Aberdeen v Rangers game marred by ugly scenes as seats thrown at rival fans
Ugly scenes marred Aberdeen's Scottish Cup clash with Rangers as a number of ripped-up seats and other missiles were thrown by supporters.
Flares were also set off at Pittodrie Stadium during Sunday's match as rival fans hurled abuse and a variety of objects at each other over the fence segregating them in the South Stand.
Images show seats being thrown from the Rangers section of the ground towards Aberdeen fans as police and stewards tried to keep rival supporters apart. Police later said seats had also been thrown from the Aberdeen end towards the Rangers supporters.
Rangers fans also threw broken pieces of seats onto the pitch after the Premiership sides played out a 1-1 draw in the cup quarter final.
Officers could be seen leading at least one person away after the game from the Aberdeen end.
Police Scotland later confirmed that five men and a woman have been arrested in connection with disorder related offences and the use of a pyrotechnic device at the game.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to the offences.
Police Scotland later updated their statement and said they were aware of an incident which involved seats being thrown by both home and visiting supporters towards opposing fans.
Match Commander Superintendent Richard Craig said: "I would like to thank the vast majority of supporters from both clubs who heeded our advice and behaved responsibly today.
"However, it is disappointing that a very small minority of fans chose to ignore the warnings and were in involved in disorderly behaviour. They have let themselves and their clubs down.
"Disruptive behaviour in and around football matches in Scotland will not be tolerated and those who choose to conduct themselves in such a way will be firmly dealt with."
Aberdeen fans had also unfurled an insulting banner aimed at Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos .
The black banner with white writing read: "Morelos tu madre es un colchón".
In Spanish it literally translates as "Morelos your mother is a mattress".

Celtic and Hibernian unite to condemn hooligans after Scottish Cup tie
Celtic and Hibernian were united in condemning bottle-throwing incidents during the Glasgow club’s 2-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final victory at Easter Road last night. A bottle was thrown towards Scott Sinclair from the Hibernian end as the winger prepared to take a corner in the 57th minute with Hibs later issuing a statement in which they said it was their understanding that “two bottles were thrown, one from each set of supporters”. The disturbing trend of missiles being aimed at players which has dogged Scottish football this season moved Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon to appeal for the authorities to step up their efforts to deal with those responsible and so ensure that the pitch remained a sanctuary for those asked to perform on it. “It’s just a real sore point of this season. Bottles, coins, flares, it’s just totally unacceptable,” said Lennon, who was struck by a coin at Tynecastle when managing Hibs there earlier in the campaign.

Chaos after Sheffield Derby as fans ‘pelted with fireworks and clash with police’
Fans were told before the game that away fans would be held inside the stadium for at least ten minutes after the full time whistle. Trouble outside Hillsborough However, many fans have reported on Twitter that the Sheffield United fans were released at the same time as the home fans, leading to clashes around Leppings Lane. Fans reported fireworks and coins being thrown as supporters left the stadium with one fan taken to First Aid after being hit by a firework. Others reported crushes between sets of fans on Leppings Lane with sets of Sheffield United and Sheffiield Wednesday fans on the same trams. It was like a warzone outside Leppings Lane. Had to squeeze through the coaches to stop from getting pelted with coins, smacked by a moron, or trampled by horses. South Yorkshire Police said there was ‘disorder’ when the two teams came into contact at the tram stop at Leppings Lane. However, the force said this was ‘effectively dealt with by officers’ and that no issues were raised by tram operators.

Switzerland : FC Sion football fans convicted over Neuchâtel riots - 05/03/2019
Source : https://www.lematin.ch/
Some 52 FC Sion football supporters have been sentenced for rioting at an FC Neuchâtel Xamax-FC Sion match in the Swiss city of Neuchâtel on October 7, 2018.
The Neuchâtel prosecutor’s office and police said on Monday that individuals had received fines of up to CHF10,000 ($9,987), depending on their income. Certain repeat offenders and well-known hooligans had received heavy fines.
The incidents occurred when around 200 out of 800 visiting Sion fans gathered at the end of the match to provoke opposing supporters. Police managed to intervene to prevent clashes.
The Sion fans were ordered to leave the area, but many refused and later clashed with police, who used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. Those responsible were later identified using video technology.
Hooliganism is a persistent problem at Swiss football matches and to a lesser extent at ice hockey games.
According to a report by the SonntagsZeitung last October, over the previous six months one out of three football matches and one out of ten ice hockey games witnessed violent incidents. Most incidents occur outside stadiums. Flares are lit and material damage reported at half of all games, the report said.

Scotland : Dons and police scour CCTV to find Pittodrie seat vandals - 05/03/2019
Source : https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/
A security team will link up with police to scour CCTV in a bid to bring football vandals to justice.
Since Sunday evening, Aberdeen FC stewards have been surveying the damage to the away section of the South Stand at Pittodrie, after the Dons’ crunch Scottish Cup quarter final tie with Rangers.
One source said the behaviour of the away fans had been “remarkably good” until the last few minutes of the game, when troublemakers were caught smashing up seats.
One seat could be seen being hurled from the visitors’ section of the South Stand into the home section – and then lobbed back.
A total of 60 seats in the visitors’ section, along with toilets, were damaged.
Repairs will cost around £3,000 with the bill being sent to Rangers.
Police said they have arrested five men and a woman in connection with disorder at the game and in relation to the alleged use of a flare.
One source said: “It was actually quieter than the recent league game between the two sides here, but then it got bad during the last few minutes.
“None of the broken seats are in the home end.
“The club will be working with the police to study CCTV and further arrests may follow.
“Police in Glasgow know the faces of those who often cause trouble, and they will get to see the images.”

Ajax supporter arrested in Madrid
Over 200 Ajax supporters have gathered in Madrid's main square on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid, yet one Dutch fan has been arrested. The fans gathered have been largely in good spirits, chanting in support of their heroes in the faint hope that the goalscoring exploits of Dusan Tadic and Hakim Ziyech will be able to see the Dutch giants overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg. Unfortunately, one minor incident has forced the Spanish national police to step in, with one Dutch supporter arrested, much to the displeasure of the remainder of the gathered crowd. In total, the Madrid City Government expects 4,223 Ajax fans at the match on Tuesday evening, and it had been declared as a potentially high-risk fixture by the anti-violence commission.
