Manchester United fan stabbed in Paris after PSG defeat - 07/03/2019

Man, 44, reportedly undergoes emergency operation after attack with ‘large blade’
A Manchester United fan is being treated in hospital in France for a stabbing injury shortly after the English side knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
The Foreign Office said it was in touch with the French authorities over the incident, with reports suggesting the man is undergoing emergency surgery.
“We are in touch with the French authorities following an incident involving a British man in Paris on 6 March and stand ready to offer assistance if required,” a spokesman said on Thursday evening.
It is understood that the 44-year-old man was taken to the high dependency unit at the Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou, a little less than a mile away and on the opposite side of the river from the Parc des Princes, where the match was played. He is thought to have undergone an operation there to remove blood on his lung.
According to Sky Sports News, he was stabbed in the chest by a taxi driver who became angry at his and his friends’ post-match celebrations. The group of four was reportedly travelling back to central Paris from Parc de Princes, in the west of the city, when the taxi driver ordered them to leave the vehicle.
The broadcaster reported that the taxi driver pulled out a knife and threatened a female member of the group. When the victim tried to intervene, it said, he was stabbed in the chest with a “large blade”.
Sky Sports News said French police arrested an unnamed suspect on Thursday, but the weapon is yet to be found. Local police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A fan was arrested following an ugly incident involving Rangers captain James Tavernier during Friday night's 1-1 draw at Hibernian.
Shortly before half-time as Tavernier went to collect the ball for a throw-in, the supporter jumped over the advertising boards and kicked it away before pushes were exchanged between the pair.
Police and stewards swiftly moved in and led the man away.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We can confirm a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at Easter Road. Inquiries are ongoing."
A seat was also hurled from the stand where Rangers fans were housed as the fan was led away.
Hibernian chief executive Leeann Dempster told Sky Sports News she was "so disappointed" and the man who confronted Tavernier would be banned from Easter Road for life.

'Confrontation' caught on CCTV between Notts County fans and Cheltenham stewards with police involved
Cheltenham Town will pass CCTV footage of a 'confrontation' between Notts County fans and Robins stewards to police.
Cheltenham ran out 4-1 winners against the bottom-of-the-league side to record their biggest win of the season.
But a 'brief confrontation' in the away section led the Robins to issue a statement after the game.
It said: “Stewards responded to an incident in the Notts County section of the ground and a brief confrontation followed.
"There were no ejections during the game but the whole incident was captured on CCTV and we will be reviewing the footage with Gloucestershire police early next week.”
Observers in other parts of the ground said they could see pushing and shoving going on between Notts County fans and the Cheltenham stewards during the first half, with police reportedly stepping in, and there were unconfirmed rumours of fighting among the away fans at the full-time whistle too.

Ultras from Southern Pelusa attacked Dynamo, and the beating continued for 3-4 minutes. The gendarmerie came to break the disobedient fans, and neutral fans, women and children were evacuated from the room.
The organizers decided that the game, originally scheduled for 17:30, will start at 20:00. All supporters were evacuated and the two galleries were sent to Bucharest.

Anti-Semitic tweet sent to Israeli player in Germany
German police have filed charges against the alleged perpetrator of an anti-Semitic tweet sent to second division Ingolstadt's captain, Almog Cohen (pictured above), an Israeli football player.
The tweet called for the player to be sent to a "chamber," an apparent reference to Nazi Germany's use of gas chambers during the Holocaust. The tweet was sent by a Union Berlin supporter during a match against Ingolstadt.
"We strongly condemn this disgusting, anti-Semitic tweet in all forms and demand that it be prosecuted," said Rainer Koch, vice president of the German Football Association (DFB). The federation said it will pursue its own investigation of the incident.
Cohen issued a response on his Twitter account on Saturday, appreciating the support he received "from all sides."
"As a Jewish professional footballer in Germany I would just like to say: I am very proud of my heritage and of representing my country in the second division and being captain of Ingolstadt. And in a country where I've lived for nine years, and I value its openness."
Ingolstadt also thanked Union on Twitter for its "immediate support." As soon as the Berlin team was notified, they replied saying they had already notified police of the user.
"Even after a most painful defeat, sometimes there are more important (fights)," Ingolstadt said in a tweet.
Rising anti-Semitism
German football teams and fans have confronted anti-Semitism in the stadium. In February, a conference was organized in Frankfurt to discuss how to better tackle anti-Semitism in football.
Authorities in Germany and other EU countries have been on alert amid rising reports of anti-Semitism, including violent attacks against Jews.
Israeli Ambassador to Germany Jeremy Issacharoff told DW last week that he is "very concerned" about the rising number of anti-Semitic attacks in the country.

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish punched by fan in derby win at Birmingham City
Birmingham City have said a supporter will be banned from St Andrew’s for life after he attacked Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish during the Birmingham derby.
The incident occurred less than 10 minutes into the game when Grealish was in the Birmingham penalty area and a spectator in a flat cap ran on to the field and threw a punch from behind the visiting captain, striking him on the side of the head.
The intruder was quickly restrained by stewards as several other Villa players rushed in to confront him. He was led away by police, blowing kisses to the crowd as he left, and was later arrested.
“Birmingham City Football Club would like to apologise to Jack Grealish and Aston Villa for an incident in this afternoon’s derby match,” a club statement said. “We deplore the behaviour of the individual who committed this act and rest assured he will be banned from St. Andrew’s for life. The club will also support any further punishment this individual may face in the eyes of the law.

FA investigate pitch invasion after Southend draw
A pitch invasion at the end of Blackpool's home game against Southend on Saturday is being investigated by the Football Association.
The incident happened after Southend's Taylor Moore scored an own goal deep into injury time in the 2-2 draw.
Fans ran on to the pitch and several orange gas canisters were let off.
A near sell-out crowd of 15,871 was in attendance for their first home game since controversial owner Owen Oyston was removed from the club's board.
The club later issued a statement praising supporters for their enthusiastic celebrations, but warned that similar behaviour in future would not be tolerated.
"We know that you will all maintain that passion for the remainder of the season, and fully acknowledge the excitement and emotion of scoring a 96th-minute equaliser on such a memorable day in the history of Blackpool Football Club," the statement said.
"However, we must implore all supporters to remain in the stands, no matter what the situation. No spectators or unauthorised persons must encroach on to the pitch.
"Having worked so hard to reach this point, it would be such a shame to run the risk of FA sanctions and see the club fined or forced to play matches behind closed doors."
