Portsmouth FC - Aldershot Town - FA Cup - 09/11/2014

Source : http://www.portsmouth.co.uk

AWAY fans who marred Pompey’s FA Cup tie by causing trouble on Remembrance Sunday have been criticised by shocked local supporters.

Problems flared before the first round clash against Aldershot at Fratton Park yesterday, when a large group of Shots fans descended on the John Jacques pub in Fratton Road, Fratton.

Shocked onlookers said glasses and chairs were thrown and police were called in.

Pompey shareholder Chad Bichard, 24, from Portsmouth, was in the pub at the time.

Mr Bichard said: ‘It’s disgusting. I’ve been to a lot of football games home and away. It kicks off every so often, but for it to happen on Remembrance Sunday of all days.

‘This is a naval town. It’s a day we hold in high regard.

‘It was quite messy but the police did a cracking job. A group of Aldershot fans turned up. It seemed fine. Everyone was just talking.

‘Then all of a sudden there were glasses smashing and bottles being thrown in the air. Police came in with truncheons.

‘The police kept saying “It’s Remembrance Day, calm yourself down.”

‘No-one was going to let anything kick off.

‘They kept singing Aldershot songs.’

‘They [the police] kept them in the corner of the pub. They had a semi-circle around them. We left because of the trouble.’

Hampshire Constabulary said no arrests were made linked to the incident.

But during the FA Cup first round tie at Fratton Park, which ended with a 2-2 draw, two fans were kicked out of the ground by stewards for breaching the rules, although the exact reason for their removal is not known.

A flare was also let off inside the ground, however the person responsible has not been identified.

No-one was injured.

After the final whistle police said one person was arrested at the nearby Milton Arms pub in Milton
Road.

Argentina: Dock Sud - Talleres de Remedios de Escalada - 11/11/2014

Source : http://www.malaysiandigest.com

Two Killed In Argentina Football Brawl

Two Argentine football fans have died after being shot in a street brawl between supporters of rival fourth-tier clubs in Buenos Aires, their families said Tuesday.

The fight erupted Monday when fans of Dock Sud, a club from a working-class neighbourhood in the capital, encountered fans of San Telmo, another local club that is the favorite to win promotion to the third-tier league this season.

Neighbours said the clash soon escalated into a gunfight that drew in riot police and claimed at least three victims.

Family members said San Telmo fans Javier Araujo, 29, and Daniel Sanchez, 28, had died of their wounds.

A third victim is in hospital after being hit in the face by a rubber bullet, San Telmo club officials said.

The brawl erupted after separate matches in which Dock Sud drew 0-0 with Talleres de Remedios de Escalada and San Telmo tied 1-1 against Defensores de Cambaceres.

Under a 2013 law aimed at curbing violence by Argentina’s infamous “barrabravas,” or football hooligans, visiting fans are barred from watching matches at the stadium.

The San Telmo fans, whose side was playing away, had set up a giant outdoor screen to watch their team’s match.

San Telmo supporters said the Dock Sud fans ambushed them, a claim they latter denied.

Argentine cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich condemned the brawl.

“These violent acts are crimes committed by murderers who deserve the harshest punishment,” he told a press conference.

The fight came five days after another between rival factions of supporters of third-tier club Almirante Brown left one person dead and a child wounded.

The latest deaths bring the number of people killed in football-related violence in Argentina to 10 so far this year, according to watchdog group Let’s Save Football (SAF).

The group says football violence has killed 195 people in the South American country in the last four decades.

Galatasaray Hooligans Sought By Police After Turning Arsenal's Emirates Stadium Into Inferno - 11/11/2014

Source : http://www.ibtimes.co.uk

Police are still hunting the Galatasaray football hooligans who threw flares onto the pitch during their sides defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League last month.

Angry scenes erupted in the away end after Danny Welbeck scored Arsenal's second goal in a 4-1 win over the Turkish giants.

The match referee had to delay the game after flares rained down on the pitch, shrouding the Emirates Stadium in smoke.

Galatasaray's goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and captain Wesley Sneijder cleared the pitch of flares and urged their supporters to calm down.

Police are now appealing for help in identifying nine men they would like to speak to in connection with the disorder that took place on Wednesday, 1 October.

During the match a number of individuals were seen to throw lit flares and other items towards the pitch.

One of these flares was thrown at a fire steward who was putting out another flare on the pitch at the time, this flare exploded directly in front of him causing him to fall back onto the ground.

Detective Inspector David Birrell from Specialist Crime and Operations Public Order Branch said: "The possession and use of flares in a public place is a criminal offence and it is wholly unacceptable for supporters to place others at risk through their violent behaviour.

"We will deal robustly with those responsible for disorder, whether inside or outside football venues, and we will arrest and place them before the courts."

Violence erupted before the kick-off when flares were thrown near to the Tollington pub in Hornsey Road, north London.

Two men were arrested before the game for attempting to enter the ground with flares before another five other men were arrested: one for criminal damage, one for being wanted on warrant, two for public order offences and one for throwing a flare onto the pitch.

Germany: Restrictions on hooligan demonstration in Hanover - 15/11/2014

Source : http://www.dw.de

Following a violent demonstration in Cologne, the "Hooligans vs. Salafists" alliance is gathering again. This time, Hanover police have announced restrictions to prevent a recurrence of the chaos three weeks ago.

Police in Hanover have implemented numerous restrictions in preparation for a Saturday demonstration by self-proclaimed "Hooligans against Salafists" (HoGeSa), the alliance of soccer fans and right-wingers who say they fear the rise of Islamism in Europe.
Around 5,000 demonstrators are expected to gather at a designated location (pictured above) behind Hanover's central train station Saturday at 12:00 local time. Hanover's police are taking extra precautions after a similar protest in Cologne three weeks ago turned violent when police, having expected 1,500 protestors, were overwhelmed by the 4,800 who participated.

Here is an overview of the restrictions in Hanover:
Each individual demonstrator will be subject to a body search by police. All alcoholic beverages will be confiscated. At the Cologne demonstration, protesters drank heavily and threw beer bottles at police.
All forms of pyrotechnics are prohibited. Three weeks ago, firecrackers were lit off and thrown at police.
The court has banned a march through the streets following the gathering at the Hanover station. This is precisely when the Cologne demonstration turned violent - following an initially peaceful gathering, likewise at the central train station.
The police will end the demonstration at 16:00 local time. The HoGeSa alliance had requested the right to demonstrate until 17:00.
The music group Kategorie C, which is popular in the right-wing scene and played at the Cologne demonstration, will not be allowed to perform.
For the entire demonstration, a noise level limit of 90 decibels will be in place.

When asked how these restrictions would be enforced, the Hanover police press office said in a statement that demonstrators would be arrested.
Three weeks ago, only a few dozen arrests were made despite the violence that resulted in 49 police injuries. Cologne police afterwards said that officers were instructed to pursue a strategy of "de-escalation" when asked why so few arrests were made.
The Cologne demonstration, the third of its kind in Germany but the first to turn violent, sparked intense debate around the country about whether such demonstrations should be allowed to take place. It also led to questions of how cities can prepare for demonstrations that authorities deem likely to turn violent.
Police had attempted to ban the demonstration, entitled "Europe against the terror of Islamism," earlier this week. The alliance appealed to a district court, which , citing Article Eight of the German constitution, the freedom of assembly.

Germany: Hanover hooligan rally draws close to 3,000 - 15/11/2014

Source : http://www.dw.de

Some 3,000 hooligans and right-wingers have turned up in Hanover for a rally against radical Islamism. Police are attempting to prevent the demo from turning violent like a similar one did three weeks ago in Cologne.

Around 5,000 demonstrators had been expected to gather behind Hanover's central train station on Saturday, following a similar protest in Cologne three weeks ago that turned violent when police, having expected 1,500 protestors, were overwhelmed by the 4,800 who participated.
A DW correspondent at the Hanover station quoted police saying around 2600 participants had turned up two hours after the demonstration began, tweeting that counter-demonstrators, "a stone's throw away," had outnumbered the hooligans.

"There's no violence, and the scene is rather quiet, despite thousands of police, some mounted on horseback. There are also massive vehicles armed with water cannon." said DW's Alexander Drechsel.

Swindon Town - Bristol City - 15/11/2014

Source : http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk

Police v fans: the other derby clash

I WAS with senior officers from Wiltshire Police for their derby day operation and witnessed the extent of the aggression and unpredictability they face.

“We’ve spent the last 20 years, as an organisation, getting really good at public order and it’s that command structure which makes it work,” said Inspector Dave Minty.

“We know only one per cent of people coming today are intent on violence. We still have to be here because actually we know three per cent aren’t intent on violence, but will join in if it kicks off.”

Briefings for Wiltshire Police staff began at 6.30am on Saturday morning, in time for the first of the Bristol City fans to start arriving from 9am.

The Great Western Hotel was the away fans’ designated pub, assigned to limit the chances of mixing with home supporters, but moving them on to the game is the tricky part.

A box, as officers called it, is created to surround the mob of 500, potentially boozed-up Bristol fans, with horses from Thames Valley Police at the front and rear and officers making up the perimeter on foot.

The box is guided, not forced, as Insp Minty was keen to stress, down the full-length of Station Road before turning into County Road and on to the ground itself.

As the clock ticked nearer 3pm, you could feel the rise in tension.

More officers appeared to counter the rapid influx of Town fans, the welcoming committee for those away supporters marching in.

The tribes come within 10 feet of each other, a single-file line of 30 officers and a handful of horses, keeping them apart.

Bottles, cans and chants are exchanged and the line bows, but the officers hold them, under great stress, but they hold them.

Do the officers fear for their own safety?

“No. We’ve got the kit, we’ve got the skills,” said Insp Minty. “There’s a level of experience. The officers that were getting right in people’s faces will know what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. It’s not about a use of violence, it’s about demonstrating that we’re being robust: ‘you’re not coming through’.

“If you stand back, it gives the impression they’re going to come on to us. Almost counter-intuitively, by getting close-up amongst them, we’re using less violence than if they come at you – you have to act.

“The horses are very intimidating. They’re two-tonne of muscle with a brain of its own and a rider sat on top, which is much scarier than I could ever be.”

Once the fans are inside and the match kicks off, much of the onus is on the stewards to perform the role they execute all season long.

The police are keen to reinforce their colleagues, but will not get involved unless asked.

In this case, the only serious problems were two smoke grenades from the away end, which were quickly dealt with.

During the first half of the match Insp Minty, who led police operations in and around the ground for the day, reflected on the role police play.

“You have to bear in mind who we are dealing with. If the police weren’t there, and this is an honest opinion now, not that of the police force, a lot would have disappeared,” he said.

“Because we’re there, supporters know there’s an element of safety for them. If we’d have walked away, which we never would do, you would have had some dangerous elements there and it would’ve been horrible.

“Sometimes it’s frustrating for us. We are really well trained, but we’re concentrating on disorder and suddenly a family will come in front of you. There’s an expectation from them the police are superhuman and ‘we’ll just look after you madam’."

Italy - Croatia - 16/11/2014

Source : http://www.foxnews.com + local press

Police arrest 16 Croatia fans for interrupting Euro 2016 qualifier in Italy with fireworks

Police have arrested 16 Croatia fans for interrupting a European Championship qualifier against Italy by throwing fireworks onto the field.

Sunday's match at the San Siro was suspended twice and the referee ordered the players off the field during the second half.

Play was halted in the first half for a few minutes and then late in the match it was stopped for 10 minutes, when there also appeared to be a small fire in the stands. Riot police waded into the stands and eventually the final 17 minutes were played.

The match finished 1-1.

Croatia coach Niko Kovac, who pleaded with fans to calm down, says, "this is not football. This is not a fair image of our country or our people."

Argentina: One dead in Argentina football violence - 12/11/2014

Source : http://www.therakyatpost.com

One person was killed and three hurt when football hooligans in Argentina shot at each other Wednesday, in the latest violence to tarnish the sport in the country.
Police rushed in and fired rubber bullets and tear gas to separate rival fans from the Ituzaingo club in the fifth tier of Argentine football, witnesses said.
The clashes, which erupted outside Ituzaingo’s stadium west of Buenos Aires, saw the game against visiting Victoriano Arenas postponed because the tear gas drifted into the arena.
Wednesday’s fatality of a 32-year-old brings the number of football-related deaths this year to 11, according to watchdog group Let’s Save Football.
Two Argentine football fans died after being shot in a street brawl between supporters of rival fourth-tier clubs in Buenos Aires, their families said Tuesday.
The group says football violence has killed nearly 200 people in the South American country in the last four decades.

Basket: Levski Sofia - Partizan Belgrade - 15/11/2014

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk + http://www.gol.bg

Basketball match between Levski Sofia and Partizan Belgrade suspended for 50 minutes after fans clash in stands.

The Adriatic League basketball match between Levski Sofia and Partizan Belgrade on Saturday was interrupted for almost an hour after the end of the first quarter due to violence among fans.
Fights broke out in the Universiada Hall's stands and then more than 100 supporters invaded the court, clashing with security staff and throwing seats, chairs and other objects.
'This is unprecedented,' sports journalist Kamen Alipiev told state TV during live coverage of the game with TV footage showing several injured people.

'Such a thing never happened in Bulgarian basketball,' he said, adding that Levski could expect the heaviest fine in Bulgarian basketball history.
The stewards and the two team's players and coaches were unable to calm the hooligans down and baton-wielding police arrived in the hall to restore order.
The match continued following a 50-minute break in an empty hall after visitors Partizan said they would only play behind closed doors. The Serbian side won the game 98-66 after being 21-14 down before the clashes.
The interior ministry said 12 people were arrested following the ugly incidents, adding that an investigation continues and other people involved in the skirmishes could be arrested.

Liverpool FC fan: Madrid police broke my hand, left me in jail for two days and cost us £500 for new flights home- 15/11/2014

Source : http://www.kopsource.com

A Liverpool FC fan today broke his silence and described how Spanish police broke his hand and chucked him in jail in Madrid after he accidentally spilled his beer on an officer.

Rob Smith was with Reds fans enjoying a peaceful drink in the Plaza Mayor square, the day before Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid earlier this month, when armed cops waded in.

Trying to herd supporters into a corner, the tactic caused the 26-year-old to lose his balance, and some of his beer slopped onto one officer’s uniform.

The chef said he was immediately grabbed by baton-wielding officers who managed to break his hand as they grappled with him on the Monday afternoon before the game.

And Rob described how his fingers turned dangerously black after heavy-handed officers clasped handcuffs on his wrist which were far too tight.

The fan, from Upton, Wirral, was thrown in a police cell, and kept their for two nights, missing the showpiece game at the Bernabeu and also his flight back to the UK.

X-rays have since confirmed Rob has broken a bone in his hand and he has been signed off work for at least a fortnight.

After nearly 35 hours in a cell, the cook, who works in New Brighton, was put before a judge who immediately dismissed the case and allowed him to leave.

Rob’s brother and friend had waited for his release, meaning they also missed their booked flights home, leaving the party out of pocket by close to £500.

The Red has made a complaint to the British Embassy in Madrid and Rob claims his solicitor wants him to return to the capital shortly for a fresh case alleging police brutality.

The fan ended up in a cell next door to Gareth Lupton, another Liverpool supporter who was wrongly arrested for kicking a football, and whose story was exclusively revealed in the ECHO last week.

Rob said: “The whole thing was a nightmare. I was just holding two beers when the police surrounded us, and one knocked me on the hand with a baton.

“It meant I accidentally spilled my drink on one of them. I was kneed in the face, and left with a broken hand. The officers said they were charging me with assaulting them, resisting arrest and using foul language.

“They put me in handcuffs, and I watched my fingers turning black. I couldn’t feel them at all for 30 minutes afterwards. The hospital bandaged me up and gave me painkillers, but at the prison, police refused to give me them, claiming they couldn’t understand me.

“My Spanish solicitor said it was outrageous and wants me to take it further, but what’s the point?

“The cell was horrible. Gareth, the lad arrested for kicking the ball was next to me, so we ended up talking to each other about what had happened.

“I was in a cell with a French bloke called Papiss. It was horrible, there was just people going to the toilet in the corner of the room on the floor.

“Sleep was impossible over both nights because of all the banging and screaming.”

And Rob said the experience has put him off travelling abroad with his team again.

“It was my first European game with Liverpool. I won’t be doing it again.”
