UGLY SCENES AS FAR RIGHT CONTROL POLAND’S INDEPENDENCE DAY MARCH - 11/11/2020

Thousands took part in the annual far-right march on Poland’s Independence Day in Warsaw, with protesters clashing with police at several locations, leaving many wounded on both sides.
The thousands of protesters attending Poland’s Independence Day march on Wednesday under the slogan, “Our civilisation, our principles”, were particularly aggressive this year, clashing with the police at several locations just a few hours into the march and even causing an apartment to catch fire.

Over the past few years, the march – a commemoration of the reunion of Poland in 1918 after more than a century of partition – has turned into a massive far-right fest, with tens of thousands usually attending. Just two years ago, President Andrzej Duda was still attending the march, depicting it as a patriotic affair. But the look of Warsaw’s streets this year, with banners reading slogans such as “No to Jewish demands”, leaves little doubt as to who is now in charge on this day.

Because of the pandemic, the organisers initially said the event would be “on wheels”, with people joining in their cars or on motorbikes and maintaining social distancing. Warsaw city hall refused to authorise the march this year – because of the pandemic, gatherings of over five people are prohibited – and even the police had expressed reluctance to deal with this event, with many officers saying they intended to take sick leave.

In the end, thousands marched on foot on Wednesday afternoon. Many were the usual young men dressed in dark clothes – oftentimes sporting racist symbols – who usually attend this march. It was also attended by far-right parliamentarians, including former presidential candidate Krzysztof Bosak, a member of the far-right Confederation alliance.

Tensions rose soon after the march started at 2pm. At the Charles de Gaulle roundabout in the centre of the capital, protesters threw rocks and flares, leaving several demonstrators and police wounded, according to the police.

On the Poniatowski bridge in the centre of Warsaw, what appeared to be members of the far-right threw flares at balconies displaying rainbow flags and ‘Women’s Strike’ banners – the movement behind the recent anti-abortion protests – leading to one apartment catching fire and requiring firemen to intervene.

There were further clashes with the police near the National Stadium, where the government has recently built a temporary hospital to treat COVID-19 patients. The police said it had to use force to contain the clashes, including using pepper spray. More than 10 people had been arrested by 5pm.

Romanian authorities said about 1000 Polish hooligans under stadium ban in their country have travelled to Bucarest.
3000 policemen were on duty for that game.
Troubles erutped in the city centre and six Polish fans were arrested.
One of them was also injured at his head.
Weapons and firecrackers were taken by police in a pub.

In front of the stadium police forces used pepper sprays to push Polish hooligans back as they tried to force a police line.

During 1st half, supporters from both countries have exchanged missiles and detonators.
And Romania fans also threw firecrackers in the pitch in direction of Polish goalkeeper.

Finally, 12 Polish an 5 Romanians were arrested.

Protesters of  Kick Out Zwarte Piet (KOZP) were attacked Sunday afternoon in Maastricht by 300 local hooligans. ME needed to intervene.

Major incident between two groups of football hooligans in Stip

Brutal fighting broke out in Stip today between the fans of the local Bregalnica football team and Tikves from Kavadarci. The fan groups – Phalanx and Lozari, provoked a major incident after the Second League match.

The footage clearly shows that a number of fans were injured, and even the police was not spared as they tried to stop the fighting. There are still no reports about arrests.
