Four arrests at Pools match

FOUR football fans were arrested after trouble flared during Hartlepool United’s clash with Doncaster Rovers at the weekend.

Police and stewards became involved in the incident, which took place in the Rink End where the visiting supporters were seated, shortly after Pools took the lead in Saturday’s game.

Two 17-year-olds, a 19-year-old and a 22-year-old were arrested on suspicion of affray and taken to Hartlepool Police Station for questioning.

They have since been bailed, pending further inquires.

All four were from the Doncaster area and no Hartlepool fans were involved in the incident.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Four males were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been interviewed and bailed until mid-November.”

Hartlepool United did not wish to comment on the matter.

The attendance at the game was 4,406, with 625 away fans.

The game ended 1-1, with the visiting team scoring a late equaliser.

Millwall and West Ham fans mass brawl at Camden gig - 16/10/2012

Source : http://www.standard.co.uk

Season 12/13 - October - Page 3 688271millwallwhu

Police in riot gear halted a rock concert in north London and arrested six men after a fight broke out between rival football fans on the dance floor.

The performance by Kid British, who were playing their last gig in London before they split up, was just three songs in when the fight started.

Witnesses told of seeing around 50 Millwall and West Ham fans enter the Camden Barfly and chant at each other before a mass brawl broke out.

One music fan at the gig wrote on a website that “all hell broke loose” when a moshpit started three songs into the set by the Manchester band.

He wrote: “[The football fans] just all started beating the c**p out of each other, there were four older men in Burberry suits at the back standing trying to act hard who were somehow involved and initiating it.

“The men from the mosh kept coming to them and these men were telling them to beat up these innocent guys, it was disgusting.”

Police rushed into the venue in Chalk Farm Road at 9.55pm and arrested six men for public order offences and being drunken and disorderly.

The blogger wrote: “[They] continued to chant and shout about f**king Millwall and West Ham as the police literally dragged them out of the venue. “The Barfly shut down we were forced outside by police, who were trying to control the pricks who had all formed a group in the middle of the road jumping up and down.”

The band, who announced they were splitting up earlier this year and are currently playing their farewell tour, retweeted angry comments by fans on their Twitter page.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said six people had been arrested on suspicion of causing violent disorder.

Shrewsbury Town - Walsall - 14/10/2012

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk

Four fans charged after clashes at Shrewsbury Town v Walsall match

West Mercia Police said 11 other people were arrested and bailed or released without charge when Shrewsbury Town played Walsall on Sunday.

A spokesperson said the four charged were given football banning orders.

Ch Insp Dave McWilliam said: "A number of people had been intent on causing trouble, some of it pre-planned."

A spokesperson said three police officers had minor injuries while making the arrests.

A 33-year-old man from Walsall, a 17-year-old boy from Walsall and a 46-year-old man from Shrewsbury were each charged with a public order offence.

Another Walsall man, aged 20, has been charged with causing criminal damage.

15 arrested as trouble mars Shrewsbury Town derby game

Fifteen people were arrested and three police officers injured as trouble marred Shrewsbury Town’s derby day game against Walsall.

Seven people were arrested for violent disorder following a fight in the Mardol area of the town centre between two large groups before the match yesterday.

And a number of other incidents also took place inside and outside the ground, with one person arrested for alleged racist chanting.

Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “Police officers were quickly on the scene and dispersed the groups making a number of arrests both at the scene and later as offenders were identified.

“Other arrests related to minor public order offences, possession of drugs and criminal damage both inside and outside the stadium. One arrest was made for being in breach of a banning order and for racist chanting in the stadium.”

Three police officers were injured – with two needing hospital treatment at the Princess Royal Hospital – as they made arrests.

Jane Fitzpatrick, duty inspector for West Mercia, said two of the officers received injuries to their legs, with another officer suffering minor injuries around the face.

Chief Inspector Dave McWilliam said a number of people had been intent on causing trouble, some of it pre-planned.

But he said the police operation had prevented problems escalating any further.

Superintendent James Tozer, writing on his Twitter account, said the majority of people had been well-behaved and he praised police and the football club for their efforts to curb trouble.

Serbia - England (U 21) - 16/10/2012

Source : http://www.washingtonpost.com

Serbian football could be penalized after fans racially abuse black English players

The racial abuse that black English players suffered during a soccer match in Serbia wasn’t the first time such problems have occurred at the hands of Serbian fans. On Tuesday, the under-21 England players suffered abuse in Krusevac, Serbia, including monkey chants and objects thrown onto the field. The British government is now urging UEFA to impose “tough sanctions” against Serbia, and the decision could be influenced by similar problems in the past.

POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES

UEFA President Michel Platini had warned Serbia in February 2011 of possible expulsion of its clubs and the national team from international competitions, if its notorious fans continued to cause trouble. Platini personally issued the warning during a meeting with Serbia’s former President Boris Tadic in Belgrade. In 2007, the Serbian Football Association was fined a small amount — >16,000 — after supporters racially abused England players at the under-21 Euros in Holland.

SERBIAN FANS

The nation’s soccer fans are notorious for causing trouble at home and abroad. UEFA awarded Italy a 3-0 win over Serbia after a European Championship qualifier in Genoa, Italy, in 2010 was stopped when Serbia supporters threw flares and fireworks onto the field, burned a flag and broke barriers. Police then clashed with Serbian fans outside the stadium. A Belgrade court last year convicted 14 Serbian fans and sent them to prison for the fatal beating of a French soccer fan in the capital before Partizan Belgrade’s Europa League football match against Toulouse, France, in September 2009.

FAR-RIGHT GROUPS

Football fan organizations in Serbia have been infiltrated by extreme right-wing groups who propagate anti-Western xenophobia and intolerance toward foreigners, blacks, ethnic groups and minorities, including gays. The notoriety of the fans dates back to the wars in the Balkans when they were recruited to fight rival Bosnian Muslims and Catholic Croats as paramilitary forces, including the late warlord Zeljko Raznatovic’s “Arkan’s Tigers.” Groups of football fans also have allegedly been involved in drug trafficking and other illegal trade.

SERBIA’S GOVERNMENT

Despite repeated pledges to crack down on violent soccer fan groups, Serbia’s authorities have done little to prevent such problems. Instead, they have repeatedly bowed to threats from such groups, including when police cancel gay pride marches after extremists threaten to attack them.

Football IN THE BALKANS

Serbia’s fans are not the only troublemakers in the Balkan region. Platini has also warned Croatia of severe punishment if its right-wing extremist fans continue racial abuses against black players and chanting pro-Nazi songs that usually target rival Serbs. Despite repeated incidents since the warning last year, UEFA has only imposed financial punishments of the Croatian Football Association.

Serbs, Albanians throw stones, bottles at each other in Skopje

Bulgarian police arrest 21 over violence before Sofia derby - 17/10/2012

Source : http://football.uk.reuters.com

Bulgarian police on Wednesday arrested 21 football fans in connection with crowd violence this season, three days before the highly-charged Sofia derby.

"Detectives had spent recent weeks examining evidence, including pictures and video footage of the trouble," police said in a statement, adding further arrests were planned.
Police said the trouble-makers had been arrested for violence at eight domestic league games and Bulgaria national team matches, all of which took place in Sofia.
CSKA Sofia play bitter city rivals Levski in the 140th "eternal derby" on Saturday with organisers expecting a big crowd after Bulgaria's decent run in the World Cup qualifying campaign helped spark enthusiasm from fans.
Fan violence in the stands and outside the stadium marred the "eternal derbies" in the years after Communist rule was overthrown in Bulgaria in 1989 with police unveiling strict security measures ahead of every game recently.
Last year, Sofia municipality announced a series of measures to combat football violence, including early kickoff for matches between Levski and CSKA, which should be played only at the Vasil Levski national stadium, situated in the city centre.

Men hunted after Sunderland v Arsenal train station bottle attack - 13/10/2012

Source : http://www.sunderlandecho.com

DETECTIVES are hunting football hooligans at the centre of a bottle attack at a train station.

British Transport Police have launched an investigation after trouble flared at Northallerton station following the Sunderland-Arsenal game in London.

CCTV footage shows a fight breaking out between Black Cats and Manchester United supporters, with one fan suffering a head injury after a bottle was thrown during the scuffle.

Detective Constable Wayne Green, who is investigating the case, said: “A number of Sunderland fans were travelling back from London after watching their team play Arsenal away.

“A number of youths, believed to be Manchester United supporters from Northallerton, boarded the train at York.

“As the train pulled into Northallerton a scuffle broke out between the two groups in the vestibule area of the train.

“A glass beer bottle is then believed to have been thrown by one of the group of Manchester supporters as they left the train.

“The bottle hit one of the opposing group on the head.

“The Sunderland fans then ran off the train and chased and attacked the other group in and around Northallerton station.” Officers have released images of suspects they would like to speak to in connection with the attack, which took place at about 10.40pm on Saturday, August 18. “I am keen to identify the men in these images as I believe they will have information which can assist us,” said Det Con Green.

Anyone who can identify of the men, or their current whereabouts, is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

During calls, quote incident reference number NEA3 of October 10, 2012, and the photo number.

England: Kings Lynn - Coalville Town - 13/10/2012

Football Association to investigate tunnel bust-up after King’s Lynn Town game against Coalville Town

The Football Association last night launched an investigation after the ugly scenes at the end of Tuesday night’s clash between King’s Lynn Town and Coalville.

FA officials will contact both clubs and the Norfolk FA following the incident which happened at the players’ tunnel following the Evo-Stik Division One South clash which the Linnets won 3-1.

The FA will also contact Norfolk Police, which is also investigating the latest disorder at The Walks.

It comes just 18 months after police separated King’s Lynn Town and Coalville fans the last time the sides met, which resulted in the Lynn club being hit with a £150 fine for crowd disorder by the FA.

A spokesman for the FA last night said: “We are investigating this incident and will work with both clubs and relevant authorities to establish what happened.”

King’s Lynn Town captain Richard Bunting said the tunnel bust-up involved Coalville Town players and a group of Lynn fans.

“I didn’t see it all but it looked like [Coalville] players were trying to go back out of the tunnel and the stewards were holding them back,” he said.

King’s Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell added: “We were in the middle of the pitch clapping our fans after a great match so I didn’t see everything.

“All I know is something happened as the Coalville players went up the tunnel and the police got involved and took them to their dressing room.”

After the game, several Coalville town players posted messages on social network website Twitter condemning the behaviour of King’s Lynn Town fans.

Left back Cameron Stuart claimed Coalville players were verbally abused, punched and spat at.

He also called for the next meeting between the sides in January to be played behind closed doors so they “can just get on with playing football”.

Mr Stuart later tweeted: “No problems with result or [Lynn} players who are good lads, but we shouldn’t have to put up with what happened after the game.”

Striker Jerome Murdock also claimed he was racially abused during the game but no official complaint has been made to Norfolk Police.

However, a spokesman for the force said: “Any allegation of racist comments, by fans or players, will be thoroughly looked in to and police will take any positive action if required.”

Officers were first sent to The Walks before the start of the game after 20 Coalville fans were refused entry.

They remained in the area until after the match when an “incident of disorder” was reported in the players’ tunnel.

Parts of the fence behind Lynn’s ‘Hospital End’ goal were also kicked in during the game but no complaint of damage has been made to police.

Last night’s announcement by the FA came after Keith ‘Buster’ Chapman, King’s Lynn Town chairman, thanked supporters, stewards and police for “ensuring that a successful trouble-free night was had inside stadium”.

These incidents came after two men were arrested after missiles were thrown and the pitch was invaded the last time Coalville played the Linnets which was in a FA Vase last April.

Both the Norfolk FA and Leicestershire and Rutland FA, which Coalville Town is affiliated with, would not comment on Tuesday night’s incidents because it falls under the jurisdiction of the FA.

Glyn Rennocks, Coalville Town chairman, also did not wish to comment on the incidents or investigations.

Lazio fined 40,000 euros for racist chanting at Spurs - 18/10/2012

Source : http://www.euronews.com

Lazio have been fined 40,000 euros ($52,400) for racist behaviour by their fans during the Europa League tie at Tottenham Hotspur last month, UEFA said on Thursday.

According to media reports Spurs striker Jermain Defoe, winger Aaron Lennon and second-half substitute Andros Townsend were the target of monkey chants although manager Andre Villas-Boas said he did not hear anything.

The Group J match on September 20 was played at White Hart Lane in front of UEFA president Michel Platini and ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Italian Serie A club have struggled with a right-wing element among their fans for some time.

European soccer’s governing body UEFA is under increasing pressure to do more than impose fines on teams whose supporters are guilty of racist conduct.

England under-21 defender Danny Rose said he was racially abused and pelted with stones in the southern Serbian city of Krusevac before, during and after Tuesday’s European championship qualifying match that his team won 1-0.

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Serbia and England.

Football fan 'let off' for Nazi salute - 19/10/2012

Source : http://www.thejc.com

An anti-racism group has condemned a Premier League football club for the punishment imposed on a fan who made Nazi salutes at a match.
The 39-year-old supporter was arrested on suspicion of racial and religious harassment the day after the clash with Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park in August.
Following a police investigation he was cautioned for repeatedly giving the salute and for motioning with his hands as if turning on a tap — thought to be a reference to the gas chambers.
The man was identified after fellow Newcastle fans contacted police and the club to complain.
But the Hope Not Hate group said that the subsequent police caution, and a reported three-game ban issued by the club, were “weak.”
In a letter to Newcastle United chief executive Derek Lambias and Northumbria’s Chief Constable Sue Sim, Hope Not Hate’s Nick Lowles wrote: “This sanction was not strong enough and sends a poor message to other supporters.
“We are particularly disappointed, given the club’s strong and consistent anti-racist stance over many years. We would implore you to relook at this case and the decisions that led to the three-match ban and ensure stronger action gets taken in the future, both at a policing, Crown Prosecution Service and football level.”
Newcastle United said: "The club can confirm that a man was arrested and cautioned by the police for a racially aggravated Public Order offence (making racist gestures) at the NUFC v Spurs match and that he was immediately banned from attending the next three home Premier League matches. In reaching its decision to impose this ban, the club took into consideration a number of factors, both aggravating and mitigating, however it is not prepared to expand upon such factors in this case."
They added: "NUFC are committed to dealing robustly with any reports of racist language or conduct at the stadium... the F.A. were grateful for the positive action taken by the club in this particular case."
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman confirmed that the caution had been issued and said: “Before any decision to issue a caution is made, the impact on the victim is considered and a caution is only issued if it is in the public interest to do so”.

Thug invades pitch and flattens goalie

FORMER England goalie Chris Kirkland was slapped to the ground by a fan after letting in a goal during a heated Championship match last night.
The Sheffield Wednesday keeper was attacked by a Leeds United yob who ran on after his side’s equaliser.
The 31-year-old keeper needed treatment after the two-handed shove to his face.
The thug fan was last night named on social network sites as Aaron Cawley.
Furious Wednesday boss Dave Jones called for Leeds fans to be banned from “every away ground”.

The attack came after yobs wound each other up with vile chants on the televised match. Leeds fans sang about child abuse charges that were dropped against Jones.
Wednesday fans chanted about two Leeds fans killed in Turkey in April 2000 — and the sex abuse scandal surrounding Leeds-born Jimmy Savile.

Jones said: “They are vile animals. The authorities have to look at it. It’s upsetting.”
Kirkland’s attacker and other away fans invaded the Hillsborough pitch in the 77th minute.
After felling the star, the yob stuck two fingers up before running away laughing. Kirkland continued the game, which ended 1-1.
Leeds boss Neil Warnock called for the thug to be jailed.

He said: “Absolute disgrace.”
Leeds issued an apology.

Russian Police Open Probe Into Dynamo Paintball Attack - 19/10/2012

Source : http://en.ria.ru

Russian police have opened a criminal probe into Friday's paintball attack on Dynamo Moscow players.
Several players including midfielder Alan Gatagov were hit when a gang of camouflaged assailants opened fire from behind a fence at the club's training base just outside Moscow in Novogorsk.
"In this case, a criminal investigation has been opened," said Moscow region police spokesman Yevgeny Gildeev.
Wanton hooliganism carries a maximum jail term of five years.
The club blasted the incident and said it would do everything in its powers to hold those responsible criminally accountable. The official Dynamo fan club has distanced itself from the attack.
It was the latest attack from fans disgruntled at the club's lowly 13th position in the standings.
In late September, several fans fired flares and scrawled graffiti on the street outside the Novogorsk training base, urging the players to cease dishonoring Dynamo’s name.
The flyers read: "If the club and the coaches can't motivate you, then believe us, we will do it."
"We are the supporters and the fans. And our methods will be a little more serious."
In Friday's attack, the culprits also dropped flyers, this time reading: "What you are doing has lost all meaning. We don't want to support a team of losers any more."
Dynamo's next game is away to newly promoted Mordovia Saransk on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund - Schalke 04 - 20/10/2012

Source : http://www.derwesten.de

Police arrest 200 football fans after riots

Dortmund police have said the level of violence between rival Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 fans on Saturday was the worst in years as nearly 200 arrests were made before the Ruhr derby.

Schalke claimed a rare victory which was over-shadowed by violent clashes in Dortmund between fans and police, with eight officers injured.

A total of 180 football fans were arrested, 163 from Schalke and 17 from Dortmund, with police seizing fireworks, pepper spray, reinforced gloves and other weapons. Fans also tore up paving stones to throw at officers and opposition fans.

The organised violence is of obvious concern ahead of Wednesday's Champions League group game between Real Madrid and the German champions in Dortmund.

"The level of violence was much more severe than in previous years," said Manfred Radecke from the Dortmund police. He added that the German Football Federation (DFB) would almost certainly be investigating the rioting.

"We have to plan for riots and deploy the correct number of officers and put a plan in place.

"But we hadn't expected that things would degenerate to such an extent and that we would need to use a water cannon and tear gas."

Police used tear gas to break up the melee when a 600-strong group of Schalke fans was attacked by masked Dortmund supporters on their way to the Signal Iduna Park stadium.

A water cannon was also used to prevent Schalke fans tearing down a fence near the stadium, while a restaurant near the ground was ransacked with Dortmund fans using the broken furnishings as weapons.

"We don't regard these people as football fans," added Radecke. "They use every opportunity to play out their aggression and if police have to step in, they are happy to target them as well."

An under-17 match between Schalke and Dortmund took place on Sunday with a large increase in police numbers.

Ruhr derby violence worst in years, say police

Violent clashes between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke fans at the 141st Ruhr derby, which resulted in almost 200 arrests and left 11 people injured, was the worst in years, police said Sunday.

Violent clashes between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke fans at the 141st Ruhr derby, which resulted in almost 200 arrests and left 11 people injured, was the worst in years, police said Sunday.

Schalke claimed a 2-1 win at neighbours and defending Bundesliga champions Borussia, but the victory was over-shadowed by running battles between fans and police who used tear gas and water cannon to quell the unrest in Dortmund.

A restaurant was destroyed and paving stones ripped up before being used as makeshift weapons as fans went on the rampage.

Amongst the injured were eight police officers, while 180 fans -- 163 from Schalke and 17 from Dortmund -- were arrested.

Charges ranged from assault and aggravated assault to resisting arrest, violations of laws regarding explosives and insulting officers.

Police also reported fireworks, pepper spray, metal-reinforced gloves and other weapons were all seized.

The organised violence is of obvious concern ahead of Wednesday's Champions League group game between Real Madrid and the German champions in Dortmund.

"The level of violence was much more severe than in previous years," Manfred Radecke from the Dortmund police told SID, an AFP subsidiary, with the German Football Federation (DFB) almost certain to investigate.

"We have to plan for riots and deploy the correct number of officers and put a plan in place.

"But we hadn't expected that things would degenerate to such an extent and that we would need to use a water cannon and tear gas."

The water cannon was used to prevent Schalke fans tearing down a fence near the stadium, while a nearby restaurant was ransacked with Dortmund fans using the broken furnishings as weapons.

Fans also tore up paving stones to use "as missiles against opposing fans and police officers".

"We don't regard these people as football fans," added Radecke.

"They use every opportunity to play out their aggression. If police have to step in, they are happy to target them as well."
