Two Sheffield United fans were stabbed before a friendly football game between the Blades and Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands, police have said. Both men were treated for their wounds in hospital, but later discharged.
Supt Martin Hemmingway, of South Yorkshire Police, who is in Holland working with Dutch officers during the tour, said the pair were innocent.
He said they were ambushed by hooligans from Dutch team Feyenoord, who were spoiling for trouble with Blades fans.
"They were having a quiet drink and offered no provocation, but they were set upon and given a beating," Mr Hemmingway said.
BBC Radio Sheffield sports reporter Seth Bennett, who is in the Netherlands covering the tour, said the Feyenoord supporters were in the area hoping to stage a pre-arranged battle with Blades hooligans and were armed with knives, stakes and chains.
He said the final match of the tour will take place on Wednesday, but more trouble could not be ruled out before then.

Bury apologise over racist abuse - 06/08/2006
Source: Teamtalk
Bury director Iain Mills has apologised for racist abuse directed at MK Dons players by Shakers supporters.Chris Casper's side went down 2-1 at the National Hockey Arena but Mills accepts the chanting may result in a financial penalty for the Gigg Lane club.
A statement from the club claims the perpetrators were caught on CCTV and Mills said: "I have apologised to the MK Dons chairman and I want to apologise to Martin Allen and his team. "It's unnecessary and unwanted. I have to apologise to the black players within the MK Dons team because of the chanting and racist comments coming from a section of the Bury supporters.
"I spoke to one or two stewards after the game and they said we have been the worst set of fans they have ever seen here. That disappoints me greatly."

How many hooligans in Serbia? - 07/08/2006
Source: B92
BELGRADE -- New legal regulations have failed to stop violence at sporting events and clashes between hooligans outside the stadiums. The death of a 24-year-old man in a scheduled fight between fans of two Serbian football teams and the demolition of a passenger wagon in a train traveling from Niš to Belgrade are the last facts pointing to the state of sports hooliganism in Serbia which is currently running rampant, daily Blic writes.
According to statistics of the Belgrade police, within the first six months of this year, 19 major incidents occurred at sporting events in Belgrade.
Outside the sporting facilities, fans have been responsible for 51 violent crimes this year. Colonel Slobodan Vukolić of the Belgrade police force said that there are 2,000 fans registered by the police as hooligans in Belgrade alone.
“Most are Red Star supporters. Their group ‘Delije” has more than 700 extreme fans. After them are the ‘Grobari’ Partizan supporters, with 550 hooligans, and then fans of OFK Belgrade, Voždovac, Zemun…most have criminal charges pending against them.” Vukolić told Blic.

Fighting causes chaos at station - 08/08/2006
Source: Yorkshire Post Today
Andrew Robinson Yorkshire Post Today
HOOLIGANS threw tables, chairs, bottles and glasses during a fight between Leeds United football fans and a group of men from Barnsley. Up to 50 men were involved in fighting which caused severe damage to Wetherspoons pub at Leeds city rail station on Saturday. The trouble started in an open-air drinking area, moved inside the pub and then spilled out onto the concourse, forcing terrified innocent people to scatter. Trouble continued as police moved the hooligans into Aire Street, Wellington Street and City Square. One witness has told police that a child suffered a head injury during the mayhem. This is being investigated. Fighting started around 5pm and lasted for about 45 minutes. Heavy drinking played a part in the build-up, police said. Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the pub's fixtures and fittings as chairs and tables were hurled and windows were smashed. No one was seriously injured. British Transport Police (BTP) made four arrests – two men from Leeds, aged 33 and 37, and two from the Barnsley area, 36 and 40. BTP said more arrests were likely. Anyone who took part in the trouble was likely to be charged with violent disorder, it added. A spokesman said: "There was extensive damage to the premises as chairs and tables were thrown around. Bottles and glasses were used as weapons. Several people were left with bleeding head wounds." Police appealed for information on the injured child. The spokesman added: "A witness said a child had a head injury. We are keen to trace the child and the parents."

Celtic fans arrested before Chelsea match
AT least 11 people were arrested last night after disturbances involving rival football fans before the so-called friendly Battle of Britain involving Celtic and Chelsea in London.
Fears of trouble were expressed before the game because of Chelsea's traditional allegiance to Rangers and "appropriate policing", including officers on horseback, was put in place.
Hundreds of the 2500 Celtic fans were corralled by police outside a pub, about half a mile from Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground, before being escorted to the stadium. As a result, many fans missed the 7.45pm kick-off.
After the 1-1 draw, Celtic fans were kept in the ground for about 20 minutes to allow Chelsea fans among the 20,000 crowd to disperse.
Martin Gordon, 29, from Greenock, but now living and working in London, missed the kick-off. He said: "There were more police at this game than I have ever seen at an Old Firm match. It was reassuring in one way. But it was also annoying that hundreds of Celtic fans missed the kick-off."
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Three minor, isolated disturbances in the Fulham Road area before the game, involving rival sets of Celtic and Chelsea fans, resulted in 11 arrests for various public order offences and a minor assault."
Chief Superintendent Kenny Scott, of Strathclyde Police, led a delegation of the force's officers to the match.
He said later: “There was no trouble inside the stadium. There were isolated outbreaks of trouble before the game, but that is not unusual when you have a large travelling support."

Chelsea-Celtic friendly marred by trouble
Scenes of violence marred the build-up to last night's preseason friendly between Chelsea and Celtic at Stamford Bridge, a match which brought together the champions of England and Scotland and had been billed as the Battle of Britain.
Scotland Yard confirmed that 17 people in total were arrested, ten Chelsea fans and seven Celtic supporters, following three separate outbreaks of trouble before kick off.
"The arrests were made in the Fulham Road area and were made either for public order offences or minor assault charges," a Met spokesman said.
More than 2,500 Celtic fans made the trip to London for the game which ended 1-1 after Blues winger Shaun Wright-Phillips cancelled out Gary Caldwell's early strike.
Despite the problems off the field and the result, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said after the match that the high-profile friendly had been worthwhile for the team's preparations.
"In the circumstances I am pleased," Mourinho said. "What we did is not easy to do. Because I have ten days of preseason, if I did not have two games together we cannot play enough games, and we need to play football.
"This game was not an evolution in terms of sharpness because you are more tired today than yesterday, but in terms of position on the pitch, occupation of spaces, distances between players, it was an improvement on the Feyenoord game."

Source: local press Rovers and Bohs fans clash outside Dublin bar
Violence erupted as rival soccer fans clashed outside a Dublin bar tonight.
Beer kegs and traffic cones were thrown as chanting Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians supporters fought outside the Hill 16 pub on Gardiner Street.
Neither group had been drinking in the bar, with staff believing fans had pre-arranged the mini-riot.
“Rovers supporters were coming across town on a bus and saw a group of Bohemians stood outside,” said a bar worker.
“They got off the bus and started chanting. Then more Bohemian fans appeared, they seemed to have been waiting nearby for this to happen.
“I think they had arranged to meet around here beforehand to have a mini-riot.”
The Hoops were taking on the Bohs at Tolka Park in the third round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup in the local derby which kicked off at 7.45pm. Trouble between fans started shortly after 7pm.
One motorist who witnessed the clash said he has to swerve his vehicle for fear of being hit with a keg.
“The fight just broke out as I was passing,” he said. “The fans were chanting and gardaí came pouring on to the scene.”
The Hill 16 is better known as a favourite haunt of GAA supporters attending Croke Park.
“We have never had any trouble like this before,” the bar man continued. “This is the first time we have ever seen anything like this.
“Soccer fans never drink here, it is too far from both Tolka Park and Dalymount Park.”
A garda spokeswoman said officers were aware of a number of public order offences in the area, but no arrests had been made.
“The Garda Public Order unit is on standby at the scene and will remain in the area throughout the evening until after the match and until all fans have dispersed,” she added. ************************************************************* Source: Eircom.net

Stockholm derby abandoned after crowd trouble Monday night's Stockholm football derby between Djurgården and Hammarby was abandoned after both sets of fans disgraced themselves at Söder stadium.
Djurgården's fans threw objects which hit both a linesman and a match official. Hammarby's fans responded by shooting fireworks around the arena and then storming the pitch.
Nine minutes into the second half the game was halted. Then after a 30 minute delay the decision was relayed to the supporters: the match was to be abandoned for safety reasons.
The trouble began half way through the first half. When Hammarby's Jeffery Aubynn went to take a corner, Djurgården fans began to hurl objects at him. Linesman Kenneth Petersson from Norrköping was hit on the head and needed treatment, while a match official received medical care after being hit on the head and collapsing to the ground.
Referee Martin Ingvarsson considered stopping the Allsvenskan game then. But he decided to let it continue after the public was warned that any more objects being thrown would result in the game being abandoned. By then, Djurgården were already leading 2-0.
Djurgården extended their lead to 3-0 before the break, and in the second half the fury of Hammarby's fans spilled over.
First they surged threateningly to the front of the stands. Then when fireworks began to rain down, the fans stormed the pitch.
The referee and his assistants ran to the dressing room followed by the majority of the players. Some of the home players remained on the pitch to try to reason with the fans.
A number of those who stormed the pitch were arrested immediately and police in riot gear held back the rest of the supporters while Martin Ingvarsson made his decision to abandon the game.
Hammarby's assistant trainer Thom Ålun agreed with the referee.
"We are furious at the small group who have done this. They cannot be called supporters, because they just destroy things for us," said Åhlund to Canal Plus.
After the decision was made, Djurgården's supporters were kept in Söder stadium.
"We let the Hammarby lot get away. Then we followed the Djurgården fans another way to the underground station," said police spokesman Björn Engström to TT.
