Two Ipswich fans arrested as police praise ‘good-spirit’ of supporters during derby
A pair of Ipswich supporters were the only fans to be arrested during a derby clash characterised by the “good spirit” of fans.
More than 27,000 fans attended Carrow Road today as Norwich City beat Ipswich Town 3-0 in a thrilling East Anglian Derby.
Around 1,870 Ipswich supporters travelled to the city for the midday kick-off and police have thanked fans of both clubs for their behaviour.
The only arrests were that of two Town supporters who engaged in “threatening words and behaviours” towards rival fans.
After the match police put cordons in place around the stadium to ensure fans could move safely from the ground and begin their journeys home.
Match day policing commander Chief Superintendent Dave Marshall said: “This is a match that provokes strong emotions in both sets of supporters but overall there was good spirit between fans and minimal disorder.
“It’s really a team effort, but ultimately the day is dictated by the fans.
“We always said our policing approach would be fair but firm to ensure supporters enjoyed the game and could complete their journeys to and from the stadium in a safe environment, and I’m pleased to say that’s exactly what happened.
“Given there were nearly 30,000 fans here and we had only two arrests, I want to thank everybody for their time, understanding and patience in helping us to make sure this match passed off safely.
“A brief additional road closure was put in place before kick-off to ensure supporters could walk along the road safely, and I would also like to thank motorists for their co-operation during this time.”
Police have also thanked counterparts in Suffolk and British Transport Police for their assistance as well as other partner agencies involved in the operation.

The Netherlands: Fight between hooligans in Sittard - 08/02/2019
Source : https://www.ad.nl/
The mayor of Sittard-Geleen, Sjraar Cox, reacted to the fight that broke out Friday night in a pub in the city, between hooligans. He said a group of 50 to 60 PSV hooligans attacked a group of locals in a pub.
"It was apparently a reaction to the fact that last week a banner of young PSV hooligans was burned," the mayor said.
In addition, Cox also mentioned Belgian hooligans from Genk, friends of those of Fortuna Sittard. "After the fight, five people were arrested, one from Eindhoven, the other four were Belgians."
When the police arrived at the Limbrichtweg café, several hooligans managed to escape in their cars. During the scene a police officer fired a warning shot with his service weapon.

Serbian Water Polo Players Attacked In Croatia - 09/02/2019
Source : https://www.rferl.org/
Serbian water polo players were attacked by a group of nationalists ahead of a match in Croatia.
The incident on February 9 occurred at a beachfront cafe in the Croatian city of Split before a regional league match between Mornar Split and Red Star Belgrade.
One Red Star player even jumped in the sea at Split in a bid to escape the attackers.
Red Star decided not to play the match and returned to Belgrade.
The team said the goalkeeper had a broken nose after being attacked by "Croatian hooligans."
"Split is not a town which will tolerate violence of any kind," Mayor Andro Krstulovic Opara said. "I condemn the attack against three Red Star players who today wanted to enjoy the Split beachfront."
Tensions are still high between Croatia and Serbia after their war in the 1990s.

3 arrested in Croatia after Serbian water polo team attack
Croatian police on Sunday detained three suspects over an attack on Serbian water polo team players that forced one to jump into the freezing sea to get away.
The incident in the Croatian Adriatic port of Split, which occurred on Saturday before a regional league match between Mornar Split and Red Star Belgrade, further strained relations between Serbia and Croatia. The Serbian team returned to Belgrade without playing the match.
Tensions are still high between the two Balkan neighbors after their war in the 1990s.
The Croatian interior ministry said the three detained men are "linked" with the attack in a seaside cafe and that police are still looking for two additional suspects. A Red Star jersey was found with one of the arrested suspects.

Manchester United - PSG - 11/02/2019
Source : https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/
Manchester readies itself as 3,500 Paris Saint-Germain fans set to descend on our city for United clash
As many as 3,500 Paris Saint-Germain fans are descending on our city today as Old Trafford plays host to a crucial Champions League tie this evening.
With the game set to kick off at 8pm, there are fears that the event could gridlock the city centre.
A sell-out crowd of 75,000 is expected, with the Young Voices children's choir concert also on Manchester Arena tonight.
Both police and Transport for Greater Manchester have warned public transport is expected to be 'much busier than usual' and people should plan their journeys in advance.
Ryan Carter, TfGM’s events and customer information manager, said: "We have been working closely with GMP and our other partners to organise the transport plan for Tuesday.
"The game is expected to see a sell-out crowd of 75,000 in attendance and as such public transport is expected to be much busier than usual.
"In addition, highways in and around the Old Trafford area are expected to be very busy in the build up to kick-off.
"Extra capacity has been added to the Metrolink network and we’re encouraging away fans to head to Exchange Square and board a tram to Trafford Bar.
"On the night, we will be monitoring the network with our 24 hour control room and will have contingency plans in place to help manage what will be a dynamic situation.
"We would advise anyone travelling on the date to allow extra time to make their journey, plan ahead, check our advice and consider all their available transport options."
Ian Hopkins, chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, admitted there was 'no simple solution' to the issue of dealing with an influx of foreign fans arriving for European ties.
However he said that he wanted to end the 'custom and practice' of visiting fans being escorted by police to Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium for such games.
Previous facilitated marches have combined with roadworks and resulting rolling road blocks to create traffic misery for commuters.
There are no current plans in place for a facilitated march for the PSG game from Shambles Square, where fans have traditionally gathered, but the situation could change quickly.
Transport bosses said 'extra capacity' has been added to the Metrolink network and PSG fans would be 'encouraged' to board trams for Trafford Bar at Exchange Square in Manchester city centre - which is opposite Shambles Square.
Transport for Greater Manchester staff will be on hand to personally assist fans gathered at the square.
A queuing system will be in place and passengers using the stop, but not going to the match, are being asked to use access points at the Arndale/Selfridge’s end. A contingency fleet of buses will also be on standby to shuttle fans to the ground.
Should PSG fans decide to walk however, police would be powerless to stop it.
A facilitated march would then swing into action, should they choose not to take public transport.
Warnings, and a map of the walking route, would then be issued by Transport for Greater Manchester on social media.
Mr Hopkins said GMP had sought to prevent a police-facilitated march last November, which saw thousands of fans of Swiss side BSC Young Boys walking in unison to Old Trafford for the United game, but supporters 'said they were going to do it anyway', leaving the force with little option.
Assistant chief constable Rob Potts, match commander for the PSG game, said police and TfGM were 'seeking to avoid' police walks to the stadiums in future.
He told the M.E.N.: "Given the expected increased footfall, we would advise people to plan their journeys accordingly.
"Alongside TfGM, our local authorities and football clubs, we remain committed to working together to reduce the impact that the movement of large numbers of football supporters has on road congestion in Greater Manchester.
"This involves working with supporters; providing and signposting alternative options, including public transport and seeking to avoid any large scale walk from the city centre to a particular football ground.
"Our work will continue on this match and in the future as we strive to minimise avoidable disruption and maximise the safety of all our communities that may be impacted by this and other events."

Four arrested in disturbances near team hotel
A group of Ajax ultras set about causing a ruckus in the environs of Real Madrid’s team hotel in Amsterdam overnight on Wednesday, leading Dutch pólice and the Spanish club’s own security detail to comb the streets looking for the local fans, who used Fireworks and bangers in an attempt to ensure the visiting European champions enjoyed as Little rest as possible.
The ultras were not exactly sure of the location of Real’s hotel and so marauded around the De Pijp district of the Netherlands’ capital causing as much commotion as possible between 2:30 and 4:00 in the morning on Wednesday.
Employees at the Hotel Okura, where Santiago Solari’s side are lodged ahead of Wednesday evening’s game at the Johan Cruyff Arena, called the police but it was an hour and half before all the ultras could be dispersed or rounded up, with Real Madrid’s own security personnel also joining the chase.
Four people were arrested during the disturbances, which mirrored those staged in Paris a year earlier when PSG fans laid siege to Madrid’s team hotel ahead of the match between the sides at the Parc des Princes.

Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain charged by UEFA following Champions League clash - 13/02/2019
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
Manchester United and Paris St Germain have been charged by UEFA following Tuesday night's Champions League match at Old Trafford.
United have been charged with blocking stairways and throwing objects, PSG with setting off fireworks, throwing objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbance.
A beer bottle was thrown from the crowd towards PSG's former United winger Angel Di Maria in the second half of the last-16 first leg, with the Argentinian responding by picking it up and seemingly pretending to take a swig from it.
It has been reported that a bottle of water was subsequently thrown Di Maria's way as well, and an item landed at the feet of United full-back Luke Shaw in the first half of the game, which the visitors won 2-0.
Di Maria - who was shoved into the touchline hoardings by former teammate Ashley Young in the first half - was jeered throughout the game, and was seen swearing at United fans after assisting PSG's first goal, scored by Presnel Kimpembe.
Flares and fireworks were seen in the away end at Old Trafford both before and during the game.
"Our fans created a great atmosphere getting behind the team last night," a United source told the MEN.
"PSG fans played their part, but some of their behaviour clearly went too far."
The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on February 28.

Serbia: Hooligans attack two African footballers - 11/02/2019
Source : https://www.b92.net
According to media reports, two Napredak Krusevac football club players have been attacked by a group of hooligans in this central Serbian town.
The victims are Ibrahima Ndiaye from Senegal and Regis Samuel Baha from Cameroon.
According to this, the incident happened in front of a park on Sunday evening. The footballers were first verbally abused, and then physically attacked and injured.
The police in Krusevac said they were working intensively to identify the attackers, and later in the day announced they had one of the attackers in custody.
A spokeswoman for the club, Valentina Vasic, told RTS that Ndiaye said the verbal abuse was not racist.
The footballer also said he and his colleague did not respond to provocations, which prompted their assailants to strike him from behind using a metal object, inflicting light injuries.

Fans Stabbed in Rome Ahead of Sevilla-Lazio
At least three people were stabbed in a mass brawl Wednesday between Lazio and Sevilla fans in Rome, with one suffering serious injuries, Italian media reported.
Two Spanish fans and an American were hurt in the fight, which broke out ahead of Thursday's UEFA Europa League match, La Repubblica daily said.
"Everything was quiet, when suddenly we heard shouting and the sound of broken glass. We rushed to the window and saw guys with hoods armed with clubs and batons that were attacking other guys," one local bar owner told the daily.
Some forty people were involved in the clashes in Monti, near the Colosseum in the historic centre, which was broken up by police in riot gear, it said.
The Gazzetta dello Sport daily put the number of people being treated in hospital for stab wounds after the attack at four, including one British man reportedly in critical condition.
It said knives had been used in the attack, adding that one of the Spanish fans was also critical, while the other Spaniard and the American were said to be less seriously wounded.
Another daily, Corriere della Sera, said one of the injured fans dragged himself bleeding along the street to call for help from passersby.

FC Thun - Young Boys Bern - 10/02/2019
Source : https://www.20min.ch/
Thun city authorities have taken had taken various measures. One of them was to take another route than usual one to the Bern fans to reach the stadium.
A decision that clearly did not please the supporters of YB. On Sunday, hundreds of fans tried unsuccessfully to take the usual route. They stayed about 30 minutes in front of the barricades.
According to police, annoyed fans moved a construction barrier and threw bottles. After several minutes of discussion, a large part of the supporters finally went to the stadium. A hundred others, angry at not having been able to take the normal route, left by train to Bern. Agents were stoned and had to shoot rubber bullets.
