Referee threatens to stop Ligue 1 game over offensive language in stands
A French Ligue 1 referee threatened to halt a game on Sunday due to Nimes fans insulting the league organisers with offensive language during their visit to Monaco.
The French league has mooted the idea of introducing a list of banned words in football stadiums in an attempt to combat homophobia and bad language, but Nimes supporters hit back by telling them to "go fuck yourselves".
A message over the PA system was read out to fans warning them to stop the chants or the game could be stopped, before the match continued with the Monaco supporters joining in with their Nimes counterparts.

Scotland : Notorious Rangers hooligan Sandy Chugg jailed over massive street brawl with Wigan thugs - 26/08/2019
Source : https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/
A RANGERS thug who claimed to have shunned violence was jailed over a massive street brawl after a pre-season friendly.
Ex-Inter City Firm boss Sandy Chugg, 47, clashed with Wigan hooligans in Glasgow.
Footage shows how rampaging thugs used sandwich boards and metal tables as weapons as they brought chaos to a city centre street.
Rival mobs also hurled bottles and chairs in terrifying scenes following the friendly match.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the shocking brawl was sparked when notorious hooligan Chugg was punched near a pub in the city.
Chugg — ex-leader of the feared Inter City Firm — was one of 12 thugs nailed for the mayhem.
Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court: “Both groups participated in a pitched battle in the middle of the street with members of the public nearby including children.
“CCTV showed a violent altercation as the groups meet with involved weapons and items such as sandwich boards, a steel table, bottles and chairs. They are also observed punching and kicking each other across the street.”
The court heard rival sets of fans were “intent on clashing” following last July’s pre-season match at Ibrox, which Gers won 3-0.
An unidentified man was described as punching Chugg before fleeing to a Wetherspoon bar where Wigan fans were drinking.
A group of the English Championship club’s supporters then headed to the nearby Toby Jug pub where Chugg and his cronies were.
Violence then erupted outside on Hope Street before cops swooped. CCTV later identified the louts.
Chugg pleaded guilty to conducting himself in a disorderly manner, forming part of a crowd and engaging with others in a fight. He was jailed for 12 months.
Robbie Donaldson, 27, Martin Donnelly, 42, David Fleming, 33, Andrew Reid, 27, Alistair McKenzie, 38, Connor Proven, 27, and Edward Clark, 48, were also guilty of being involved in the brawl.
They got a total of almost seven years’ jail at different hearings.
Kyle Bain, 20, was ordered to carry out 225 hours’ unpaid work.
All of the men were slapped with a three-year football banning order.
Gordon McEwan, 53, Gordon McLean, 39, and Robert McMillan, 49, will learn their fate next month.
Caging Chugg, Sheriff Martin Jones QC said: “It was seriously violent conduct when members of the public and children were there.
“They acted with utter disregard for others and used weapons. Even after police moved in to separate them, missiles continued to be thrown. The safety of the public was put at risk and this didn’t stop until the intervention of police officers.”
Chugg led the ICF crew in the 1980s and 1990s. He was barred from Ibrox three times but had a lifetime ban lifted in August 2011.
The thug previously stated he wanted to put his violent past behind him.
He was pictured outside Ibrox with ex-Bears idols Nacho Novo and John Brown at a protest by fans’ group Sons of Struth in 2014.
The dad-of-four — caged for dealing LSD and Temazepam in 1990 — was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend in 2017.
But the case collapsed when she didn’t want to give evidence.

Source : https://www.en24.news/

The bans refer to all Bundesliga and DFB Cup matches. Nine prohibitions are suspended. The result is 37 nationwide stadium bans for between twelve and 36 months, as well as nine stadium bans issued on probation. At first the "Bild" had reported on the prohibitions.

DFB imposed fine against Hertha BSC in the amount of 100,000 euros
Last October, the Dortmund police intervened during the Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and Hertha BSC (2: 2) to collect an Ultra flag on the guest block. Previously, members of the Ultra Group Capital Mafia detonated pyrotechnics for several minutes. As a result, there were violent clashes between the police in front of the block and supporters in the block with about 60 injured. During the break, people from the guest block had destroyed the sanitary facilities.
A spokesman for Borussia Dortmund confirmed the Morgenpost that the BVB has declared the 46 stadium bans with the decision-making authority of the German Football Association (DFB). The 18 first division have mutually authorized each other to such stadium bans. The DFB had subsequently imposed a fine of 100,000 euros against Hertha BSC. Hertha fans had in turn filed a complaint against the operational management of the Dortmund police. However, this preliminary investigation had been discontinued by the public prosecutor's office Dortmund.
Of the affected Ultra groups was on request of this newspaper on Monday, no opinion to receive.

A Mediterranean derby against a background of controversy
This Wednesday, August 28, the Allianz Arena is hosting a mighty derby between Nice and Olympique Marseille. But fans are not coming to celebrate nor to party in the context of growing opposition to the Professional Football League.
Homophobic slurs in Nancy during a Ligue 2 match, a solemn position was taken by Marlène Schiappa (Secretary of State in charge of the fight against discrimination by the French government), a temporary stop of the game between Monaco and Nîmes (and between Brest and Reims) this weekend following offensive songs against the league… On the sidelines the new championship season, French football seems to be going through a serious crisis. Last but not least: for the derby between Nice and Marseille, OM fans are banned from Allianz Arena, in a context where binding decisions are multiplying against stadium regulars.
A progressive site for growth ?
Since the beginning of the season, referees have reported several songs containing homophobic insults. The men in black no longer hesitate to interrupt the game when they are made aware of these heinous happenings. These measures are changing the landscape of matches, especially so for well-meaning supporters who fear that their freedom of expression risks being limited. The strong censorships from the Professional Football League, including travel bans for certain matches, as well as political statements related to these issues have not seemed to appease the anger of football fans. The next Ligue 1 matches, like the OGC Nice – OM derby… might they show a difference? This can only be discerned during and after the match.

Nice’s match with Marseille suspended after fans display homophobic banners
The Ligue 1 game between Nice and Marseille was suspended for 10 minutes on Wednesday night after supporters unfurled banners displaying homophobic messages in the stands. Offensive chants were also heard on a hugely embarrassing night for the home club, whose takeover by the billionaire Jim Ratcliffe went through on Tuesday.
Ratcliffe’s brother, Bob, was present to see the match held up in the 28th minute by the referee, Clément Turpin, after the stadium announcer inside the Allianz Riviera had twice asked fans to stop making anti-gay chants, which were directed at the French league and began around the 17th minute.
One of the accompanying banners criticised the league for approving more fenced-off sections in stands. Its meaning translated as: “More fans in the stands means a more gay stadium.” The other banner referred to the takeover by Ratcliffe, who owns the Team Ineos cycling team. In French the term “pedale” means to pedal but is also used as a derogatory term to describe gay people.
“Welcome to the Ineos group: at Nice we also love to pedal,” that banner read, and Turpin acted after the supporters showed no sign of desisting. He spoke to both captains, Dante of Nice and Steve Mandanda of Marseille, the former leading his teammates to remonstrate with the offenders. They had little success and the teams returned to the dressing room while Turpin met the managers, Patrick Vieira and André Villas-Boas.
The players returned but there was a delay later when Marseille’s Dimitri Payet became the target of missiles as he went to take a corner. Nice’s Wylan Cyprien told Canal Plus he disagreed with the decision to halt the game. “We’re not going to stop the game each time some morons do something,” he said. “I’m against all forms of discrimination, [whether it’s] homophobia or racism, but you shouldn’t stop the match for so little. It’s ridiculous.”
Marseille won the match 2-1, Dario Benedetto opening the scoring shortly after play had resumed and Payet scoring a penalty after Cyprien had equalised from the spot. But the focus will rest on what appears to be a disturbing trend in French football. On 16 August a Ligue 2 match between Nancy and Le Mans was briefly stopped amid homophobic chanting and there were also incidents in last weekend’s Brest v Reims and Monaco v Nîmes fixtures.

Baton-wielding Swedish police clash with Celtic fans at AIK stadium in Stockholm
Baton-wielding Swedish police officers have been filmed clashing with Celtic fans inside the AIK stadium.
Footage shows the officers laying into Hoops supporters on Thursday night after the fans travelled to the Stockholm stadium for the Europa League second-leg match.
The ugly scenes began just before half-time although it is not yet clear what started the incident.
One witness said: "Five minutes before half time the police move along to where these guys were standing, just to my left, pointing people out.
"As soon as HT whistle blew they barged in, started grabbing guys & utterly smashing them with batons."
Some fans speculated that the officers entered the section to pick out fans who had set off pyrotechnics at the start of the game.

Celtic say fans infiltrated by Hammarby troublemakers who sparked ugly clashes with Swedish police during AIK match
CELTIC are set to blame Swedish thugs if they land a Uefa charge over the unrest in the Friends Arena.
Flares were let off and police entered the away end as ugly scenes marred the Hoops' 4-1 Europa League win over AIK Stockholm.
Celtic sources claimed around 350 away fans were infiltrated by hooligans from AIK's bitter rivals Hammarby.
Cops wielding batons clashed with supporters as they sought out the ringleaders at half-time in last night's second leg.
Several fans suffered minor injuries and the clashes look certain to be reported back to Uefa by the match delegate.
Under tough strict liability rules, the flashpoints could lead to charges for the Scottish champions - who won the tie 6-2 on aggregate.
But it's understood Celts will vigorously defend themselves if they are pulled up and have already compiled video evidence to support their case and lay the blame at the Hammarby louts.
CELTIC fans were involved in an ugly battle with Swedish police during tonight's Europa League play-off with AIK.
Cops waded into the Hoops support at half-time as trouble erupted at the match.
Officers wielded batons as punches were thrown during the nasty confrontation.
Swedish journalist Robert Laul, who witnessed the unsavoury clashes, said: "Quite crazy scenes as Celtic fans fight with guards."
