Lazio fans still in Warsaw jail - 10/12/2013

Source : http://www.football-italia.net

There are still 22 Lazio fans being held in Polish prisons almost two weeks after a Europa League game against Legia Warsaw.

Before the match on November 28, 149 supporters were held by police, but the vast majority were released after paying fines a few hours or days later.

However, the club and Italian Government are increasingly frustrated that 22 remain in custody and were denied bail.

Reports from Warsaw suggest there were very few problems other than a couple of supporters who threw bottles at riot police.

Many have told Italian newspapers they were arrested in a blind alley when thinking the police would escort them to the stadium for their own safety before the game.

Others still in prison claim they were made to sign a ‘confession’ that was written entirely in Polish and without their lawyers present.

“The news coming from Warsaw is disconcerting and leaves us speechless,” said MP Giorgia Meloni today.

“The judge ignored the pleas of his own Government by denying bail and we are still waiting to know the reasons behind the shameful preventative swoop before the game that led to the arrest of 149 Italians, including women, children and people with disabilities.”

Three Ajax fans stabbed during fighting before Milan game

The Ajax fans fought with both opposing supporters and Italians demonstrating against Enrico Letta's government in running battles throughout the day.

The supporter in the worst condition was knifed in the stomach and the others were wounded in the buttock and leg, a police spokesman said.

"The one with the stomach wound is clearly the most serious but as far as I understand it's not life threatening," he said.

All three were taken to Milan's San Carlo hospital, while a local street salesman also suffered a minor knife wound in the scuffles but was not hospitalised.

Hundreds of police, most with riot gear, were deployed around the stadium and were shepherding Ajax fans into special buses as soon as they exited the metro at Piazza Lotto, according to an AFP reporter at the scene.

Police hunt for two football fans over Arsenal V Napoli Champions League violence - 11/12/2013

Source : http://www.standard.co.uk

Police today released two images of football fans wanted in connection with violence before Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Napoli earlier this year.

Around 30 Napoli fans went on a pre-match rampage at a Highbury restaurant and put one person in hospital ahead of the Emirates Stadium fixture on Tuesday, October 1.

The Italian mob smashed a window and threw chairs at Piebury Corner on Holloway Road, which left one 48-year-old Arsenal fan needing 12 stitches to his head.

Officers from Islington have released the images of two men and would like to speak to anyone who can help with their enquiries.

One 42-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and violent disorder following the unrest.

England : Crystal Palace fan admits violent disorder charge after Brighton brawl - 11/12/2013

Source : http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk

A CRYSTAL Palace fan who denied involvement in a violent brawl with Brighton supporters has changed his plea to guilty.

James Hackett, of Norbury Avenue, Thornton Heath, was one of eight Palace fans on trial after the dust-up near Kings Cross Station on November 10 last year.

Blackfriars Crown Court previously heard how glasses and sandwich boards were thrown, and punches and kicks rained in, as the brawl escalated in a pub.

Police had anticipated there might be trouble but dozens of officers were incorrectly sent to Victoria Station – leaving just two to deal with the violence on the other side of central London.

The court heard how Hackett, 21, could be seen “ jumping up and down in a victory pose, throwing glasses and having a fierce face-to-face confrontation.”

He initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of violent disorder but changed his plea on Tuesday.

Another defendant James Butler, 22, of Beeches Crescent, Crawley, has had the charges against him dropped.

The remaining six, who all deny violent disorder, were awaiting a verdict, with the jury due to be sent out as the Advertiser went to press.

These are; Adam Marshall, 23, of Aston Way, Epsom, Declan Clarke, 22, of Miles Road, Epsom, James Dean, 26, of Rowlands Road, Worthing, Jamie Finch, 23, of Reigate Road, Epsom, Hayden Johnson, 20, of Jesmond Road, Addiscombe, and Dean Kirby, 29, of West Park Road, in Newchapel, Surrey.

Hackett will be sentenced once the other verdicts are in.

The court previously heard how the Palace fans arrived at King’s Cross after their team had played Peterborough United, and the Brighton group arrived at nearby Euston Station following a match against Wolves.

Prosecutor Brendan Morris said: “The Crystal Palace fans went to the Flying Scotsman by King’s Cross where beers and strippers were on the menu.

“A barman expressed concerns that the group were organising themselves. Instead of watching the strippers they were by the door appearing to look down the road. He felt that trouble was on its way.

“The Brighton group had got off a train at Euston and chose to head to the Flying Scotsman. Was it a coincidence, or had the phone activity been the groups arranging to meet? It is not unheard of for these meets to be arranged.

“The landlord said what unfolded was one of the most serious acts of violence he had ever seen.

“The incident starts with goading and chanting. ‘Sea, sea, seasiders’ from the Brighton fans and ‘we’re top of the league’ could be heard from the Crystal Palace fans.

“This was the grandstanding before sandwich boards and glasses, both plastic and pub glasses, were thrown. People fall on the floor and are kicked by several people.

“One Brighton fan rushes blindly into the group of Crystal Palace fans and takes what must have been good beating until the officers managed to intervene and rescue him.

“It was fan against fan, toe-to-toe.”

Austria Vienna - Zenit St Petersburg - 11/12/2013

Source : http://sport.oe24.at + http://uk.reuters.com

Zenit condemn fan violence in Vienna

Zenit St Petersburg condemned violence by their fans during the 4-1 defeat by Austria Vienna in the Champions League on Wednesday, saying the trouble-makers led to the Russian team's poor performance.

Macedonian referee Aleksandar Stavrev interrupted the match in Austria for a few minutes in the first half after a number of flares were thrown from the Zenit fans into the crowd below.

"Zenit strongly condemns the acts of hooliganism which nearly abandoned the Champions League match between our club and Austria Vienna," the Russian league leaders said in a statement on Thursday.

"Obviously, the troubles in the stands influenced our team's performance," Zenit said, adding the club will take actions to hand stadium bans on the hooligans.

Italian coach Luciano Spalletti described the trouble-makers as enemies and also said they should stay away from football grounds.

"The UEFA delegate said that the match can even be abandoned if the troubles continue," the 54-year-old coach told reporters. "It's not the first time we're in such situation due to fans' behaviour."

Last year, Zenit's league match against Dynamo Moscow was abandoned when the Dynamo goalkeeper was injured by firecrackers thrown by fans, leading to 3-0 loss for the St Petersburg team who were also forced to play two home games behind closed doors.

"Role of the fans is very important, they often give additional stimulus to overcome difficult situations in matches," said Spalletti.

"But if our fans come to vandalize, then it would be better if they don't come. We believe these people are our enemies and we don't want to see them in the stands."

Scotland : Five fans arrested over disorder at Motherwell v Celtic game - 12/12/2013

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk

Five people have been arrested in connection with crowd trouble at Friday night's Motherwell v Celtic game.

A reported £10,000 of damage was caused to seats in a section of Fir Park stadium housing Celtic fans.

Police said 18 smoke bombs, one flare and three fireworks were set off. There were also disturbances and vandalism in Motherwell before and after the game.

Celtic suspended 128 fans from their games and relocated 250 season-ticket holders over the trouble.

The club said it was "appalled" by the disorder and issued precautionary suspensions preventing fans from attending home and away matches.

The 250 season-ticket holders being relocated are seated in the Green Brigade's corner of Celtic Park.

England: Shoppers cower as Sunderland and West Ham Utd fans battle - 12/12/2013

Source : http://www.sunderlandecho.com

MEMBERS of the public were forced to cower as football yobs from a gang known as the Sunderland Youth Firm clashed with rival fans in the city centre.

CCTV footage of the organised mass brawl, outside the Revolution bar in Low Row, shows punches and kicks being thrown while bottles were being broken, leaving the pavements covered in shards of glass.

One witness told police they felt “sick to the stomach” by what they saw that day.

Troublemakers then boasted about the violence with West Ham fans, via social networking sites and text messages.

Videos of the fight were also posted on video-sharing website YouTube.

Newcastle Crown Court heard members of the public looked on in fear and were worried for the safety of their children, when the afternoon trouble broke out ahead of the match on January 12.

The yobs were spared jail, but handed football banning orders for three years.

Judge Jeremy Freedman told them: “Football is a source of pleasure to literally millions of people.

“What football hooliganism of the type you engaged in does, is besmirch the good name of football and deter people from going to matches, particularly parents who want to take young children, lest they get caught up in scenes of violence.

“Members of the public can reasonably expect to enjoy the amenities of the town centre without being exposed to this kind of frightening activity.”

Prosecutor Robert Adams told the court the violence itself lasted only about three minutes, by which time police arrived. Mobile phones were seized when the gang was arrested.

Nobody reported any serious injury.

Mr Adams told the court: “It is the Crown’s case that all of the defendants were involved, to some extent in any event, with an organisation self-named the Sunderland Youth Firm.”

Mr Adams said the seized mobile phones showed a series of text message exchanges and boasts on social networking sites both before and after the trouble.

One message said: “Anyone who comes to our city doesn’t leave without a good clip.” Another message, relating to a future game, said: “What are they going to do? Get punched from one end of Sunderland to the other.”

As well as the written messages, the court heard the phones contained pictures and videos of the violence that day.

One of the men declared he “loves football hooliganism” on his Twitter biography.

The court heard the men are not heavily convicted and come from respectable backgrounds.

Defence barrister Christopher Knox said: “The reality is, as soon as the police arrived, everybody ran away.”

Sunderland Chief Superintendent Kay Blyth, said: “There is no place for violence at football matches and we will always do everything possible to make sure those suspected of being involved are traced and put before the courts.”

Football hooligans named and shamed

Lewis Dodsworth, 19, of Bowburn Avenue, Wear View, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours’ unpaid work.

Bradley Dixon, 19, of Patton Road, Plains Farm, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with £1,000 costs.

Thomas Kelly, 19, of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with supervision and 250 hours’ unpaid work.

Former EDL member Anthony Smith, 26, of Purvis Terrace, Trimdon, who claimed to love hooliganism on his Twitter page, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with supervision and 250 hours’ unpaid work.

Connor McCoy, 21, of Perth Avenue, Jarrow, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours’ unpaid work and 12 months supervision.

Paratrooper Jamie Phenny, 21, of The Spinney, Bridgend, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with £1,000 costs.

Christopher Webb, 24, of East Herrington, Sunderland, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with supervision and an alcohol treatment programme.

All pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder at an earlier hearing.

England: Derby-day brawls, suspects hunted - 13/12/2013

Source : http://www.thestar.co.uk

Police in Rotherham investigating a disturbance at a town centre pub have released CCTV images of people they would like to speak to in connection with the incident. At around 5.30pm on Saturday 7 September, officers were called to reports of a disturbance at the Corn Law Rhymer pub in High Street.

One victim was left with injuries to his face when hooligans clashed in bars after Blades fans travelled from Sheffield to the New York Stadium for the first derby of the season against the Millers.

After the game, brawls broke out both inside and outside two pubs in Rotherham town centre – The Corn Law Rhymer in High Street and The Rhinoceros in Bridgegate.

The incident in The Corn Law Rhymer broke out just 45 minutes after the final whistle.

A 46-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray, and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Officers trawled CCTV footage of the incident on Saturday, September 7.

They have released images of four men they believe could hold vital information.

An hour later, at 6.30pm, officers were called to Rhinos following reports of another fight, where they found a man with facial injuries.

Detectives investigating that attack have released images of another three men they want to trace.

Chief Inspector Ian Womersley, responsible for operational policing in Rotherham, said he believed each incident was ‘isolated’ but that both were linked to the football derby.

“One was in The Corn Law Rhymer and the other in Rhinos, where people were injured in disturbances witnessed by members of the public both inside and outside the pubs,” he said.

“They appear to be two separate incidents which happened some time after the game in local public houses and were believed to involve opposing supporters.

“It involved a small minority of fans, and the fact we can release these good quality CCTV images demonstrates the value of the cameras.”

He said fans convicted of the pub attacks would be served with football banning orders and banned from Rotherham town centre pubs as a ‘deterrent’ to other football yobs.

Chf Insp Womersley said officers had been carrying out ‘a unique piece of work’ around the policing of football matches, involving home visits to know trouble-makers before games.

“Police officers have been really proactive prior to football games, in that they have been visiting a small number of people previously involved in incidents of disorder to speak to them, or their parents if they are juveniles, and warning that should they become involved in any more trouble we will be seeking football banning orders and pub bans too,” he said.

“The results have been very good.”

Football fan shot and killed in Buenos Aires

A teenager was shot in the head and killed in Buenos Aires early Friday after a Boca Juniors "supporters` day" erupted into violence, police and witnesses said.

The young victim, who was named as Rafael Ruiz, 19, was on a train from the festivities with hundreds of other fans when they were shot at from a van, witnesses said.

He was hit in the head and chest and died on the way to hospital. Police were investigating whether supporters from another club were to blame or if it was a rival Boca Juniors gang.

Shops were attacked when the mood turned sour and supporters clashed with police. Twenty-two people were arrested.

Celtic fined £42,000 for Green Brigade's Bobby Sands banner - 13/12/2013

Source : http://www.heraldscotland.com

UEFA's control and disciplinary body met on Wednesday and announced the outcome today.

The banner displayed at the AC Milan Champions League match showed images of IRA hunger striker Sands and Scottish nationalist icon William Wallace, along with a set of lyrics that included the line: 'The terrorist or the dreamer?'

UEFA rules prohibit messages of a political and ideological nature being displayed in a stadium.

The Green Brigade insisted they were football-related as they were designed to protest against the Scottish Government's Offensive Behaviour at Football Act and Police Scotland's implementation of the legislation, which it claims has criminalised expressions of Irish politics.

But Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell demanded supporters leave their political views at home after UEFA announced the action.

And manager Neil Lennon admitted his ''heart sank'' when he saw the display, arguing it was neither the time nor place for such a demonstration.

The club said in a statement today: "Clearly it is extremely disappointing that the club must pay another sizeable penalty following the actions of a small minority, particularly given the previous assurances which were made to the club and the widespread understanding of the likely outcome of such actions.

"Regrettably, due to previous charges being brought against the club, again following the actions of a small minority, the fines imposed by UEFA are increasing in scale.

"It goes without saying that such actions must stop now, before the club receives a competitive sanction or one which would affect our supporters attending European matches.

"We are Celtic supporters and we must now move on and look ahead to tomorrow's match against Hibernian. We are sure our fans will come together, unite with the club and support the team with the commitment and passion we are famous for, ensuring that Celtic Park once again provides a positive footballing occasion for all."

The club have already moved to separate the Green Brigade at Parkhead after a number of seats were vandalised, in the section containing Brigade members, and pyrotechnics were let off and thrown on the pitch when Celtic beat Motherwell at Fir Park last Friday night.

The club handed ''precautionary suspensions'' to 128 supporters preventing them from attending home and away matches, while 250 season ticket-holders housed in section 111 - the Green Brigade's corner of Celtic Park - will be moved to other parts of the ground or given refunds on season tickets.

Police made five arrests on Thursday over the Motherwell disturbances.

Celtic were fined 15,000 euros (£12,500) two years ago after supporters chanted pro-IRA slogans during a Europa League match against Rennes in France.

They were then handed a further 25,000 euros (£21,000) punishment after their followers unfurled a banner reading "F*** UEFA" and set off flares during a later match in the same competition at Italian side Udinese's Stadio Friuli home.

Another incident involving a flare, this time at Celtic Park for August's Champions League qualifier against Cliftonville, saw the Hoops receive another 5,000 euros (£4,200) penalty three months ago.

UEFA has fined Eintracht Frankfurt 70,000 euros ($96,000) for the behaviour of its record 12,000 travelling fans at a Europa League match in Bordeaux.

UEFA says the sanctions were imposed for crowd disturbances and setting off fireworks.

Eintracht has been fined increasing amounts by UEFA for fans breaking rules by lighting flares inside stadiums.

UEFA cited the size of the German club's support in Bordeaux on Nov. 28 as a record for a Europa League group stage match.

The men were reacting to the game between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur which West Ham won 3-0. Their comments included references to Adolf Hitler and the gas chambers.

One 24-year-old man was arrested a his home in Croydon and the other, a 22-year-old, was also arrested at his home, this time in Wiltshire.

The three men have all been bailed until January.

England : Football hooligans jailed for 31 years for attack on rival fans at a family pub that sent shoppers fleeing for safety - 13/12/2013

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Lincoln City thugs attacked by Luton Town supporters
Customers fled as bar stools and glasses were launched across pub
Judge describes the louts as being like 'a pack of hyenas'

A notorious gang of football hooligans who attacked rival fans at a busy family pub, sending customers fleeing for safety, were today jailed for a total of years 31 years.
The assault by Lincoln City thugs on a group of Luton Town supporters was described as some of the worst football violence seen in recent years.
CCTV footage showed the gang, who call themselves the Lincoln Transit Elite, launching their attack both inside and outside the Ritz pub on Lincoln High Street.

The court was told how members of the gang entered the pub around 1pm and approached a group of Luton fans drinking at the corner of the bar.
A Luton fan was punched, sparking violence which ultimately saw bar stools and glasses launched across the busy dining area packed with shoppers and families. Customers were forced to flee from the area in terror and cower from missiles.

Twelve men from Lincoln admitted a charge of violent disorder before the Football Conference game between Lincoln City and Luton Town on October 6, 2012.
Passing sentence Judge Sean Morris told them: 'You were like a pack of hyenas. It was a miracle no one was seriously hurt.
'This was an extremely violent episode of public disorder. In the five minutes it lasted members of the public were put on extreme danger.'
Nathan Ashmore,33, Lee Swain, 26, Phillip Adams,36, Ashley Evans,22, and Andrew Deans, 27, were all jailed for three years.

Marcus Greatorex, 22, and Jake Sinclair, 26, were each jailed for 32 months. Callum Busby, 19, received 32 months youth custody.
Joshua Atter,18, was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institution. Liam Wiggins, 18, received 25 months youth custody.
Daniel White, 20, and Thomas Samways, 20, were each sentenced to 28 months youth custody. Each was given a 10 year football banning order.
Lincolnshire Police football intelligence officer Andy Pearson said: 'There were people of all ages in there, retired people and people with young children having food in a safe environment.
'The fact stools have been used, chairs, glasses and crockery have been thrown in such a short space of time it is some of the worst violence we have seen in a number of years.
'There have been incidents of disorder in the past but this violence and the fact weapons were used made it terrifying for those in the pub.'

PC Pearson said there were three groups of Lincoln hooligans, known as the 'Lincoln Transit Elite', which could number in excess of 200 people.
'Someone could have been far more seriously injured from a result of a discarded thrown item. We accept that football disorder domestically has not gone away.
'The sentences will serve as a deterrent to anyone thinking of getting involved in public disorder but Lincolnshire Police’s football intelligence unit will remain focussed.'
CCTV footage picked up some of the gang regrouping opposite the pub after the initial attack before launching another barrage of violence against another group of Luton supporters outside.
Punches were thrown and kicks aimed at the rival fans before a steel chair was thrown at them.

Brazilian club gets 12-match home ban for violence - 13/12/2013

Source : http://www.newsobserver.com

Brazil's sports tribunal ruled Friday that Atletico Paranaense will have to play 12 soccer games away from home next year because of the fan violence that marked the final round of the Brazilian league last weekend.

The tribunal also said Vasco da Gama, the visiting team in the southern city of Joinville on Sunday, will play eight home matches away. Both clubs will have to play half of the games in empty stadiums.

Atletico Paranaense also was fined about $50,000 and Vasco nearly $35,000.

The tribunal said Atletico Paranaense was punished for failing to provide adequate security as the host team, while Vasco failed to take proper action to prevent the violence from happening.

The clubs said they will appeal and a new trial was set for Dec. 27.

The punishment only applies to matches organized by the Brazilian federation, meaning the teams will be allowed to play at home during the regional championships that start next month.

Because of the sanctions, Atletico Paranaense will likely have to delay its debut in the Arena da Baixada, its new stadium being built for the World Cup.

The match last weekend was being played in Joinville instead of Atletico's base in Curitiba because it had already been punished because of fan violence.

Hundreds of fans from both teams charged against each other in the stands, throwing punches and kicks and using sticks and metal bars in the fighting that left four people injured, including a man who had to be airlifted from the pitch.

The disturbing images from the fight quickly made their way around the world, raising doubts about Brazil's preparedness to host the World Cup next year.

About 80 private security officers were separating the rival fan sections at the Arena Joinville, and the fighting only ended after police arrived firing rubber bullets to disperse the fans.

World Cup organizers have said a similar problem is very unlikely to happen during soccer's showcase tournament next year, when several hundred security guards are expected to work at each match. Nearly 900 worked at Confederations Cup matches this year. They also claim that the dangerous fan groups common in club matches will not be among the World Cup crowd.

The tribunal on Friday also said the local federations and the match referee were not at fault for the incidents in Joinville.

Vasco da Gama, which was relegated after losing the match 5-1, wanted the result annulled because the referee did not follow regulations when he waited 73 minutes to restart the game after the brawl. Tournament regulations say the maximum time is 60 minutes. But the sports tribunal denied the team's request on Thursday, meaning the club will have to play in the second division for the second time in five years.

England : Football yob avoids jail over Sunderland-West Ham brawl - 14/12/2013

Source : http://www.shieldsgazette.com

A SOUTH Tyneside football yob described as a “genuinely decent member of society” has been slapped with a banning order after a violent clash between rival fans.

Simon Badham avoided jail after admitting violent disorder following a mass street brawl between Sunderland and West Ham supporters.

The 21-year-old, from Frobisher Street, Hebburn, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours’ unpaid work. He was also given a three-year banning order.

Badham was one of four men to appear at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced over the violence, which erupted outside Revolution bar in Sunderland on January 12.

Judge Jeremy Freedman said Badham is usually a “genuinely decent member of society”.

Also sentenced was Kevin Bilton, 51, of Lambton Drive, Hetton, who admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 100 hours of unpaid work.

Sean Herron, 19, of Hogarth Drive, Columbia, Washington, who handed in a stash of testimonials to his usually positive character, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours of unpaid work.

Shaun Baker, 29, of Gainsborough Square, Sunderland, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years with £500 costs.

All pleaded guilty to violent disorder and were given three-year football banning orders.

Judge Freedman said he accepted the men were ashamed of what they had done, and accepted none of them had been involved in the organising of the brawl by the Sunderland Youth Firm and rival supporters.
