn all forms of racism as an unacceptable behaviour that contradicts normal human relations," he added.
Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov became emotional when he was asked on TV how to prevent a similar occurrence in future. He advocated that "fans are not allowed in the stadium or even [face] heavier punishments".
Apparently referring to the five-year European ban imposed on English club sides after 39 people died at Heysel Stadium before the start of the 1985 European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus, he added: "Like in England for years - five years without going to stadiums. People don't deserve to suffer."
Meanwhile, the English Football Association and Uefa have condemned the actions of the 'ultras' section of Bulgaria fans, with Aleksander Ceferin, president of the sport's European governing body, calling for "football family and governments" to "wage war on the racists".
The FA has also offered full support to England players following the racist chanting, with counselling one of the options open to them.
'Stewards joined those chanting'
According to European anti-discrimination body Fare, about 20 stewards joined those involved in racist abuse and far-right activity after taking their hi-vis jackets off.
The European anti-discrimination body had spotters in the crowd and have included their findings in the report they have handed to Uefa.
Fare executive director Piara Powar said: "It is common practice in Eastern Europe. They use security from fan groups as they know their own people. That's the idea but it's not the idea to take off bibs and join in.
"There in lies the problem in some countries. Some of the policing is not fit for purpose.
"We have called for Uefa to kick Bulgaria out of the competition."
Players condemn abuse
England midfielder Jordan Henderson called the behaviour of Bulgaria fans "disgusting", after they were warned for making Nazi salutes and monkey noises.

Ingré U18s physically assaulted by 100 fans & opponents after Coupe Gambardella win
France Bleu report that the Ingré U18s side were physically assaulted by their latest opponents, Bourges-Moulon U18s and the latter side’s fans, during a Coupe Gambardella encounter on Sunday.
Ingré U18s won the match, but what followed was more horrific than should be imaginable on a football pitch. Two of their players were hospitalised after physical assaults from losing Bourges-Moulon U18s players and other spectators. Subsequent legal complaints have been filed following the incident.
After having been 2-0 down, the Ingré players managed to take the game to a draw, before winning the encounter on penalties. After the final whistle, a myriad of punches were thrown at the victorious youngsters.
The Ingré manager, Fabrice Bourdin, described: “genuine scenes of war, players and spectators came to beat us up.” Bourdin had to lie on top of one of his players, who was already badly hurt, just to protect him.
We will watch this story closely, which has affected the club that is responsible for the youth development of Florian Thauvin and others.

Racism in football: Uefa punish Lazio with partial stadium closure for fan behaviour - 16/10/2019
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
Lazio's stadium will be partly closed for their Europa League game against Celtic next month as punishment for racist behaviour by their fans.
It is the first sanction announced by Uefa since European football's governing body said the "football family" must "wage war on the racists".
Partial stadium closure is the minimum punishment Uefa can impose.
Lazio have been fined 20,000 euros (£17,300) and will suffer full stadium closure if they reoffend within a year.
The sanctions relate to incidents during Lazio's 2-1 win over French side Rennes in a Europa League group match on 3 October.
That game was already subject to a partial stadium closure for the racist behaviour of the Serie A side's fans in a Europa League last-32 game against Sevilla in February.
On Tuesday, Uefa defended its record of taking action against racism in the wake of England's Euro 2020 qualifier in Bulgaria, which was suspended twice because of monkey chants and Nazi salutes by home supporters.
Lazio had released a statement prior to Uefa publishing its ruling, protesting against the "deeply damaging" penalty.
They said the decision "seems not to have taken into account the clear condemnation from the club against the odious racist behaviour of a few irresponsible people".
The statement added that Lazio "reaffirms its intention to pursue in penal and civil courts those responsible for unacceptable behaviour".
The Italian side host Celtic in their next European game on 7 November.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid El Clasico decision delayed until Monday - 17/10/2019
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
A decision on when Barcelona's clash against Real Madrid will be held has reportedly been postponed until Monday.
The first Clásico of the season was due to be held at Camp Nou on October 26, but is increasingly likely to be postponed amid political unrest in Catalunya .
It had been hoped a decision could be announced on Friday - but this will not now happen until Monday, according to Spanish publication Marca .
The potential option of switching the game to the Bernabeu is believed to have been dismissed by both Barcelona and Real , so alternative dates have been discussed.
One date that has been touted is December 18, but La Liga do not want the game to be played on a Wednesday.
Calls to rearrange the game came after nine Catalan political leaders were jailed on Monday for between nine and 13 years, for their part in the controversial independence referendum in 2017.
That sparked political unrest in the region, with protests continuing through the week.
The Catalan Football Federation suspended all matches in the region on Monday, although that ruling does not affect La Liga matches or the Spanish national team.

Bulgaria police arrest five more fans over racist abuse of England players - 18/10/2019
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
Police in Bulgaria have arrested a further five fans suspected of subjecting England players to racist abuse during a Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia on Monday.
Bulgarian authorities have so far identified 16 suspects and made 12 arrests.
Four supporters received fines and two-year bans on Thursday, with others remaining under investigation.
England won the match, which was stopped twice in the first half, 6-0.
The first four fans to be punished for the "indecent acts" which included racist chanting and brandishing the Nazi salute were dealt with by Bulgarian police - rather than the country's courts - under Bulgaria's law for the "protection of public order during sports events".
Bulgarian police initially made six arrests, with a seventh following later on Wednesday. Of that group, one is a minor, the Bulgaria Ministry of Interior told BBC Sport.
Borislav Mikhailov, president of Bulgaria's football association, resigned on Tuesday.
Bulgaria manager Krasimir Balakov said after the game he "didn't hear" any chanting but later posted a statement on Facebook acknowledging the incidents.

'Stewards attacked' and 'objects thrown' between Leeds United and Birmingham City fans as violence mars end of Championship match at Elland Road
The Football Association are likely to be called to investigate crowd disturbances at the end of the match between Leeds United and Birmingham City.
Objects were allegedly thrown between the two sets of supporters at Elland Road after the final whistle while videos showed punches being thrown at stewards by visiting fans.
Arrests were made while at least one steward is said to have been injured in the trouble after fans are alleged to have punched and kicked them as they attempted to find the fan that made his way onto the pitch during the game.
There was online footage which appeared to show some Blues fans chanting and singing towards Leeds fans after their 1-0 defeat, while some other videos seemed to show fans that pointed and hollered for police to back down.
Others appeared to goad and make fun of police officers as they came closer.
The ugly scenes then continued outside the ground where there was a tense stand-off as police horses were drafted in to keep rival fans apart.

Police arrest 11 during trouble at Leeds v Birmingham game
There was disorder both inside and outside United's Elland Road stadium, West Yorkshire Police said.
Birmingham fans clashed with police and stewards at the final whistle and then there was a "public order incident" in the coach park, the force said.
The arrests were mainly for public order offences. Minor injuries to several match stewards were reported.
BBC Leeds sports editor Jonathan Buchan described on Twitter "terrible" scenes inside the stadium from Birmingham City fans, with "a few stewards receiving punches and kicks as they tried to apprehend a Birmingham fan who ran onto the pitch".
Police said officers were deployed between supporters outside the ground for about 45 minutes before fans dispersed.
Match commander Ch Insp Jon Arrowsuch said the 11 arrests were made both inside and outside the stadium.
"Clearly these were scenes no-one would wish to see and we will be examining CCTV footage and working with both clubs as we investigate what took place," he said.

All these men have been handed football bans after causing trouble from Home Park to Wembley
Thousands of Plymouth Argyle fans loyally attend games up and down the country and are a credit to their club and their city.
But a small number are caught up in violence, invade the pitch or spout racist abuse.

Football Banning Orders must be for three years at least and are compulsory for offences relating to the game - even travelling to a ground or before or after matches.
Supporters are banned from Home Park and cannot even enter Central Park on matchdays.
