Buffon Defends Juventus Fans After Anti-Balotelli Chants - 28/11/2009
Source : Goal.com
Buffon doesn't think the fans' anti-Mario Balotelli chants are racist in nature.
During Juventus' last two matches against Udinese and Bordeaux in the Champions League, a section of their fanbase were heard making chants against Inter starlet Mario Balotelli.
Although many think there were some racist undertones to the chants, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon doesn't agree and he came to the defence of the Bianconeri faithful.
"Racist chants certainly aren't good for football or for anyone else," he said to Sky Sport 24. "It's always right to stigmatise them and take positions. However, it's important not to give them too much importance, or mistake chants against a particular player for racism. I think Juve's fans are fair and I'm sure that during the match against Inter there won't be any chants against Balotelli."
Buffon also talked about the rumours linking fellow Italian international Gennaro Gattuso with a move away from AC Milan.
"It's certainly not an easy moment for him, but I don't see him leaving Milan," he continued. "He is a symbol of that team, I really couldn't see him in another shirt."
On young goalkeeping talent Federico Marchetti of Cagliari, Buffon said, "He is a very good goalkeeper, he's a good lad and he has great qualities. In Italy he's certainly the goalkeeper I like the most, he reminds me of myself when I was young."

Red Star Belgrade - Partizan Belgrade - 28/11/2009
Source : Reuters + Blic Online
Eight injured, 40 arrested at Belgrade derby
Belgrade: Eight people were injured, two of them seriously, and 40 were arrested during and after the first division derby between Red Star Belgrade and Partizan on Saturday, police said.
A 44-year-old man who suffered a heart attack an 11-year-old boy with head injuries were rushed to Belgrade's Emergency Centre, while three of the arrested faced criminal charges.
"Eight people were arrested before and during the match and 32 afterwards," Belgrade police chief Slobodan Vukolic told the state Tanjug news agency.
"Three of the arrested face criminal charges while police will keep working to identify other offenders who set fire to stadium seats," he said.
The derby match, which ended in a 2-1 win for champions Partizan, was held up for several minutes in the second half, as firemen and riot police moved on to the athletics track around the pitch to put out fires.
The Belgrade derby has a history of crowd trouble. Fierce rivalry between the fans has resulted in several deaths in and outside stadia.
In 1999, a Red Star fan was killed by a burning flare launched by Partizan fans from their end of the stadium.
In September, a fan of French first division side Toulouse died in Belgrade 12 days after a group of Partizan fans beat him up before the two teams played a Europa League match.
Eight people were injured and 34 arrests were made during the Belgrade derby football match between Red Star and Partizan.
Two injured persons were taken to the emergency room.
One 11 year-old boy fell and hurt his head and a 44 year-old man had a heart attack at the stadium.
Most of the other injuries were minor.
Partizan fans lit seats on fire during the match, which stopped play for three minutes.
Belgrade Police administration Chief Slobodan Vukolić said that thanks to fast interventions of members of the sector for emergency situations, the fire was quickly put out.
Vukolić said that before and after the derby, a total of 34 persons were arrested, 14 of which were minors.
Police searching the stands confiscated several dozen smoke bombs, about 60 torches and many firecrackers.
Several hundred police officers made sure that fans of Partizan and Red Star did not clash after the match while leaving the stadium, though Vukolić said that several incidents occurred, but that no one was hurt in the scuffles.
Partizan defeated Red Star at its home “Marakana” stadium in the 137th local derby played between the teams by a score of 2:1.

Man in football battle is given three-year ban - 28/11/2009
Source : Rochdale Observer
A NEWHEY man involved in a pitched battle outside a Norden pub after a Rochdale v Bury match has been banned from every football ground in the country for three years by magistrates.
Darren Wilsdon, aged 40, of Birch Crescent pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.
He was also given a three-month community order, a 21-day curfew in which time he will be electronically tagged, and was ordered to pay costs of £150 by Rochdale magistrates.
Wilsdon was arrested on August 29, following violence which followed a 3-0 victory by Dale at Spotland.
Up to 40 fans stormed along a public footpath onto the Horse and Farrier pub bowling green and children's play area.
During the incident, residents were forced to flee and drivers had to swerve to avoid the thugs during a half-hour pitched battle on Edenfield Road.
Hooligans swung punches and kicks at each other as they ran riot along the road between oncoming vehicles and one man is believed to have been struck by a car. Horse and Farrier landlord Richard Jones was forced to blockade his premises as frightened children and customers cowered inside.
One witness described the incident as 'Sickening displays of violence', which includglasses and bottles flying in all directions
A charge against Wilsdon of assaulting PC Gordon Ryecroft was dropped after no evidence was offered.
A Greater Manchester Police football intelligence officer Russell Lee said: "Football disorder is an extremely serious offence that can result in completely innocent people being caught in frightening situations.
"We have a great relationship with the club and will work hard to identify and bring to justice anyone involved in any football-related violence, whether inside the ground or not.
"As with today's sentence the very least you can expect is a lengthy, if not a lifetime ban from your ground and others across the country.
"Those who carry out such acts under the guise of being a 'fan' of Rochdale FC are not regarded as such by us or the club."

Cyprus : Two football hooligans face trail over beating - 28/11/2009
Source : Cyprus Mail
TWO MEN were yesterday referred for trial before the criminal court in connection with the brutal beating of a 20-year-old that left him in critical condition.
The man sustained critical head injuries around two weeks ago during clashes between rival football fans at a futsal facility Nicosia.
The two suspects, aged 23 and 24, were yesterday referred for trial before the criminal court where they will face attempted murder charges, among others.
They also face conspiracy to commit felony, actions aiming at causing grievous bodily harm and assault.
Charges carry a maximum of life imprisonment.
The pair were released on a €50,000 bail after handing over their travel documents.
They are expected to be formally charged before the criminal court on December 3.
The 20-year-old was beaten with hockey sticks at the Nuevo Campo futsal ground where APOEL fans, on their way to Larnaca, attacked Omonia supporters who were organising a tournament.
The skirmish had nothing to do with the weekend’s football fixtures, and was likely instigated by a running vendetta between the two rival sets of fans.
The incident sparked a fresh debate about hooliganism with authorities introducing several measures in a bid to curb the ever-increasing violence.
Yesterday, Justice Minister Lukas Luka said officers were being specially trained to police sports grounds.
“They will be specific officers who will be trained by the rapid reaction unit and will have the necessary equipment to achieve better policing,” the minister said.
Fans would also have to present their identity card at the entrance of the stadium, which would have to correspond to the identity number on the ticket.
Authorities have also decided to hold high-risk games in the daytime as another measure to stem violence.

England: Chester City - Eastbourne Borough - 28/11/2009
Chester's Blue Square Premier match against Eastbourne Borough was abandoned after 75 minutes following an on-pitch protest from home supporters.
City were 3-2 up when fans invaded, forcing referee Paul Curry to call the game off after police said it was no longer safe for players or spectators.
The protest is believed to have been about off-pitch troubles at the club.
Chester face expulsion from the league unless repayments are made on debts to Wrexham and Vauxhall Motors by Monday.
City boss Jim Harvey told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I'm still disappointed it was called off. As far as I was concerned there was no threat to players on the field.
"The referee said the police came in and said he had to call it off so he had no choice."
Eastbourne boss Garry Wilson told BBC Sussex: "The referee said the chief police officer told him he couldn't guarantee the safety of players or supporters and they were going to bring in dogs to get the ground back under control.
"At that time he felt it was the right thing to abandon the game.
"I feel sorry for Chester, it's a fantastic set-up here and they've got a good manager. It's sad for them to be part of this. Hopefully they can survive and sort it out."
The abandonment caps a difficult week for the club which saw four players leave the Deva Stadium.
Chester are operating under a transfer embargo imposed because of their financial difficulties and the ban means manager Harvey cannot replace them.
In addition to dealing with the embargo, Chester are also battling to stay in the Blue Square Premier after being docked 25 points at the start of the season as a penalty for their financial problems.
The club went into administration following relegation from League Two in May.
During the last week Chester's owners have been in talks with a party interested in buying the club and are hopeful a deal can be done.
The protest came just as Harvey's side had gone 3-2 ahead and seemed on course for their fourth consecutive league win.
They took an early lead against Eastbourne when Anthony Barry fired home a free-kick from 25-yards but the visitors equalised courtesy of Liam Enver-Marum's spectacular 30-yard drive.
Chester regained the advantage when Lloyd Ellams slotted in from Mark Beesley's cross but Eastbourne hit back for a second time when Kayne McLaggon converted Matt Crabb's corner.
Chadwick completed the scoring with a powerful header from another Beesley centre before supporters ran onto the pitch and forced the abandonment.
Eastbourne Borough's match at Chester City today was abandoned after 72 minutes following two pitch invasions.
Around 20 fans had entered the field of play in the first half to protest against club chairman Steven Vaughan.
Police and stewards were able to clear the pitch for the game to resume but a handful of supporters made a second invasion with 18 minutes to go and police advised referee Paul Curry to abandon the game as they couldn't guarantee the safety of the players or supporters.
Chester had led 3-2 at the time with goals from Anthony Barry, Lloyd Ellams and Nick Chadwick while Borough had twice fought back from behind through Liam Enver-Marum and Kayne McLaggon.

A key suspect in the murder of French football fan Brice Taton has remained on the streets over the last several years despite over 20 pending criminal charges.
Two months after Taton’s death, the investigation into the 15 hooligans accused of savagely assaulting him is still ongoing.
Two of these suspects, Đorđe Prelić and Dejan Puzigaća, remain fugitives.
According to B92’s investigative team, Prelić is one of the leaders of the Partizan hooligan group “Alcatraz.”
In the last several years, he was charged for many different crimes by the police, including violent behavior, illegal possession of weapons and explosives, obstruction of justice, illegal possession and sale of weapons and ammunition, illegal production and sale of drugs, and robbery.
However, he was only convicted of one charge over the years and sentenced to six months in prison, the rest of his cases were either never started or indictments were never issued for the crimes.
He is now also wanted for organized murder in the Taton case and has been on the run ever since the police investigation began in September.

FC Bruges - RSC Charleroi - 28/11/2009
Source: mail (thanks to the sender)
About 50 to 60 Charleroi lads in Bruges at approx 6pm (match at 8pm). Charleroi mob waited 150 meters far away from the main Bruges boozer and phone-called locals with the aim to announce their presence, saying to Bruges they'll be there for 5 minutes...Bruges agreed for an off. Charleroi waited for 10 minutes, without any Bruges. Some youth passed th road to see where the BCF mob was...no sight. Charleroi plainted clothes cops and local police forces arrived on the scene and said to leave the scene to avoid a massive arrest operation. Charleroi left the scene and after 15 minutes a Bruges mob (approx 60) is seen. Too late. Better to react more quickly when u're at home. Only a few away firms waited so long in Bruges, near their main boozer. Charleroi mob made its best.
********************************************** Source: mail (thanks to the sender)
Charleroi was spotted around 18hr at an intersection about 300m form our pub. A few of their older lads had crossed the intersection direction our pub, a lot of the younger ones still stood on the other side. Our mob moved, but when we arrived, nobody was there... Very strange as no police was around in miles, just a few bob on our tail. Several phone calls were made, without reaction. They then said they drove to a city nearby (R'lare) and were going to see what they would do. About 30 of us didn't go to the game, as we expected them to turn out at our pub during the game, when nobody is around (as they did in Genk, ...) Local police showed up during the game, and did an identity check on everyone in the pub. Gasoline must be for free in Charleroi as they drove to Bruges (for 5min???) and went home...

Panathinaikos goalie says he was hit by air gun pellets in derby
Panathinaikos Athens goalie Alexandros Tzorvas Tuesday told a Piraeus prosecutor that he was the target of air gun pellets during Sunday's derby match at Olympiakos Piraeus.
Tzorvas, who is also the Greek national team goalkeeper, told the prosecutor that he was hit several times and showed marks on his body and presented medical reports.
He said he had informed referee Anastasios Kakos about the attacks but that the official did not record the incidents in his match report.
The prosecutor has requested Olympiakos to provide security camera footage in order to find the culprit.
Panathinaikos on Tuesday sent a detailed letter of protest to the Greek league about the incident which also included a penknife being thrown on the pitch as well as numerous flares.
The start of the match was delayed for more than an hour as unruly Olympiakos fans kept the Panathinaikos team bus from arriving on time as about 300 of them clashed with riot-trained police outside the Karaiskakis Stadium where the derby was held.
The league is expected to punish Olympiakos for the incidents with a heavy fine and possibly forcing the team to play their next home match behind closed doors.
