POLICE claimed victory over Old Firm thugs after keeping a lid on yesterday’s powderkeg match. Cops praised the behaviour of the “vast majority” of fans at Hampden. Police said they had made 37 arrests at Sunday’s match, including 12 for sectarian breaches of the peace.
Twenty-three of those arrested were expected to have appeared in court today, with a further 11 reported to the procurator fiscal and three given fixed penalty notices.

Brazilian teen killed in fighting between fans, police in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul finals
Brazilian authorities say a 16-year-old fan was shot to death in a confrontation involving rival fan groups and police after a football match in southern Brazil.
The fighting happened after Novo Hamburgo and local rival Aimore drew 2-2 in the first division of the Rio Grande do Sul state championship on Sunday.
It wasn't immediately clear if the shot that killed the Novo Hamburgo fan was fired by Aimore supporters or by police officers trying to break up the disturbances outside the stadium. The fan reportedly belonged to one of the fan groups.
Authorities said they were investigating.

SUICIDE SQUAD: Thirty football hooligans in serious brawl with rival fans - 03/02/2015
Source: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/
THIRTY football hooligans, some chanting ‘Suicide Squad’ slogans, besieged Burnley Miners’ Club after a serious brawl broke out with rival fans, a court heard.
Bar staff, young families and old men were trapped inside the Benedictine bar at the Plumbe Street venue alongside Sheffield Wednesday supporters, Preston Crown Court was told.
Prosecutors allege the violence was sparked when Wednesday fan Richard Rowe was punched to the ground in the bar after the Championship clash between the two clubs in January 2014.
In the end, away fan Alan Ween, a wheelchair user, was injured, a young boy suffered a head wound, and broken furniture and smashed glasses were left strewn across the bar, the court was told.
A number of people have already admitted their part in the violence, the court heard.
Joseph Allman, prosecuting, said that two men were also ‘enthusiastic’ participants - 50-year-old Simon Massey and Timothy Wilkinson, 63.
He alleged that Wilkinson could be seen on CCTV pushing his way to the front of a crowd, confronting the Sheffield fans, in the club’s foyer. His son Andrew Hardman was also part of the mob.
Wilkinson is said to have ‘raised his fist’ towards the other supporters before the police arrived and the crowd dispersed.
Massey is also alleged to have been caught on CCTV shouting threats towards the Sheffield contingent.
Mr Allman added: “The crowd of men was chanting ‘Su, Su, Su’, which is the chant of the Suicide Squad, a notorious group of football hooligans associated with Burnley Football Club.”
The court heard further security camera footage would also show both defendants later in the Turf Moor Hotel, with two other men who featured in the earlier violence.
Wilkinson, of Sowclough Road, Bacup, and Massey, of Avondale Road, Nelson, deny a charge of violent disorder.
Interviewed by police later, Massey insisted he had only gone into the club for a drink and came across the violence. He said the only thing he shouted was ‘what is going on?’ and ‘I’m too old for this’.
Wilkinson initially denied that he was at the club but when shown CCTV of his presence he insisted he was not involved in the violence which ensued.
Mr Allman said that the Sheffield party had arranged with the club’s committee to enjoy a couple of drinks at Burnley Miners before they returned to South Yorkshire on two mini buses after the game.
Stuart Rowe, of the visiting party, had arranged the event to mark the birthday of a son who had died the previous year, the court heard.
The party had been to the club before and Miners staff had not reported any problems with the men previously, or on the day in question.
The prosecution accepts that the Sheffield Wednesday fans in the Benedictine bar fought back when faced with violence, with evidence of at least one thrown glass and one arming himself with a chair.
But Mr Allman said that any defence which claimed the fans were ‘all as bad as each other’ should be viewed with suspicion given the circumstances of the case.
Andrew Hardman, 31, of Fairfield Avenue, Waterfoot, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at an earlier hearing.
Gareth Bromley, 37, of Weldon Street, Burnley, and a 17-year-old Barrowford youth, also admitted violent disorder previously.
Tony Holgate, 42, of Tabor Street, Burnley, was convicted of the same charge after an earlier trial. Michael Harrison, 36, of Brunshaw Road, Burnley, was acquitted of the same offence at the same hearing.
Twelve men from the Burnley, Padiham and Rochdale areas admitted the violent disorder charge last September and are awaiting sentence.
Five further men , all from the Burnley area, are also awaiting trial over the same incident.

Ghana players, fans pelted with missiles in win over Equatorial Guinea
The Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Equatorial Guinea and Ghana was suspended for almost 40 minutes on Thursday night after crowd disturbances that led to police evacuating part of the stadium with smoke bombs and a helicopter.
In scenes that will colour what remains of the tournament, home supporters aimed bottles at Ghana players and supporters, and the visiting team were forced to leave and re-enter the pitch under cover of riot police shields either side of half-time. The crowd was largely dispersed, with reports that trouble continued outside the stadium after the match. Eventually the game was restarted in front of near-empty stands before the Gabonese referee, Eric Otogo, blew for full-time five minutes early.

Brazil police detain 42 after fight between rival fan groups
Brazilian police have detained 42 Corinthians fans after they allegedly attacked a group of Sao Paulo supporters inside a subway station.
The Sao Paulo fans were heading to a match at Pacaembu Stadium, while Corinthians supporters were returning from the team's presidential elections.
Authorities said the Sao Paulo fans were outnumbered but were able to flee. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Saturday's fight happened a day after authorities reversed a decision to keep Corinthians fans from attending Sunday's match at rival Palmeiras. The local federation had initially banned them because of safety reasons, but Corinthians threatened not to play without its fans.
A 16-year-old Novo Hamburgo fan was killed earlier this month in a fight between rival groups and police.

Egypt: Zamalek - ENPPI - 07/02/2015
Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/
At least 25 killed after supporters and police clash at Egyptian league football match in an echo of 2012 riots
*Violence began before match between Zamalek and ENPPI in east of Cairo *Match was open to public unlike most other games since deadly 2012 riot *Interior ministry capped number of fans allowed into Air Defence Stadium *Officials say Zamalek fans tried to force their way into game without tickets *But the supporters say they were tear-gassed as they scrambled to get in *They claim only gate opened was a tiny fence surrounded by barbed wire *74 fans died in 2012, when supporters from Al Ahly SC were killed in a riot
At least 25 people have died in clashes between football supporters and police outside a stadium in Cairo. The violence - only three years after similar violence killed 74 people in the country - began prior to a match between Egyptian Premier League clubs Zamalek and ENPPI at Air Defence Stadium east of Cairo. The match was open to the public, unlike most other games between Egyptian football clubs since deadly stadium riots in Port Said in 2012. But the interior ministry had capped the number of spectators allowed into the stadium to 10,000, and tickets quickly ran out.
Fans of Zamalek, Egypt's second biggest club, tried to force their way into a match without tickets, sparking the clashes, officials said. The interior ministry said in a statement: 'Huge numbers of Zamalek club fans came to Air Defense Stadium to attend the match...and tried to storm the stadium gates by force, which prompted the troops to prevent them from continuing the assault on the stadium facilities.'

[b]Twenty-two people killed outside Cairo soccer stadium
Twenty-two people were killed outside an Egyptian soccer stadium on Sunday when security forces barred fans from entering, the public prosecutor's office said.
Most of the dead were suffocated when the crowd stampeded after police used tear gas to clear the fans trying to force their way into a league match between two Cairo clubs, Zamalek and Enppi, doctors and witnesses said.
A health ministry spokesman told Reuters by phone the final toll was 19 dead and 20 injured. The reason for the discrepancy in numbers between the health ministry and the public prosecutor's office was not immediately clear.
Soccer matches are often a flashpoint for violence in Egypt where 72 fans were killed at a match in Port Said in February 2012. Since then Egypt has curbed the number of people allowed to attend, and supporters have often tried to storm stadiums they are banned from entering.
Outside the Cairo hospital treating the injured, scores of youths wearing Zamalek T-shirts appeared shocked as families arrived to see if their relatives were safe.
One mother cried and shouted when she found the name of her son on a list of the dead posted by hospital staff.
"I'd told him: leave soccer matches," she said.
Relations between security forces and fan groups known as Ultras have been tense since the 2011 popular uprising that ended the rule of autocrat Hosni Mubarak, in which the Ultras played a key role.
"Huge numbers of Zamalek club fans came to Air Defense Stadium to attend the match ... and tried to storm the stadium gates by force, which prompted the troops to prevent them from continuing the assault," the interior ministry said.
The public prosecution ordered the arrest of the leaders of the Zamalek supporters group, Ultras White Knights, after Sunday's incident, official media reported.
On their Facebook page, the Ultras White Knights described the 22 dead as "martyrs" and accused security forces of a "massacre".
Despite the violence, the match went ahead and ended with a 1-1 draw.
The Egyptian Football Federation said it had reversed an earlier decision to allow fans to return to the stadium by the start of the second half.
Shortly after the incident, the Cabinet said in a statement that the national league championship would be postponed indefinitely.

Egypt suspends football league after Cairo stadium deaths - 09/02/2015
Source : http://www.bbc.com
The Egyptian authorities have suspended football league matches indefinitely after clashes at a stadium in Cairo left at least 22 people dead.
People were crushed after police fired tear gas at supporters of Zamalek who were trying to force their way in for a match against city rivals ENPPI.
The fans blamed the authorities for opening only a single gate.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the leaders of the Zamalek supporters group, the White Knights.
The last time the league was suspended was in 2012 after 74 fans died in rioting at a game in Port Said.
At least 20 people were also injured in Cairo on Sunday at the Air Defense Stadium, witnesses say.
Despite the violence, the match went ahead.
At the scene: Orla Guerin, BBC News
At the stadium piles of shoes left behind by the dead and wounded were a silent testament to a stampede. Zamalek fans claim the violence began when the authorities opened just one barbed wire gate to let them in.
Witnesses told us a fence had collapsed as the crowd surged forward. "Suddenly the security forces began firing tear gas and birdshot all over the place," one said.
Another young man told us through tears that up to 50 fans starting piling on top of each other. "We were carrying people away," he said "to save them getting trampled to death.
It is just three years since more than 70 Egyptian fans were killed in a riot at a stadium in Port Said. After that limits were placed on the numbers attending matches. Those restrictions were lifted just weeks ago.
There's a history of tension and animosity between the security forces and hardcore football fans - many of whom were involved in the 2011 revolution. There are fears of further clashes in the days ahead.
*********************** Hard-core Egyptian football fans are often deeply politicised and played a role in the overthrow of former President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
Many people believe police in Port Said stood by in revenge for the fans' role in anti-Mubarak unrest. Police deny the accusation.
Recently lifted restrictions on the numbers attending football matches, imposed after the deaths at Port Said, will now be re-imposed.
Egypt's public prosecutor has ordered an investigation into the Cairo clashes.

Grimsby Town fan's ejection from Forest Green match investigated
A football club is investigating the ejection of a fan of a rival club from its ground before kick-off.
Stewards at Forest Green Rovers ejected a Grimsby Town fan from The New Lawn before Saturday's game.
Images show supporter Bryan Winship held in a headlock by a steward.
The Gloucestershire club said in a statement the photos "do not make good viewing for a club that prides itself on being family friendly and welcoming to away fans."
The club said it was investigating the removal of a fan from the away end and added it was "awaiting the post-match report from the stewarding company before we comment further on the incident".
'Going purple'
Mr Winship, 41, from Ulceby, was later interviewed by the Grimsby Telegraph and told the newspaper he "couldn't breathe" as he was ejected.
He said he had taken an inflatable football to the match to inject a "bit of fun" into the game.
But when he began blowing it up, he was told by a steward the item would be taken off him, he said.
When he refused to hand it over, he said he was grabbed by another steward who put him in a headlock and ejected him from the stands.
Mr Winship had been at the game with his 15-year-old daughter Janelle, who tweeted: "Seeing my dad being held at the throat going purple not being able to breathe and getting dragged out the ground was pretty scary ngl #gtfc."
Freelance photographer Duncan Young, who took the pictures for the Grimsby Telegraph, said he was setting up his camera at the halfway line when he heard "booing and hissing from the Grimsby Town fans" and spun round to start taking photos of the disturbance.
He said: "One of the stewards had this chap in a headlock and he looked really, really distressed."
Forest Green Rovers said it would not release the name of the private company which provides its stewards until its investigation is complete.

England : 'Violent' Leeds United fans punched police horses after Ewood Park clash - 05/02/2015
Source : http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/
A THIN blue line of police officers confronted more than 200 Leeds United supporters who were bent on trouble with Blackburn fans leaving Ewood Park.
Blackburn magistrates heard just 15 officers battled to keep the two factions apart before they were joined by reinforcements including mounted officers and dog teams.
The court was told the officers had drawn and used their batons against the Leeds fans who were also charged by police horses.
And during the incident at the Darwen end, police horses were punched and blows were aimed at officers.
James Benjamin Hogan, 39, of Tennyson Street, Halifax, pleaded not guilty but was convicted after trial of using threatening behaviour.
He was remanded on bail until February 25 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Police sergeant Lee Turner told the court he was on duty at the Darwen Street end after the match had finished. Fighting broke out and he and colleagues formed a line to try and keep the two factions apart.
PS Turner said initially there were 12 constables, two sergeants and an inspector who quickly radioed for assistance.
He said they were confronted by between 200 and 250 Leeds fans who were very agitated and threatening.
“A number ran at the police line kicking out and the violence became that bad we all drew batons,” said Sergeant Turner.
“I have been a police officer for 13 years and the level of violence coming from the Leeds fans was the worst I have seen. I had to strike several people to get them back.”
Sergeant Turner said a number of missiles were thrown at the officers before police reinforcements arrived and enabled them to push the Leeds fans back.
Towards the end of the incident he saw Hogan approach the police line with clenched fists and shouting abuse and threats. He directed abuse directly at sergeant Turner who eventually arrested him.
He said Hogan was under the influence of alcohol.
Simon Farnsworth, defending, said his client had been honest in admitting he had drunk ‘five or six’ pints before going to the match and admitted being in the group that confronted police.
But Hogan denied making ant threats or trying to hit anybody and claimed that it was a case of mistaken identity.
Hogan said he had moved with the crowd because he didn’t want to get hit with a baton.
“There was a lot of pushing and shoving and the next thing I felt was a hand pulling me back through the police line and down to the floor,” said Hogan.

Italy : Lazio threatened with partial stadium ban for racial chants - 10/02/2015
Source : http://www.espnfc.com/
Lazio will be forced to play one home game in Serie A with the Curva Nord section of the Stadio Olimpico empty if there are further incidents of racial chanting after a large group of fans were heard racially insulting Genoa players on Monday night.
M'Baye Niang and Edenilson were victims of some widespread racial chants during Genoa's 1-0 win over the Biancocelesti in Rome.
At one stage of the game, the referee stopped proceedings and spoke with Niang, but play recommenced after an announcement was made over the public address system.
The chants did not go unnoticed, however, and in the Lega Serie A's weekly disciplinary report on Tuesday, sanctions were imposed on the Rome-based club. The ban will only be applied, however, in the event of further misbehaviour of their fans in the next 12 months.
"Approximately 50 percent of the 7,700 Lazio supporters situated in the area known as the 'Curva Nord' aimed shouts and chants unequivocally expressing racially motivated discrimination towards the players number 11 [Niang] and 21 [Edenilson] of the opposition team," read the Lega Serie A statement.
"In view of the dimension and the actual perception [of the chants] ... for this reason, Lazio will be obliged to play one game without fans in the area known as the 'Curva Nord.' The sanction will be suspended for the period of one year with the warning that, should during this period a similar violation be committed, the suspension will be revoked and the sanction will be applied in addition to the one ordered for the new violation."
It is not the first time Lazio's fans have been found guilty of racial abuse. They were sanctioned four times in the 2012-13 season and had to stage two Europa League matches behind closed doors that season after their fans misbehaved at European games.

England : Leeds football fans get three-year ban after disorder at Norwich Championship match - 14/02/2015
Source : http://www.edp24.co.uk/
A district judge condemned a group of Leeds football fans and banned them from attending matches for three years, after one of the most severe recent acts of disorder at Norwich’s Carrow Road ground.
It follows a half-time rumpus in the bar area of the Jarrold Stand on October 21 which saw a smoke grenade set off and beer thrown in a police officer’s face.
Ryan Beckett, 24, Kelsey Bould, 18, Adam Curley, 26, Richard Dennison, 31, and Duncan Thomas, 53, pleaded guilty to Public Order Act offences at Norwich Magistrates’ Court yesterday and were given football banning orders for three years.
Thomas, of Trinity Link, Haverhill, Suffolk, also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer.
Prosecutor Oliver Haswell told the court that at half-time in the match between Norwich and Leeds, spectators had gone to use the facilities behind the main pitch area.
He said: “It was during that time these five men were in the location with a number of Leeds fans and things got out of hand.”
He said CCTV of the incident showed a blue smoke grenade was let off, and amid the disorder fans were “standing and dancing” around the item while it was letting off smoke.
He added police and stewards attempted to control the situation, but this had the opposite effect and police hats were knocked off.
“People had to take cover,” said Mr Haswell. “It was quite a spectacle and took some considerable time to take control of the situation.”
He also said there could have been any number of arrests that day.
Mitigating for Bould, Dennison and Thomas, Dave Foulkes said there was no record of the men being “at risk” supporters.
He added: “None of them are football hooligans, they are individuals who follow Leeds. Some have been going for years.”
Father-of-one Beckett said: “I personally didn’t let off any flares or throw any beer but I admit I was caught up in the moment.”
Curley said: “I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Other than the influence of alcohol it was just a normal game.”
District Judge Sandeep Kainth said: “You should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. People and their families were there for enjoyment.”
Beckett, of Hazel Grove, Pontefract; Bould, of Westroyd Avenue, Cleckheaton; Curley, of Ridding Lane, Rawcliffe and Goole; and Dennison, of Spenser Road, Guiseley, Leeds, were each ordered to pay a £300 fine, a £35 victim surcharge and costs of £85. Thomas was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to the police officer he assaulted.

Spain : Police piece ultra puzzle together - 09/02/2015
Source : http://www.marca.com/
The police have almost pieced the puzzle together from the ultra-related violence on 30th November after determining the role of each of the four suspected murderers of Dépor fan Francisco Javier Romero Taboada, although images and phone calls are still being analysed in an investigation that is likely to culminate in more arrests. Eighty days after the fight that involved some 200 ultras from the Frente Atlético and Riazor Blues in Madrid Rio near the Vicente Calderón, the police have almost brought the investigation to a close. More arrests may yet take place, however, which is why footage from citizens is still being viewed and analysed. Some of these images confirm the participation of the four suspects in Jimmy's death as well as the person who threw him into the Manzanares river after beating him in a spurt of violence that saw 82 people get arrested, only four of whom are currently in prison. Sources close to the investigation have indicated that the police are certain about the role of each suspect in Jimmy's death.

Stoke City fans clash with police officers as violence breaks out during Blackburn Rovers FA Cup tie
Stoke City fans were involved in violent clashes with police officers at Blackburn after their side were dumped out of the FA Cup.
Fighting erupted in the away supporters' section of the Ewood Park ground in incidents that flared twice, lasting around 10 minutes in total in the closing stages of the game.
It is believed that around 20 Stoke fans were involved in the incident, which included supporters, stewards and police officers to the right-hand side of the away end behind the goal. The melee is said to have initially died down before erupting once more at the climax of the game.
Reports suggest that the ugly scenes began as fans of the Potters began brawling with each other, before the relevant officials got involved and the incident boiled over.
