Cardiff City - Birmingham City - 26/08/2006

Source: http://www.freewebs.com/bluebirds_casual

About 30 of us met in the Prince Of Wales early doors, then headed to another boozer in town to meet another mob of Cardiff. When we got there we had atleast 100 in this boozer. Word spread that Birmingham were in a boozer in Grange Town with no OB so we head to one of our boozers down there. Then they ring to tell us OB now have them sown up.

That was it before the game as we all walked to the ground. When entering the ground news had reached us that 50 of them had walked through Canton and it went off outside a Cardiff boozer. Shame they didnt come a bit earlier as it was packed full of lads. Anyway, lads started running towards the Ninian Pub where Brum would be escorted past. It went off mildly outside the said boozer and OB then batton charged the Cardiff.

In the ground i could see seats and other missiles being launched from both the Brum end and the Cardiff mob. I went around to the A block which is opposite the away end to have a look at what sort of mob they had. One of they're lads clocked on to me and signaled that they were walking to the train station in 10 minutes.

Outside a bit of push and shove with the OB resulted in a group of 20 of us being locked in the home car park. A fence was ripped down and we made our way through the park next to the car park. When back in Canton one of the older lot said there was 100+ in Newport. UNfortunatly nothing was to come of this due to lack of organisation on both sides. Fair play to Brum for coming and having a good go. Gamest and biggest mob in Cardiff since 2003.

Blues fans in clash with police - 28/08/2006

EIGHT Birmingham City football fans were arrested when violence erupted at an away match in Wales.

Supporters who had travelled to watch Blues play Cardiff City at Ninian Park on Saturday ripped up 30 seats and hurled them at stewards and police.

Three stewards were treated for injuries after the fracas.

Blues manager Steve Bruce said he hoped the violence would not mark a return to the bad old days.

"The one thing we don't want is to return to where we were 20 years ago," he said. "Every club in this country has made sure that you can bring your family to football games and feel safe.

"We never want to return to the troubled days of the past."

Most of the violence happened before the Championship match which Blues lost 2-0, with more trouble during the second half of the game.

One fan, who did not want to be named, said there had been a hostile atmosphere throughout the game.

"Everything kicked off when some Cardiff stewards tried to eject some Blues fans from the ground," he said.

"People started going crazy. I saw at least three chairs ripped up and thrown at the stewards and the police. This went on for about 10 minutes. It looked like it was going to turn into a full-scale riot but everything calmed down in the end."

A spokesman for South Wales Police said three skirmishes had broken out before the match at the Ninian Park and King's Castle pubs.

Doncaster Rovers - Millwall FC - 12/08/2007

Source: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk

Footie yobs on rampage

THE first day of the new soccer season was marred by the first outbreak of serious hooliganism at the Keepmoat Stadium when drunken Millwall fans charged the Rovers supporters.
Police had to draw their batons and use pepper spray to quell the violence which broke out just before half-time in the 0-0 draw between the two promotion rivals.

Extra police reinforcements had to be brought in to deal with the violence, which Rovers officials blamed on the Millwall fans, who were said to have been drinking before the match kicked off.

Now there are calls to improve security by erecting netting between the home and away supporters' sections at the Keepmoat.

Two Millwall fans and one Rovers supporter were arrested after the disturbance when they tried to get into a segregated area of the stadium reserved for home supporters in the north-west corner of the ground.

Police and stewards at the Keepmoat Stadium joined forces to break up the trouble. The match did not have to be halted and continued during the disturbance.

PC Andy Baker, South Yorkshire Police's football liaison officer for Doncaster, said a lot of the 900 Millwall fans had been drinking heavily on the way up from London.

"Just before half time they made a rush to the north-west corner where a group of young Doncaster fans were gathered and the stewards were caught a bit flat-footed.

"Our officers had to draw batons and used them as well as spraying three or four Millwall fans with pepper spray.

"We shall be looking closely at the CCTV tapes to establish who else might have been responsible for the trouble.

"It was a pretty unsavoury incident and we shall hold a debriefing to see how future matches will be handled. I think netting between the two sections will be on the agenda when we meet the stadium people.

"Several Millwall fans were given medical treatment at the ground for the effects of the pepper spray."

Millwall fan Robert Kinner, aged 32, of Becksley Road, Erith, Kent, was charged with threatening behaviour while fellow Millwall supporter Christopher Catton, 47, of Clark Road, Royston, Hertfordshire, was charged with disorderly conduct. Both are due to appear before Doncaster magistrates on Wednesday. A Doncaster Rovers fan was also arrested and later released with a caution.

Doncaster Rovers managing director Stuart Highfield said after the match: "It is the first time that I have seen any trouble at a Rovers game for a long, long time.
"Our lot were taunting the Millwall fans but you get that every week in football and rival fans normally just give it back. But the Millwall fans just charged towards our supporters in the West Stand.
"I think that the stewards got caught on the hop. I was very disappointed with the Millwall fans; they have got a lot to answer for."
A spokesman for the Stadium Management Comp-any said today: "We will meet with Rovers and the police to discuss the matter and see what action needs to be taken in the future."

Millwall: Soccer thug who led attack barred - 17/08/2006

Source: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk

A MILLWALL fan who led a charge against home supporters at Doncaster Rovers' first game of the season has been banned from all football matches.
Doncaster Rovers today welcomed the ban against the fan who led the attack at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

It was the first serious outbreak of trouble since the stadium opened in January 2006, and it has forced management to erect safety netting to separate the home and away sections.

The Millwall supporter, one of about 900 who travelled to the opening match of the 2007-08 season, has been banned from all soccer matches for the next three years.

Robert Kinner, aged 32, from Erith, Kent, was also ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work when he appeared before Doncaster magistrates on Wednesday.

He admitted a charge of threatening behaviour.

He had approached a family seating area and began shouting abuse and making violent gestures, the court was told.

Prosecutor David Sheppard said: "It was mainly families in that part of the stadium and they were distressed by his actions.

"A lot of other fans then began following him towards the Rovers fans. He said after his arrest he was trying to antagonise opposing fans."

The banning order means he cannot attend any league or international fixture and must keep away from football grounds for four hours before any match, and for four hours after the final whistle.

A second Millwall supporter, Christopher Catton, aged 47, of Royston, Herts, was fined £150 after admitting disorderly behaviour.

He had sworn and refused to be seated.

After the case, Rovers managing director Stuart Highfield said the sentence imposed on Kinner was an excellent result.

He said "I am pleased the courts have taken firm action.

"We don't want people like that anywhere near the Keepmoat Stadium. Those fans came here with the sole intent of causing trouble.

"I've been connected with the Rovers for nine years and that is the first time I have seen trouble like that."

Mr Highfield said the segregation netting was 'a must.'

"We don't want any more idiots coming and spoiling other matches this season," he said.

"Lessons have been learned from last Saturday and I hope we won't see a repetition of this trouble, which was not orchestrated by our fans."

Meanwhile Doncaster police are studying video tapes of the crowd at the Millwall match and expect to make further arrests after identifying hooligans.

FA chiefs have this week fined Millwall FC £30,000 for the poor conduct of their players on the pitch last season. They will be fined the same amount if it does not improve this season.

Doncaster Rovers - Tranmere Rovers - 12/08/2006

Source: http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk

Troublemaker soccer fans are banned from grounds (17/08/2006)

THREE soccer fans have been banned from every football ground in the country by Doncaster magistrates after causing trouble before and after last Saturday's match at Belle Vue.

They were among a group of about 25 Tranmere Rovers' supporters who arrived by coach in Doncaster town centre on Saturday afternoon.
Two were arrested before kick-off outside the Rockingham Arms in Bennetthorpe, after trying to provoke a confrontation with doormen.
The third was arrested after the game in Hallgate as they were preparing to board their coach.
Magistrates dealt with the men for public order offences yesterday.
All three were banned from attending any professional football match in England and Wales for the next three years.
They must not enter an exclusion zone round Tranmere's ground, Prenton Park, on match days.
Pc Andy Baker, the Doncaster officer responsible for football hooligan monitoring, said: "The magistrates took a hard line and we hope that will continue.
"Our colleagues in Merseyside police are delighted by the orders because they were aware of these men.
"So far this season there have been no Doncaster Rovers' fans arrested and it would be nice if that continues."

Birmingham City - Stoke City - 12/08/2006

Source: Birmingham Mail

A BIRMINGHAM football fan was arrested as 'robust' policing quelled trouble during Saturday's Blues v Stoke clash.

While Staffordshire Police praised the behaviour of most of the near 12,000 fans, it revealed two small groups of Stoke and Birmingham fans tried to 'engage in confrontation' following the match at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.

But Supt Mick Harrison said their efforts were thwarted with "robust policing".

One 21-year-old Birmingham City fan was arrested for trying to get into the ground drunk.

Shamrock Rovers - Bohemians Dublin - FAI Cup - 26/08/2006

Source: http://www.independent.ie/

Beer keg hurled, stones and bottles thrown, as rival soccer fans clash in brawl outside GAA pub

REGULARS at a popular Dublin GAA pub watched in horror and disbelief last night as rival soccer supporters staged a mini riot in a busy city centre street, at one stage throwing a beer keg through the air.

The ugly clash happened as Shamrock Rovers were preparing to meet Bohemians at Tolka Park in the third round of the FAI Cup.

Bricks, bottles and batons were hurled by a contingent of about 30 Shamrock Rovers fans after they spotted a small group of Bohemians supporters standing outside the Hill 16 pub in Middle Gardiner St shortly after 7pm.

Although some of those who observed the clash said it appeared pre-arranged, others said the Bohemians fans, who were not all wearing team colours, seemed surprised by it.

It is believed the Rovers fans had been travelling on a bus to Tolka Park when they spotted the small group of Boh's fans outside the pub where a number of other people were also standing. Once the bus stopped the Rovers' fans surged forward hurling an array of missiles at the small group of opposition supporters who were quickly joined by several other Boh's fans.

According to a number of eye-witnesses, some of those involved recognised each other.

Three windows in the pub were shattered in the melee and a woman working nearby had the rear side windscreen of her car smashed.

Passing motorists watched in horror as, for a few minutes, a barrage of stones and bottles rained down across the busy street.

One motorist who witnessed the clash as it happened told how he had to swerve his vehicle for fear of being hit with a keg.

"The fight just broke out as I was passing," he said. "The fans were chanting and gardai came pouring on to the scene."

At one stage a beer keg was hurled and a wheelie bin overturned.

For a few minutes the two groups fought hand to hand. Onlookers said a number of fans had been armed with extendable batons.

Gardai quickly arrived to halt the fighting but the ugly clashes had only lasted a few minutes and the Bohemians fans had run off while the larger group of Rovers supporters also dispersed.

"In all my 20 years here I have never seen anything like it," said Hill 16 owner Tom O'Connor "It is the worst I have ever seen."

"We see every type of supporter in here but never have we seen anything like that," he said.

He added that in contrast, before and after big games at Croke Park, all manner of GAA fans would congregate at the pub, which is a favourite watering hole for Dublin supporters, but there would be no violence.

No arrests were made during the incident. The final score was 1-1.

Gardai are expected to step up security for the replay at Dalymount Park on Tuesday night
