West Ham and Newcastle fans fight in Dusseldorf with 21 arrested by police - 01/08/2014
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk
German police have arrested 21 West Ham and Newcastle United supporters after violent clashes in Dusseldorf. Fighting broke out between the rival fans in the city’s old town on Friday afternoon and 100 police officers were deployed to the area.
The two clubs are competing in the Schalke 04 Cup this weekend in Gelsenkirchen. A spokesman for the Polizeipräsidium Düsseldorf said: ‘There were 300 English fans in the city centre. 'The fans from both clubs met and first of all they had some beers on their own, and when they met the other club there has been some verbal arguments. After that they had a psychical fight.' ‘We put 100 policemen in the city centre so that things would calm down and it calmed down very fast but we made 21 short term arrests.’

Macedonia : FK Pelister - Vardar Skopje - 03/08/2014
Fan loses hand, Police intervenes during Pelister - Vardar derby
The start of the Macedonian football league was marred by a terrible incident in the derby match between Pelister and Vardar in Bitola. Vardar won the match 1-0, however as visiting assistant coach Vasovski stated after the match "this win means nothing when a fan loses a hand".
The horrific incident unfolded after the 90th minute. For reasons known only to the Bitola Police, they entered the stands of the Vardar fans popularly known as "Komiti" and started beating them. During the chaotic scene, a policeman dropped his stun grenade. One of the fans attempted to pick it up when it exploded in his hand. Part of his hand was blown off, three other fans were injured and transported to the Bitola City Hospital.
Why did Bitola Policemen with stun grenades entered the stands packed with fans is an entirely different topic. The Ministry of Interior has some questions to answer.

Pardew praises Toon's travelling support after German clashes - 04/08/2014
Source : http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk + mail
Toon boss Alan Pardew said fans "conducted themselves superbly under some provocation" after skirkishes with West Ham fans
Toon boss Alan Pardew has praised Newcastle’s travelling support who “conducted themselves superbly under some provocation” in their pre-season trip to Germany.
Twenty one people were arrested following fights on the streets of Dusseldorf on Friday ahead of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Spanish side Malaga.
Then on Sunday, Magpies fans were allegedly attacked by West Ham supporters inside Schalke’s Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
Pardew said: “They conducted themselves superbly under some provocation. Well done to them.”
Photographer and Newcastle fan Andy Thompson was one of the fans who made the trip.
He said: “It was a fantastic weekend - all the Newcastle fans were well behaved and the Germans were lovely towards us - but it was spoilt by mindless West Ham hooligans.
“My wife had gone to the bar and I just happened to have my camera when things kicked off below me.
“The West Ham fans charged in and were hitting people, then the police turned up with batons and pepper sprayed the West Ham fans. It was like something from the 70s.
“It took five to 10 minutes to calm down, then they sealed the area we were in.
“My wife was told to stand outside - I was quite relieved when I found her again.
“What happened really spoilt our day and when the final whistle went the Newcastle fans left - nobody wanted to stay and support West Ham after what had happened.
“The next day there was an awful atmosphere in the ground - a West Ham fan came into the Newcastle end and was waving a flag. There was no need for that.”
Peter Fanning, 58, from South Shields, was also in the ground when trouble broke out - and he hopes the disorder will see not only fans banned, but their club shunned by future tournaments.
“Schalke, Malaga and Newcastle fans mingled and everyone was having a great time,” said Peter, a member of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust,
“But clearly there was some trouble with the West Ham fans - only their part of the ground was segregated.
“There were some flags saying ‘Inter City Firm on tour,’ which would be a well known hooligan group from years ago - and the guys with it were in their 40s and 50s, so they could have been members.
“At the very least I hope that West Ham aren’t invited back to a tournament like that.
“Everyone else mixed really well - there was a festival atmosphere outside the ground and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
“Schalke went out of their way to welcome us from abroad and it’s a shame that idiots come along and spoil things.”
A spokesman for the Polizeipräsidium Düsseldorf – the Dusseldorf police - said there was no further information as to how many of the 21 fighting football fans arrested in the city on Friday were Newcastle supporters.
Northumbria Police said it was aware of the arrests in Germany and would be making inquiries and where appropriate would look to gain information to progress to full banning orders for those involved.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said the force would wait to see what prosecutions, if any, are brought in Germany before deciding whether to investigate further.
Newcastle United were unreachable and West Ham United did not respond to a request for comment.

Uefa closes stands at Steaua, Debrecen and Maribor after racist incidents - 05/08/2014
Source : http://www.theguardian.com
• Uefa sanctions clubs after reports of racist incidents last month • Closures enforced in Champions League and Europa League
Uefa has punished three Champions League clubs for the racist behaviour of some supporters at matches last month. Uefa says Steaua Bucharest, Debrecen and Maribor must close sections of their stadiums at the next Champions League or Europa League match they host.
Steaua’s sanction takes effect on Wednesday. Two sections of the National Arena will be closed against the Kazakhstan champions, Aktobe, in the second leg of their third qualifying round tie.
Uefa’s disciplinary panel acted on reports of racist incidents when Steaua beat Norway’s Stromsgodset 2-0 on 23 July. Debrecen of Hungary must shut sector B of their ground after fans showed an “illicit banner” during a match against Northern Ireland’s Cliftonville.
Slovenia’s Maribor must close sector Jug of their stadium after racist behaviour when Zrinjski of Bosnia-Herzegovina visited. Debrecen and Maribor play away in second-leg matches on Tuesday.
In a fourth case from the Europa League, Uefa ordered Chikhura Sachkhere of Georgia to close the section of its stadium used by “ultras” on Thursday when Neftchi Baku of Azerbaijan visits. It followed incidents during a goalless draw with Bursaspor of Turkey on 24 July.
Uefa is in the second season of a stricter regime of sanctions for racism incidents involving players, officials and fans.
Evidence is typically provided by monitors from the Fare network of fan groups, formerly known as Football Against Racism in Europe.

States plan to reduce police numbers at Bundesliga games - 05/08/2014
Source : http://www.dw.de
First it was the city of Bremen - now another state has announced its plans as well: North Rhine-Westphalia authorities are tired of paying for unnecessary riot police at Bundesliga matches, they say.
With the 2014/2015 Bundesliga season just a few weeks away, things are starting to get a bit heated on the issue of ground security. In the northern city of Bremen, authorities have announced that the company responsible for the league, the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH, will have to start paying for police that are employed at league matches. In response, the German Football Association (DFB) moved the planned national team game against Gibraltar in November away from the Weser stadium. The German Police Union has since become involved in the discussion and demanded 50 million euros in payment from Germany's Bundesliga clubs. Now, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has announced that local police will be reducing their presence - or in some cases not showing up at all - at Bundesliga matches in the region for a period at the start of the coming season. The state is one of the heartland areas of the Bundesliga: it's home to six Bundesliga teams - Dortmund, Schalke, Cologne, Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach und Paderborn. According to plans announced by the state's Interior Minister Ralf Jäger on Monday (04.08.2014), police will be both "positioned in a hidden place as well as rarely used to accompany blocks of fans." Riot police will also not be in a visible position in the stadium, he says. Appeal to the fans Interior Minister Jäger is reacting to the huge police costs that are currently incurred while securing Germany's top flight soccer games. Over 300,000 man-hours were clocked up last year by police at Bundesliga matches. A third of these hours were in areas around the stadiums.
Now the fans and clubs are being asked to take responsibility themselves. In a confidential paper obtained by German newspaper BILD, the NRW authorities are asking clubs to look after security, with either volunteers or club personnel accompanying fans on their way to the stadium. "Discussions with the fans have shown me that fans are willing to take on more responsibility," Jäger said. "They can now prove it." "It's our goal to create a peaceful football-viewing experience," Jäger said. "After we have finished the pilot project, we will see whether this has worked." The state of NRW is planning an initial phase of reduced policing over the first four rounds of the season. Jäger insists that police presence will not be reduced at the often rowdy local derby matches. And he says anyone engaging in criminal activity can expect just the same amount of police attention as always. "We are just talking about the games that have been peaceful in the last three years," he said. "In this instance we want to reduce the number of riot police to suit the situation." Risk of violence? But can it really work? The chairman of the NRW police union, Arnold Plickert, doesn't think so. "Instead of isolating and prosecuting violent football fans, we are making ourselves scarce and letting them take over the streets," Plickert told the German newspaper BILD.
Harald Lange, a professor at the Germany-based Institute of Fan Culture, says the debate is just unnecessary saber-rattling from both sides. The question of reducing costs is important, but in Germany the state is responsible for public peace, which means the police have to do the work, he says. Financial support from a (private) third party would not be something that Germany would want, Lange told DW, as that would mean that such support would have to apply in other instances, too. "When Obama comes for a state visit, does the CIA or the American taxpayer have to pay for his security?" Lange asks. "And what about events held by political parties, or fairs? Or when nuclear waste is being transported? Should the demonstrators or the power plant owners pay for that?" Lange is appealing to all sides to be sensitive to the needs of others and communicate openly in the current debate. Europe's other big leagues The reduction in policing at Bundesliga matches is not happening in all German cities, though. Berlin, for instance, has confirmed that it won't be engaging in any such pilot projects for the moment. In other leagues in Europe, clubs have been asked to foot the bill for police involvement for years. French clubs, for instance, pay for a portion of police costs on game day. In the Spanish Primera Division and the English Premier League ,the state pays for police costs only outside of the stadium. In Spain, clubs mainly use private security companies inside the stadiums to control fans. In England, the clubs are completely responsible for security inside their own grounds.

England : Exeter man, 42, banned from football matches for three years after attacking Portsmouth fans at city pub - 05/08/2014
Source : http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk
A 42 year old Exeter man has been banned from football matches for three years after he launched an unprovoked attack on rival fans.
Andrew Cosway, of Burrator Drive, Exwick, punched two Portsmouth fans and tried to attack others in an incident in the Duke of York pub in the city after Exeter City had hosted a 1-1 draw against the Pompey team.
Cosway admitted using threatening behaviour with intent to cause unlawful violence when he appeared at Exeter magistrates court.
The removal man told the court he got ‘caught up in the atmosphere and saw the red mist’ when ten Exeter fans converged at the pub with five Portsmouth supporters. He was caught on CCTV lashing out at the rival fans, punching two of them in the head and knocking them to the ground.
Cosway was fined a total of £255 with costs, banned from the pub for nine months and from all football games for three years.
The latest figures released by the Home Office were from October last year and represented the 2012/13 season. The stats showed that Exeter City had 23 supporters on banning orders - more than rivals Plymouth and Torquay.
And the Grecians also had more fans arrested during that season than either of their Devon rivals.
The complete league table for banning orders and arrests is shown below.
The figures, which cover every club in the country, show 23 supporters of Exeter City are currently subject to banning orders.
It means they are prevented from attending any football league ground in this country or abroad.
Torquay United have 17 and Plymouth Arygle have 16.
In terms of arrests, there were six for Exeter last season, five for Plymouth and just one for Torquay.
Cardiff City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Leeds United and Millwall topped the list of Britain’s roughest clubs.
Figures for last season have not yet been released.

Drink warning for Celtic Murrayfield clash
FANS of Celtic and Legia Warsaw were today warned by police not to violate Edinburgh byelaws on drinking alcohol in public ahead of tonight’s clash between the teams at Murrayfield Stadium.
Police in the Capital used their Twitter account to remind fans of the ban, including a link with details of the byelaw.
Celtic will have to overhaul a 4-1 deficit from the away leg to make it through the Champions League qualifier.
Match Commander Bryan Rodgers, from Police Scotland, said: “The Celtic versus Legia Warsaw Champions League qualifying match at Murrayfield is likely to attract tens of thousands of supporters.
“Police Scotland has been working very closely with our partners to keep fans safe and to minimise disruption around the Murrayfield area and, indeed, across Edinburgh.
“Members of the public travelling to the fixture are asked not to bring any flares or fireworks and are reminded that a city bylaw is in place which prohibits the consumption of alcohol outdoors.”

Football fan who invaded West Ham pitch and took free kick arrested
The football fan who ran on the pitch and took a free kick during West Ham vs Tottenham has been arrested.
The over-eager supporter ran some 70 yards before booting the ball towards the Hammers goal in a bizarre incident on Saturday afternoon.
His shot was saved by West Ham's goalkeeper Adrian while the pitch invader was chased by a steward amid cheers from the crowd.
The incident provoked amusement on social media too, with Gary Lineker saying the effort was better than Spurs star Christian Eriksen's free kick once play had resumed.
He wrote on Twitter: "A fan runs on the pitch at Upton Park and takes the free kick. Made a better fist of it than Eriksen."
Tonight Scotland Yard said a 22-year-old man from Kent had been arrested for suspected pitch invasion.
He is currently in custody at an east London police station, a spokesman added.
