Roma tweet apology to Sampdoria's Ronaldo Vieira for racist boos from fans
AS Roma have vowed to ban the fans responsible for aiming racist abuse at Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira during a 0-0 Serie A draw on Sunday and took to social media to apologise for the incident.
Italian news network ANSA reported that the 21-year-old was targeted with monkey chants by travelling supporters at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Roma's official Twitter account said: "AS Roma would like to apologise to Ronaldo Vieira for the racist boos he was subjected to.
"Roma does not tolerate racism of any kind and the club will support the authorities in identifying and subsequently banning any individuals found guilty of racially abusing the midfielder."
The chants were heard coming from the away end, occupied by around 2,000 Roma fans, during the first half. The abuse continued and was noted by fourth official Antonio Giua.
"I heard it but I don't want to talk about it. This happens too often, it shouldn't be this way," Vieira told Rai Sport.
Corriere dello Sport reported that an announcement was made on the stadium loudspeaker warning fans that the match would be suspended if the chants continued.
Vieira was born in Guinea-Bissau but has represented England at youth level, having moved to the country at a young age.
He joined Sampdoria from Leeds United in 2018.
Last month, Roma banned a fan for life for sending racist insults to defender Juan Jesus on social media.
There have already been several incidents of racism in Serie A this season.
Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku received abuse from Cagliari fans in September and a game was briefly suspended when Fiorentina defender Dalbert said he had been racially abused by Atalanta supporters.

Bayern fans attacked ahead of Olympiakos match, 4 hurt
Greek police say four visiting Bayern Munich fans have been injured during an attack by suspected Olympiakos supporters ahead of the two clubs’ Champions League match. Police said about 80 men, many in motorcycle helmets or armed with clubs, invaded a training ground in Athens where the Olympiakos and Bayern Under-19 sides were playing and started battering Germans in the stands.
No arrests were reported, and the extent of the four Bayern fans’ injuries was not immediately known.

Tottenham launch investigation after 200 Red Star Belgrade fans 'illegally obtained' tickets for Champions League clash
Tottenham Hotspur have launched a full investigation in order to understand how a group of Red Star Belgrade supporters were able to “illegally obtain” tickets to Tuesday night’s Champions League match.
Uefa had banned Red Star fans from attending the game after being found guilty of racism in a qualifying match in Finland earlier this year.
Tottenham were unable to put tickets for the match on general sale because there were fears that Red Star fans would buy them, leading to a reduced capacity at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But a group of away supporters, estimated to be around 200, were able to make their way into the ground before congregating in the North Stand. The group was too large to eject, Tottenham said, with police and stewards instead circling the supporters for most of the match.
“Red Star supporters illegally obtained individual tickets on Level 5 and made their way around to one section of the stadium in order to congregate as a group,” said a Tottenham spokesman.
“Stewards and police contained the group as it was too large a number to eject. We have launched a full investigation in order to understand how tickets have been acquired. We shall take the strongest possible action against any individual found to have sold their ticket on.”

Celtic Glasgow - SS Lazio - 24/10/2019
Source : https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/
Italian Special Operations police coming to Parkhead for Celtic clash with Lazio
Specialist Operations police are coming from Italy to Scotland to monitor up to 300 Lazio football fans.
Officers from the force's General Investigations and Special Operations Division (DIGOS) will be tracking between 200-300 “ultras” before, during and after their match with Celtic tomorrow night.
The crack squad is being dispatched in a bid to stop fans from the Rome club causing trouble at Parkhead at the Europa League tie. The unit usually investigates mass riots, terrorism and organised crime.
Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport reported that around 1500 supporters will be arriving in Glasgow tomorrow. It is understood they will be escorted by Scots police.
Uefa ordered Lazio to close the Curva Nord section of their Stadio Olimpico ground for next month’s return fixture over fans' fascist salutes during their game against Rennes. The club identified 20 of their fans involved in the incident.
Lazio officials have warned their followers to behave in Glasgow and help the club avoid further sanctions.
A club statement said: "Scottish law punishes any act of violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance, especially during sporting events.
"We therefore appeal to the civic sense of the fans to avoid behaviour that can generate reactions from local authorities.
"In the same way, Lazio supporters are invited not to fall into provocations and not to provoke away fans in order to avoid putting at risk the safety and security of all the spectators present.
"Unfortunately, lately, despite repeated warnings, part of the supporters has become the protagonist of gestures and songs, including the fascist salutes or discriminatory songs against black players, which have generated economic and disciplinary sanctions against SS Lazio.
"In this sense, it is reiterated that, where similar behaviour is repeated, measures will be taken to defend the reputation and tradition of the club.
"It was recently announced that the SS Lazio was sanctioned with the closure of the Curva Nord for one match - and further sanctions will lead to the automatic closure of the entire Stadio Olimpico."
Police Scotland Chief Superintendent Alan Murray said: "We look forward to welcoming Lazio supporters to Glasgow and officers will be on hand to help as they make their way towards the stadium. We hope the fans enjoy the match on Thursday evening and also enjoy their visit to Glasgow. A comprehensive police plan will, of course, be in place with the appropriate resources allocated to the event."

Unfortunately, things happened to adults and there were acts of violence in the stands of El Campin.
At halftime, fans of Millionaires and Santa Fe were attacked with choirs and words of thick caliber, something common in a game of such tension.
However, things warmed up and the ambassador's followers wanted to go to the platform that belonged to Santa Fe. Police members entered to stop the attacks of the albiazules, and collided in a confrontation that was controlled by the uniformed.

Flamengo fans arrested for plotting Liberators Cup riot
Police in Brazil arrested 19 people in an operation targeting supposed Flamengo football supporters allegedly planning to run amok during this week's Copa Libertadores semi-final against Gremio at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium, officials said.
The two Brazilian clubs have been drawn together in South America's premier continental club tournament and police had been wary of the possibility of hooliganism.
More than 100 members of a WhatsApp group exchanged audio and video messages threatening to "kill cops, steal, cause damage and embarrass Gremio fans" during Wednesday's highly anticipated match between the rival sides, police said in a statement.
They arrested 19 out of 27 people targeted.
State media said one person was shot dead and two others were wounded in the operation in a poor neighbourhood in the city's north.
Police declined to comment.
