Rome mayor wants to ban Feyenoord fans from Europa League game against AS Roma - 18/03/2023
Source : https://nltimes.nl/
Several Italian newspapers reported that Roberto Gualtieri, the mayor of Rome, urged Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi to prohibit Feyenoord supporters from traveling to Rome for the Europa League quarter-final on April 20.
On Friday, the mayor of the Italian capital voiced his worries regarding the possibility of violence. "A very tough attitude is needed to protect the city and the country because we have seen very serious incidents of violence in the past.” He further added that the game was planned on the day before the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) inspection for Rome's bid to host Expo 2030. This presents another reason "to make the most appropriate interventions" during this "sensitive time for the city," he remarked.
Gualtieri referred to the previous clash between the two teams in 2015, which saw violent riots between Italian police and Feyenoord fans following a Europa League game against AS Roma. The fans caused extensive damage to the Piazza di Spagna and the Barcaccia fountain. On Friday, the sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport featured an article with the headline: "The ultra nightmare returns to Rome."
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it is very likely that Gualtieri's request will be accepted. The newspaper recalled on Friday that authorities had prohibited the sale of tickets to Feyenoord supporters before their match against SS Lazio, another football team based in Rome, already last September.
Furthermore, the newspaper reported that Feyenoord fans have started publishing provocative messages on social media. Hence, it is highly probable that the mayor's request will be granted once again.
It is still unclear whether the Rotterdam authorities will allow Italian supporters to attend the first match at De Kuip on April 13.

40 fans clash in Lustenau
About 40 fierce fans of Austrian Lustenau caused an argument with security services staff on Saturday afternoon after the amateur team lost a local derby against FC Lustenau. After the end of the match, the group wanted to break into the already locked stadium at the main entrance. According to the police, a fierce argument broke out when the security service intervened. At least six people were injured. In the second half of the match, the game had to be stopped for a short time as pyrotechnic objects fell on the field.
The attacks on the main entrance gate came at around 16.15 after the end of the match. Austrian Lustenau supporters kicked the door and tried to climb over it. The security service tried to push the group back. As a result, at least five security guards were injured by punching, kicking, throwing bottles and hitting flagpoles. A visitor still in the stadium injured his arm from a dropped metal club banner.

Community president laments that, ‘as always, the only ones outraged and protesting’ are Jews; Italy’s sports minister vows to crack down on phenomenon
The Jewish community of Rome denounced on Monday alleged antisemitic behavior from Lazio fans during Sunday’s soccer derby win against Roma (1-0).
“An entire stand chanting antisemitic chants, a ‘fan’ in the stands wearing a Hitlerson jersey and the number 88, and we, as always, the only ones outraged and protesting,” wrote Ruth Dureghello, president of the Jewish community of Rome, on Twitter.
The post was accompanied by a photo of a supported in a Lazio shirt with “Hitlerson” as the player name on the back with the number 88, code for “Heil Hitler,” and a video of Lazio fans chanting.

“Can it be that everyone continues to pretend that nothing is happening?” she asked.
On March 8, the Italian soccer federation announced an investigation into alleged antisemitic chants by Lazio fans during their team’s win at Napoli on March 3.
In January, the northern section of Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, home to Lazio’s ultras, was closed for a match after racist abuse by the ultras at Lecce, aimed at two black players, Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda.
The Lazio ultras have been regularly singled out for their racist or antisemitic behavior.

The Netherlands : PSV bans football hooligan for 40 years for attacking player - 21/03/2023
Source : https://www.washingtontimes.com/
A football hooligan serving two months in prison for running onto the field at PSV Eindhoven’s stadium and attacking a player during a Europa League match has also been handed a 40-year ban by the Dutch club.
The 20-year-old man will not be allowed inside the Philips Stadium during the length of the ban, PSV said in a statement late Monday.
Prosecutors previously said the man had two previous convictions for soccer-related offenses and was under the influence of alcohol when he ran onto the field late in the match between PSV and Sevilla on Feb. 23 and punched Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.
Dmitrovic was not injured and wrestled the hooligan to the ground before stewards marched him off the field.
The Dutch football federation had imposed a stadium ban on the hooligan but he managed to get in using a ticket bought by a friend.
The man has since been given him what PSV called a two-year “area ban” around the stadium.
He was fired from his job after the incident and kicked out of his team’s supporters’ club.
PSV general manager Marcel Brands said the incident has prompted the club to discuss how better to enforce stadium bans.
